I fell head over heels, absolute completely in love with the art. I mean I will read anything illustrated by Julie Maroh. Her art is mesmerizing.
Add to this beautiful art a compelling story of friendships, coming-of-age, coming-out (in more than the obvious way); and you get a tale you can't help but love it. I sat down read it and then immediately re-read the whole thing. And believe me I'll read a next volume as well. Just tell me when it's available. ...more

This is the second comic by her that I absolutely adore!
Shedding some light on Cystic fibrosis; teaching some Día de Muertos customs and traditions. I can see why she's won countless awards and I would definitely recommend picking up some of her work.

“The Impossible City isn’t far from here, and I can take you, if you’d like to go. Just take your hand, close your eyes and trust me. I know the way.”“The Impossible City isn’t far from here, and I can take you, if you’d like to go. Just take your hand, close your eyes and trust me. I know the way.”
I have come to the conclusion that I don’t read enough Fantasy. Because when I do there’s this hole in my heart that gets filled to overflowing giving me joy uncontained. It’s like a part of my soul gets feed that was starving for so long it was barely alive. And then when I do manage to feed it, my brain is like “WHY DO YOU KEEP THIS FROM YOURSELF FOR THIS LONG?”
I’m convinced McGuire have the language part of the Ethos doctrine. She puts words on pages that feel like the best Swiss Chocolate in the world slowly, deliciously melting on your tongue giving your taste buds an experience so overwhelming and beautiful you want to die. (I’m a chocolate lover if you can’t tell) There are passages in this book that I’ve highlighted and re-read so many times that the beauty of the words is edged into my heart.
“She looks like peaches and cream, like Saturday afternoons down by the frog pond, innocence and the American dream wrapped up in a single startlingly lovely package.”
But it’s not just the beautiful writing that got me. This story is just so much more than what I expected. Each reveal was like a layer being pulled back, but also like a vortex pulling me deeper into it. I loved the concept, I loved the execution, I loved the characters, but most of all I loved that this book transported me out of my mundane world, into a world of infinite possibilities. I feel if I say more I might spoil things for those fortunate enough to be reading it for the first time.
Just know this book is going on my favorite shelf and will most defiantly be re-read.
