This 1 hour long audiobook creeped me out than most horror books ive read. this feels like the book where the starless sea got half of its inspiration from and given i didnt like the execution of that book in the end because it felt like it dragged on for too long, i liked that this was short and just scared me i guess.
it's about a guy who gets stuck in a library and starts hallucinating i guess? discusses the microcosm fears set in a short timeline like The Little Prince type of short stories.
"My anxiety had turned into an anxiety quite lacking in anxiousness."

This truly deserves all the praise it gets. Ocean Vuong’s writing style is so insanely gorgeous it hurts. It's lyrical without it being too flowery. What hit me even more so was probably the fact that this felt like such a raw but healing story at the same time. It never felt too fast or slow paced and the way Ocean Vuong describes the range of emotions and places makes it feel tattooed in my soul.
Contemporary literary fiction is usually a hit or miss for me with how heavy topics can get sometimes without it being balanced with hopefulness, which is my personal preferences with stories in general. This was that perfect balance and I am here for it.
I felt like i was there in the narrator’s memories while holding a mirror of my own life in certain parts. tears were shed.
p.s. if you are an audiobook listener, please listen to the audiobook because ocean vuong narrates it and it is enchanting
i want every audiobook ever to be narrated by ocean vuong

Though I do not agree with some of the arguably transphobic views, I resonated a lot with Lasco’s thought processes or at least where they were coming from. Fellow Filipinos, you need to read this.

“I can say it’s gorgeous now, my arm, because it belonged to no one else.”
its like i read every ocean vhuong book at the perfect time of my life. this book talks about the pain of immigrating to a country where no one sees you as part of it, and the journey it takes to undo your own prejudices because of it. it's the journey of seeing yourself not as damaged but as created by everything
“On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous” is just another level and is still my fave ocean vuong but i love his poetry too. I love the way he thinks and puts it into words.
