Romansen var gullig, sunshine vs grumpy -tropen med en gnutta magi inblandad, med betoning på en gnutta magi. Själv konceptet med leylines och magiker som drar krafter från den är intressant, men resten är bara så oförklarat. Och med tanke på att Rook och Sun springer på varandra hela tiden när de gör uppdrag så känns det som att det bara finns två magiker i staden.
Fastnade inte heller för karaktärerna och handlingen var spretig. Men som sagt, romansen var gullig, så betyget landar på okej.

Men, sen började jag förstå att det är liksom det som är poängen med boken och vips så blev den mycket bättre. Imogen vann mig också över till sin sida med sin humor och hjärta av guld. Jag älskar bästisen Lili, lillasystern Edith och gänget på högskolan. Romansen var gullig och Albertalli är en författare som verkligen vet hur man få till roliga och levande chattkonversationer.
Något jag lärde mig och blev förvånad över är att det förekommer så mycket gatekeeping inom queer-världen. Det visste jag inte och himla tråkigt att det är så.
Allt som allt en snabbläst ungdomsbok med HBTQ-tema. Gillar ni Albertallis tidigare böcker så lär ni gilla denna också.

Detta är min andra bok Blake Crouch och fler lär det bli. Hans sci-fi-action-thrillers är välskrivna och väcker verkligen många filosofiska frågor. Takten är snabb och de vetenskapliga referenserna är trevliga. Det känns som att händelserna i boken verkligen kan hända på riktigt i framtiden.
Mitt enda klagomål på boken är att jag kände mig inte så fullt kopplad till huvudrollen Logan som jag hade velat. Allting gick så snabbt framåt och Logan tryckte undan sina känslor hela tiden, vilket gjorde att han kändes mer som en actionhjälte än en vanlig människa.
Hursomhelst, en actionfylld spänningsroman om hur fel eller rätt det kan bli när man mixtrar med genetik. Väldigt intressant och jag måste läsa mer från författaren.

Ali Hazelwood har en magisk förmåga att få mig att bli förälskade i hennes karaktärer och heja på deras romans med hela mitt hjärta. Även om kombination av en smart och nätt solskenstjej samt den storvuxna, sura men heta killhuvudrollen, är något vi har sett förr så har jag inget emot det. Dynamiken mellan Mallory och Sawyer, och inblicken i shackvärlden är bara så intressant att det är svårt att sluta läsa.
Nu vet jag inte hur mycket av schackvärlden i boken är sann och vad som är påhittat, men jag köper allt och var även tvungen att googla på World Chess Championship-loggan och skratta åt den.
Jag gillar att läsa om smarta karaktärer så det var ingen tvekan om att jag skulle fastna för Mallory och Sawyer. Även om denna är en YA (och därmed inga spiciga scener) så slog det ändå gnistor om dem.
Det enda som drar ner betyget är Mallorys självförakt och skuldkänsla. För någon som är så intelligent så är det nästan på gränsen till irriterande att hon inte kan tänka klart och överdriver saker och ting till 500%. Men visst, någon form av hinder måste ju finnas för att boken inte ska ta slut efter 100 sidor.
Känner nu att jag måste läsa mer av Hazelwood, är i vanliga fall ingen romance-älskare men just hennes böcker kan jag inte få nog av!

Vi får följa orcen Viv som är trött på livet som legosoldat och vill istället öppna upp ett kafé. För att uppskatta boken helt och hållet så behöver man vara någorlunda insatt i fantasyromaner eller har spelet mycket DnD. Detta för att boken vänder på det traditionella och visar att det finns flera sidor av ett mynt.
Fint budskap tycker jag, men även ganska händelselös och romansen var så lågmäld att den märktes knappt. Jag har absolut inget emot mysfantasy och kan tänka mig att läsa fler böcker ur genren, men jag föredrar nog mina fantasyromaner mer episka och blodiga :)...more

Jag känner mig som Grinchen när det kommer till denna bok. Här har vi årets vinnare av Goodreads Choice Award i kategorin "Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction", så förhoppningarna var höga. Just därför blev besvikelsen också stor.
Från början var den riktigt bra. Rebecca Ross är en konstnär med orden och jag skulle vara överlycklig som jag kunde skriva hälften så bra som hon kan. Stämningen är toppen, konceptet är unikt och intressant. Istället för att skriva om hjältar i ett krig mellan två gudar så handlar berättelsen två om journalister/krigskorrespondent med varsin magisk skrivmaskin.
Grejen är att jag kände noll för Iris och Kitts romans, vilket är ca. 80% av bokens handling. Jag önskar nästan att Kitts PoV hade strykits för det hade förmodligen gjort berättelsen mer spännande. Och fantasy-delen känns mest som en plot device för att för få till deras "anonyma" kommunikation.
Men, jag är en läsare som föredrar action och tydliga magisystem framför långsam romans så det är mig problemet ligger hos. Språket är som nämnt väldigt bra, vilket gjorde att jag läste klart boken på några dagar trots mitt bristande intresse för karaktärernas relation.

Men mysteriet och karaktärerna funkade bara inte för mig. Den här är överdriven och mer åt feelgood-hållet än en deckare. Mördarens identitet var ganska lättgissat eftersom det bara finns en begränsad mängd karaktärer så det är bara att köra uteslutningsmetoden.
Tror även att jag läste denna under "fel" period, för böckerna jag läste innan denna var superepiska så jag var i en rejäl boksmälla när jag plockade upp denna. Så detta kanske är ett fall av: "det är mitt fel och inte bokens fel"?...more

Men himla tur att Storm inte dog på riktigt i förra boken.
Mitt hjärta brister för Veradis skull. Att förlora sin bror och sen att han var den som dödade Nathair, sin bästis. Tur att han har kvar Cywen.
Det var på tiden att Lykos och Rafe dog! Störde mig så mycket på att de lyckades fly hela tiden. Edana är så badass! Och jag älskar att Camlin äntligen inser att han har ett hem.
Snyft Halion, vet inte vad jag tycker om att Conall är vid liv. Han valde rätt i slutet, men han har ändå gjort en del dåliga saker.
Jag gillade verkligen att saker från första boken spelar roll i denna. Som återkomsten av myrorna, minnesblickarna, det känns verkligen som att man har varit med om en lång resa.
Marquins delar känns fortfarande som en egen berättelse. Och det kändes så onödigt att Fidele dog pga att hon skulle ge sig av i hemlighet (och på så sätt blev tillfångentagen). Men det var fint att de återförenades efter döden.
De sista 200 sidorna var intensiva, bara strider hela tiden! Var tvungen att pausa lite då och då.
Sen kan jag väl tycka att striden om de seven treasures och portalen inne i Drassil inte alls var lika spännande som utanför, fast det var det som var det avgörande i kriget.

Eftersom det är tredje boken i en serie så skriver jag det mesta i spoiler. Men som ni ser på betyget så älskar jag den här boken. Den är spännande rakt igenom med så många tvister och händelse- & karaktärsutvecklingar som jag älskar. Läste klart den på två dagar vilket inte händer ofta med en episk fantasybok.

Fechs död var också sorgligt, det är ganska konstigt att man sörjer nästan mer när djuren dör.
Alltså Fidele och Marquin. Good for them men vilken cheesy scen när Marquin vaknade upp och sa att han kom tillbaka för hämndens och kärlekens skull.
En annan cheesy scen var Corbans kröning. Den är fin, men även väldigt cringe-worthy när alla skulle berätta vilken bra människa han var.
Yes! Veradis! Han har varit lite av en joker men nu gillar jag honom helhjärtat efter vad han gjorde mot Calidius.
Och dog Rafe nu efter att han hade druckit från koppen?
Oj, så det fanns ingen profetia och allt var påhittat av Meical? Men det verkar ju ändå som att ödet har styrt en del. Tänker på Storm and Shield och Veradis sanna hjärta.
Älskar Corbans duell mot Sumur, så mäktigt och jag var så stolt över honom!

-För många karaktärer Det är sååååå många karaktärer och berättarröster att hålla reda på. Det gör det episkt, men också väldigt segt och jobbigt att läsa när man behövde hålla flera trådar i huvudet.
-För mycket förflyttande Detta hör ihop med förra punkten. I stort sett alla karaktärer förflyttade sig i större delen av boken. Det var resor hit och marscher dit. Hela tiden!
Så bitvis seg bok, men efter halva berättelsen vände det och slutet är bland de mest spännande jag har läst på länge.

+ Konceptet Jag älskar udda och morbida koncept så därför är det inte konstigt att jag skulle gilla den bisarra idén med att man gör reality-tv av mördare som ska döda varandra i en arena. Det är bara så knäppt, men ack så spännande.
+ Språket I överlag så är boken välskriven, med varierande berättarröster.
Och nu till delarna som inte gick hem hos mig.
-För många karaktärer och berättarröster Det var alldeles för många personer att hålla reda på och det hjälpte knappast att författaren bytte berättare stup i kvarten. Visst, jag förstår att författaren vill ge en helhetsbild av systemet och visa hur många som påverkades av det. Men allt hoppande mellan karaktärerna ledde till att det skapade ett stort avstånd mellan mig och dem.
- För segt För mig kunde hälften av scenerna (och karaktärerna) skrotats och jag skulle ha uppskattat boken mer.
- För mycket politiskt budskap Boken innehåller mycket kritik mot det amerikanska fängelsesystemet och den systematiska rasismen. Det är egentligen inte dåligt, men jag hade inte alls förväntat mig det. Jag trodde att jag skulle få en gripande och spännande fiktiv berättelse, men istället fick jag en lektion.
- Slutet Älskade de sista 30 sidorna men efter all uppbyggnad var själva slutet en besvikelse.
Nu i efterhand så skulle jag ha gjort mig en tjänst och DNF:at boken istället för att tvinga mig själv att läsa hela. I grund och botten är den inte dålig, den är bara väldigt långt ifrån vad jag hade förväntat mig, och på grund av det hade jag svårt att uppskatta den.

Genom hela boken så kände man tydligt som läsare att författaren själv inte tycker att statligt övervakade äktenskap är en bra idé. Personligen hade jag uppskattat en gråskala istället för tydligt svart och vitt.

+ Världen Älskar referenserna till den nordiska mytologin med världsträdet som binder samma flera världar. I många andra böcker känns det som en superstor grej att kunna resa mellan världar men här är det så tillgängligt och det är coolt.
+ Stämningen Den mörka stämningen passar mig som handen i handsken. Gudarnas grymhet och Idunns utsatthet beskrivs väldigt bra.
+Familjerelationen Så fint att se systrarna skydda och ta hand om varandra! Kändes äkta och kärleksfullt.
- Karaktärerna Inget större fel på dem förutom att jag upplevde dem som ensidiga. Var ingen som överraskade. Kanske läste boken vid fel tillfälle för jag kände ingen koppling till dem.
- Miljöbeskrivning Jag älskar känslan av världen som Engman har byggt, men däremot så hade jag väldigt svårt att se den framför mig och veta vad som kännetecknar varje värld. Det kändes som att alla världar var väldigt snarlika med skog och växter typ. Hade också velat ha mer information om världen och dess folkslag.
- Långsam takt Jag som gillar spänning och tvister tyckte att det blev för händelselös efter halva boken. Det är mycket fokus på Idunns känslor och utveckling, vilket gjorde att det kändes som att berättelsen stod och stampade på samma ställe.
Gillade boken väldigt mycket i början och jag slukade halva boken på två lästillfällen, men sen tog jag en paus när jag började jobba igen efter semestern. När jag väl plockade upp den igen hade jag tappat intresset för karaktärerna. Tycker fortfarande om berättelsen men den magiska gnistan dök tyvärr inte upp igen....more

- Feelbad Precis som med Kuangs andra böcker så är Yellowface motsatsen till feelgood. Boken är stundtals riktigt jobbigt att läsa. Beroende på hur man är som läsare så kan detta ses som ett plus, men personligen så var det lite för deprimerande läsupplevelse för mig.
- Huvudrollen June Jag ville verkligen heja på June och förlät henne för flera av hennes misstag. Men det blev för mycket till slut, hon gjorde så många dumma val.
- Slutet Lite för öppet för mig.

Ibland har man turen att läsa rätt bok vid rätt tillfälle. Från att ha tagit paus från läsningen i nästan två månader plockade jag, utan större förväntningar, upp Fourth Wing ... och fullkomligt slukade den!
Drakskola, magi och enemies to lovers, Hungerspel-känsla. Det gick helt enkelt inte att lägga ifrån sig boken! Förstår verkligen varför den är så hype:ad och varför så många älskar den (jag är en av dem!). Det är så uppfriskande att läsa om hur smart och hur bra självkänsla Violet har. Hon må vara en underdog och har inte fysiken/hälsan på sin sida, men hon tror på sig själv, och är inte rädd för att böja på regler för att lyckas.
Och drakarna! Hela magisystemet med drakar och dess ryttare är bara så coolt.
Jag får nästan känslan av att Fourth Wing är skriven som en YA-bok, men har gjort huvudpersonerna till tjugoåringar för att det ska vara mer "okej" för dem att ha sex. Romansen är okej, är personligen inte superförtjust i bad boy/alfahane killhuvudroll med traumatisk bakgrund.
Jag måste ändå erkänna att det finns en "under läsningsfas" och en "efter läsningsfas". Under läsningsfasan var det bara att insupa varenda ord så fort som möjligt. Men efteråt, när flera tvister och hemligheter har blivit synliggjorda, sitter man där som ett frågetecken och undrar:
"Hmm, om det var så det låg till hela tiden, varför betedde sig karaktärerna på det sättet från början då? Vad vinnner riket på att hålla på så med sin politik?"
Ju mer man funderar desto mer verka logiken brista, men vem vet, det kanske förklaras mer i de kommande böckerna. Ser hur som helst mycket fram emot uppföljaren.

+ Oväntade dödsfall Jag älskar när böcker tar oväntade (men ändå logiska) vändningar och här gjorde den det! Mer om det i spoilerdelen.
Och nu till de negativa delarna:
- Huvudrollen Ella Med risk för att själv låta väldigt negativ så var Ella så gnällig. Det ska klagas över sjukvården, över medicin, över att vården anställer vilka personer som helst, över nedskärningar i kollektivtrafik. Och detta var i början av boken! Istället för att låta som en ung kvinna kändes hon som en bitter surtant.
Ella är en passiv karaktär, men när handlingen väl drar igång och hon tar tag i saker så är hennes planer så ogenomtänkta att det är tur och andras förtjänster att hon klarar sig. Dessutom är hon SÅ godhjärtad att det blir för mycket (mer om det i spoilerdelen).
- Undanhållning av viktig information Om det är något jag stör mig på i böcker så är det när karaktärer undanhåller viktig information från andra utan vettiga anledningar. Det är exakt vad som hände här. Och ja, jag fattar att det är fint med "läs-efter-min-död"-brev men här var det direkt löjligt när gammelfastern envisades med att skriva ett brev istället för att tala direkt med Ella som SATT I SAMMA RUM.
- För många bikaraktärer och lösa trådar Jag vet att det är första delen i en serie, så viss överseende har jag med lösa trådar. Men det hade varit fint om flera av bikaraktärerna och ringen hade knytits in ännu mer i handlingen.
Som ni märker så är Ella motsatsen till de huvudroller jag vanligvist gillar så det är helt och hållet mitt eget fel att jag och boken inte kom överens. Majoriteten av omdömena är positiva så låt inte min recension avskräcka er från att plocka upp boken med det fina omslaget!

Blev överraskad av Bis död, sorgligt att han dog, men bra att det tog en oväntad vändning.
Alltså Kailen. Himla tur att han dog ändå, för hade Ella lyckats rädda honom skulle jag ha dunkat huvudet i väggen. Han är ett svin! En mördare och en våldtäktsman, som dessutom planerar en massaker! Det är bara rätt åt honom. Blev så arg på Ella som ska vara så god och så rädd för att få blod på sina händer. Han har dödat de två människor som du älskar mest! Ha lite stake och äg hämnden! En bra avslutning på serien men det är den svagaste boken hittills. Varför? Nåja, bortsett från romance-träsket (som säkert många avgudar) så gillar jag hur författaren knöt ihop säcken och hur frågor från första boken äntligen fick svar i denna. Jag älskar att läsa om smarta karaktärer och även om mysterierna är mycket leta här och hitta där så var det intressant.
Som en YA- mysterieserie är det en av de mest spännande och underhållande jag har läst på senare år. Skulle ha älskat denna om jag hade läst den som yngre, nu gillar jag den väldigt mycket....more

Denna är samma sorts bladvändare som första boken. Ännu fler ledtrådar dyker upp och hemligheter inom Hawthorne-familjen avslöjas. Om den första boken fokuserade på bröderna så är det nu den äldre generationen som får spotlighten. Det är mycket drama men det funkar!
Precis som förra boken så är dialogerna sååååå klyschiga, och jag vill typ slita av mig håret varje gång författaren beskriver Jamesons leenden som "devastasting" eller "wicked" vilket hon gör flera gånger per sida (känns det som). Team Grayson här all the way.
Serien har varit mycket spännande och underhållande hittills, ska genast hoppa in i sista boken!

Känns märkligt att ingen av bröderna har listat ut vilka deras farsor är förrän Avery kommer in i bilden.

Nu har jag läst en av de mest populära YA-deckare de senaste åren och kan absolut förstå varför så många gillar den. Avery är en envis och stark tjejhuvudroll som glänser när hon kommer på ledtrådar och löser gåtor. Gillar också premissen med att hon, som fattig tonåring, får plötsligt inträde till de rikas värld.
Jag hade aldrig tråkigt när jag läste och sidorna bara flög förbi, precis som det ska vara i en YA-bok. Dessvärre så innehåller berättelsen typiska trope:er, t.ex. en onödig kärlekstriangel, jättejättejättemycket överdriven drama och heta killhuvudroller som verkligen behöver prata med en psykolog.
Men som sagt, boken är, trots mina klagomål, beroendeframkallande. Kommer att börja på nästa bok direkt!

Tycker att det mesta är väldigt bra med boken men om det är något som känns lite tråkigt så är det att det inte är så överraskande. Jag är en person som älskar (välgrundade) tvister, och visserligen är det en del överraskningar i handlingen men ingen som var omvälvande.
Men, som sagt, en väldigt stabil berättelse, sympatiska karaktärer och spännande miljö. Kommer absolut att läsa mer från författaren.

Är det bara jag som är lite trött på att så många diktaturer blir till demokrater i episk fantasy? Inte för att det är något fel med det, men det känns bara så stereotypiskt!
Lite oväntat att Nahri inte var Manizhehs dotter utan Rustams, men det kändes inte riktigt som att det spelade någon roll för handlingen.
Fint slut för Nahri och Ali, och de är så gulliga tillsammans :)
