Turn is a long story, it’s almost 700 pages. The author has a special talent to be true to the original story, to the characters, to the atmosphere. This is the story’s greatest strength. It’s rich in details, ingenious and creative.
Harry is 37, with three kids, a boring desk-job, a distant, dissatisfied wife, with continuous exhaustion, and dark circles under his eyes. He’s worn out. He feels that his life is not exactly what he expected or imagined it to be.
He’s also having weird dreams about Draco and that night in the bathroom where he had found him crying, and apparently it’s going on for a while.
One night Harry drinks too much, meets an old man in a bar who sends him to an alternate universe, to a “what-if” dimension to show him what could have been if he had helped Draco that night he’s dreaming about.
Harry’s time in the “glimpse” lasts for six weeks, it takes up the first third of the story. I felt it extremely long, exhaustively detailed. I was impatiently waiting him to be return to his real life and start to remedy it.
So, when he’s back from the “glimpse”, he slowly starts to make changes, most importantly, he makes friends with Draco. The way he’s doing it is admirably simple: he just starts to talk to him. It’s splendidly simple. It’s not a restart of Harry’s life, but a new direction. Despite the lengthiness of this part, dealing the different aspects of his life is quite easy. Except confessing his feelings to Draco. When he finally gets there, it’s a very theatrical, overdramatic scene, it doesn’t fit into the story, and doesn’t have the expected effect on the reader, the exquisitely depicted emotions I’m used to by this author.
Maybe if the story had been a bit more compact, more dynamic with more focus on the romance, it would have been better.
Endless conversations with Frank bored me (though the author’s tendency to present peculiar pets is awesome, I think I should collect them all from all of her works, it definitely demands a re-read…), Anthony Goldstein’s appearance is totally unnecessary, but there are many things in this novel that are hilarious, such as the Celestina Warbeck thing.
"Don't need no Stunning Spells, don't need no potions of love," Harry sings, chipping away at what he hopes is starting to look like a table-top, "don't need no cupid's arrows and the... fucking rest of the fucking line," he improvises, as, from behind him, Celestina warbles on. Dissatisfied with his work, Harry steps back. It's terrible. "It's your fault this isn't working, you horrible old bat," he mumbles into the instrumental section. "Woah, oh-oh-ohhh," Celestina interrupts breathily.
Unexpected friendships were great, especially the friendship of Harry and Blaise.
“Harry, he is not playing hard to get,” Blaise sighs. “He’s just... actually hard to get.”
The whole story is told from Harry’s viewpoint. Despite its lengthiness, it’s a pleasant read, recommended.

Draco smiles. “Well, much as it pains me to admit it; it’s beautiful. It looks like water.” “In that case,” Harry says slowly, hoping he’s not making a colossal mistake, “it’s yours.” “Are you quite certain?” “Yes, Draco, I’m quite certain,” Harry says, unable to stop himself from mocking Draco just a little bit. “You’re infuriating. Thank you,” he adds, tone turning gracious.

The book was on the dresser, had been there for weeks, the first thing Derek looked at every morning when he woke up. Now he barely glanced at it as he scooped it up and walked back to the living room. It was a stupid thing to pin so many hopes on, anyway. "Here you go," Derek said, and handed it to him indifferently, like he hadn't spent a year and several hundred dollars acquiring it, and the last two months obsessing over giving it to him.
It was different – nice twist in characterization. I prefer the other way around, though. Still, it was an enjoyable read.

Draco discovers the Mirror of Erised is a portal and he enters an alternate reality where he can get his deepest desires. First, he doesn’t understand what’s happening – it’s hilarious to be in Draco’s head, btw, and witness all his possible explanations.
Draco had died. This was the only logical explanation: he’d died and gone to heaven, and if he didn’t know that he didn’t deserve heaven, then maybe he’d believe it.
In the mirror, Draco has everything he ever wanted.
His Mirror self had made the choices Draco didn’t.
He is utterly happy, so he decides to stay. The problem is that only his mind enters the mirror’s reality, and his body is slowly dying in the real world.
Of course, Harry arrives at his rescue.

It’s beautifully angsty, heartbreakingly beautiful. Never happened before that a first kiss made me cry.

It’s a world ruled by Voldemort. It’s full of terror, but there is hope. There is a Resistance and also a new prophecy.
Harry’s lungs strained for air. “How can you live in this world?” Draco said, “We can’t.”
Meeting Voldemort’s Inner Circle was torturous and sickening. I can’t say much without giving everything away. The story is not about defeating Voldemort once again, it’s just about Draco and Harry getting together.
Wonderful story, with nice surprises! Recommended!...more
Harry and Draco both work at the Ministry, and one day Harry finds Draco unconscious in his office. I turns out that Draco overdosed a sleeping potionHarry and Draco both work at the Ministry, and one day Harry finds Draco unconscious in his office. I turns out that Draco overdosed a sleeping potion which he has been taken since 6th year and has become addicted to it. The detox process and recovery is not easy, with a side effect of not being able to sleep at all for a while. So Harry decides to keep Draco company in St. Mungo.
Malfoy eyed them suspiciously. “You want to play cards?” he asked flatly. “Yeah, I suppose I do,” Harry nodded. “Are you seriously trying to tell me that the famous Harry Potter has nothing better to do on a Sunday night than sit in hospital, playing cards with a virtual stranger?” Harry grinned. Put that way, it sounded ridiculous. “Yes. That’s exactly what I’m trying to tell you.” Malfoy gave an exaggerated roll of his eyes. “Merlin, and I thought my life was tragic.”
When he is discharged from hospital, he still needs daily medication and Harry offers to take care of it. Draco appears every night at Grimmauld Place for the potion, and slowly they build a cozy routine, a sweet domesticity.
Draco wanted Chinese food and Harry fancied pizza, so they compromised and ordered a curry. It was too hot for Draco and too mild for Harry, so neither of them was happy, but they took great pleasure in blaming each other for the unsatisfying meal.
Draco is so in character: he is difficult, arrogant, distant, and snarky, but he is also very vulnerable. It’s a lovely contrast. He’s like a wild animal who has to be tamed.
“Smugness doesn't suit you, Potter. You don’t have the bone structure for it.”
Harry is also true to character: so vehement and emotional, caring and everything he is.

Despite the long time span (six months) it was not overdrawn or boring, the pacing is perfect. The trust and attraction between them are built beautifully.
The magnitude of their conversation hit Harry hard as he watched Draco leave, and he was suddenly struck by an urge to acknowledge it. “Draco?” Draco turned in the doorway and looked at him expectantly, blond eyebrows raised. “Thanks for trusting me enough to tell me.” Draco’s expression softened for a split second before rolled his eyes and swept from the room, muttering something that sounded suspiciously like “Bloody sentimental Gryffindors.”
The trauma of the events of 6th year and the war taking its toll on both of them (nightmares, and in Draco’s case, addiction) was heartbreaking to see. I’ve never thought of this aspect before.
Strange Bedfellows is a great story, with many wonderful details. Plus, Draco wearing that too short Gryffindor t-shirt must be a sight to behold. Highly recommended!

Up until Owen witnesses Jeremy having sex in a sex club, he can’t stop thinking about it, thinking about Jeremy. So he asks something really special for his birthday. Out of curiosity.
“We’ve known each other a long damn time. Been friends a long damn time. This isn’t going to change that.” Was he really that naïve? “This always changes things.” “Fine. Then we’ll deal with it. But not tonight.”
Of course Jeremy can’t resist the request.
“Talk to me now, Owen. Tell me you like your birthday present. That you’re enjoying your little walk on the wild side.” Owen was shaking against him. “Jeremy I – yes.” “That’s all you’re going to give me?” Jeremy made a tsking sound. “Monosyllabic man-speak doesn’t work for me. Should I stop and try something else?” Owen’s voice was a study in frustration. “I fucking love it, okay? Don’t stop.”

Tons of erotic scenes – dirty, delicious, insane, wonderfully emotional sex scenes – but surprisingly there is a plot, too. Some family drama, friendship, a bit of non-communication, but not much.

Ooh, and what is "taboo" here??? Please don't tell me it's two men having sex...

Sam is turning 30 in three weeks, and he has a "20s Must Do List". One of the items on it is "Do something sexually taboo." It's a gay romance. I just don't get the title, it's upsetting.
At least I have a date tonight. Maybe just spending time with a woman will help me get rid of these random, intrusive, somewhat taboo thoughts.
It’s unsettling to think I’ve kissed a guy, but even more unsettling is that it makes my cock stir. It’s the taboo in it, I think. The thrill of doing something a lot of people frown upon.
“I just want to do something a little . . . taboo. If . . . I mean . . . we could experiment...
Doing the taboo—or just thinking about it—really seems to do it for me.
“I don’t think it’s wrong, ” I say hurriedly to Luke. “But it is . . . taboo, you know?
Why did I have to do the taboo with Luke? Yes, I liked being with Luke—really liked it. But it was the taboo of it. It was.

I considered quitting at the first chapter: crazy rich and perfectly beautiful characters, annoying frat problems. Then – for whatever reason – I went on.
But I skipped a lot of pages. A lot.
The frat house issues left me totally uninterested. The characters were too black and white, too papier-mâché. The storyline was predictable.
But the writing style is pretty good, the interactions of the two main characters are entertaining, the sex scenes are hot. Although too bad that (view spoiler)[Keaton’s first time topping (hide spoiler)] was off page.
The romance is sugary sweet and unbelievable, and apparently money can solve many things. Well, at least that’s true.
Bird Meet Cage is the story of a first love, starting in 1949, when Nathan, aka Floss and Jean, aka Stardust, aka Blue first met. But at those times, Bird Meet Cage is the story of a first love, starting in 1949, when Nathan, aka Floss and Jean, aka Stardust, aka Blue first met. But at those times, Nathan was too young, and Stardust was too adventuresome to stay. After twelve years the circus comes to town again, but is there a chance for Nathan and Blue? Is Blue ready to settle down? Does Nate feel the same?
The story is nicely written – not a surprise as it is an Anyta Sunday story, and that was the main reason I’ve read it, despite the fact that the circus theme and the time period are really not my things. Anyway, the atmosphere is catchy, and the characters are likeable. Something is missing though that could make this story a really memorable one. Maybe it’s too short, I don’t know. It easily could have been a full length novel. ...more
