W"Identical twins. Identical DNA. Identical suspects. It's Pretty Little Liars meets Revenge in this edge-of-your-seat thriller with a shocking twist.
When they were little, Lexi and her identical twin, Ava, made up a third sister, Alicia. If something broke? Alicia did it. Cookies got eaten? Alicia's guilty. Alicia was always to blame for everything. The game is all grown up now that the girls are seniors. They use Alicia as their cover to go out with boys who are hot but not exactly dating material. Boys they'd never, ever be with in real life.
Now one of the guys Alicia went out with has turned up dead, and Lexi wants to stop the game for good. As coincidences start piling up, Ava insists that if they follow the rules for being Alicia, everything will be fine. But when another boy is killed, the DNA evidence and surveillance photos point to only one suspect: Alicia. The girl who doesn't exist. As she runs from the cops, Lexi has to find the truth before another boy is murdered. Because either Ava is a killer…or Alicia is real."
So, when I read the synopsis on this book, my mystery loving brain thought I had to read it. 2 chapters in, I thought to myself "I already know how this is going to go, and it's so predictable..." I skipped ahead a couple of chapters, and read something that had me hooked, and I was like "whoa, now I have to find out what's going on..." After that, it read very quickly, and I seriously didn't know what was happening until right before it happened. It was an enjoyable read and it would keep anyone who loves mystery/suspense interested. I would recommend it to students in grades 9-12. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author! ...more

Her mind resets itself several times a day, and has since the age of ten, when the tumor that was removed from Flora’s brain took with it her ability to make new memories. That is, until she kisses Drake, her best friend's boyfriend, the night before he leaves town. Miraculously, this one memory breaks through Flora's fractured mind, and sticks. Flora is convinced that Drake is responsible for restoring her memory and making her whole again. So, when an encouraging email from Drake suggests she meet him on the other side of the world—in Svalbard, Norway—Flora knows with certainty that this is the first step toward reclaiming her life.
But will following Drake be the key to unlocking Flora’s memory? Or will the journey reveal that nothing is quite as it seems?
Already a best-selling debut in the UK, this unforgettable novel is Memento meets We Were Liars and will have you racing through the pages to unravel the truth.
This was reminiscent of a book I once read, "Before I Go to Sleep" by S.J. Watson, but it had it's differences. I liked reading it from Flora's point of view. Consistently throughout the book, she comes across as an unreliable narrator because she constantly forgets and gets confused, and you're not sure if you can believe what she thinks is real. There was a point in the book where I got really bogged down in the fact that she kept forgetting and having to figure things out all over again, and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I found myself "racing through the pages to unravel the truth" just as the synopsis warned. A solid read for fans of mystery and realistic fiction. Language and themes are appropriate for high school readers. ...more

Both characterThis story centers around a private school, a mascot suit, and a couple of teens who make up the entire Mystery Club, Benny & Virginia. Both characters have their flaws, but Benny just wants to solve mysteries and Virginia just wants to feel needed. While the story starts off with a bang, for me, it almost unraveled way too quickly, and then fizzled out at the end. I would have rather the author kept the ending under wraps just a little bit longer. It had parts that made me extremely uncomfortable to read, such as the locker room scene when the coach is talking to his players about sexual assault, but had enough mystery and story line to keep me going. Since reading it, I've discovered it's part one of a series, and so the ending makes a little more sense, as the author leaves it wide open for more. Without spoiling too much, I will say I had higher hopes based on the first 1/3 of the book, but it left me wanting more that never developed. As Maggie Thrash's first book, I'm hoping she hones her skills and sharpens her craft a little more before the next book comes out. If I get a chance at a second book, I'll pick it up to see if my predictions were correct. I found it an easy read, that had me snickering and giggling a lot as I could hear the teen voices shining through. Mature themes, sex, and language make this book suitable for mature high school readers, but adults will also enjoy it. Looking forward to book 2, if only to find out what happens next. Three stars. ...more

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been able to see countdown clocks over everyone's heads indicating how long before they will die. She can't do anything about anyone else’s, nor can she do anything about her own, which will hit the zero hour before she even graduates high school.
A life cut short is tragic, but Ivy does her best to make the most of it. She struggles emotionally with her deep love for on-again, off-again boyfriend Myers Patripski. She struggles financially, working outside of school to help her mom and her sister. And she struggles to cope with the murder of her best friend, another life she couldn't save. Vanessa Donovan was killed in the woods, and everyone in town believes Ivy had something to do with it.
Then more girls start disappearing. Ivy tries to put her own life in order as she pieces together the truth of who ended Vanessa's. To save lives and for her own sanity.
The clock is always ticking. And Ivy's only hope is to expose the truth before it runs out completely.
My review: This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I love a good suspense/thriller/mystery. I did enjoy it, and it was a pretty quick read. I like the style of writing that the author used to convey feelings and the passing of time. It grabbed me and made me want to keep reading it, and I love that about a book. The ending is satisfactory and will leave you with a sense of closure. I think fans of ya mystery will enjoy this book. Language and themes are appropriate for mature high school readers. ...more

No one knows what happened that morning at River Point. Five boys went hunting. Four came back. The boys won’t say who fired the shot that killed their friend; the evidence shows it could have been any one of them.
Kate Marino’s senior year internship at the district attorney’s office isn’t exactly glamorous—more like an excuse to leave school early that looks good on college applications. Then the DA hands her boss, Mr. Stone, the biggest case her small town of Belle Terre has ever seen. The River Point Boys are all anyone can talk about. Despite their damning toxicology reports the morning of the accident, the DA wants the boys’ case swept under the rug. He owes his political office to their powerful families.
Kate won’t let that happen. Digging up secrets without revealing her own is a dangerous line to walk; Kate has her own reasons for seeking justice for Grant. As investigates with Stone, the aging prosecutor relying on Kate to see and hear what he cannot, she realizes that nothing about the case—or the boys—is what it seems. Grant wasn’t who she thought he was, and neither is Stone’s prime suspect. As Kate gets dangerously close to the truth, it becomes clear that the early morning accident might not have been an accident at all—and if Kate doesn’t uncover the true killer, more than one life could be on the line…including her own.
My thoughts: Gosh, what can I say about this book to not give you anymore info that what is already given in the synopsis above? Okay first of all, I couldn't put it down. A friend told me about it, and being the mystery/suspense lover that I am, I knew I had to read it. Two, I just couldn't figure out what was coming....I kept trying to put it together, and I never did and that's what kept me interested. Twists, turns, surprises - I loved the whole thing. Go read it now. ...more
