"I just want to tell you something."
While Breaking Out was a paranormal story and I'm more used to Michelle Diener's historical and fantasy books, I ended up really liking the story. I like both Kell's point of view as well as Nate's. The story revolved more about Kel who was one asskicking lady surrounded by some mystery. Nate was a great character as well. I loved how fiercely protective he was about Kel. To make the story complete there was also Giles and I loved him right away. He was pretty hilarious It was funny to see how even though they had to escape, he and Nate could still be annoyed with each other while vying for Kel's attention. Throw in some bad guys, wanting to capture Kel again made this story really good. I wished it was a full story. I would love to find out more about Kel and the others and what might could happen to them on their next adventure. I think fans of Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress and Kelley Armstrong's The Darkest Powers series would love this story! -4/5
The Halloween Prince by Edie Ramer:
"It's entrancement. I'm entranced by you."
If you like cute and sweet, then The Halloween Prince is the right book for you. For me, unfortunately, it wasn't the best book. I do like cute and sweet books sometimes but with this one I wasn't feeling it. I wish I had liked it more but I wanted the characters to have a little more depth. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like I didn't like the main characters, Sarah and Ryan, because I did. But that was it, I only liked them. The story was like I said before sweet, very sweet with a little bit of danger. I'm too sure what I'm thinking about that dog. I mean, it wasn't a bad thing but yeah I guess it just wasn't my thing. -2/5
Medium Rare by Nancy Haddock:
"You may not like the term, Colleen, but you are a rare medium. One who is the real deal."
Medium Rare was a great story, that I thoroughly enjoyed. To me it seemed like a mix between the tv shows, Ghost Hunters and Ghost Whisperer, which I happen to both love, especially Ghost Hunters. But anyway, the story was really good, I also liked the writing a lot. It had a great flow and didn't get boring. Colleen was a fantastic main character. I love that she sees ghosts, had a business trying to help people who are having problems with hauntings. I also really liked Brick Frasier, a paranormal investigator. Him and Colleen definitely had some chemistry going and I liked reading about their budding romance in the end. I wish this story for a full novel so I could've read more about that. But, oh well, I enjoyed reading this story and will definitely check out Nancy Haddock's other books. -4/5
Midday Masquerade by Leigh Morgan:
"As the words were said, they could not be undone. Blood, death, fear, and blinding betrayal had sealed them, and bound them to Faelynn and all her female heirs."
Midday Masquerade started out really good but I lost interest kind of quickly and it turned a little sappy. There's nothing wrong with a little sappy but too much is too much. I just don't like it. Like I said, it started out good with the faerie stuff and the curse and everything but when it went to the present day I slowly started disliking it. It does have a good concept but since it's a short story it was too quick and not much character building, sadly enough. Primrose and Lorcan (love their names!) were not bad characters or anything. I liked them well enough but I'm a reader who needs more depth with the characters I'm reading about and yeah I know in a short story that's hard to achieve but still... I can't help how I feel. I wish I had liked it more! -2/5
Feel the Magic by Liz Kreger:
"It fought her. Enticed her. Threatened to scour her clean. Seduced her."
Feel the Magic was a likable story. I didn't entirely love it but it wasn't bad either. I liked the storyline, main character Jenna, writing and the magic but had a few issues with the names for different things like 'Practitioners', 'Nulls', etc... because I wasn't familiar with them. I could guess what they meant, of course but sometimes it was a bit confusing reading those things for the first time. But aside from that I enjoyed this story. I do love reading about things magical and as far as those stories goes, this was pretty entertaining and surprising. -3/5
Masked Attraction by Mary Hughes:
"I'll be Lady Mystery. And you can me My Hero."
Masked Attraction was one of those stories that have a good beginning but start going slowly down as you read more. Short stories are obviously not agreeing with me much lately but I can't help how I feel. I liked the idea of the wizards and shifters in this book. I love reading about all beings magical but I have a soft spot for both wizards and werewolves. Although I liked this aspect of the book, it wasn't enough to totally like it. I did like one of the main characters, Daniel. I loved the way he was introduced into this book and his voice. I was less of a fan of Zoe, though. I'm not sure what it was that set me off about her. I wasn't just feeling her, I guess. The romance between them wasn't too bad but a bit quick. And I do get that with a short story or novella it can't be drawn out or anything but I'm sorry, I can't get on board with quick romances like that. So yes to the wizards, shifters and Daniel, and no to the romance and Zoe. The plot of the story was also something I liked, although I had guessed pretty early on who the actual thief of the key was. Still, pretty well written! -2/5
Sian's Solution by Dale Mayer:
"A doctor, a savior of human souls and a raving advocate for change and equality—now a captive on a blood farm. Ironic. And her fault."
Now this is what I'm talking about! Very well-written, exciting and with vampires, Sian's Solution was in one word awesome. I'm also really glad it's connected to a series, which I'm definitely gonna try out. I loved how this story counted down the hours and minutes to something unknown until you reached the 'one minute'. That was so good! Sian was a great main character. I don't know much about her but I definitely liked her. It was fun to read this story, trying to put the pieces together as to what was going on and who exactly Taz is, which eventually got revealed. I also really liked him when he came into the story. He clearly loves Sian, even after the mistake she made with leaving him, which got him captured in the first place. And like I said it was very well-written and I mean that. Some of the other stories hadn't been too great in that department so it was definitely surprising and just fab! -5/5
Midnight Masque by Elle J. Rossi:
"This love is wrapped in so many layers, I'll never find the last piece of it."
Midnight Masque was another story that I really enjoyed. I'm also very interested in the series. I do love me some vampire stories! The main character, Josie, was awesome! She was fierce, strong, yet seemed to have a vulnerable side. I also fell completely in love with Keller. I don't even know him all that well but he was amazing. Alpha male, vampire, sexy and not to mention IRISH. Yeah, I love him. I also really liked the other members of GATE. They all seemed really great. I would love to get to know more about them. The story, overall, was also good. I liked the idea of this powerful vampire trying to take revenge on Josie because of what she did to him and oh yeah the fades were pretty scary as well. The writing was yet again good. This is a big deal to me because if writing in a story is bad, then chances are that I won't like it. Good thing this was not the case with this story. Elle J. Rossi seems like a great writing! Can't wait to read more by her! -4/5
When Midnight Comes by Lori Handeland:
"They had been one person, one heart and one soul."
The characters, writing and setting were pretty good but storywise When Midnight Comes wasn't my favorite. I liked reading about main characters Jack and Lucia. The writing flowed nice and was well-written. I believe I have once read one story by Lori Handeland so I knew in that department there wouldn't be anything lacking. The setting was New York in the 1800's so that was really great for me. I just couldn't get into the story. I'm sure other people would like it more but it's how I feel. I did like that this story was based on the legend of the Jack O Lantern so that's another possitive point. And the end was pretty nice too, since it ends well. -3/5
Overall:
This anthology was a bit of a challenge for me. I do love anthologies and have read my fair share of them but they weren't quite as long with this many stories. If I'm correct, this book is almost 600 pages long. I almost never read books that long but in one way it didn't seem that long exactly because it was divided in 9 different stories. But anyway... I liked the anthology for sure. I love everything about halloween, it's one of my favorite holidays and I'm glad I had to chance to read and review this box set. It definitely put me in the mood for halloween! Some series were better than others, of course but I did think many of them were excellent. I even found new authors that I'll definitely check out. A book like this is hard to read for sure but I'm settling on three stars in general. Also, I've added quotes from each story with my reviews. -3/5

I loved the story, the characters were so great to get to know and it was also a really well-written. In the past I've read the author's paranormal YA books which I have loved but I'm so glad she has branched out into historical romance now.
Lady Clara Prescott, a 29-year-old wallflower and secret author known as The Nightingale writer of the increasingly popular scandalous romance books is part of The Spinster Society. They are a group of women who take down the most dreadful of Mayfair's lords and fortune hunters to save the young ladies who have no one fighting for them. Knowing she's easily overlooked and often ridiculed by the ton, Clara volunteers to go on a new assignment to find one of their missing Spinster members. Finally she's going to have her own adventure. But to do that, she has to attent one of the most notorious house parties known as Devil's Night, and go up against a malicious Marquis who may be to blame for several young women going missing. At her side is Captain Bram Thorn, ex-navy captain and the only one who truly sees Clara beyond the drab dresses and spinster persona. If only she could see it as well. But one thing's for sure, he won't let her out of his sight and walk into danger alone.
To say I really enjoyed this book is a vast understatement. It was quite the page-turner and I couldn't get enough of reading about Clara and Bram. The chemistry between them was the chef's kiss as they say and absolutely loved Clara's confidence building as the story went on. I loved seeing it! The mystery of the missing Spinster member as well as the other young ladies was also really well-written and plotted out. But the romance still was my number one favorite thing in this book. I truly adored these two characters as a couple and will remember them for a long time to come.
My one and only minor point was that in between the mystery of the missing young ladies, Clara also received blackmail notes aluding to knowing who she really was, meaning her career as author of those scandalous romance books. I was curious to see who this mysterious blackmailer turned out to be and for me it was a bit of a let down, I've got to say. I hadn't expected it to be this person but still it didn't feel quite right with me. But on the other hand this was only a very minior blimp into an otherwise really enjoyable and entertaining historical romance. I really did love this book and haven't been able to put it down while reading.
If you like historical romances with steamy romance scenes, a mystery solving heroine and a dashing Scottish captain, you will adore The Scandalous Spinster. It was a promising first book in a new series by Alyxandra Harvey and I'm highly looking forward to the next books. I absolutely cannot wait!...more

That doesn't mean that this third installment was bad, it just wasn't as strong as the previous ones in my opinion. The start of the book was strong but for me it dwindled down once it reached the middle part and through the ending. I'm still very much looking forward to the next and final book, Diamond Kisses, but I hope I'll be more into it than I was with this one.
My main issue with this book was that it felt a bit the same as the first two books. The same things being rehashed over again. Not to say that there wasn't some developement in the story but not enough for me to say that I liked it more. Ily and Henri both did admit that their feelings are more than just lust but other than that I just didn't feel a lot of change in any characters or the plot.
I do have some positive things I want to say about Sapphire Scars. My favorite from the book was the author's writing. As always it was beautifully lyrical and almost liked poetry. Pepper Winters has a stunning way of writing and she also has a knack for writing very steamy scenes, which was no different in this installment of the Jewelry Box series.
So Sapphire Scars might've not been my favorite of the series so far but I found things that I did enjoy about it. My guess for the next book is that Henri's brother Q is going to show up at some point and I'm already looking forward to that on its own. And of course I hope the series bad guy Victor will be killed in the most violent way. And I hope my girl Ily is going to do it. Those are my theories and guesses for the final book. I'm hoping for a more kickass ending and Henri finding having a family that loves him because he deserves it after everything he had to go through with his father. ...more

TDark Restraint seventh book in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert. This wasn't my favorite book of the series and maybe even my least favorite. The previous book, Midnight Ruin, was such a big hit for me that I couldn't help being a little disappointed by this one. Don't get me wrong, it had good things going for it but it wasn't enough for me to rate it more than the three stars that I gave it. And it's a fair rating, in my opinion for this book.
This instalment features Ariadne Vitalis and Asterion who is also know as The Minotaur. In the story Ariadne is announced to be engaged to Dionysus while loving Asterion but seeing as he's her father's henchman she didn't see any way forward with that. This is a very simple explanation of the romantic plot but I just didn't love Asterion and Ariadne as some of the other couples in the other books. The spicy scenes were hot, yes. Katee Robert can write very intense and steamy romantic scenes. But with these two, I just didn't feel it as much.
If anything, the overarching plot with the Olympus politics and everything was more interesting to me than the romance between Ariadne and Asterion. It's not like I hated them or anything. They were okay characters but in the end I wasn't as much invested in them. I ended up liking, like I said, the overarching plot more and also loved the secondary characters like Dionysus, Hera and Psyche (from book 2, Electric Idol) who made an appearance as well, more than the main couple.
The book did a good job to set up for the series slowly ending, which I might cry about because I don't think I've ever read a long series like this one where I've consistently have been reading it. It's going to be a 10-part series so we should be getting three more books. And I'm really looking forward to reading those as I'm really interested to see how it'll all end and for the stories of the couples in those books. Book 8 will be about Icarus and Poseidon which I'm really exited about since we haven't seen much of Poseidon yet. I wonder what their vibe is going to be. Book 9 will be about Hera and Zeus. I'm the most excitedly about them with everything I know. And the 10th and final book will be about Hermes and two characters but we don't know who those will be. I'm hoping for at least Dionysus since he was in Dark Restraint and I really liked him but we shall see!...more
Unexpected five star reads are my favorite and always welcome but still I really had not expected Midnight Ruin to be one of them when I first startedUnexpected five star reads are my favorite and always welcome but still I really had not expected Midnight Ruin to be one of them when I first started reading the book. The other books in the series have all been between three and five stars so I never know what a new one is gonna bring. Maybe also because I knew the story had puppy play kink in it and I had never read a book featuring it until this one so I wasn't sure I was gonna like this aspect but I ended up liking it a lot actually. At this point Katee Robert can write any kink in a book and I will like it.
This book features Eurydice Dimitriou, Charon Ariti and Orpheus Makos. Eurydice is the younger Dimitrious sister (the others being Callisto, Persephone and Psyche). After Eurydice's heart got broken by Orpheus, she hasn't been sure where to belong. The upper or lower city? Her feelings for Charon, Hades's right-hand man also aren't helping since she knows she can't fully give herself to him as long as she hasn't had closure with Orpheus. Charon has had feelings for Eurydice for months but knows that Orpheus is still in her heart and Charon knows that they need to come face-to-face first and even maybe in bed with both himself and Eurydice. Meanwhile Orpheus isn't quite the golden boy that he once was. His brother Apollo has cut him off, Eurydice doesn't want anything to do with him, until Charon approaches him and invites him down to the lower city to work it out with her.
The romance in Midnight Ruin was top-notch and extremly sensual and hot. I loved it so so so so much. Eurydice/Charon/Orpheus may be my favorite romance of them all so far (I feel like I say this a lot with this series but that's how I'm feeling now). There was a lot of groverling when it came to Orpheus towards Eurydice and I loved every single bit of it. And the puppy play! I very much enjoyed that aspect of their roleplaying. I also really liked that Eurydice discovered she's more of a switch instead of just a sub. Love that for her. I loved all three characters but Charon has my heart. He's my everything now in this series. He was just perfect for both Eurydice and Orpheus, which was a surprise to all of them but they sure went along with it.
The romance was the main plot of this book, as well as with the other books in the series. But the micro plot went also steam ahead in this one. We got some new twists that honestly left me shocked and I didn't think this series could shock me anymore but Katee Robert certainly went for it. We also got a spicy sneak peek of the next book which will feature Ariadne and Asterion a.k.a. the Minotaur, which will have the forbidden love trope. Of course I cannot wait to read it. I have very high expectation of that one!...more
I was so excited to start this new book by Skye Warren. She's one of my favorite authors and I always try to read her newest book. And wow...4.5 stars
I was so excited to start this new book by Skye Warren. She's one of my favorite authors and I always try to read her newest book. And wow... I was pretty much blown away by Survival of the Richest. It was so freaking good that I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. That's something I almost never do, which only shows how much I enjoyed the story.
I read the prequel Trust Fund before reading this one where I met the characters of Harper and Christopher who were stepsiblings for only a few months. I thought I had figured out where the author would go with the story but I could't have been more wrong when Sutton entered the story in Survival of the Richest. Even though Harper has had feelings for Christopher for years, she felt intantly attracted to Sutton. And that's where the tug and pull began for me. You could say this is a love triangle but it isn't an ordinary one because it was all pretty complex with both the men and Harper.
I absolutely loved Sutton right from the start. I actually wasn't the biggest fan of Christopher in the prequel and a large part of the book because I was so smitten with Sutton. But I could see how Harper had complicated and mixed feelings about the both of them. There were quite a few sexy moments with the both of them and also one big and hot scene that actually caused me to drop my jaw. So yeah. There's no lack of steam in the story. Although I must say it isn't all sexy times and the chemistry between the character, it also involves a library that might or might not be torn down. As a reader I really liked how Harper took it upon her to try and save it.
The ending of the story surprised me because again I thought I knew how it would end. Silly me. Actually the through the whole book I kept being surprised at the twists it all took. I thought I was very much team Sutton but the ending has me leaning more towards Christopher now. And as this is a duology I'm guessing we'll find out who Harper picks in the end when the next book is releaeses, which I'm so excited for. I can't wait! Also, the appearances of some characters from the author's other books were really nice. Especially Blue, who's my favorite guy!
Overall, Survival of the Richest ended up being one of my favorite books by Skye Warren. The story was very steamy, complex and the cliffhanger ending made me want more. It was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions but I loved every bit of it.

It was definitely a rollercoaster of emotions but I loved every bit of it....more

If anything, things got kicked up quite a few notches in wickedness, depravity and uncontrollable lust. It's obviously not a surprise to me but I'm still amazed at how Pepper Winters has such a way with words. Her writing is beautifully lyrical, powerful and so intense.
The story picks right up where it left off at the end of Ruby Tears and things get much more dark very quickly. Now that Henri has freed himself from what basically was his conscience, he feels more himself than he's ever been which means Ily is his to do with as he pleases. I felt myself both hating and feeling sorry for him, much like what Ily was feeling throughout the book. But towards the end there absolutely was a shift I could feel in Henri, one for the better I think.
Ily, meanwhile, is really struggling. She has feelings for Henri, yes, but can't forgive him for being the reason for getting her in this position. I also felt a shift with her, acknowledging some things about herself like admitting she does have feeling for Henri and that she does like being hurt. I'm sure this shift will be even more pronounced in the next installment. But of course I think things will get worse for her before they get better. I'm also expecting Q (Henri's brother) to show up at one point to kill every bastard on that island. I will gladly wait for that moment.
And as per usual the book ended in a cliffhanger. So it's no surprise that I'm really can't wait for the next book, Sapphire Scars. There will be four installments in total so I have no doubt that the third book will be very important to how the last one will go. I'm so excited to find out soon!...more

It's the story of how Maximo and Enzo met and how Enzo came to be in de Costas' employment. At 53 pages it's very short but if you're a fan of this series like me you will devour it. It was also scorching hot and made me crave more of these characters....more
