"Everyone lies. To Themselves, to each other. It's a way to belong, to be included. To look important."
I honestly wasn't crazy about Good Girls Lie.
The beginning was too slow and without much of a story. To me, none of the characters were likable.
Let's meet the cast of women:
First, the novel starts with the introduction of a teenage woman from London, Ash Carlisle. She's starting a new school year in a well-known boarding school for young girls, Goode School. Ash is hiding something. Something painful and most likely deadly.
Second, there is Becca Curtis, a senior who is most of the time a mean girl. She's abusive but at the same time very lonely. Her mother is a senator who has never behaved warmly towards her.
Third, there is Camille Shannon, who’s Ash's new roommate. A girl who cries at night but won't tell Ash why.
Lastly, we have Ford Julianne Westhaven. The Dean of Goode School who has inherited the job as part of her family's legacy but who dreams of becoming a writer and moving to New York City.
When one girl appears to have committed suicide, Ash becomes a suspect. Dean Ford wants to believe Ash's innocence but when more clues point to Ash, she doesn’t know what to believe until a second girl is found dead.
I had issues with the behavior of the girls and their decisions. I found the mystery to be lacking.
vI’m sad this one didn’t work for me. I had high hopes. :(

Blessings is a heartwarming series I don't want to miss
I love going back to this town where people are nice to each other and they can help someone in need without a second thought.
This time, newcomer Sully Raines is looking for his birth mother. Sully is a recently retired firefighter who finds out he’s adopted after settling his mother's affairs after she passes away. The only thing he has left from his birth mother is a necklace. Sully knows he has never placed any real roots anywhere. Married once but it didn’t last. He feels like something is missing in his life. Finding his birth mother feels like the right thing to do. Of course, the search is not easy but the trail takes him down to Blessings, Georgia.
When he arrives in Blessings, he is a witness to a car wreck. Immediately, his firefighter instincts come forward and he pulls a woman from the burning car. In the emergency room, he discovers that the woman he helped in none other than his first love, Melissa. Once they realized who they are to each other, they don’t want to waste any more time and they want to pick up their relationship where they left it many years ago.
For Sully, Blessings will bring many surprises. All good for him.
I adore this series. It has a lot of heart and sweetness. For some, it might be too sweet and everything has a color rose-glass type of view but sometimes, I need this type of story to lift me up.
A great addition to the series. I can’t wait for the next one.

This was super cute and short!
The MC couple was fun to read about.
Stacey Bradford needs to get a new job and if she needs to become the personal secretary to the hotty who fires everyone and never sleeps with anyone at work, she can deal with it. The problem is convincing him to give her a chance. Then they officially meet and her plans are all going to hell.
Stacey believes in romance. She wants Marshall to fall in love with her and she is going to show him that he can. A date at the Clevelander in South Beach is the right ambiance for him to see her in a new light.
Marshall Royce doesn't date at work. He doesn't want a commitment. Then, Stacey becomes his personal secretary and he must make a decision about enforcing the rules or breaking them.
I love this short story. Things move fast but there is no other way to do it in a book of this length.
This Second chance novella written by Nora Roberts was fantastic! Perfect for the Christmas spirit!
Jack is coming back to his home town of Quiet Valley a decade after he left it. His heart was broken once but he’s ready to return to his roots. It doesn't matter that the woman he once loved is married to another man now.
Faith is a single parent after her divorce not too soon after her daughter was born. She takes care of Clara the best way she can. Faith's business is doing well and she likes the small-town living. She is content with her life. At times, she feels lonely and wishes she had a partner to share her life with. She has only loved one man but he chose to leave her behind and she has made peace with it until she finds him outside her doorstep.
Now, Jack is back and he wants to rekindle their romance but she is not alone. She has a daughter to think about. Clara comes first. How can they make it work?
A sweet and magical story. It left me with a big smile on my face.
A Season of Gemini is the Bonus Prequel in the Sons of Sanctuary MC. It tells the story of Garland St. Germaine and Brant Fornight.
Garland St. Germaine is forced by her father to go to Austin with him after finishing school. He provides her with the commodities since he's the owner of Germaine Enterprises and he's very rich. After getting in trouble for taking a picture during a celebratory occasion, he tells her, she must start business school and that she will go with him to Austin for the summer.
Brant Fornight is the son of the President of the Sons of Sanctuary Motorcycle Club. He's a mechanic who's working for the Yellow Rose Country Resort when he meets Garland. He knows she comes from money but he can't resist her allure.
First comes their first meeting, then a friendship and soon love. Unfortunately, the summer is close to ending and they have to decide about the future of their relationship.
Great beginning to the series. I was instantly interested in these characters and their love. I was rooting for them to end up together. I disliked Garland's father very much. A cold, unsympathetic and conniving man.

Two Princes is book 1 in the Sons of Sanctuary MC series.
Twenty-three years have gone by since we left Garland and Brant's love story behind.
In Two Princes, we meet two new characters: Brannach "Brash" Fornight and Brandon St. Germaine
Brash Fortnight is the son of the President of the Sons of Sanctuary MC. He is part of the MC. He does what is best for the club. His whole life changes, while waiting in line in a supermarket store. He notices a magazine and on the cover, he sees himself. A complete replica of him. Intrigued by the picture, he goes home and researches the man who has his face too.
Brandon St. Germaine is a successful man with his grandfather's company, Germaine Enterprises. He has done a cover for a magazine at the insistence of his mother, Garland. He's a workaholic who can make any business a prolific one.
Brigid Bailey is a Texas University graduate student. She is doing her thesis on Motorcycle Club life and the way they operate. In order to complete her thesis, she wants to be able to talk to one. A connection with a girlfriend's roommate gives her the invite to talk to the president of the MC, Brant Fornight. After some negotiation, her request is approved but with the condition that she has to live in the compound for three months. A bargain that pushes her to meet and be in constant contact with Brash.
It was fun following this set of characters. I love the twins after already meeting the parents. Their interactions and banter were fun to read. Brigid was also a good one. She was not scared or a pushover. I love how she was able to get away with interviewing the MC and left Brant speechless.
I want to read the next book since it's all about Brandon.

Book 1 of the Kent Brothers Trilogy.
Riley Jensen is coming back to her hometown of Deer Lake, one she thought she was never going to see again. She left it when she was eighteen and caught her boyfriend sleeping with her best friend, Amanda. She poured all her sadness into writing songs and became a huge Nashville star. Thanks to her publicist, she is back for a documentary on her life.
Ethan Kent is the proud father of a seven-year-old, Zoey. He would do anything for his daughter, including taking her to meet her music idol, Riley, the woman he lost when he made a terrible mistake. Ethan feels terrible about what happened with Amanda and Riley but he would not ever want to go back since his mistake lead to him becoming a father to Zoey. As a single parent, he tries his best to give his child the best of him but Ethan has never forgotten about the only woman he has loved and seeing Riley again, stirs too many feelings and hopes.
A sweet second chance romance perfect for the season. I thought Riley was quite forgiving and I truly believe Ethan was quite sorry for his mistake.
Besides the main couple, I absolutely loved Zoey. She was so cute and adorable. Points for Ethan for raising a sweet girl.

This is the first novella in the Twelve Brides of Christmas.
A short and cute novella about finding love in a small town.
Cassie Newman has moved to Woodstock to gain some anonymity. She prefers to lay low and live her life out of the limelight. In order to achieve this, she thinks that moving to a small town is the best way. She starts working for Stennett's Hardware and after a few months, she starts falling for her boss.
Luke Stennett has a lot on his plate. He's trying to keep the store afloat while dealing with his father's mental condition and also still grieving the loss of his mother. He also found out his parents were keeping a huge secret from him. The last thing he needs is a romantic relationship. Or is it?
I liked both Cassie and Luke. They were great together. Their chemistry was off the charts. They had a strong connection. I also love how patient Cassie was with Luke's dad and how sweet Luke was in general.
This novella is so easy to read and enjoy. It makes me want to read the rest in the series.

1991 and Baby, Baby is playing on the radio when the life of two best friends start to change.
Heather and Becca are best friends forever. They even buy the half-necklaces to prove it.
Heather is loved and cared for by her family while Becca is having trouble at home. Her mother is drinking and becoming violent.
Heather and Becca have two other friends, Gia and Rachel. The four of them form the Dead Girls Club. They have a love for the macabre. Reading about serial killers is something engrossing for them. Then, Becca begins telling the story of the Red Lady. A witch wrongly accused and murdered. When the girls perform a ritual to bring the Red Lady into their lives, death follows.
Fast forward three decades, and now Heather is a child psychologist. She's married and happy with her life. Then, she receives a package with Becca's necklace. Heather knows someone is behind this but could it be that the Red Lady is involved?
The Dead Girls Club failed to entertain me. I don't know if it was because I couldn't believe the choices the main character was taking. She went off the rails in 2.3 seconds and did a very poor job as a psychologist too. I just couldn't like her or believe her motives.
The ending wasn't rewarding either. It was just not for me.

The perfect addition to the Angel Falls series!
I was in the mood for a Christmas romance and All I Want for Christmas had the perfect ingredients.
Kaitlyn Barnes has had a thing for Rafe Langdon for a while. Her friendship with him grew into love. Just one problem.... Rafe doesn't want to settle down. He's not ready to open up his heart again. But when a night together has a permanent outcome, Kaitlyn and Rafe will have to decide what's best for them.
I was intrigued by Kaitlyn and Rafe. They had great chemistry and their story began in a prior book. I knew this was coming and I was super excited to read their book.
Kaitlyn was independent and smart. She knew she might not be able to count on Rafe and she was prepared to do what was right for her. She also started helping her niece, who by all means needed her help. It was nice to see how they were able to develop a much better relationship.
Rafe had to learn loss at a younger age. I couldn't blame him for not wanting to experience this type of pain again. It was funny to me to see how he was already too late. He loved Kaitlyn way before they shared that night together.
Miranda Liasson did a great job. The characters were likable and lovable. I love how Nonna sped up a situation, I love that we get a puppy added to the equation and having the rest of the Langdon family around only made this book more memorable.
The Angel Falls series is becoming one of my favorite small-town romances. I hope this is not the last one.

Gavin's Song is the perfect introduction to the trilogy!
We have seen Ginny appear in a few books and of course, we knew about Gavin too.
Here we get to learn more about Evangeline who now goes by the name of Ginny. We learned so many things like how she ended up knowing Hammer and ending up as a Coleman for a while and then ending up as a foster child for the Wests'. We see how her friendship with Willa developed and later on her friendship with Penni too. Then, how she ended up singing for Kaden and Mouth2mouth. We also learned a little bit about her stalker (or stalkers).
Gavin is a different story. We learned about his immaturity. His fights with Viper. His love for Taylor and how excited he was for their wedding and the start of a new factory for the brothers. Then, he gets kidnapped and tortured for TEN years. His abuse is the hardest part to read about this book. My heart was breaking for him. He became an addict by force. He lost faith in himself and in his club. His healing road is a long one and I'm excited to see how Ginny plays a part in it.
With Gavin's Song, Jamie Begley has given us their timelines in a precise way. We know everything about each of the characters before they formally meet and I love the way she finishes Gavins Song. It was the perfect entrance.
Jane Doe was such an amazing thriller! I loved reading about Jane's journey and I was so happy it had a sequel in Problem Child.
Jane is working in the city. She has her loving cat and she's still in a relationship with Luke (who's oblivious). At work, she's planning to punish another lawyer who has been using her work without giving her the proper accolades. Then, she gets a phone call. Her niece is missing. At first, Jane couldn't care less. She doesn't want anything to do with her family. None of them are good for anything. This is until she is sent a picture of her teenage niece and she realizes she has that empty stare Jane has herself.
Jane decides she needs to know for sure. Is her niece Kayla the same as she is or is the picture just a picture. With this in mind, Jane goes back home. She meets with her brother, who's in jail and her parents who are living still in the same place. Her mother has no lost love for Jane but Jane couldn't care less, she just wants to find her niece. During her investigation, she realizes that Kayla has gotten involved with the wrong kind of people. People who are powerful and who would not bat an eye about killing a young woman.
For the most part, Problem Child gave me all the right emotions. I love being in Jane's head and I love how deceiving she can be. She's a strong female character (which I adore) and just like Dexter, she can feel something for someone. I felt the storyline dragging in the middle of the book and I was losing interest in the search for Kayla. That brings me to my last point, I didn't like Kayla. I hope if there is a next book, Mrs. Stone changes my mind.
I wasn't shocked by the ending but it leaves the door wide open for a third installment.

Jane Doe was a pleasure to read. A female psychopath with the desire for revenge. Just wonderful!
From the first page, I was enthralled by Victoria Helen Stone's writing. I was obsessed with Jane and her callously and unapologetic way of using her mind and her body to gain the trust of Steven, her target. The man who was able to take away from Jane the only thing she valued.
Jane knew from a very young age that she was different. She has always been in control. Once, after taking a psychology class she realized what she really was. She does have some issues with impulse control. What Jane wants, Jane gets. In this case, Jane wants Steven to pay and if this means Steven family has to pay, more the merrier.
I love being in Jane's head. She manipulated Steven so well and he deserved whatever was coming for him. Her dark humor and her interaction with her cat had me either laughing or smiling most of the time. The addition of a certain ex-boyfriend to the mix made it all even more interesting for me.
"A cat. Another little sociopath to curl up beside me at night and keep me warm.”
Jane Doe is refreshing, twisted and dark but without the gory. The ending was perfection!

Georgina is having the second worse night of her life when the story begins.
First, her boss fires her without a real reason. Then, when she goes to see her boyfriend, she discovers him with another woman. He doesn't feel guilty because he tells her, he thought they were seeing other people. He never thought they were exclusive despite being together for six months.
Without a job, Georgina takes a job as a bartender at a new pub. Everything is going well until she realizes, that the co-owner of the pub is none other than Lucas McCarthy, the boy she fell in love in high school. At first, she has no idea how to behave around him but soon she discovers, he has no idea she was the girl from school.
Georgina doesn't have a great relationship with her mother and an even worse one with her stepfather. Same goes with her sister but she does get along with her brother in law. There are some secrets she's keeping from them and they feel like Georgina had ruined her potential after dropping out of college. Luckily, Georgina has a set of amazing, supportive friends.
I liked Don't You Forget Me. It was more a story of self-discovery than a romance. I love Georgina's friends and how they had her back. The book made me laugh and teared up at times too. Lucas made me mad for the longest time but the end had me forgiving him and I might have swooned a little bit too.

Why is this series still standing? Because Seanan McGuire created an amazing world we don't want to part ways from. I'll probably cry when it does.
We are now on book 13 and I don't want this to end. I love Toby. She's a strong female character with a great heart and a knack for getting into trouble. Being "hero" of the realm comes with its drawbacks.
I'm glad at the beginning of the book, Toby is enjoying a nice night with her family before the Luidaeg's comes to visit. It was nice to see all of the kids, Jaz, and Tybalt all relaxed for a change.
The Luidaeg is coming for payment. Toby owes her a lot and it's time to settle her debts. As payment, Toby and friends will accompany the Luidwaeg to the sea and travel to the Duchy of Ships to have the Selkies pay their own debts. Of course, nothing is simple when Toby is around.
I love seeing Tybalt and Toby together. He's so Shakesperean and he always delivers perfect lines that make me laugh or swoon. Quentin has grown so much as a character. He's now a man, almost ready to leave his blind fosterage. Dean is also becoming his own person and ruler which Marsha is making sure he does. Marsha is an intriguing character. I wonder if she will have a more important role in the next few books. She certainly did in this one. Pete was a nice addition and a surprise. I hope to see her again but probably not. I love to see Deanda again. She's another favorite of mine. The addition of the Merrow's conflict made the plotline more interesting too.
What can I say about the Luidaeg? She's probably my favorite character after Toby and Tybalt. She can be funny. She has helped Toby so many times. She loves Quentin. She has been in terrible pain for so many years thanks to her own sister. I hope after this book, she achieves some type of peace.

“Is that Weather, like ‘Stormy Weather’?”
In Winter Prey, we have Lucas Davenport assisting the police with a murder case during a terrible winter in Wisconsin.
A family has been murdered and their house has been burnt. A photograph of a man and underage high school kid points to the reason for their demise. When the local Sheriff calls Lucas for help, he can't resist. Lucas is bored and his video games and life at the cabin are not enough to entertain him.
The baddie on this one goes by the name of the "Iceman". A cold-blooded killer who will stop at nothing until he can save himself from being discovered.
Lucas Davenport keeps on growing on me. He can be petulant, but he can be funny too. I love how in this one, Lucas meets a woman, Weather Karkinnen who seemed to be one step ahead of Lucas with her comebacks and sarcasm.
I also enjoyed (from the warmth of my home) how John Sandford makes winter a character in itself with freezing temperatures and winter storms making the chase for the killer even a more difficult one.

Silent Prey follows Lucas as a consultant this time for the NYPD.
Lily Rothenburg comes to Minnesota to ask Lucas to come to her city to catch Bekker, the deranged criminal from Eyes of Prey who escaped during his trial to NYC. Dekker is not only killing his victims but he's also publishing articles about his "medical findings".
For her part, Lily wants Lucas to help her with her own investigation into a group of possible rogue cops nicknamed, Robin Hood who are murdering people who they consider dangerous. When one of Lily's cop friends, Walter Petty, who's investigating Robin Hood gets murdered, it makes it personal for her.
Silent Prey was easy to enjoy. Even though I haven't liked Lucas because of his philandering ways, he's starting to change or at least he's trying. He's still an arse but not a complete one. He does make me laugh and he's a true detective. I like how he pieces things together and he always gets to surprise me with something.
I wasn't a fan of Bekker and in this one, he was even weirder. I have no clue how a psychopath like him who was always high on so many things could even move, let alone plan and abduct anyone.
The Robin Hood storyline was much more interesting to me than the Bekker one. Sandford made no one safe and that kept my interest going.
I've decided to stick with this series and hope for the best.

Eleanor Oliphant is nothing further from being fine!
I finally got a chance to read Eleanor Oliphant. I was worried about all the hype surrounding this novel and I kinda dreaded starting it because I didn't know if I was going to like it.
I know now that all the hype is worth it. Eleanor is unique. She's different than anyone else I have ever read about. At first, it was hard to get into the story. I found Eleanor to be cold and unlikable. That changed quite fast. By the middle of the book, Eleanor had made me laugh and tear up too.
So who's Eleanor?
Eleanor is a lonely woman living a very lonely existence. When she was a kid something happened which left Eleanor to grow up in the foster care system. As an adult, Eleanor is living in Glasgow. She has been working for the same company for nine years. She doesn't have any friends or any family to speak off except for mommy whom she talks to every Wednesday. On her weekends, her routine includes staying in, eating frozen pizza, and drinking two bottles of Vodka. Her only company is a plant and her books. Then, a fortuitous event brings her close to a co-worker, Raymond, the IT guy.
Raymond is very different from Eleanor. He's jovial, friendly, dresses comfortably and the best part he doesn't seem to mind Eleanor's lack of social skills. If anything, he actually smooths things over when necessary but he doesn't think of her as weird or someone who needs to change. He accepts her the way she is. If anything, he just wants to support her as a friend.
I can't believe this book was a debut novel for Gail Honeyman. Eleanor is an unforgettable character. Her bluntness, her grammar, her dry sense of humor made her so distinctive.
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is a witty, funny, poignant and hopeful novel.

What a dark and possible nightmare!
In the near future, people are using self-driving cars. One day, eight passengers are taken hostages by a mysterious voice. Their routes are modified and they are told they are in a collision course to their death. Social media and a group of selected people are all in charge of selecting the sole survivor.
Who would you pick?
The pregnant female? The husband or wife? The abused wife? Or the man you met once and had a connection with?
The hacker has placed cameras inside each of the cars. He also has cameras inside the Vehicle Inquest Jury, where Libby Dixon is a Juror. Each of the passengers will have a chance to defend their lives as the sole survivor. The only problem is that each of them is hiding a terrible secret and the man behind their abduction seems to know their deepest secret. A secret so terrible that death could be a better choice.
What made The Passengers so exciting and scary is that it could become a possibility in the near future. The idea of self-driving cars is not outrageous any longer. I for one, hate driving, and I'm not sure I wouldn't love a self-driving car. Although, after reading this book, I'd think about it twice. Maybe I'd chose a level 3 and not a 5.
John Marrs does a wonderful job with The Passengers. He gives us great characters, a fantastic plot and at least two very good twists.

One of my favorite debut romance novels this year!
Well Met by Jean Deluca surprised me with its originality and charm. I was taken by the characters early on. I was invested in their relationship and my wish was for a happy ending.
Things I enjoyed:
Enemies to lovers story: ✔ A love between a Pirate and a Wench: ✔ Good secondary characters: ✔ A Renaissance Faire: ✔ Hot guys fighting: ✔ A Kilt and Leather Pants: ✔
Emily moves to Willow Creek, a small town in Maryland to help her sister and her niece. Emily's sister, April was involved in a car accident and she's still recuperating. Emily is taking care of all the chores and driving her niece, Caitlin to school and April to the doctor's appointments and physical therapy.
Emily was able to be there for April because her own life had imploded. Her boyfriend of many years, Jake, had dumped her without a second thought. Without a home or a relationship, Emily takes the opportunity to forget about her problems by helping others, and hopefully, come up with a plan for her future too.
When Emily takes Caitlin to sign up to play a part in the Renaissance Faire, the last thing she thought was that she needed to sign up herself or Caitlin couldn't join it. Next thing she knows, Emily is going to be playing one of the tavern wenches.
"That was what I was there for. Be the cool aunt. Do the fun stuff. Distract her."
Emily likes the small-town people feel. Emily is enjoying making new friendships and the feeling of being accepted by everyone. Well, maybe not everyone. The English teacher is not too keen on her. Simon never appears happy to see her and he keeps on looking at her with disapproval. He's the Renaissance Faire organizer and wants everything done to perfection.
"I knew which of these two guys I was looking forward to getting to know better this summer, and it wasn’t the Ren Faire Killjoy."
However, when Emily turns into Emma, the local tavern wench and Simon Graham turns into a pirate, Captain Blackthorne, everything is different. Simon becomes flirtations, easy-going, and has a smile on his face. A smile that makes Emily forget about her first impressions of him.
“Well, love. I’d be fighting for you.”
Well Met was sweet, charming and left me with a smile on my face. I would love to read another book by Jen DeLuca set in the same town. Maybe one with Mitch and April.
"But then you came along, Emily, and you weren’t a should. You were a want."

What a great beginning this novella had!
Imagine reviewing your outside front door camera footage (not uncommon in the age of the Ring and the Nest) the morning after hearing your next-door neighbor's dog barking in the middle of the night and seeing an almost naked woman with a shackle hanging from her wrist banging on your door trying to get someone to help her. This is exactly what happened to Sarah and Kenny Tucker.
After the shock, the couple calls the police. Of course, the police immediately wants to know if Kenny knows the woman. Kenny denies it. Soon the news gets ahold of the story and the video goes viral. Everyone wants to know who this woman is and where is she. For the police, anyone in the neighborhood is a suspect including Kenny.
Like I said earlier, great beginning. The novella has a fast-paced and suspenseful narrative. It was hard to pinpoint who had taken this woman. Despite Sarah and Kenny having a good marriage, Sarah couldn't be sure Kenny didn't have something to do with her appearance and for that matter, her disappearance.
The Girl on the Porch was intriguing with good characters but the end failed to woo me. It was disappointing. It was choppy and incongruent with the rest of the book. Everything happened so fast. I felt like there could've been a whole chapter cluing us in and leading us into that ending. Otherwise, it made no sense. Quite a shame because it had a great promise.
