It made me cry on different occasions, but I cried the most after I finished reading it. I was envious that someone out there has the ability to write such a beautiful story.
It's such an intimate book that I don't really know what to say about it, other than I feel privileged to have read it....more

This book was so bleak but with a touch of light. It was so hard, yet so tender at the same time.
I absolutely loved the three women who are the focus of this story.
The end shattered my heart, then built it up again. But it is still very much bruised.
Bottom line: a very beautiful and heart-wrenching story about love, perseverance, and compassion. A story that sheds a necessary light on how it meant to be a woman in Ireland in the aftermath of WWI and also about the dark history of Catholic covenants for the "ill reputed women"....more

There is a letter inside the book directed to white men which describes white colonialism and the dehumanization of indigenous peoples in such a powerful way.
So many parallels in that letter to what's been and still happening in Palestine.
Indigenous peoples understand what it means to be occupied, dehumanized, and stripped out of rights. Our indigenous brothers and sisters have been chanting with us at every demo: "From Turtle Island to Palestine, occupation is a crime." ...more

One of the best short story collections I've ever read. The writing is top-notch and has some of the most memorable characters. Loved the discussed themes, mostly about human relationships, especially romantic ones. Favorites: 1. Outthere 2. The Bone Ward 3. Big Sur

To accept the instant in its pure, condensed form without allowing language and its obsession with narration to dilute the intensity."
Claudia Pineiro does it again! Brilliant and perfect. I don't remember the last time I cried that much reading a book.
A lot of people hate when authors use repetition in their writing, but Pinerio does it so well. Those repetitions of certain phrases or events act as some type of meditation on those events, searing them onto your brain.
This book made me feel so much, and I will never forget these characters. I can't believe I am capable of loving these fictional characters, but here I am virtually hugging Mary, Federico, and Ariana. ❤️...more

This is a book about two soulmates finding their way back together while navigating grief and heartbreaks. And they do that in the most mature way that one would hope people do in real life, which I think some do because this felt very realistic.
I went in not expecting much and intimidated that the audiobook was about 13 hours long, but ended with it being one of my favorite contemporary romance books.

This is a literary fiction novel that covered so much just by following the life of our protagonist, Rachel. A coming of age story of a 21 years old young woman and her friendship with the rather eclectic James that will bring her happiness, sadness, disappointment, but most importantly, a sense of belonging. Don't we all chase that feel?! Of belonging somewhere, to someone. Feeling not only loved but appreciated. Feeling that we matter to someone.
In following Rachel in her journey to adulthood, watching her experiencing love, deep friendships, school crush, betrayals, closeted queerness, cheating, finding one's passion, class, recession, female body rights, and so much more. We also watch her make bad, sometimes horrible, decisions. But we can't really judge her without judging ourselves and our societies. No one prepares you for adulthood and being your own person. We're limited to what our parents know, think, and have for the first two decades of our lives, and then we have to go out and forge new lives for ourselves. And to do that, you need to be open and let new people into your life, and with that comes risks but also richness that you won't find otherwise.
I don't know how to express my love for and admiration of this book. You have to read it to see it for yourself....more
