Having had struggled with weight her whole life, she has now lost the weight and her self-esteem has grown. However, with Peter Lambright breaking their courtship, Susannah was sure it had to do with her weight. When she goes to help her grandparents after her grandmother suffered a broken bone, Susannah is forced to see Peter again. Peter is working for her grandfather on his potato farm.
Susannah has trouble being around Peter. Yes, she has slimmed down and has adjusted her menus to include healthier options, and she walks as much as possible to stay in shape, but her heart has been damaged and she does not have the ability to forgive, although her faith is strong.
Peter has his reasons for breaking the courtship, and he is honoring a promise to not tell Susannah why he did. However, he still cares for her and she for him. But, she is determined to keep her distance.
In this sweet story, we see how weight can affect one's self-esteem. Also, forgiveness lines the pages of this story. Lastly, honoring a promise can break one's heart. What a lovely story that brings it all together to find a way to love. The heart shines through it all.

Eve only knew difficulties with her very strict father. She finds Levi's family and neighbors to be completely different, even if gossip flails about concerning her and Levi's sudden marriage. I loved the pacing in this book and how this warm read turned a tragedy into a blessing. Watching Levi and Eve's relationship develop as they began to know one another was quite enjoyable.
What a wonderfully sweet story! I loved watching this couple find love, proving others wrong, and holding tight to their faith. The characterizaion in this story was wonderful, giving me quite a warm feeling. Not sure if this will be a part of a series, but, if so, I will be there for any additional books.

The community in northern Maine is relatively new and until now, the children have been attending an English school. As Eva is getting settled, she soon meets one of her neighbors, Willis Gingrich, a blacksmith. She discovers that Willis is raising his three younger siblings. Their parents were killed in an accident and now Willis is their guardian. All three children will be Eva's students.
It doesn't take long for Eva to fall in love with Willis's siblings, especially his little sister. She also takes well to the challenge of teaching for the very first time. However, her brother come to visit and shares a missive with her: she is instructed to return home to care for an ailing in-law.
Will Eva leave the family she is so drawn to or will she manage to stay where she is? It doesn't take long for Eva to feel very drawn to Willis and his family. However, there is something that Willis is hiding - not just to Eva, but to his siblings as well. I don't want to mention exactly what that is because it is most likely a spoiler. But I wanted to touch on it because it is a very serious issue for an Amish fiction. I applaud Patricia Davids to bring this into this sweet romance.
I have read and loved all three books in the North Country Amish series. The Amish Teacher's Dilemma is a remarkable story and is one that I would love to reread. Ms. Davids writes each story so well, and I must admit that I cried more than once while reading all three stories, but was always left with a warm happy feeling as each book drew to a close.

When he runs into someone froCorbin Beck is hardly prepared to become a father to his toddler brother Mikey when he suddenly appears on his doorstep. When he runs into someone from high school, Samatha Alcorn, and finds out that she is staying in town for a while, and what is more, is experienced in child care, he hires her as a live-in nanny.
Samantha has had a difficult past. As a teen she was all about partying. Then she experienced a devastating loss and turned to alcohol. Although she has not had a drink in over two years, Corbin's difficult past with his parents and their alcohol dependence is something that is a cause of concern for him. He is more than drawn to Samantha and the more time they spend caring for Mikey, the more difficult it becomes for Corbin to face his feelings.
Samantha has more than her past to contend with. She is keeping a secret from Corbin and is sure once he knows what is really going on that any growing feelings developing between them will be dashed to pieces. They must consider Mikey's well-being and why he was deposited on Corbin's doorstep. Then they must deal with how Corbin is more than hesitant to have an alcoholic in his life and future.
Not only is Samantha truly drawn to Mikey and Corbin, she feels so welcomed by the town that held little respect for her while she was in high school. Does she have a future in that town? What is more, does she stand a chance with Corbin.
Child on His Doorstep touches on another serious issue of loss, other than alcoholism. Although a very quick read, this book delivers a full, satisfying story, one with the dependence of faith that leads to real hope. Although this is the second book in the Rescue Haven series, it was such a touching book that I want to go back and read the first, The Secret Christmas Child.
Lee Tobin McClain is a new name to me and I love seeing that she has a nice backlist. Her writing style incorporates faith, love and family and wraps it all up in a wonderful story, one that captured my attention from the very beginning to a very warm ending.

When Esther Burkholder's stepmother brings her and her stepsisters to visit an Amish community in Maine, it is with the very attempt to get the girls married off to the Fischer brothers. There is no doubt in Esther's mind from the very start that Gabe Fischer is a wonderful, kind and handsome man. But, there is one problem, and a major one at that as far as Becca is concerned. She is deaf and Gabe is not. Due to a previously heartbreaking experience, Becca has determined that when she chooses to marry it would have to be to a deaf man.
Becca and Gabe meet when one day he sees her about to get struck by a car. He doesn't realize at that time that she could not possible have heard the car approaching. In saving her, Gabe inures his arm. Since Becca and her family are staying with Gabe's family, she ends up assisting him at his leather goods shop. The two spend a lot of time together and even though feelings begin to grow between them, Becca is determined not to fall for a hearing man.
This sensitive story had my attention from the very start. It was impossible not to fall in love with the characters, but especially Becca. She wore her heart on her sleeve and was a remarkable young woman. Gabe was also pretty wonderful. His kindness showed through and I loved watching this pair find their way towards everlasting love.
Amish fiction is truly one of my favorite genres. I love the easygoing stories, the slow burning romances and the warm feeling that accompanies every book I have read in this genre thus far. This series by Patricia Davids is very sweet, as is everything that I have read by her thus far.

Well, in this remarkable story by Patricia Davids, that is exactly what happens.
Becca Beachy is a widow trying to manage a farm with her ailing father-in-law and her young daughter. She is widowed and things certainly are not easy. One day an Englischer shows up at her doorstep with a calf he accidentally hit. The man, Tully Lange, is very worried about the small animal and is determined to see it through its recovery. At the same time, Becca's father-in-law sustains an injury that will force him to be in bed for quite some time.
It is the Christmas season and things have certainly gotten off to a bad start. Tully realizes right away that the family - even more so than the injured calf - is in dire straits. He offers to render his assistance at the farm for as long as is needed. The problem that develops is that Becca and Tully clearly have feelings for one another - but this is something that is forbidden in the Amish faith.
How will this story turn out, especially considering the fact that the Amish have very strict rules? What is more is that Tully has been dealing with his own drama and there is grave concern as to whether that baggage could ruin even the smallest glimmer of hope for him and Becca. I truly loved this story and am so very glad that my online library had a copy that I was able to read and enjoy.

He has his nephew Danny with him when he is suddenly grabbed by a man whose intent is to grab Danny. A shout, Stop! Police! foils his attempt and before he can do anything about it, the man grabs Melissa and shoves her into a van. The woman who shouted was dressed in plain clothes and was accompanied by a dog. As it turns out, Rookie K-9 officer Ashley Hanson stopped the man from grabbing Danny, which was actually his intent. She is accompanied by her K-9 partner, Ozzy. Ashley is new in town and has just been added to a multiagency task force with hopes of tracking and catching a serial killer.
As a rookie officer, Ashley is excited that she will be a part of the task force, but with the sudden kidnapping of Melissa, Ashley is immediately reassigned. Her new boss insists it is because she was a witness to the kidnapping, and also due to the fact that her partner Ozzy is excellent when it comes to tracking.
The serial murder case is a big deal, and Ashley excitement from becoming a part of the task force was clearly short-lived and now she feels stuck. Guarding over Cade and Danny, and searching for Melissa, well this is not what Ashley had in mind. Quite naturally, Ashley wants to quickly reunite Danny with his mother, but that task force was important to her.
This warm and engaging story has Cade and Ashley as excellent characters, characters who sense an immediate connection, despite what is going on. Ozzy steals many scenes throughout, and if you like dogs, you will love Ozzy. The romance was sweet and the intrigue and action went a long way in making this first book in the Mountain Country K-9 series a compelling read, and I do hope I get to read the other four books in the series.

His distressed daughter Shannon shows up and she is in a bad way, and leaves her toddler son with him. Lane is instantly attached to baby Tate. He hadn't seen his daughter in quite awhile and is caught by surprise. But he wants her to get the mental health treatment that she needs, and Lane knows that he has to do the best that he can do for Tate. This begins with finding Tate's other family, and that leads him to Julia Frazier, Tate's grandmother. Julie is the town's veterinarian and had no idea that the son she lost, Steven, is the father of the infant.
Lane and Julia find themselves at odds almost from the moment that they meet. For one thing, Lane is very worried about Shannon, and Julia is still saddened by the loss of her son, and is shocked to learn that he had married and had a child. But, putting those worries aside, Julia is not too enamored by the reclusive lifestyle that Lane leads and she wants to be the one who cares for Tate.
Tate and his care comes first to both Lane and Julia, even if they are at odds. However, there is the undeniable fact that sparks are there for the both of them. As this is an inspirational romance, the story was very sweet, with reminders of putting the important matters into the hand of a higher power, something that both Lane and Julia had in common. As delightful as this story was with Lane and Julia as protagonists, baby Tate was utterly adorable. But there was also the loyal and loving rescue dog Rowena. His Unexpected Grandchild was a warm and wonderful story and is definitely deserving of five stars.

She wants her mommy, a woman she has never met. Joe wants more than anything to give Lottie a stable, two-parent home, because he has a sense of loss from his past that he does not want passed on to his daughter.
Hazel is staying at a lovely Amish B & B while she studies for a test that will get her the job of her dreams. She has flown airplanes for years, but has dreamt of flying commercial. While staying at the B & B she meets single father Joe and his adorable daughter. His little girl is in awe of airplanes, and thinks if she gets on the right plane she can find her mother.
Meanwhile, Hazel's daughter Maddie is in the UK visiting her father, and talks regularly with Hazel about the difficulties on getting to know him and his family. Hazel would not take back one second of her life with her daughter but now it is the time to live her dreams. Meeting Joe gives her pause.
Joe is a catch and more than one mother in his daughter's preschool class would love to snare him, but he wants more than a mother for his child, as important as that is for him. In fact, he wants a companion, and that just might come in the form of Hazel. However, she plans on being up in the sky with regard to his career, and he wants stability for his daughter.
What a sweet story by Patricia Johns. I love the backstories in this book. Not just Hazel and Joe's stories, but the B & B owner Melinda and how she is affected by unrequited love. Yes, a wonderful story all around and I cannot wait to read the third book in this series later this fall.

His feelings for Charlotte go beyond friendship, but he does not know how to tell her.
Meanwhile, after a medical checkup, Charlotte discovers that her days of motherhood might be over. Shockingly, however, the opportunity is literally dropped in her lap. A baby shows up on her doorstep, and Charlotte just might have the opportunity to mother baby Amber permanently. However, Amber needs two parents, and although Charlotte was concerned that being Amish to an Englisch baby might be problematic for the social worker, it is her unmarried status that might remove the opportunity.
No worries. Charlotte has picked out Glenn Esh. Now, to bring him around. It is also very important for Charlotte to maintain her friendship with best friend Paul.
I loved this story. Charlotte does have a grown daughter who is married and about to have her own baby, but by all rights she is still a young woman in her early forties that deserves a happily ever after of her own. Can she become a wife to Glenn and a mother to Amber? If so, what about Paul and his very strong feelings for Charlotte.
While things seem impossible, Amy Lillard has done a remarkable job with this emotional story that brings two people together for a happy future. It was also nice to see the Amish in the position of adopting and fostering. This is a delightful addition to a series that I only began with book ten, Romancing Nadine. As soon as my schedule lifts a bit I intend on reading the first nine books in the series before book twelve is released. ...more

Even with the love of her siblings, Keturah finds herself quite lonely and has begun to pour her heart out in the letters she has been writing.
Although this book is named An Unexpected Amish Christmas, there was not a Christmas feel to this story. That did not take away from the wonderful love story where Keturah finds her heart nearly split in two.

Sorvila is drawn to Isaac and is not bothered one bit about his stuttering. However, his shyness makes it difficult for her to discover whether or not he is drawn to her as well. However, his duty and kindness has her thinking that the two might suit.
Not about to happen, as sparks fly between Gideon and Fern. While the two slowly warm to one another, there is another story taking place. More than the organic farm coming to the market, Gideon takes on a surly teen at his barbecue stand. There is a lot of drama and it just might involve the teen named Adian. This adds an extra layer to an already engaging read, thus making this first book in this series an absolutely wonderful read.

If he had his way, newcomer Noah Riehl would like to go to work everyday a the local Farmer's Market in Lancaster County and then go home. However, a If he had his way, newcomer Noah Riehl would like to go to work everyday a the local Farmer's Market in Lancaster County and then go home. However, a stormy woman named Caroline changes everything for him. Caroline has recently led her team to a win in a volleyball game and has upset one of the other players. When he approaches her, Noah is nearby and before he knows it, Caroline declares that he is her boyfriend.
Although it was only for the moment, Noah and Caroline are fake dating, and it doesn't take long for their feelings towards one another to grow. Caroline works for her brother Gideon at his Market Barbecue stand and he had already experienced Caroline being distracted over a boy once before. Now that she has a new boyfriend, his busy stand is often understaffed as Caroline is frequently distracted. Meanwhile, Noah has a backstory that has become fodder for gossip, but Caroline refuses to allow that to influence how she is growing to really care for him.
This is a strong story of faith, and reclaiming that faith. In order to be in good standing with their Amish faith, both Noah and Caroline must make wise decisions that will impact their future. This was a very engaging addition to a lovely series. And of course, Mrs. Vandenburg, over the age of 90, played an important role.
