It offered a taste of realism as well as adventure and excitement, without the tedious focus on blood, bodily fluids and general nastiness that most authors striving to offer authenticity dwell upon. In short, read better, but certainly read worse....more

Once you open it, you won't be a useful member of society until you have completed it, and even then, you will be compelled to start the third book at once. That being said, once you enter this world, you will wish you never had to leave. I hardly know what to say about this book except that every character grows to fulfill every expectation and you will meet the crown jewel of the series here: Nighteyes....more

Fitz has been living away from people for many years, with Nighteyes and the occasional visit from Starling his only contact with his old life, when his oldest and most highly cherished friend comes to pay him a visit... and turn his quiet life up on it's end. It's hard to find words to describe how I delighted in this book. Suffice to say, the entire series is a high and beware the hangover, because the return to real life after such an immersion into the Realm of Elderlings is much like missing the trampoline after a particularly good jump....more

Adventure and humor and the taste of danger with the now extinct dash of honor and chivalry in combat will greet you when you crack open this book and it's many companions. Biggles is like a time capsule taking you back to an age before race and gender ruled everyone's minds and you were no more or less than what you could make of yourself. Treat yourself to a wonderful ride through the sky, you won't regret it!...more

Clare and Jamie are aging, which is kind of interesting to read because most authors would gloss over that. Lots of drama as per usual. Lots of scandal as per usual. There were a lot of obscure fun facts to learn, and as usual, the storytelling was great. But seriously, I have to say this. Only a modern novus ordo Catholic could POSSIBLY mis-portray a traditional Catholic under persecution the way this poor author does. They might as well be protestants or more accurately non-denominational. Jamie is a Freemason, which is grounds for excommunication, attends heretical services which is also a massive no-no, and any number of other things that a Catholic from the 1700s just wouldn't do. Other than this rather glaring discrepancy, this was delightful in it's historical accuracy and for once I didn't want to red- pen the grammar, spelling and period- impossible words. (Although I do rather wonder how much sh*t and f**k were used back then.) And one last complaint; it ends on ANOTHER cliffhanger, and we should expect another nine to ten year wait to have that resolved. If I were you, I'd wait on this one until the next book is about to be published, or just give it a miss altogether....more

I even recognized another author's character, who had been given a new name. Not very good form, I have to say. However, I am going to look at this as a multi-crossover fanfiction, and in that category, it's pretty great!...more

I do not care about Navani and her asinine mistakes, nor do I care about Shallan and her MPD. Ok, Adolin and Maya are interesting but I only want to hear about Kaladin. Cause he's amazing. This book developes Wit and Rysn some more, as well as Rlain, which is cool. But there is far too much Navani for my taste!...more

It convinces you of it's reality, and you're sucked in to a vortex where magical swords and impossible creatures are everyday reality. The only thing I found annoying is how the book bounces from character to character. Just stick to Kaladin, please. Or at least 75% Kaladin. We don't care about anyone else except possibly Shallan. Maybe Dalinar and Adolin as well. But more Kaladin would be more good....more
