'Shuna's Journey' follows the story of Prince Shuna, who leaves his impoverished village to try and find some fabled golden seeds which can be used to produce abundant crops, thus saving his village from starvation.
The whole thing is illustrated in beautiful watercolours, and without the narrative could easily pass as concept art for Princess Mononoke or Nausica. Its absolutely gorgeous.
The story is fantastical but subtle. I really enjoyed this. I can't speak highly enough of the art, but the story is strong too....more

It’s an unflinching view into the life of African migrants trying to get to Europe. It’s not a comfortable read, but very powerful.
Essential reading, especially for western Europeans. ...more

That being said, getting a copy was a nightmare. Pre-ordered at my local bookstore but uh, Amazon got every single UK copy going, so it was out of stock everywhere. Ended up going for The Book Depository (owned by Amazon) after it was clear I might not get one at all. Niche printings and also fuck Amazon.
The book is gorgeous though. Hardback with embossed cover, really high quality.
The comic itself is really cute. Good humour, well drawn, adorable love story with silly vampire/werewolf jokes.

The book contains comics from the online archive, as well as new ones. They're slice-of-life comics, often of a self-depricating nature that's relatable as a fellow nerdy introvert.

There’s an additional narrative section (about 1/3 of the book) that tackles the issue of young artists fearing hate online in an increasingly hostile internet environment. It’s positive and encouraging and I liked it a lot.
As usual, it’s adorable and relatable and I’m always happy to support her work. ...more

This one differSarah Andersen's second book is much like the first; a collection of funny one-page comic strips about life as an awkward young woman.
This one differs slightly in that there is an narrative section, where comics are accompanied by an autobiographical piece about introversion and social awkwardness. I actually quite liked it, it was comforting to read and understand the artist as a person a bit more. But this section only lasted maybe a quarter or a third of the book, and the rest were stand-alone slice-of-life tidbits.
Definitely recommend. Very funny and a good artist to support. ...more

I love this so much. It's witty slice-of-life stuff thats relatable and funny. I handed it to my boyfriend after I finished and within minutes heard him chuckling to himself, occasionally stopping to say "This is you!!". It really is.
Very funny. Happy to support this talented artist. Recommended!
