Boy, I'm glad I did because WOW! WOW! This has familiar tropes then takes those tropes and stomps on them. This was a wild ride by the end and I need book two yesterday! Picture a woman knight, on an impossible quest against the dragon then forget all the other stories you know. It's also a hint blink and you'll miss it sapphic. Dragons, ghosts, and impossible quests with a badass woman lead character. What's not to love? 5 ⭐!...more

And this line on page ten:
"Did you know that Julie Delpy's a feminist? I wonder if that's why she's not skinnier. No way they'd cast her in this role if she were American. See how soft her arms are? Nobody here tolerates arm flab. Arm flab is a killer. It's like the SATs. You don't even exist if you're below 1400."
It's not funny, it treats drug misuse horribly, and it's incredibly insulting towards women and mental health. Highly recommend people avoid it....more

Also bonus points for the knight being Muslim, and vaguely set in the real world? Not for sure. It definitely had historical bits that I recognized but couldn't place. I need a reread for it once I buy the physical copy! 5 ⭐!...more
