I guess I didn't buy any of the Billy/Daisy chemistry which is the whole crux of the thing. And Camille - who I liked in the show! - comes off very trite and uninteresting in the book. The Karen/Graham subplot made me roll my eyes. Daisy Jones is very fun and very well portrayed - it's actually quite rare to find female force-of-natures/hot-messes in fiction, although I think the focus on her in context is distractingly artificial. I think a lot somehow gayer than I expected!! - sometimes when reading classics (a very large genre, I know), I am surprised by how readable they are. I think a lot of older books have a bad reputation for being really esoteric, but Picture of Dorian Gray sometimes reads contemporary. It's also very funny at parts....more
I read this alongside No One Is Talking About This and I had no idea what to think of it. I wasn't sure I even liked it, until I did a lot of reading I read this alongside No One Is Talking About This and I had no idea what to think of it. I wasn't sure I even liked it, until I did a lot of reading re: literary reviews and author interviews. Personally, I found this WIRED article to be the most insightful, although I'm not sure I entirely agree with it. Definitely glad I read both of them and personally this is a book I'm going to keep thinking about....more
