What I really didn’t enjoy was Elena’s Pov (Trials of Conviction was told by three different POV). Unfortunately that’s at least a third of the book during which I was exasperated (kudos to Ms White, though, she perfectly sounded as stupid as any 13 yo is when she thinks/acts immortal). As I said I didn’t enjoy reading about Elena, I didn’t like her before and definitely I did not like her here. Stupid doesn’t cover it. Elena’s story highlighted (for me) the book’s problems, one of which is that magic is not science and this book is more and more fantasy rather than Sci-Fi. It’s not the humans that considers the Tuann wizards, many plot points make sense only in light of magic, not science. It’s not a problem in itself, but then if you want to write “Fantasy” you better be prepared to create a sturdy foundation. And I do believe in “luck” but at this point there’s simply too much of it. (Above all if you consider that she may have suffered catastrophic losses in her past, but in these 5 books no one dies among her allies/friends.)
Maybe it’s a me problem, but so many super powers, appearing when needed, are “off”. And so is the uber villain that never dies and its god-like. Or the so convenient soul-less body…
As my rating states I liked the book (minus the exasperation that a 13 yo brings…) and I would recommend giving it a try, even with its faults. Just know what you’re going to read....more

Unfortunately so many things did not add up from that book that it’s still a bit jarring. She’s not trusting but she is. She’s 90 going on 20. And here again, less smack in your face but they are there. And the Tuann’s are difficult to empathise when dealing with “children”... or the threats honestly.
The final twist wasn’t solid in my mind. But lots of point weren’t including the code. Childish doesn’t cover it. Not well thought at all. But maybe it’s personal. Anyway I enjoyed it and read in one sitting.
To read or not to read, this is the question. After book 2 disappointment I’m a little leery, I admit. Will she be a grownup as in book 1 or will she revert to high school as in book 2?...more

I love this series. I love this heroine and it gives me a kick to see the reversal sexism (yes, we could have been sexist too). It shows its ugly teeth in a stark contrast. I love the grit, the Undercity, its culture. And what an ending....more
I loved this as much as I did Pathfinder's Way. The background idea (humans as the young race in space that isn't trusted) isn't new, but the plot and I loved this as much as I did Pathfinder's Way. The ending clearly points to a series and one I will be glad to continue.
To the grammar purists out there: there were a couple of mistakes that nowhere harmed my enjoyment....more

I will read book two of Peacekeepers for the only reason that I bought both books in Stockholm at their famous Science Fiction bokhandeln in the Old Town.
It took me a while to get into the story, mostly because it clearly isn't book one, but book six. I don't know if in the other books the world building was somewhat explained, but here everything was taken for granted. If this simply meant that, character wise, I wasn't invested in the story from the beginning (it took me quite a hefty number of pages), the lack of basic understanding of the world meant I got no idea, except for some details, how the different species looked like. Or if there's a governing body for the Confederation. Or... Etc etc.
Honestly I am happy I haven't payed the 12$ for the ebook....more

In book three when the MC kept doing the same trick I was almost ready to DNF it. It has the same plot all over, the never ending battles, betrayals and twist without any depth to both characters and plot to make anything believable.
In book one we are told that the heroine has a daughter and that she's fighting to go back to her. Not once in 3 books and a short story you did get a glimpse that's the truth. Oh once in a while she talks about her daughter, or her husband. But there's no anguish. At all. No sorrow. She never really fights to go back to her. I mean she gets derailed every time (for 7 or 8 books it seems). You know by book 3 she should be frantic. Her husband too is basically a prop. You don't feel her love, her pain. Or the shocking betrayal. She drools about an other man when she's not mourned him yet.. I am not even sure I buy into her morality or lack thereof.
Her wit is nice, but again it can't take the place of plot, characterization and world building. Even the big divide was, I don't know, fake. If you have ever read Medair, you'd really see the difference.
I spent a few hours on a summer Sunday. There's not much else I can say. Except I don't plan to read the rest of the series....more

The heroine was downgraded from tough cookie to weeping mass of nerves and I couldn't see the reason why. I get a strong mother first and then a NA heroine, it was a bit jarring. But then so was the love story, it came out of the blue. I couldn't see the reasons why she trusted him or his people, kidnappers, jailers, liars and mass murderers. Why she decided to help. Nor why she accepted the brand of property without a real reason. I sound as a broken tape, but yes there was a lot I couldn't phantom the reasons why.
I'm glad the sequel is out, otherwise I doubt I would have remembered to get it. And I'm sorry to say it as I really like Ms Enderle's work....more

This is a convoluted story with a wonderful heroine, great world and a dash of romance. It really didn't deserve such an ending. If you are writing sci fi, stick with it. Adding supernatural, unexplained events is a cheap shot, IMHO. ...more
