The first book of hers that didn't leave me in a snit. I can't give 3 stars, as I skipped half the pages. I'm really not interested in a documentary chocked full of meaningless details. They should give you the atmosphere, not replace the story....more

Great for the fans, but not really in itself if you haven't already read his books. Not all the stories have the same value, but I guess this is something to expect with anthologies. Some are really as good as the novels, many are simply ok.
I admit I was left speechless by his younger efforts. You can see glimpses of his future brightness/talent, and you think, damn, he was only 13......more

The Cade of... is not different, I was snickering most of the book.
I'm usually not a gal who goes for light, fluffy reads. But I have no problem in admitting that Ms Harper can make me detour to the light side, even without cookies......more

I'm a fan of Terry Pratchett, so humour is not a problem. At all. I love the way he writes and highlights our shortcomings. But what he writes about is never really something to laugh at. Here there's simply a forced fluffiness, a freak child of Kitty Kat and a Lord of the Underworld.
If you want a funny romance, go for books like Touched by an Alien. I can't say I loved it, but I read and found nice the first in the series. In it you won't find tragedy and personal dramas. Here you'll find them amid the laughing stock. They are not touched with lightness, but stuck in the middle. And you can't take them seriously nor root for the characters.
I haven't' read the first book, so nothing made much sense. You can overlook this, but I couldn't overlook the void. At 50% this book and I parted way. In a friendly manner. Like two strangers forced on a conversation with nothing in common to talk about. Except the weather. Yeah. ...more

And the story arch is plenty vivid with characters, different threads, battles, kin :)
It's so well written that I was choking a sob at a character's death, even if I damn well knew what was happening (or not). I moved from laughter to tears to sighs and back.

Definitely, this book isn't your usual paranormal love story. Kudos to Ms Aiken....more
