According to reviews, the sequel is more about racial identity (though still epistolary), but I wouldn't recommend this one except to a kid into chickens....more
Kirkus criticized the flat character arc of the Pakistani friend, and I could see that, but I still really enjoyed reading this book. The resolution is a little too pat, also, as it was a bit unbelievable that Mimi's grandmother would suddenly develop compassion for her servants to the point of wanting to pay for ongoing diabetes treatment.
I didn't finish this (though it was very interesting). Not being a D&D fan (or really a gn fan), I wasn't into this one. However, I can imagine that gn and/or D&D fans would love this book!
