Well, damn. I've never read an Elizabeth O'Roark book before last night, and if this one is any indication, I've been missing out! The Summer We Fell Well, damn. I've never read an Elizabeth O'Roark book before last night, and if this one is any indication, I've been missing out! The Summer We Fell is everything my little angst whore heart could have hoped for!
If you've followed me for a while now, you may have noticed that 2023 hasn't been the best reading year for me thus far. This book alone has been worth all of the disappointments! It's going to be on my favorite reads of the year list. No question! I've been searching for a book with this level of angst and emotional torment for a hot minute, and I finally found it with Luke and Juliet.
The Summer We Fell is full of tragedy, heartbreak, sacrifice, longing, lust, and never-ending, soulmate-level love. My heart will never forget it. Having said that, this book won't be for everyone. There is cheating involved in this story, though the hero and heroine don't cheat on each other. If that's not your shit, you may want to avoid this one.
I loved every second of this story, so if I went into depth on my feelings on every character I wanted to, this review would be a whole ass book. For that reason, I'm choosing to just shine a light on my favorite one, Luke. Luke is a hero that melted my heart over and over again. I loved him from the moment he appeared on the page. Everything he did and said, from the words he used to describe Juliet to the way he beat the shit out of anyone that hurt her, had my heart pitter pattering all over the place. Luke sees Juliet in a way that nobody else does, and it's obvious they're meant to be right from the start.
Though I love all of the major characters in this story, I didn't always agree with everything they did, said, and went along with, but at the end of the day, we're all human, and life isn't easy. It's full of hard times and tough decisions. Humans make mistakes, even when they're trying to do the right thing. Some of those mistakes can have consequences they may regret forever, but at the end of the day, everyone is responsible for their reactions to whatever life throws at them.
My heart broke for Juliet, Luke, Donna, and Danny. I cried for each one of them. None of them were perfect, but all of them loved each other in different ways. I wish each of them could've gotten the ending I wanted for them. Despite that, I love The Summer We Fell just as it is. It deserves every single one of the five stars I'm giving it. Elizabeth O'Roark has a new fan in me, and I can't wait to tackle her backlist for more of this magic.

Some people hate reading books dealing with cheating. I'm not one of them. I actually enjoy those type of stories, especially when the character I care about isn't the piece of shit cheater.
I love everything I've read from Stella Rhys, but I'll admit the overall star rating on this one had me a little nervous. I should have known I had nothing to worry about though. Cheating romance always gets shit on, and this author has never let me down!
In Too Deep is addictive, intriguing, and full of drama. I love Jake so much! If he isn't Lara's HEA, I will be devastated. Jackson has all the audacity, and I could not want him to jump off a cliff more.
The way we find out piece by piece about the cheating and the murder situation makes the plot more intriguing and the whole situation more difficult for Lara. It also kept me interested and emotionally invested. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds!
On top of the mystery factor, the writing style kept me engaged and captivated from beginning to end. I flew through book in no time. In Too Deep is novella length, and it was the perfect quick read for my Sunday night. I can't wait to dive into Too Far Gone today!

Quick Thoughts... 1. Ella is my new favorite character. I didn't expect to come out of this book feeling this way. 2. I still have a hate/love relationship with Sid. 3. Maverick is my favorite hero for sure, but I want to kick him in his fucking teeth right now. ...more

Becoming His Mistress is one of the most surprising reads of 2019 for me! I had no idea how much I would wind up enjoying the story when I decided to Becoming His Mistress is one of the most surprising reads of 2019 for me! I had no idea how much I would wind up enjoying the story when I decided to pick it up. Cheating is a hard limit for many romance readers, so this book won't be for everyone. However, if cheating in books isn't a no go for you, you should definitely check this one out! It's one of the best I've read involving this subject matter.
I adore the heroine in this story a. k. a. the other woman. How did the author get me to love a married man's mistress as much as I love Rose Sinclair (especially considering I'm married myself)? Talent! There is no other explanation. She is such an endearing character that I couldn't hate her if I tried. In fact, Rose is one of my favorite heroines I've read this year.
The author didn't paint Rose as a purposeful homewrecker or Ezra, the hero, as a bitter man that hated his wife. Some may dislike that choice, but I love it. I love when authors explore the idea that decent people can be capable of terrible things, or the fact that not everything is black and white. I could go on, but I don't want to be misinterpreted, so I'll stop there. Lol Hopefully, from what I've said thus far, you'll get an idea of what kind of book you're getting yourself into.
Saying I love this book does not mean I agree with all the choices the characters made or that I condone cheating. I'm not heartless, so of course, I felt conflicted knowing their relationship was hurting someone else regardless of how I felt about her. Nobody deserves that.
The story was done extremely well, but at the end of the day, cheating is still wrong any way you look at it. That's why, if you're like me, you might get upset with Ezra at times. I didn't want to beat him upside the head, because I think he is a horrible guy though. It had more to do with the way he handled things. Truth be told, there is no perfect way to navigate such a situation. Once you do something like sabotage your marriage by putting your dick where it doesn't belong, pain is sure to follow. For everyone.
Despite that, I wanted Ezra to be with Rose with my whole heart. They complimented each other in such a perfect way. Their connection was obvious from the beginning and couldn't be denied. Their chemistry was off the charts. I could go on. Don't judge me! It's the author's fault for making me feel this way. ...more

Webster is one of my favorite authors. The woman is a genius in my eyes. As a reviewer or a blogger there will be times when a book comes along by one of your favorite authors that you just don’t love. It sucks, but it is what it is. I have to be honest and say that this was one of those times for me.
This is mostly a case of this novella just not being for me than it is a 3 star read. I think my personal preferences got in the way of me truly loving this story. It was well written, well-paced, had great steamy scenes and a decent plot. The problem for me was the characters.
Aut Banks is a popular boy in his senior year of high school. One day, his favorite teacher is replaced by a timid, but beautiful woman, Maise Macmillian. When she has no luck getting the class under control on her first day, Aut steps in and gets everyone settled down and focused.
He has ulterior motives for helping her out. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he wanted to sleep with her and begins to flirt with her almost immediately. One day he gets brave and takes it a step further. Will she respond or tell him to take a seat?
This story was originally published in the Hot for Teacher Anthology : Nineteen Stories Filled with Love and Lust. I am including this information, because somehow I failed to realize that when I requested an ARC for this novella. I already own said anthology, and had already attempted to read this story before. I quit reading the first time, because I just wasn’t feeling it. Since I requested it, I decided to give it another go. This time I made it the whole way through, and while it was an okay read, my feelings remained pretty much the same.
As I said before, the characters in this story bothered me so much that it affected my overall enjoyment. I especially disliked Maise’s character. She is just one of the weakest female characters I have ever read about. Aut’s nickname for her is Turtle for Christ sake! By the way, how is that hot? She is being abused, so maybe I am just an awful person for feeling this way. At any rate, she just kind of goes along with whatever Aut wants to do like some “love” struck teenager. Honestly, the way she behaved had me rolling my eyes, and that is mostly because I didn’t care for him either.
Aut is a cocky kid that acts like he thinks he is a man. Let me tell you something, if an 18 year old kid came up to me acting like he did and saying the things he did, I would laugh in his baby face! Boy, sit down!! LOL Just NO! He also has sex with another girl during the course of the 99 pages, and he is a pretty big jerk to her. I like asshole heroes, but I know a lot of people don’t, so I decided to mention it. Regardless, he didn’t have enough redeeming qualities to make me like him otherwise.
If I could have dealt with the characters, then this would have been a great novella to read in between full length novels. The writing is superior to many short stories I have read, and the sex is hot. I love dirty talkers and cocky alphas which is what Aut is, albeit a very young one. If you like taboo reads, and you don’t have an aversion to the type of characters I described, then you will probably love this story! If all you are looking for is a little smut, then I think you will love it! If you love the older woman/younger man trope, you will probably love it! Bottom line, if this novella interested you, give it a try. You may have a different opinion. Practically every review I have read for Schooled by a Senior is 4 or 5 stars. I am the odd man out. Go pick up a copy and see what you think!
