This ends on a cliffhanger, you need to read the books in order and I'm assuming you will need to read the trilogy? I don't know how many books to get to the HEA.
Update- at the back of the book the author says- ' I hope you can all join me for book three, and the conclusion of Harlowe’s story, A Queen of Fire and Flame, later in the year. Happy Reading!'
This book starts exactly where the first one ended.
The plot is good but I am very frustrated that despite creating a whole world, history, some of the characters have unusual names, there is a map and a pronunciation guide yet there feels to me as though there is a lack of imagination regarding language. Even using terms that relate to our lives, 'ballpark figure' or something like that. These characters have huge cultural differences and part of their customs are secrets from outsiders yet they all use the same profanity and didn't appear to have any issues communicating, no misunderstandings regarding use of terms etc.
I appreciate the author appears to be new but for me it spoilt the story. That and not knowing how many books are in a series.
Warning from the author.
This story is intended for mature readers only and contains controlling behavior by the MMC towards the FMC, explicit sexual content, dubious consent, sexual assault, drugging, profanity, depictions of violence, and other topics that may be triggering for some readers. Reader discretion is advised.

You need to read series in order. The series continues the story of the 2 main characters from book 1. Each book is adding to their plan to defeat the main enemy from book 1. Introduction of new characters. We are told about the heroine's family roots, some of them.
For the safety gang. No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine. The Hero visits an Inn, he and the heroine are not together yet and they are travelling in opposite directions so she is not with him. He is offered a woman from the brothel, he says no. Later a previous ONS makes an offer of a repeat, he refuses, I think she may reappear at a later date, just my theory.
The Hero and heroine want to be together properly but circumstances seem to make a future difficult so they agree to part as friends....more

Please be aware in all these books the Hero messes up in varying degrees from saying something very disloyal to full out cheating, each story is different.
Here's what you'll get with my stories: A strong h. An H who messes up (never the h!) with either cheating (and I consider kissing OW cheating) or some other betrayal. An H who gets his a$$ handed to him for said mess up. An H doing the grovel to HEA! (Always, always, always have to have an HEA between the H and h, but the H has to really work for it.) And, in cases of nasty OW...karma will be stopping by to say hello.
What you'll never get: An h moving on to another man in a serious way. The h having revenge s3x (it's just not going to happen). The h and OW becoming friends (that is also never going to happen).
This has a fantasy edge to it. The Hero and heroine have a few nights together, but nothing is actually established or settled between them. He is pretty messed up by previous scams from women so when she says she is pregnant, he doesn't believe her. He has a good point, this is where the fantasy element comes in.
After they've been together, he has sex with another woman, he doesn't know but its the heroine's arch-nemesis. Once he is on board he is fully into the heroine and is amazing with the baby. He misses the whole pregnancy due to his own issues and to be fair he didn't think fathering a child was possible for him.

I thought this was really good, especially for a book 2 in a trilogy. At first I was a bit lost, we are introduced to a new set of characters, I don't want to explain too much as it would spoil the plot. There is quite a bit of violence, the Hero and heroine try to spare lives but there is some brutality though not details.
It picks up from book 1 and leaves it on a doozy of a cliffhanger ending....more

I'd recommend reading the first 3 books of the study series before reading this book as events in that trilogy introduce Opal and many of the issues she has in this book. It feels a bit like wash, rinse, repeat through most of this series, she gets knocked on the head, kidnapped then escapes. Definitely not as good as the study series. Previous characters make an appearance. There is a bit of to and froing between men, her feelings are complicated by deception but this might be an issue for you if you are sensitive to this. No intimate details, things are a bit vague. Cliffhanger, HEA end of trilogy. ...more
