It is not your typical autobiography, it jumps around and tells Bernie’s story, Bernie’s way.
First of all, this is not a book about Elton John. If you want that, read Me. Bernie is most famous for being Elton’s songwriting partner but there is so much more to him. In saying that, he talks about Elton, his best friend, and their connection and relationship.
But Scattershot is a mixture of stories about Bernie Taupin. About his rock and roll lifestyle. His many famous friends, how he wasn’t so much in the limelight so he could get away with more. He drank, he took drugs, he messed up relationships. His love of horses and his family, he travelled and saw so many things in the world. The songs he wrote with and for other people. I had no idea he wrote We Bukit This City that was a hit for Starship.
He is quite critical of many things, no love lost with the Royal family. He did make me laugh at times.
This is a book for music lovers. It was so interesting and a book that you just want to keep reading .

A fascinating behind the scenes of Adrian Edmonson’s life. From his school days through to the Comedy Store, Ade gives us a vivid account of life interspersed with his musical memories.
He hits the public psyche when The Comic Strop Presents starts on Channel 4 in the UK and then very shortly after The Young One’s is on BBC2. It is that show that my mother hated, that had such an affect on many growing up in the 1980’s. Ade and Rik Mayall became a comedy duo, writing and staring in Bottom - another favourite of mine, and not my mother, but this book is far more than those 2 shows. It is a glimpse beyond the stardom of a comedy legend.
Adrian writes well, it is funny, poignant and captures the essence of the Berserker. He has conversations with the reader, almost like he is having a chat down the pub with a pint.

Never really a big fan of his, that has certainly changed now. The audiobook was narrated by Tom, and it was wonderful. From his early days as a young actor excited at possibly meeting Mr. Bean, to the days after Harry Potter. I devoured it all.
I especially appreciated the Harry Potter stories. How being Darco Malfoy, the bad guy, changed his life in so many ways. His friendships on the set, working with some of the great English actors. It was a wonderful behind the scenes on Harry Potter and I loved it.

Who doesn't love the Spice Girls! The girl group that took over the world, the girl group that they said would not work. This book takes you behind the scenes, and into the life of Sporty Spice.
Mel C is so frank and open about this time in her life. It was not all glitz and glamour; things were heard for these girls. It made me sad to hear what they went through, the way they were treated and made to feel. They worked so hard for everything that happened for them.
There were so many great stories, how she met and ended up working with Bryan Adams, their first trip to the Brits, the reunion tours and so many more. It is a must read for any Spice Girls fan.

He played the bad guy so well and will always be my favourite Sherriff of Nottingham. I was so happy to receive this copy of his diaries from the lovely team at Allen and Unwin.
This is not a book that I can review, These are the diaries of a man. A famous man with many famous friends. He travelled alot, and met some amazing people. He has some very strong opinions on certain subjects. He hated being constantly asked about Harry Potter. He had a sense of humour and was much loved in the acting community. It was an honour to be able to learn more about this man. Such a sad loss, just 6 months from diagnosis of pancreatic cancer....more

In fact, his Alex Cross books are some of the first grown up books that I remember reading. Needless to say, I am a big fan and I urge every crime book lover to read his books. When I heard that this book was coming out I just had to read it. It is always fascinating to learn more about the people that you admire, and James has had a very interesting life.
This is a book of stories, in not particular order really. He jumps around his life, telling stories of what he has done, people he has met and how he became the world best selling writer. I enjoyed reading about his time as an advertising executive, his school days, his experience at Woodstock and his lack of confidence at becoming a fiction writer. He talks about his friendship with former President, Bill Clinton and their writing collaboration. It was written in his usual conversational style, with short chapters which makes it a very fast read - just like his fiction novels.
I look forward to my physical copy arriving so that I can see the photos to go along with the stories.
This is a must read for fans of the great man's books. Absolutely recommend. All the stars

It is one of my go to shows when ai need a laugh and to relax. I have seen them all over and over again but that doesn’t stop me from watching it. Now, don’t go into this book expecting a heap of Friends gossip or behind the scenes stories, because you will be disappointed. This is not a Friends tell all.. it is about Matthew Perry’s life.
Matthew Perry has had a really hard life. He is an addict, of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. He is very up front about this. I am surprised that he is still alive, and so is he. The number of times he has been to rehab is incredible. He has had surgeries that he never should have survived. It is a raw and open story of his life, from being abandoned by his father at a young age, to being a tennis player in Canada, and moving to the US to live with his father.
There were some stories about Friends, about how badly he wanted the role of Chandler, his friendships with the other cast members, and how it changed his life. But there is so much more to his story. I loved hearing about his friendship with River Phoenix, his tennis career, and life before he became a household name.
Yes there are some things he probably shouldn’t have included and that shocked me. Overall though, he tells us about his life, his struggle with addiction, his want for attention and love. Being famous isn’t what is it is cracked up to be.
Thanks to Hachette Australia for sending me a copy of this book to read. If you are a fan of his it is definitely worth a read. ...more

When I heard that Hayley Mills had a memoir coming out I might have been a little bit excited. Ever since I was a kid, she has been one of my favourite actresses, growing up watching Pollyanna and The Parent Trap repeatedly every school holidays.
I ordered the paperback book and then discovered that she reads the audiobook so I had to have that as well. Her voice is so English and proper, it was a delight to listen to her talk about her life. As the daughter of John Mills, acting was in her blood. Walt Disney saw promise at a young age and she became a star. He love of Walt shines through, and you can see what an big influence he was on her life.
Her life wasn't always easy, in fact she has suffered many heartbreaks and losses. It was an eye opening story about a child star, in the limelight and the difficult choices that she often had to make.
I loved hearing about the Disney days, but also about her teenage life, where she hung out with The Beatles at the height of their fame. Her family is a big part of her life, a tough relationship with her mother and competing with her father and sister for movie roles.
A few years ago - pre covid, I was so lucky to be able to see Hayley and her sister Juliette, perform in a play in Sydney called Legends. It was so wonderful to see her on the stage and I was thrilled to meet her after the show. I may have fan girled like crazy but I was a little excited.
Well, Dave Grohl is certainly a great storyteller.

I am a pop music lover but who doesn't love Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. I had to listen to this on audio, read by Dave himself. My husband is a massive fan and I bought him he hardback for Christmas. We saw the band play in Sydney a few years ago, pre covid, and they were amazing. Such a high energy and loud concert that I will never forget.
I am writing this review the day after the death of drummer, Taylor Hawkins. I am still in shock that he is gone, after finishing this book on Friday. Taylor seemed to be a wonderful and full of life character and my heart goes out to his family and the rest of the band. I cannot imagine what they are going through right now, especially Dave, now losing 2 bandmates.
In Storyteller, Dave tells us some incredible stories of his life. And he is incredibly humble. He has worked hard and sacrificed alot to be where he is today, and he deserves the adulation. This book made me laugh, he has a way with words and some of the situations that he has been in are just hilarious. It almost made me cry, the losses that has suffered just broke me.
Some of my favourite stories - performing with Rick Astley, losing his wallet, the daddy-daughter dance, visiting the White House and so many more.
Any music lover will enjoy this book, I love to hear the behind the scenes stories. Dave you are a legend. ...more

One of my all time favourite movies is St Elmo’s Fire.. and amazing cast and a story that ai can watch over and over again. It was one of Andrew McCarthys first movies and I loved hearing stories about the set. Who did he get in with and who didn’t like him?
Brat is a a great walk down memory lane. I listen to this on audiobook in one day and I had to get the physical book as well for the pictures. Andrew narrates it himself and I love it when celebrities read their own books. He wanted to be an actor more than anything but he didn’t want the fame. He was definitely a reluctant star. He has had his ups and downs and talks quite openly about it all.
This is a must read for all 80s fans. What is your favourite Andrew McCarthy movie? I now want to watch a mannequin, Weekend at Bernie’s and Pretty in Pink again...more
