It's got the beauty and sad humor of 100 Years of Solitude meets the gorgeous agony and devastation of Annihilation with a generous nod to California by Edan Lepucki. Shepherd's writing is lovely. I can't wait to read what she does next. And frankly, I can't stop looking at my shadow....more

Of course, I can't relate to motherhood, but I can still relate to a lot of Rebecca and her world - sometimes in ways I don't necessarily want to admit, alas here we are. Neil deGrasse Tyson breaks down the wildly complex universe we inhabit into understandable (for the most part) pieces all while maintaining his signature geeky charm.
I wasn't expecting the last chapter to make me cry, but it did, because the universe - all of it - is a rich tapestry....more

The book is plenty personal as-is, but having Haddish tell you the unbelievable stories that make up her life herself adds another dimension to this book. (ALSO THERE IS A SONG AT THE END.) The structure is a little rough, but what makes this book shine is how honestly Haddish stares down the ugliest, most horrible parts of her life. There is course humor in this as well, but overall, readers will walk away from this impressed by the triumph of her spirit. ...more
