This book had a really good introduction. I loved the set up and I’m personally a big fan of marriage of convenience with a touch of grumpy sunshine. This book had a really good introduction. I loved the set up and I’m personally a big fan of marriage of convenience with a touch of grumpy sunshine.
I won’t lie though, every time I pick up a new Christina Lauren I end up a little (sometimes a lot) disappointed. I miss the OG Christina Lauren. The wild, funny, super smutty stuff they put out in their early days. However as far as their newer stuff goes this is one of the better ones.
Anna did kind of annoy me at first, but with time really grew on me. Liam I liked throughout. The plot is cute, fun, but rather predictable. Think that is its biggest flaw. We get a great set up, characters you like, but then everything happens exactly as you think it will. Even with this being one of their better recent releases I still wanted more. ...more

Wow Ana you actually took the words out my mouth. That’s exact“They were being so cheesy she would have cringed if she would have read it in a book…”
Wow Ana you actually took the words out my mouth. That’s exactly how I felt throughout If We Ever Meet Again.
I think I’ve finally come to the conclusion that Ana Huang just isn’t the author for me. I would love to talk about the plot, but I couldn’t find it. The spice…. Really wasn’t hitting. And characters… they were my real issue.
Farrah was giving 19 year old girl. So can’t really fault that. By the ending though I was just so over her and how naive she is.
However, Blake Ryan… he’s really my biggest issue. Blake Ryan is the kind of guy you’d lose your virginity to… because you’d look back years later and realize all the dumb stuff they said and did and wonder how you never saw it.
He was also very much giving this the entire book.

The ONLY redeeming quality I found in this was the ending. The last few paragraphs do make you a little curious what will happen in book two, but not enough to make me want to pick it up. I think you won’t have to stretch your imagination to come up with how their story will end. 1.5...more
Don’t get me wrong this book is good, but it also kind of felt more like a spinoff than a continuation.

I think this is because in the first book I was so invested and in love with Elspeth and Ravyn. I wanted to continue their story and see their relationship build, but I felt with the shift in storylines and the author having it more focus on “side” characters from book one we lost some of the story’s charm.
Felt as if all the things that pulled me in and had me so invested in One Dark Window kind of went out of one. We don’t get enough time with Elspeth and Ravyn. Yes, these other characters are interesting, well written, and help push the story to its end, but it was really the story I signed up for. We had this interesting form of magic and a well built budding romance that felt pushed aside and at some points almost forgotten.
Another thing is I felt the first book was headed in a really dark direction and this one seemed lighter. I wanted it to go dark!!!
As I said this book is good, but I think it’s dull compared to book one....more
First and foremost, the leads. Rue has the personality of a wet rag. Her “humor” falls flat, and she honestlyI have a lot of issues with Not in Love.
First and foremost, the leads. Rue has the personality of a wet rag. Her “humor” falls flat, and she honestly doesn’t really have anything going on to make her interesting. Cool job? Yes, but we don’t even really get into it. She claims to have all this massive baggage, but again, nothing that insane. Yes, a lot of her story is sad, but I think it’s so poorly delivered that I didn’t care. I didn’t feel for her and I definitely couldn’t connect either. Eli is a bit better, but again rather dull. I often found myself wondering why he liked Rue so much, besides her looks, because he speaks of those often. I wasn’t sure why he did. She wasn’t fun, funny, charming, or has this amazing personality that pulls you in. I also didn’t really like the set up to how they met. Felt a bit off.
Now to the plot. I think the whole Kline vs Harkness thing is so poorly written. It builds (barely) and when it comes full circle it is a massive letdown. I wanted more of a… idk fight?! It was just so anticlimactic. It’s LITERALLY what the whole story is built around and yet has no real foundation. I find it hard to care about this book's plot or characters because I don’t feel like Ali cared about them either.
There are a lot of other little things I could spend literal days going on about, but I end it with this. The spice. Yes, some of it is pretty good, BUT I can’t even believe I’m about to say this…….. ……. ……. BUT GOD at some points it went on too long! WITH NOTHING REALLY HAPPENING. There’s a part of the book where they spend 20% of it at one spot, just hooking up, and I’ve never been so bored. Was begging for it to just end.
I think Not in Love is a great title for this book… because that’s exactly how I felt about it once I was done.

I thought maybe it was a joke, but nope. So that might have played a part in my rating (a very small part), because this didn’t work for me.
I want to be a thriller girlie so bad, but it’s just not working. I find myself rolling my eyes and solving the mystery so fast.
Are the days gone of truly insane twist?! I’m starting to think so.
The ending of this book was so unnecessary and eye rolly, and the whole middle had me laughing at hour ridiculous it was. It was like watching a scene from Bodies Bodies Bodies except this isn’t satire.
This book is so predictable, but I think it's still enjoyable enough that you'll want to keep reading anyways. This book is so predictable, but I think it's still enjoyable enough that you'll want to keep reading anyways. ...more
