I love the way that the author approaches this conversation as truly the experience all fans go through when they learn about the terrible things a person did and how to approach or deal with the media/art that they love(d).

But seriously, I really enjoyed this book. I got completely engrossed in the story. And I love the way that Ann Patchett is able to write these stories with characters who feel so real and full but there is still some level of borderline melodrama that keeps you hooked.

Honestly really was affected by this one. You're following an unnamed narrator who lost her own parents, has a complicated relationship with her sister, is struggling to have children both with miscarriages but also mentally as she see the violence happening to Black men in the US. It's a book that I feel like perfectly expresses the anxiety of modern adult life, or maybe it just wrote a lot of my own anxieties. Either way, I loved it.
If you enjoy Ann Patchett, I think this will scratch a similar itch.

It's a really beautiful, drama-filled story about love and family and what you think you want and think you deserve and what you actually want and deserve in life. Go into this knowing little about the story. This book is WILD. This is what I want in my thrillers. It is dark but not violent so a wimp like me can deal (I couldn't finish Razorblade Tears because it was too violent for me). There are discussions in here of children being hurt, so a heads up on that. But I could not put this book down and was zooming through it to figure out what was going to happen.

It is really a story of a young man going through a lot and trying to put his life back together but not having the means to do it himself. If you read the synopsis of this and are like "I don't care about MMA fighting", don't let that deter you from picking up this book. It is SO good and so under the radar. It deserves more eyeballs (or ear holes).

If you want something like House in the Cerulean Sea but slightly more on the literary side and less saccharine, this is the book to pick up.

I'm so going to work through all of this authors books because this book picked the perfect balance of rom com tropes and creating characters and relationships that I cared about. There was literally a plot point that had me going "WAIT WHAT" which really shows how invested I got in this book.

I didn't think this was going to be a book for me but it really took me by surprise. It's a coming of age story that has so much heart and looks so honestly at the realities of poverty and struggling in the United States. But it is also really funny and has an optimistic view of the world in a way that was so heartening.

The last 1/3 of the book is so different from the rest of the book that it is a bit jarring. But overall, I enjoyed it.

I listened to it on audiobook and I didn't want to stop listening. I found the story Eleanor was telling about her life to be so compelling and I needed to know how it was going to go end. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. The only thing that didn't appeal to me personally was the tangents into Benny and Byron's POVs. I got why it happened, I just always wanted to get back to Eleanor telling about her life.
