Y ME GUSTÓ MUCHO.

"I have loved you across lifetimes. Why would I stop now?"
I really enjoy everything Scarlett St. Clair writes, and this book wasn't an exception. I really enjoyed the political and magical development of the story, and how we get to learn more about the characters. It really surprised me at some points, and I wonder how is the author going to manage all the plots that have opened in this book. I cannot wait for the conclusion of this trilogy
That being said, I did feel some scenes were too fast-paced for a fantasy book, and didn't enjoy the sex scenes as I did with those in the first book. I had higher expectations for Adrian's POV! I hope his story can have a good ending, because I really enjoy reading him.
And I really like Isolde, I cannot stop enjoying her!...more

Belladonna is the story of a girl who has always been chased by death, starting from the death of her parents when she was just a baby, to the death of her aunt, after being passed from home to home where the person responsible of her would always die. When she is left alone in the world, a relative send her a letter, inviting her to live with him and his family, in a big, nice house, and be part of the high society. She gladly accepts, but what she'll find once she's there is a mystery she'll have to solve, so she can save the life of those who she'll get to love as family.
Honestly, I was really intrigued by the topics this book offered from the beginning. Some mysterious deaths, a dark entity, and ghosts? I really liked that. It gave me Rebecca vibes, and I loved Rebecca so, I was really into the plot. Adalyn Grace knows how to create an intriguing aura, capturing you and wanting you to participate with the main character during the investigation. I was scared and nervous whenever something was about to happen, I was suspicious from everybody, and the last 100 pages or so I was so intrigued I really didn't want to stop. I was curious about that ending, so I'm very invested on the second book.
Signa is an interesting character, with a lot of growth during the book. She starts understanding life better with the passing of time, and she gets to understand what she finally want from it. Signa also has some mysterious powers, which made her so strong and bold. There's one scene in particular that made me laugh out loud because of how she was facing some old, angry men. She's an interesting main character, someone that will make you want to keep reading until you both find out the truth. And the other characters, I really go to empathize with them, especially with Blythe who I found to be my favorite and hated watching her suffer.
The only thing that bothered me a little was the romance. I found it to be a little creepy that the romantic interest was someone who met Signa when she was a baby? I mean, that kinda gave me Renesmee-Jacob vibes and I'm not a big fan of that, at all. So yeah, not a big fan of the romance at all, but they had some good tension so it might be bearable for someone else. I can do without the romance I guess....more

I wanna start this review by stating something very important aboThanks to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for giving me early access to this audiobook!
I wanna start this review by stating something very important about this book: it is not for everyone. Don't take this negatively toward the book at all, please, because it isn't a bad book in any way! But there are thousands of books in this world, some that are easy to love and some that are made to be hated. This one falls into a category very in the middle of both things. I don't think you can get to hate it, because even if you aren't the biggest fan of the story, there will be something here that will catch your attention and make you feel something, even if it's only one sentence o very specific moment. You might not fall in love with every line and every situation, or maybe you will! I had to put this at the beginning of this review, because you really don't know where this book will lead you unless you read it.
That being said, for me, this book was a ride. The writing style is very Olivie-like, it is pretentious in a good way, engaging, and for me it worked perfectly in the moment I was reading it, because even being sick, I didn't want to stop reading at all! The story just flows, it feels like it keeps going and going and when you realize, you have read a lot. Also, the structure of the story is very unique. We have some random interventions now and then of some random characters that somehow complement the story, and we also have a lot of thoughts spilled from the main characters too like, full pages of what they are thinking that helps you a lot to understand them, even if you think they are going too fast sometimes. But I loved it, the writing and the building of the story in general is the strongest component of this book. Except, maybe, for the ending, in which I believe everything went bad, wrong and worse too fast just to be solved too easily. I didn't feel completely convinced with how everything happened so fast in the end, and I was hoping the author would develop some extra material and points there too.
The story wasn't for me. I didn't connect that much with the characters, thought I loved some of their reflexions and felt really deep some of the things that happened to them. I felt there were some moments when I was really losing my patience, and some things just were too much for my poor brain. But I still can't say I enjoyed it. Yes, Regan and Aldo are not easy characters, they aren't supposed to be at all! I understood that, I appreciated it as a part of a story and I made my peace with it, but I still didn't love it completely. I guess one can say this is a unique relationship between two very unique people going through a lot.
Give this book a chance by all means! I know some people will love it and have a way better connection with the story than what I did! ...more

“I'd like to add some beauty to life," said Anne dreamily. "I don't exactly want to make people KNOW more... though I know that IS the noblest ambition... but I'd love to make them have a pleasanter time because of me... to have some little joy or happy thought that would never have existed if I hadn't been born.”
...more

Stone Bli“And now he is closing in on the Gorgons, ready to kill a creature that has done him no harm just to acquire a trophy for a man he despises."
”Mayhaps the Targaryens were not so close to gods as they had believed. Mayhaps, in the end, they too were only men.”
Leer este libro ha sido todo un r”Mayhaps the Targaryens were not so close to gods as they had believed. Mayhaps, in the end, they too were only men.”
La conquista y el ascenso de Aegon I "But we will come again, Princess, and the next time we shall come with fire and blood."
Los hijos de Aegon I "You are fearless when facing a girl on a horse, I see. The next time I come, I will be on a dragon. Throw dirt on me then, I pray you."
Jaehaerys I y Alysanne "I would make a splendid maester. But I hope to make an even better king."
La danza (y muerte) de los dragones "What are vows to oathbreakers? Their vows did not trouble them when they took my throne."
La regencia de Aegon III "He had not been able to save his brother, his mother, or his little queen from grisly deaths. How could he presume to save a kingdom?"

I'm a huge fan of Alison. I've read and loved The Charm Offensive, so when I found out she was writing a SAPPHIC CHRISTMAS ROMANCE, I SCREAMED. And y'all, I was not disappointed.
In this book, we have our main character Ellie, who last christmas thought her life was in the right path and that she might have just found love in a wonderful woman. Now, she's working in a place she hates, with a terrible relationship with her mother, her heart broken and doesn't know what to do to start again. Here appears an opportunity: to fake a marriage with a millionaire boy who just want to receive his inheritance. Of course she accepts because, at this point, what else does she have to lose? Of course she doesn't know what is waiting for her on the other side of this choice, or actually, who is waiting for her.
I found this book to be both hilarious and stressful (in a good way). There were moments that made me laugh A LOT and moments that made me really frustrated! I loved Ellie and all the other characters, and I found myself deeply worried about anything that happened in their lives. I love how connected I felt to all the characters, and that's something Alison accomplish in such a natural way. There are some characters we know more than others, but at the end of the story you really connect with most of them. I wish we could have had some more insights from Jack's POV too.
This book approaches mental health topics (Ellie suffers from anxiety) and dysfunctional families, both being very serious topics, with a lot of respect and insights about the situations that really made me love this book even more. That's something the author did in her previous book too, and I admire how she combines the romance with the fact that the characters might not be in the best moments of their lives, and never uses the romance as a "solution" but as one part of many.
The writing style is beautiful, being both entertaining and fast, and serious when it wants it to be. I couldn't put the book down at some point of the story! I totally recommend this book, and reading during the Christmas season MUST BE AMAZING. Totally recommend it!...more

Este libro me agarró"He doesn't know this yet, but he senses it deep down in his core. So much will happen, he thinks, that I would want to tell you."

Our Missing Hearts is the story of Bird, this 12-years-old whose mother has abandoned him in strange circumstances. He doesn't know the whole truth about her disappearance, until one day, in which he receives a strange letter who has to come from her mother, because in real life nobody calls him Bird anymore. So he goes following some small clues with a lot of hope and fear and expectation of things getting better. Set in a near-dystopian world, where things are very similar to our 2022 real life, we get a book about losing and remembering, about love and family, and finding the way to change the world with what we have in our hands.
This is my first book by Celeste Ng, and I have to say that I found the writing to be outstanding. I adore this type of writing, where you can actually say the difference between the two narrators we find in the story, but also where you can get to know their hearts and their minds so well. It hooked me from the very beginning because of how fast-paced and well developed this book is. You always want to know more, you get nervous for the things about to happen, and you can easily keep reading and not think twice about how much you are reading because you just forget. That shows how easily this book holds you and pulls you into the story.
Bird as a character is impressive. He's a child, yes, but he has already been through a lot, and I felt a hollow in my heart, to see a child having to face all the cruelty this world had, it was a lot. It was scary. The rest of the characters get more development while we go deeper into the story, and I swear each of them got a piece of my heart.
This is a book with a message, with a lot of criticism about racism and the way the world treats a group of people just because it's told to do so. There are some clear real-life references in this story that can be triggering, so please check the trigger warning before reading it! It also has a developing of the idea of parenthood in many ways, through the good and bad, and that's a great perspective to read. You know these words were made with the heart, and it makes the story so beautiful.
The ending was missing something for me, but that didn't make this book any less impactful than it was. I loved it and deeply recommend it....more

Last of the Talons is the story of Shin Lina, who finds herself in the middle of a deal with this inmortal emperor to save her and her sister's lives: she has fourteen days to kill him, or she will die.
All her journey is quite interesting, actually, and I was really into the idea of how the deal was set and what it involves. Shin Lina is a character who has had a very hard life, and we can see that in those small glimpses to the past that we have in some chapters. I found them to be the most beautiful, because I really liked getting to know her more. After all those past events, Lina has a lot of emotional damage, that expresses itself in anxiety, intrusive thoughts and addictions (all of these part of the PTSD she had developed). I really liked her journey, both physically and emotionally, and loved how the author decided to address these topics during the story. The writing style is well made for a fantasy story.
However, I do think that the book was quite repetitive. I mean, I understand that's somehow the point of the story: she tries to kill him, she fails, and he "punish" her. But the punishments are taking walks to a mountain, or going to the sea... I see that the author was trying to start the romance, but I was not fond of that couple. I couldn't feel the chemistry, and it bothered me that Lina got so distracted sometimes when her goal was another thing at that moment. And this leads to the book always going back to the same thing, and we get the real action only at 70-80% into the story. Also, the ending was quite convenient, and I wasn't also a fan of that.
This book has some interesting representation of Korean Mythology, and I found that to be the best part of the book. Also, if you're a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope, this book might be what you're looking for!...more

No, no puedo recomendárselo a nadie.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club.

*sighs* well, my friends, this book really disappointed me
I can't begin to explain how I feel after this book, specially because I feel that I forced myself to finish it. We have our main character, Koral, who is very desperate at the moment. She's posed as a very strong and smart character, yet she trust EVERYBODY. Any person who smiles back at her? She trusts. She trusts a person who has already disappointed her, she trusts a person who nobody is supposed to trust.
She is participating on this race where people like her are not supposed to participate, right? Well, you expect others to make some noise and all. But NO! The highest authority accepts her really fast. In that moment, I knew something was gonna go wrong. But here, Koral trusts everything again, because of course she's our main character and everything should be perfect for her to go on. And this is another thing that bothered me a LOT. Koral is a hunter, she has never trained for this race in her life, but suddenly she's AMAZING at everything? please, at least give us something believable.
And here we get into the writing, which was definitely not for me. I can't begin to explain how messy and all over the place it felt. One minute we are reading someone's introduction, and suddenly Koral (because it's a first POV book) goes on and on about other stuff. And this happens a lot, not only with characters' descriptions but with some critical moments. She's supposed to be stressed or sad but here we are seeing her talk about the walls or the color of something. You might think, so was this book too descriptive? No, it wasn't. It descibed the things that weren't important at all, and never really gives you a calm explanation about what is going on. I could never picture the place where things happen, I couldn't even imagine the faces of the main characters. This book might have given some descriptions, but as I said, they're really everywhere and anywhere at the same time.
And it was so repetitive, I swear. Here is a line straight from the book:
Crane hands me a set of clothes, and some warm water to drink. When was the last time I drank water? I sit quietly, sipping water. It tastes like nothing. Empty air.
After that, I felt thirsty.
And don't get me started on the characters. I couldn't stand Koral, but what bothered me the most was the romance, because it really didn't show any chemistry AT ALL. Was I suppose to believe these two had a tragic past and now were back to falling in love? The only interesting character was the best friend and sometimes the brother, and also some of the other charioters. There was one girl who was in the competition too who had some good reasons to hate Koral, and honestly? I was rooting for her.
The ending was a disaster. I hate open ending but this really was worse than that, because it seems as if she just ran out of ideas and couldn't complete the story. I'm so sad, I really wanted to love this one. I'll give it some extra points for at least writing some interesting competitions, that is what kept me reading.

Wow, ok, Gleanings, one of my most expected books of the year. I was so happy to get into it, because honestly, I will never be ready to let go the world of the Arc of Scythe. In this book, we have some very interesting stories about this world, and about some things that happened before, during and after the trilogy.
The "origin stories" we get in this book are AMAZING. We get to find out how some loved and some hated Scythes became what they were during the trilogy. I was really invested in these stories, and they became my favorite from this book.
We also get some additional stories of things that happened before or during the trilogy but where our main characters didn't have anything to do with Rowan or Citra (or they might have been related, but you know, Rowan and Citra weren't really available all the time to know what was happening everywhere). These stories are really good too. I loved getting to find out more about how some other cultures worked in this world, and how Scythes from other countries lived and worked in their own societies. I also found these stories, co-written with some other author, were really in harmony with Neal's writing style and never leave the essence of the Arc of Scythe world.
And finally, we have the post-The Toll stories. These weren't many, and I found these to be the less impressive. I expected more post-The Toll stories honestly, and the ones we got are interesting, yes, but I wish the author had really showed some of our favorite characters to see how their life went after the end of the trilogy. I get now that he really wanted The Toll to end there.
Honestly, if you're a fan of this world, you'll really like this book. It might not have what you're expecting, but it has something amazing in it anyway.
This is my ranking of the stories in this book: 1.Formidable 2.A Martian Minute 3.The Persistence of Memory 4.The Mortal Canvas 5.Anastasia’s Shadow 6.Cirri 7.A Dark Curtain Rises 8.A death of many colors 9.Unsavory Row 10.Perchance to Glean 11.Meet Cute and Die 12.Never work with animals...more
