The first 75% was good - Salander was kicking ass and being inscrutable, the mystery was interesting. The big reveal just seemed totally implausible though. This book wasn’t bad (apart from the ending) but it doesn’t have the clever complexity of the original trilogy. ...more

The genre wasn't really my thing - I prefer character-driven books to suspense novels - so I'm only giving this three stars. The book was clever and had lots of twists but I simply didn't like the characters as much as in Riordan's other books. However, if you like Harlan Coben-style novels with plenty of twists then I reckon this book is worth checking out....more

Coben definitely likes lots of twists in his books and this seems to define his style, which loses some of its freshness when you read two books in a row. My GR friend James has written a far better review on this book (which I don't know how to link to on an iPad sorry) where he notes that Coben takes the twists one step too far for some readers' liking. I think I might be one of these readers. I have a coworker with all of his books and will borrow more, but perhaps more sparingly in future....more

This may not be Jilly Cooper at her finest, but it was still great to catch up with the horsey crowd again. Her books have become progressively more far-fetched over the years but she can still create engaging characters and amusing social commentary. I am sad to hear that her next book will probably be her last. ...more

I lent him my books (he'd borrowed the first from the library) and he kindly reciprocated by loaning me this book. Like my 8 year old friend, I loved this book and can't wait to see the movie. Bravo to JK Rowling for creating another great story, and for writing the kind of books that make an 8 year old want to persevere despite reading difficulties....more

Not quite chick lit, although the themes and perspectives are both female. Moriarty creates likeable and 'real' characters and does an excellent job dropping bread crumbs for the reader before pulling the whole story together at the end. I'm not a girlfriend, wife or mother but the story still resonated with me (which definitely doesn't always happen with domestic-themed books). I look forward to reading more from this author....more
