As always Jodi Taylor delivers both comedy and action in this fun, heart-touching, and adventurous story.
We get a great look at the real Lieutenant Grint. He might be a giant, intimidating brute, but he's a marshmallow inside. His quest to help Simon at risk of his career is touching. I love his relationship with Jane. My favorite quote: ‘Grint looked across at her and held her gaze for a long moment. Battered, bruised and in some considerable pain, he raised one amused eyebrow. Jane fell in love with him on the spot.’ So did we, Jane. So did we.
Five stars, of course, for another ride inside the St. Mary's/Time Police universe....more

When damaging information is made known, Team Weird fractures, and two members are estranged, leaving one in the middle. A new member of the Time Police will make you smile, and as always Max makes an appearance. These books are not standalones, but you will not regret reading the first three. They are delightful.
Jodi Taylor once again gives us a time travel story filled with adventure and romance, but balanced with heartbreak, loss, and reality. The characters from The Time Police books are becoming as beloved as those from the Chronicles of St. Mary's, Jodi's first series, and favorite characters from St. Mary's do make an appearance. There is a definite parent-child theme in this book as Max and Matthew, Luke and his father, and others share amazing moments together. The revealing of secrets doesn't seem to stop, much to the delight of Taylor's readers.
I listened to the audiobook, and Zara Ramm, as always, does a masterful job with all the characters. She portrays both humorous and tragic moments with skill, leaving us laughing and crying throughout the book. She is my favorite narrator across the board.
Fans of Science Fiction and Historical fiction will love this new installment in the Time Police series.
Proteus is born with a genetic mutation, one that makes him an outcast in 25th Century Society and will eventually kill him. That is, until scientistsProteus is born with a genetic mutation, one that makes him an outcast in 25th Century Society and will eventually kill him. That is, until scientists discover that people with this mutation can successfully travel in time. Proteus heads back to Cambridge University, 1921, in order to change the past and stop the devastation that has destroyed his world and forced everyone underground. He finds himself at Oxford, trying to delay the discovery of nuclear fission.
Whenever I start to review a time travel novel, I usually warn everyone that I am extra hard on time travel fiction, as it is my favorite genre. No need for warnings this time, as I loved this one! Time Travel novels must have a method of travel, and this one uses 25th Century wormhole technology. And of course there must be rules of time travel set by the author. One of the rules in this novel is that those attempting time travel into the past will experience cell death and will not survive–except for a select few. Only people with a certain genetic mutation can go back in time and survive. Another, and probably the most important, rule is that if you try to change the past, time will push back, so watch out!.
Our protagonist, Proteus, is trying desperately to change the past in order to avoid a nuclear holocaust, and time is resisting at every turn. Will Proteus be able to delay the nuclear bomb? And what effect will it all have on Proteus himself and the world he left behind? This is a time travel adventure that is both captivating and thought-provoking. It is also an action-packed scientific thriller, as Proteus battles with agents who are trying to steal the research that he is trying to sabotage! Proteus’s first impressions of early 20th Century London are entertaining and kept me reading on. His ability to weave himself into society is entertaining. His subterfuge and interactions with famous scientists take this book to the next level. It’s a wild ride, with Time as almost its own character in the book. If you like time travel, science, and thrillers, check this one out.

It is set in 1715 and 2016, in America and Scotland. The protagonist this time is Duncan Melville. He is a member of the Graham family who is rejected by his mother and is an outsider due to the nature of his birth. When a fierce thunderstorm inexplicably transports him to 2016, he meets Erin, who is dealing with troubles of her own.
I enjoyed the beginning of the story, and the author does a good job of showing Duncan’s isolation from the rest of the Graham family. The means of time travel is always important, and the mesmerizing bands of light that transport Duncan and Erin in time are intriguing. However, Duncan accepts arriving in the 21st century too easily, and his transition is too smooth. His quick assimilation into a world of cars, cell phones, internet, and airplanes is not believable. His speech also fits too well into the modern world. Erin’s arrival in 1715 is much more difficult and realistic.
There are many explicit sex scenes, so readers who avoid this should be aware. The relationship between Duncan and Erin also progresses much too quickly, as they go from strangers to kisses to sex very early in the book. The continued use of graphic sex feels like filler to me and keeps the author from really exploring the characters and the times in which they find themselves. The history of the Jacobite rebellion of 1715 in Scotland is explored, but I would have liked to have learned more. However, those who enjoy highly sensual romances with a bit of time travel and history will enjoy this book.

It is 1999 and Adam lives at his uncle’s bakery, the Biscuit Basket, in New York City. Adam is missing his parents, who passed away years earlier in a plane crash. Then a mysterious stranger visits, holding a snow globe. He tells Adam that adventures await him, and that he should go up to the attic. When he does, Adam finds the snow globe, which immediately takes him back in time to Times Square in 1935 and then later a candle factory in 1967. Adam soon realizes the people and places he is visiting are all connected, more magical objects exist, and a dark presence wants to control it all.
I adored this wonderful, enchanting time travel adventure. The characters are so well developed and the plot is very engaging. The author’s ability to connect characters from different backgrounds and time periods will leave you spellbound. Every time travel story has to have a means of or explanation for the time travel, and this one does it so well. The snow globe is sometimes curiously blank, but then the traveler’s destination will appear without warning and the holder will be whisked away to another time. This book is everything that fans of fantasy and time travel could wish for. It is a magical journey that will appeal to people of all ages. It is one of those books that I will read over and over again, and I will remember fondly the first time I read it. I can’t wait to share it with others and I sincerely hope I see this world and these characters again.

I’m delighted whenever a new one comes out, but this one is my favorite thus far. It ties up some loose ends, answers some questions, and delivers a whopper of a surprise.
The St Mary’s series is about a rollicking group of time traveling (don’t call it time travel) historians, who “observe historical events in contemporary time.” The first book is called Just One Damn Thing After Another. You will not regret trying this series. You will laugh, cry, and learn about history....more

The raucous, tea-loving, disaster prone group of time-traveling (don't call it that) historians are back, and I'm so happy to see them.
This time Max, Elspeth, and Evans go on an emergency mission. They encounter some new and interesting characters and the mystery continues to deepen around Markham.
If you love time travel and history, comedy, mystery, and a little romance, you must check out the St. Mary's series. The first book is Just One Damn Thing after another. There are 10 books and 14 short stories so far, including this one.
The story also includes an excerpt from the next book in the series, Plan for the Worst. ...more

A spinoff of her wonderful St. Mary's Chronicles, Doing Time is the story of Matthew, Jane, and Luke, trainees in the Time Police. Matthew is of course the son of Max and Leon from the St. Mary's Chronicles. There is mystery, laughter, and intrigue all rolled up in one story as the trio become Time Police cadets, and are faced with opposition from the Albayans, the leftover followers of the late Colonel Albay, the former Time Police leader and unapologetic fascist, who killed first and asked questions later.
St. Mary's makes an appearance and provides a lot of hilarity during some stressful times, and we learn a tiny bit about what is going on in Matthew's head. I hope more will be revealed in subsequent books.

Just One Damned Thing After Another is Book One of the St. Mary's Chronicles. It's one of those books where those of us who have read/listened to it envy others who get to read/listen to it for the first time.
Madeleine Maxwell (Max) works for St. Mary's Historical Research Center, where they study major historical events in contemporary time (DO NOT CALL IT TIME TRAVEL). In Book One, Max is a trainee in the History Department, and learns to travel to important periods in history. Jodi Taylor always provides more than one fascinating history lesson in all of her St. Mary's books, and this book is no exception. There are also ups and downs, comedy, adventure, and tragedy. You will laugh and cry. You will not want to stop listening, and you will want to read/listen to the other books in this series, which so far has 11 books and several short stories.
Now let's talk about Zara Ramm. She is the perfect narrator for this series. She's been narrating them from the beginning (with the exception of one short story that Jodi Taylor read), and now I couldn't possibly listen to someone else read these books. Zara has made her own permanent mark on this popular series.
The premise, the storyline, and the audible performance make this an addictive series that I never want to end. If you love time travel, history, and characters that jump off the page, you will love this series as much as I do....more
