This is a fun little origin story for the mythos behind the rest of this series. It's a great introduction to the demons that later become the trouble in each of our heroes. I felt for Geyron in this story. He was so sweet in his love for his goddess. This was cute and heart breaking.

This is a case of yay to most everything and then having to deal with a rushed ending that made me go all pouty-faced. I loved Kane and Syren togetherThis is a case of yay to most everything and then having to deal with a rushed ending that made me go all pouty-faced. I loved Kane and Syren together. I loved Syren's snarky bad guy person that covered up the damaged boy underneath. Inside he's hurting so much and his attraction and subsequent love of Kane is really all that keeps him going at times. He doesn't know how to care for himself as a person and be comfortable in how he is. Kane is damaged as well in his own way. The loss of love is something he's never gotten over, but being drawn to Syren is pulling him out of his self imposed shell.
I loved watching these two figure out their attraction to each other and how to handle it. My only problem comes that when the shit hit the fan Kane screwed up in a way that was totally unacceptable to me. I get where his reaction comes from. But then the book was over before I really got to feel like these two got all their dirty laundry aired and moved past. So this looses as star for tying things up with a bow all too quickly.
Otherwise I quite enjoyed this book. I like my damaged boys and these two are definitely that. There's one particular lost soul in this book that I certainly hope gets their own happily ever after soon. Kane played him a little hard in this one. I hate seeing a good guy get hurt through no real fault of his own.

Oh man did this tear at me. This is a hard story to read while still being wonderful. I really felt for Seth and Kelly. So much pain and anger in this story. I know some people seem to have tagged this as Young Adult but really I would call this New Adult even though it follows these two boys from a very young age. The timeline is more in keeping with a YA novel, but there are some very dark elements here and trigger warnings needed. The subject matter feels a little more mature than YA.
The emotions in this story were so raw that it was hard not to be sucked into the struggle going on for these guys. Seth is such a doll. I loved that his head was in the clouds and yet Kelly could always manage to ground him. His love of music and his dedication to his violin was all encompassing. I worried with how the story started that we'd be mired in a family drama I was going to hate, but how Seth's father and Kelly's father dragged themselves up out of the struggle of their alcoholism was wonderful. The support between these two families was great. And because of it I loved the young love that develop between these two boys and how their discovery of it all came about.
But then things take such a dark turn. The torment these two suffered because of others actions was horrifying. But the love the had for each other was such a bright spot. This story covers so many years and so much time apart they really had to fight for each other. I truly enjoyed this story even as it ripped at my heart.

Sure there's lots of denial and it's not real right moments, but there's plenty of history between these two guys to make a relationship between them seem real and viable. Raff and Nick are perfect for each other because they're best friends even if Raff has never really realized who/what he wants.
The story is a little rushed at the end, climactic can't do this moment is over and done pretty quickly to get to the HEA, but I'll take it. Because I like these guys, I like what they can be together, and everything is still expected to take time. :) Happy place.

Ok I read this book years and years ago, but really remembered none of it. But this was soooooo good. I loved Yamane and Rory together. Sure this is instalove, but somehow it all worked for me. Rory's had this obsession with his favorite artist for years and felt he had this connection with the artist he thought was a woman. But even finding out that Ran Yamane was a man isn't enough to destroy the connection. The relationship between these two was just so palpable. I really loved how things vibrated between these two. Sure normally this type of things bug me, but for whatever reason in this case it just made me smile.
The stalker storyline for all that it was a teensy bit absurd actually held together pretty well. Really only the bits about her family background seemed a little too opportunistic. They just made her stalking easier for her. But of course she was batshit crazy and you were just waiting for Rory and Yamane to find away to stop her for good. I liked that her stalking sent Rory and Yamane on the run though because it did really force them together and to deal with the real person not the image they had.
This story made me smile and also made me cry a little bit. Loved this.

Amazing! Just beyond perfect, touching, heart wrenching, wonderful...and adjective after adjective."
I'm going to just say that for now and try to write a real review here in a little bit once my heart has settled. Perfect doesn't even begin to describe this book.
I just don’t know what possessed me to resist reading this book for this long. I was a complete and utter idiot. This book is getting moved immediately to my favorites list and I know I’ll re-read it time and time again.
I had been warned before starting this book that it was going to make me cry. I was all prepared for angst central. And of course it succeeded. Now if you define angst as “book that makes you cry,” which I quite frankly have asserted as recently as last night, then I guess this book qualifies as angst. But I gotta break my own rules here. This wasn’t angst, tear your heart out in pain angst, this was just honest, pure, true love and hope, and misunderstanding and I cried more happy tears than anything. It defies my definition!
Carrick “Crick” Francis has had a troubled life. Abused by his stepfather and neglected completely by his mother, somehow he’s managed to find a home for himself at a neighboring ranch, The Pulpit. Along with a job mucking out stables Crick has got himself a case of adoration and hero worship for the slightly older high school boy whose ranch it is.
Deacon Winters quickly becomes Crick’s salvation and it’s only fair as Crick has fast becomes Deacon’s calm in the storm. Deacon has always been fairly uncomfortable around people; painfully shy he lets almost no one into his inner circle. Yet somehow Crick has always just been there, from the minute they first met. Losing his father puts all of Deacon’s plans on hold and leaves the two boys with only each other for support. While Crick may have owned up to being gay and unintentionally outed himself to the town, neither boy has ever stated what they truly want to each other. The day that changes is the day everything changes.
I don’t know how coherent this review will ever be since I can’t seem to make my brain focus on how to say how much I loved this book. It’s all…[image] and [image]
This book so beautifully tracks the life of Crick and Deacon’s epic romance. The misunderstandings these two go through and the suffering that results will break your heart. Watching Deacon waste away when Crick leaves, I just wanted to rush in and wrap in a big hug! [image]
Thank god for Benny! Her relationship with Deacon is just exactly what he needed and everything I wanted to read. She’s insecure and irreverent all at the same time. She doesn’t take his crap, but also needs all the reassurance she can get. Her final action at the end of the book…*HAPPY TEARS A PLENTY!*
While I know Crick over reacted in the moment I absolutely understand why he did. His running away to the military is so sad and yet you respect him for his stand up nature when he refuses to take the one out he knows he has available to him when he finds out how wrong he was. His honor and standing up to his commitments means something to him even if the military would kick him out for being who he is.
I wanted to crush 90% of this backwoods little town under my boot heel for the stupid immature nastiness they unleashed on the sweetest boys ever! Horse-Aids…I mean really?!?!?! And Benny’s sperm donor of a parent…[image]
I loved the way Ms. Lane used Twitter/Text messaging to have Deacon and Crick communicate with each other while Crick was over seas. Some of their banter there were my favorite little gems, especially when Benny would interject her two cents.
There there’s Lisa…just cry now!
I can’t…I really don’t know what to say. There’s no adequate descriptions to say how fabulous and must read this book is. Do it! Do it now! You won’t be sorry.

This was just such a lovely story. I always enjoy it when an author can take a trope that's been done a lot and make the story fresh and fascinating. I loved these characters. I felt for Miles and Daphne as they're both jilted and their exes are off to the sunset together. We get to go on the journey with these two as they discover what is on the other side of heartbreak. The friendship that grows between these two as they recover is just lovely. Daphne has lost sight of who she is outside of a relationship and Miles has such self doubt in his own value. But in each other they find someone with whom they can really connect, someone who they can show their true self and vulnerabilities to.
There's a fun cast of supporting characters in this one as well. I loved Ashleigh and her relationship with Daphne. Their friendship is awkward at first, but both of them found something in each other that they needed. Neither had that girlfriend they could go to and needed to find that person for themselves. Someone outside of a relationship that let them be themselves and supported them. Ashleigh was so fun in her snark, but she has a good heart.
This story got me hooked immediately and definitely pulled at my heartstrings when everything hit it's low point. You felt the relationship as it developed between Daphne and Miles and were cheering for both of them to realize their growth with each other. Miles is such a great guy and I hurt for him as he didn't really realize how good of a guy he truly was. He's there for those around him even when he feels like he's failing. Love the feel good ending to this story. I needed a good happy romance between two likeable characters....more
I'm going to write one review for this series and basically post it to all of them, because really this is just one big lovely holiday story about allI'm going to write one review for this series and basically post it to all of them, because really this is just one big lovely holiday story about all the Kings/extended Kings/and the boyfriends.
I thoroughly enjoyed returning to this world and the idea of all of these guys just getting away for a little bit. Of course nothing can be as simple as all that in the Kings world.
Of course it's Colton (Not so Silent Night) who gets the big idea to finally have the white Christmas he's always sort of dreamed of having. And Ace will do anything to give his man the big family white Christmas of his dreams. So, King's reluctance or not they're all going to be going Winterhaven for a month and indulge in all the Christmas traditions the town has to offer. It can't be that smooth of course as the poor town's about to have a pretty un-stellar Christmas as their town hall/Ice Castle was damaged in some foul weather and they've had to cancel most of the holiday plans. Hello to all the guys as they have the perfect plan to save Winterhaven's Christmas.
Fitz (Sleigh it Ain't So) and Jack pick things up and fixing the wiring and the electricity to the Ice Palace quickly begins to show the cracks in their relationship. Fitz would do anything for Jack, but Jack's workaholic coping mechanism is driving a wedge between them that Jack is oblivious to. Sprinkle a little Christmas magic though and Fitz can find more happiness than ever, and bring along another couple along the way.
Gio and Joker (Home for the Howlidays) were always two of my favorites and by this point all of the dogs are an additional crack up. In trying to get more people into town, Gio's got the perfect plan and it brings Joker face to face with his biggest fear in their relationship. That now that Gio's health is managed he's going to want more to his life and return to the jet setting philanthropy lifestyle he's always known. Of course facing those fears will have the two closer than ever.
And running through it all is Leo's (Rebel without a Claus) secret plan that no one's party to, but somehow involves Santa, or at least the town's mayor who looks like Santa. He's got something big planned for King and is determined to accomplish it all on his own.
I loved all of the shenanigans in this story as everyone pulled together to save this town's biggest event and it brought all of their relationships a little closer together. I would have loved to see a little more of what Leo was up to (ok so I really wanted to see his interactions with Santa, especially the first one), but all in all this was a lovely Christmas story that had me smiling across all four books....more

This was hard as I felt awful for Bertram and Sorin being apart for so many many years in order to protect each other and fight for what's right within the dragon world. This isn't an easy situation and Bertram and Sorin don't have an easy time getting to their HEA. But I'm really satisfied with where things got to.
Of course when all the rest of the crew gets involved things become twisted in the best possible way. I love all of these characters. None of this is easy, there have been some horrible things that have happened and make a reconciliation between all the family difficult. But I was cheering for them to fight there was back together. I loved Bertram's phone call to his father from his and Sorin's hide away.
I just hope that even if these two aren't writing together anymore we're not done in this world. I would love a certain son following in his father's footsteps to get his own story, and well I'd really take anyone in this world. :)...more
Yes, yes, yes! Give me more! I love this series so much. And oh my god, but Amaru is adorkable. His brain is just such fun. Of course he was going to Yes, yes, yes! Give me more! I love this series so much. And oh my god, but Amaru is adorkable. His brain is just such fun. Of course he was going to send his mates into a tailspin. I felt for Luka especially. He and Vasily have been together for so long and it's hard to believe that there could be one mage mate for the both of them. He's so sure he's going to lose the man he loves, but as much as it will kill him he's going to do what is best for Vasily.
I will admit that the absolute lack of communication between these three, especially between Vasily and Luka, was incredibly frustrating. I wish that they'd all just talked eons earlier and settled in with each other so that more of the plot could have been explored as they figured out how to wake up the remainder of Amaru's clan. That storyline was fascinating.
Still I just can't ever not enjoy these stories. I love the characters and the world so much....more

It's really a prologue to this book as it details the circumstances wherein Mike and Shane met...in the middle of a forest fire. Knowing the details of what they've been through means you're cheering for these two from the start. Both these guys were lovely people. I felt for Mike as he's dealing with a family and a career that makes coming out incredibly scary and difficult. Shane has already been through the bad side of coming out and knows it's not ever going to be easy. This story pulls at the heart strings and definitely had a few tears rolling for me.
I loved Mike's mom and his sister, really all the females in his family. The hyper masculine culture he comes from makes admitting his sexuality difficult, but what he feels for Shane is shaking the foundations of the walls he's built. Shane introduces him to an open and out world that he's never gotten to experience.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more of the series. ...more

I was worried the patient line would be crossed in a way that didn't feel consensual or smart. Instead that's just their introduction and everything River and Brent feel for each other is only sparked by that interaction.
I loved the randomness of how these two were reintroduced to each other. Their relationship was so sweet and I felt for Brent as he fell for a man who wasn't supposed to stay. Of course, River never expected to want the sorts of things that Brent represented, but the connection between them was undeniable.
This had all the feels. I was happy for for these two as they figured out just what they meant to each other. Each was determined to do everything possible to be honest and upfront and not hurt the other, which still lead to a lot of emotional angst that you knew would come back around. Yay for happily ever afters. ...more

But they're good tears and I love all these characters so...yep sign me up every time. I've wanted Rex's story. He was such a great side character in previous books. He's deserved his HEA for awhile. This did not disappoint. He's immediately drawn to Dev despite the circumstances of their first meeting. Both of these guys are reluctant to let anyone into their heart, but the draw is there and they can't escape it.
Rex's soft spot for his grandfather is one of my favorite parts of him and this book. I loved seeing Dev's interactions with the Duke as well. They are such a wonderful family and both men have been alone for so long. Tragedy has been so much a part of Rex's young life that he hasn't really allowed himself to open up to anyone else. Dev's sort of slithered his way in and slowly but surely pried that door open a little at a time.
I love Con Riley's writing and the entire world she's developed in Cornwall. I love all these characters and hope for many more stories where we get to see glimpses of all my favorites....more

It's fun to see Luke all grown up and getting a story of his own. He had such a rough childhood and I understood how as a grown man he's still dealing with the repercussions of that. He makes a lot of stupid decisions for an incredibly bright guy because of old traumas and anger. Rufus on the other hand is just genuinely the best sort of soul. He's gruff and clearly a soldier, but one that always choses what's best for those around him. He'll make a brilliant earl. Of course he needs to deal with the family he's stuck with first.
I enjoyed the cousins, with Odo and Berengaria were bright spots in a relatively horrid family. Everyone had their backgrounds that made them more unique and interesting, complex characters.
The story got me. I may have leaked a few tears over Luke and Rufus' issues. Because man did Luke screw up. Rufus was such a lovely person though and I wanted them to find their way through things. The two are perfect together. Rufus needs a little bit of Luke's sneaky and duplicituness. And Luke needs all of the steady he can get. Together their future is bright.
I really enjoyed the way this wrapped up all the little storylines from the previous book. I found this ending to be totally satisfying and really the best possible solution to everything....more
I'm glad I went back a re-read the first book in the series to be reintroduced to these two. It just made reading this novel more fulfilling. Ray and I'm glad I went back a re-read the first book in the series to be reintroduced to these two. It just made reading this novel more fulfilling. Ray and Cal's first trip into matehood was not an easy one by any means, so to now have Ray unable to remember any of it had to be horrendous for Cal. I felt for the boys throughout the whole thing. Ray's whole world is shaken and he is struggling to find the right way up as the pull he feels towards Cal is still there and he's got no explanation for it all.
This story is darker in a lot of ways than others in the series and puts front and center a lot of the issues in the criminal justice system. Ray and his partner Penn run smack up against the prejudices that they've tried to pretend weren't there as the only Beings on the force. This story really pushes the world to a more volatile tipping point than others in the series. There's more political commentary laced through this paranormal story than others in the series.
I still loved the return to Cal and Ray and getting to see them find their relationship all over again. And get a little bit more of what Cal should have gotten the first time around, yet maybe it took Cal starting to grow up a bit to really give them the HEA they deserved. Ray's mate instincts weren't going to allow him to deny his feelings for Cal without all the history being their for him to question. And Cal gets to see he really is Ray's choice and not forced upon him....more

I'm not generally a fan of age gap as a trope, typically it just doesn't work for me and well the description had me hesitant to dive into this one. Silly silly me. This was just fantastic. This has all the feels and got the tears in moments for all of those feels.
I loved this book. I adored how Wren and Mateo met and their subsequent romance. This is such a sweet slow burn despite the short nature of their acquaintance as these two get to know each other travelling around the island. I just felt like the really got to know each other and appreciate the person they were with before just out and out jumping into bed together. No granted it is still a really short time period, but it didn't feel that way. I loved Wren upsetting Teo's tidy little world and opening him back up to the enjoyment of it all. His horror at how Wren is treated initially at his hotels is just so sweet. He's completely baffled at how "the other half lives."
Adored this and I really hope a certain best friend is getting his own story soon too....more

So much of his past and buried secrets are revealed in this story. They're rock you to your core sort of secrets and I both hated knowing them and needed to know how everything came about.
(view spoiler)[So much of what happened to Rune and Brand was outside their control, they were kids, and yet knowing would utterly destroy Brand. And keeping that secret is killing Rune. Joe's energy was just such fun. He's a ball of spunk and fire. Lachlan just doesn't know what to do with him. He's enthralled, but not used to being in that state. And Joe has his own insecurities that lead to misunderstandings when you're in a whirlwind courtship. I'll take a snowstorm and a little devious behavior to give love a second chance.
I didn't know what I was getting into, but it didn't take long before I was sucked right in....more
