I've always had a fascination with Japanese culture and had a love of anime and manga. The blend of the American college and the Japanese influences was lovely. Xander was such a fascinating curmudgeon. I loved how cranky he was. So used to being hurt he choses not to have anyone in this life, not realizing he's already started to have a support system whether he meant to or not.
I loved how passionate Skylar was about his frat and wanting to do the right thing. His fanboy crush on all thing manga was adorable. The way he became a part of Xander's life was so cute. He wasn't going to take no for an answer, but he got more from the developing relationship than he ever expected.
Xander and Skylar's group of friends were a lot of fun as well. I liked the match up with the gods. It added an additional layer of fun to this story. But I think one of the things I liked the most was how this story dealt with the different sexualities on the spectrum. Zelda's character was handled wonderfully as an ace. I loved how much of a non-story it was. They were presented as they were and it wasn't even questioned. It made it so much easier for Skylar to accept his own gray area of the spectrum.
Xander and Skylar figuring out how to be together was sweet and lovely. Both of them were so willing to try to work out what would make things work for them both sexually while knowing that they loved the person the other was.

The college has the done the best they can to house the boys in a way to give them the most space for their issues. Of course that does throw them together.
Tom Worthington has fought hard to be able to get back to school and finish his degree. After his father was arrested for running a ponzi scheme Tom's life has spiraled out of control. All his family assets have been seized and he's been living essentially on the street driving a cab both legally and as a gypsy cab in order to save up enough money to get himself through his final year of school. Getting back onto campus though isn't the only struggle. Everyone there is aware of what happened and who his father is so the campus has agreed to house Tom in adult housing away from most of the typical college aged students. Stumbling into his new room half awake after a long few days driving he just wants to pass out and get some sleep.
Reese Anders was not supposed to have a roommate this year after what happened to him the year before. It was the only way this father would let him come back to campus. He was supposed to be set up in adult housing and be on his own. When a guy with a key stumbles in Reese is determined to do anything and everything he can to scare the guy away. Only Tom doesn't seem to be fazed by the fact that Tom's gay or any of the other things Reese has tried.
I really liked these two and their battle of wills over being stuck living together. Neither of them was prepared to really have a roommate, and certainly not the roommate they got, but they're just what the other needed. I enjoyed the slow burn nature of this build up. There was a lot of time spent while these two got to know each other with out even trying to get to know each other. There were a lot of misconceptions that only time could dissuade.
Altogether this was a really sweet story with a darker history. But like it should college offered both of these boys the opportunity to start over and find someone who would be there for them no matter what.

Look, there's something very authentic about this book. The dialogue/voice of this story alone gives it a verisimilitude one can hardly deny. There's Look, there's something very authentic about this book. The dialogue/voice of this story alone gives it a verisimilitude one can hardly deny. There's something about the way the British dialect is depicted in this story that makes on really feel like I'm there. A solid 3.5 star read that I'm rounding up as I enjoyed this book more than the first in this series.
Tom and Phil are still tiptoeing around each other when it comes to certain subjects within their relationship, but all in all things are going well. While Tom's family and friends are still hesitant about his relationship with Phil based on their history Tom's happier than he's ever been. But a combination of a strange request from an dear old friend from beyond the grave and his sister's engagement party send Tom's life spinning into the world of mystery again. This time his sister's been targeted and with Phil's help Tom is determined to find out who is threatening his family.
Again I enjoyed the mystery in the story more than the romance. It's not even that I dislike Tom and Phil as a couple, I just don't really feel the romance between them. I actually like both men and like the way they work together. I just doesn't feel like the sparks fly between them somehow. I don't know what it is about this particular couple that I can't seem to get behind. I liked how they were starting to talk about a few things in this book and making a concerted effort to reach out, which isn't easy for either of these two men. I did feel like the two of them got closer over the course of this book. Maybe it's just that both characters come across as so reserved most of the time that it's hard to imagine them in such a tizzy of love for each other.
I did really enjoy the way that Tom's relationship with his sister developed in this story. I really enjoyed watching them get unwittingly closer as the book went along. This book reads very smoothly and progresses in a very believable manner. The mystery isn't over the top and for the most part the actions people take are understandable and make complete sense to the story. I enjoyed my reading of this book and I'm happily surprised to find I do want to check out the next book in the series. I'm curious to see how things continue to develop. I'll just keep my fingers crossed for a little more romance as Tom and Phil get each other out of jams.

This was a sweet Cinderella retelling from the point of view of the fairy godmother, or at least her assistant. ;) This is heavy on the fairytale and light on the romance, but I'm a little forgiving of it because I did like Hayden and Lily a lot. I didn't feel like we got to know Sidney as well as I would have liked. But this was an interesting twist on how to tell the fairytale.
For in this tale, magic has been outlawed and any who practice it subject to being thrown in the dungeons. Hayden has been on the run helping Lily assist those she chooses, but mean evil knight Sidney (ok so he's not mean or evil really) has been attempting to catch Hayden under suspicion of being a mage. Of course Hayden is terrified by the prospects of being caught and what that would mean for Lily. But once Lily has chosen a target there's no way they'll move on until the job is complete. So helping Renee find her happily ever after with her prince is going to happen, meddling knight or no meddling knight.
I did enjoy the antics in this story, but I wanted a little more romance between Sidney and Hayden. I didn't mind that this keeps true to fairytale romance and doesn't have any sex between the characters, but I would have liked a little more connection rather than it seemingly coming out of nowhere. Still this made me smile and was a sweet, quick read.

I was a little disappointed in this book, I guess I was hoping for a little more. I actually really liked Matt, but Winter was a bit off-putting for me. It felt like the author was trying so hard to make him different and unused to being around pack/people, that he didn't feel as innately likable as I would have liked.
Some of the plot of this was a bit ridiculous and predictable but I did like how the ending came about and resolved things. It was a little clunky in the middle but worked itself out. I felt for Matt as he was completely at a loss for how to deal with all the things in his life, his father's illness, the strangeness in the case he was looking into, and his own fears for his sanity. He was by far my favorite of the characters in this one.
Still I'm happy to have read this story and get to the end of this series. It was decent if not anything rave worthy.

This is a case of yay to most everything and then having to deal with a rushed ending that made me go all pouty-faced. I loved Kane and Syren togetherThis is a case of yay to most everything and then having to deal with a rushed ending that made me go all pouty-faced. I loved Kane and Syren together. I loved Syren's snarky bad guy person that covered up the damaged boy underneath. Inside he's hurting so much and his attraction and subsequent love of Kane is really all that keeps him going at times. He doesn't know how to care for himself as a person and be comfortable in how he is. Kane is damaged as well in his own way. The loss of love is something he's never gotten over, but being drawn to Syren is pulling him out of his self imposed shell.
I loved watching these two figure out their attraction to each other and how to handle it. My only problem comes that when the shit hit the fan Kane screwed up in a way that was totally unacceptable to me. I get where his reaction comes from. But then the book was over before I really got to feel like these two got all their dirty laundry aired and moved past. So this looses as star for tying things up with a bow all too quickly.
Otherwise I quite enjoyed this book. I like my damaged boys and these two are definitely that. There's one particular lost soul in this book that I certainly hope gets their own happily ever after soon. Kane played him a little hard in this one. I hate seeing a good guy get hurt through no real fault of his own.

I do love these two so much. Sebastian is such an interesting character. I love his curiosity and his insatiable need to figure things out. His disability just makes things more interesting. He's never hampered by his visual impairment, he's determined to be everything he can be. And still no matter how hard he tries to stay out of trouble, trouble always seems to find him. I felt for Calvin as this time it's his boss bringing Sebastian in on the case. They'd agreed no more sleuthing, but really this was just consulting...right?
This story takes the established love between Calvin and Sebastian and makes them deal with some lingering issues. How they feel about each other is never in doubt, but they've been through so much there are insecurities that haven't been completely dealt with. By the end of this story though, there's no way that these two aren't going to be solid forever. I love them! I love how they work together and how much Calvin appreciates Seb's uniqueness. I adored seeing Calvin open up about some of his history as well. It gave Sebastian a new window into understanding his man.
I hate that we won't be with these two any more. I'd be down for an any more mysteries they want to solve. But I'm also really satisfied with how these two have ended up. The killer in this one was a lovely twist and kept things interesting right to the bitter end.

I think it’s partially because we’re seeing Jackson start to heal or at least face the dark sides of himself. Ellery is so awesome in his support and his heart. They're just such a great duo and well all the other characters that get thrown into the crossover of this one were great too. I'm definitely really enjoying this series and am happy that it's going to continue.
All of the crazy that has been surrounding Ellery and Jackson lately comes to a bit of a head in this one. A lot more details are discovered, and of course things go a little off the rails. But I'll accept a few over the top moments for the sake of an entertaining story. Sure some of it's a bit unrealistic, but it still works for me. It's the fun kind of action that keeps you interested rather than the absolutely unbelievable sort that throws you out of a story.
I liked all the couples in this book, I've enjoyed them in the past and I really liked their interactions in this story as well. I'm looking forward to the next book even though the focus looks like it'll be Ernie and Burton rather than Jackson and Ellery.

I was enthralled with the way the world was established and Dominic captured my heart right away with his earnest nature. I love Rook's passion to find the truth. Such a good beginning to a series I'm now super excited to dig into reading. I liked the way magic and practitioners were divided up. It's an interesting spin on the genre. Just enough intrigue to keep the short interesting and believably throw Rook and Dominic into each other's path. Dominic is so sweet and determined to be the best at drawing hexes and helping the police force he couldn't qualify to join after failing his magical aptitude test. Of course there's more to Dominic than even he knows and Rook is all he needs to bring it out. I loved the way Rook was with Dominic as he got to know him. As a familiar Rook knows what he's about, but he's always been solo as he hasn't found his witch. So fun watching these two get together and I can't wait to read more.

This new group of characters are engaging and absolutely pull me in. I like all of them, even the reluctant Mortimer. I like the little bit of creepy that always underlines anything in Widdershins. The librarians are exactly the sort of devoted power all librarians should be. :) I love that they're just a little bit badass in with all their nerdy goodness.
This just makes me happy. The mystery is entertaining and the potential for a greater threat with the other books is ever present. Also who knows what is happening to Sebastian with his ties to the books. These books just always make me happy and for that I'll always come back to them.

You keep thinking it can't get better and yet it does. I keep wondering if I'll ever get tired of reading about Whyborne and Griffin, again yeah, nope. I never used to much like reading a romance series all about the same characters, but they've grown on me and this series is one of the reasons why.
Things have been quiet in Widdershins lately, but for Ival and Griffin they know something's coming eventually. It's all about waiting for the other shoe to drop. They may have one the last battle but they're not stupid enough to think they've won the war. When the next battle arrives it's going to change the way Widdershins functions and no one is going to be able to ignore the things in the shadows any longer.
This story stepped up the game and really takes this entire cast to the next level in their story. I felt for Ival in this one, he's never wanted to be in the spotlight. He's always wanted a quiet life with the man he loves, but the world is conspiring around him and it's not going to allow that to be the case. This book changes everything and somehow these two are going to have to stand strong together and trust in their friends to survive.

I think this may have been my favorite book in the series so far. Both Ondry and Liam are becoming more comfortable with what to expect from 4.5 Stars
I think this may have been my favorite book in the series so far. Both Ondry and Liam are becoming more comfortable with what to expect from each other. There are less communication errors between the two, but outside forces illuminate just how they've come.
I really appreciated how much Liam had adapted in this story. His thinking isn't quite human anymore. But his past does allow him insights into interpreting the way human nature will push other humans to react. He's adopted much of the way of Rownt way of thinking. It's much more concise and straightforward than most humans would think, but yet the nuances are a language all their own.
I felt like both Liam and Ondry matured in this book. Both in their relationship and in how they related to the outside world. This is a becoming a really fascinating story about the integration of a human into an alien culture. I'm really liking how that is developing.

There was a lot of emotion bound up in this story. Tyler had a lot to figure out and was mostly oblivious to the effect he was having. I liked his obliviousness for the most part, though at times I looked at him like really???
Jake's story and thought process was a little more traditional best friend in love. He goes along with what Tyler plots as he can't really do anything else. He knows that it'll hurt him in the long wrong, but he's helpless to say no to what he's always wanted.
I enjoyed the emotion packed into this one. I particularly enjoyed Tyler's path to realization. The phone call to Jake was wonderful and so lost. I'm really happy I got to read this one.

It was a little too much sex and no real connection between these two. In fact Ian was determined to show state all the reasons he had zero interest in someone like Sam. Sam's geekiness was a little too much at times as well. Bumbling can be adorable, but it's pushed so far in this one that I kept waiting for a little more confidence to show up in Sam.
The second half of the book improved as Ian actually started to talk about things and not just be all me man want sex. I did enjoy his bafflement with it all as he just plain didn't understand feelings. I did get a little more strength developing in Sam too which helped. They felt like a more balanced couple by the end that just enjoyed a little submission in the bedroom.
