It's practically impossible to distinguish one from the other, because Webber has taken the poems almost word for word - meaning I cannot read any of them without hearing the songs in my head. That being the case - and I know it's sacrilege - I'd recommend the play over the book any day....more

Two kingdoms can lie on opposide sides of Eternity, and still have borders that cross each other, without the worlds ever meeting. But if fate so decides, the barriers of time and space disappear. Dystopia is one of those amazing fantasy books, that - though I remember I love them - I forget from time to time just HOW good they are. I love the universe that Dennis Jürgensen creates, and the detail he puts into the description of it.
Even though I more or less know the story by heart by now, I still lose myself completely in the universe of Dystopia, and the fates of the eudaimons and the two humans. It's the age-old fight between good and evil, but with some delightful twists that make it seem new and original.
Unfortunately it's never been translated into English. It's well worth learning Danish to read it though! ;)...more

I'd heard a lot about it, mostly people saying that it was boring and long-winded, so I was a bit apprehensive when we had to read it for book club. It ended up not being boring at all though, and I really enjoyed it :-) It's about a group of Swedish farmers, who decide to move to Jerusalem to help the poor there. I think it takes place in 18-something if I recall correctly. Interesting book. It did have a rather amusing quote though - ended up being involuntarily funny: "Everybody found themselves unable to sleep in the warm nights of Jerusalem, and even more people lay tossing and turning all night through." More people than everybody? Interesting.... ;-)...more

Even after multiple readings, this continues to be one of my all-time favourite series. It was a bit frustrating that it took Richard and Kahlan so long to get back together, but that's my only real complaint here. Sometimes it gets frustrating when you try to follow several different plotlines at once, but I think it worked quite well in this one, and loved especially Ann's and Velma's storylines even if they did have very little to do with Richard....more

It points out scripture after scripture of how God loves us, is enthralled by our beauty and wants us to not be wall-flowers but come dance with him. It's difficult to do it justice in words, but I highly recommend it. I read it in no time and often found myself moved to tears by the beauty of it. Even if nobody else seems to, God loves us above anything else. It took some getting used to, to read of God's love as a romantic love, but then it struck me, why not? There are different kinds of love - romantic love, friendship love and family love, just to mention the most obvious ones. If I'd ever thought to categorize God's love (other than 'just') being divine), I'd have called it family love. But isn't that limiting God's love? After all, Jesus calls us friends (John 15 somewhere), so obviously there's friendship love involved as well, and a marriage is pretty empty without romantic love, so when we're called to be the bride and Jesus the bridegroom, shouldn't that be included as well? Huh... I'd never thought of that before, but put like that, I guess it makes sense?
I now regret it took me so long to read it, as it might have been able to help me through some of the hard times by teaching me not to rely solely on others for my happiness and feeling of self-worth, but leaving that in the hands of God.
Reread in 2010: While I still greatly appreciated the message shared in the book, I wasn't quite as blown away by it as on my first read through and therefore had to downscale my rating to 4 stars. I'm not sure what the difference is, only it jumped out at me on this read-through that Angela Thomas spends a lot of time on the theory, and very little on how to put it into practice. I think just about any Christian woman would want to dance with God, but if a person doesn't know how to actually go about doing it, they won't necessarily learn it from this book.
On the other hand, they might. And it's still a beautiful sentiment and theory, so I'd still highly recommend it....more

Part of me loved the different anecdotes told, and how the different stories fit together, but another part of me was a bit disappointed. Not because it was a bad book in any shape or form - not at all - it was just very different from what I had expected. I think I'll like it more as a reread, because then I know what to expect. I'm really surprised this has been turned into a movie though! I can't really see how that would work....more

I still enjoyed it, but some of the emo-ness got to me a bit more this time around... and honestly, if I hadn't had a similarly powerful relationship experience at much the same age (thinking I'd found "The One" at an early age), there are a lot of Edward and Bella's interactions I wouldn't have found the least bit believable. But I did, so I know such a thing can happen... but that doesn't stop me from scoffing at it.
It got better as the book moved along though, but I had forgotten HOW much of a Mary Sue Bella really is.

It's nice to read about Tortal again, even if this book is not as good as neither "Alanna" nor "Protector of the Small". There were some things in it I found a bit squicky though. I must admit to not being terribly impressed though... perhaps it's just a matter of me not being too fond of short stories in general, but I was pretty much left cold by it...
