Children are my whole life, I work with them all day everyday. While reading this I thought of some of my kids. Sometimes they get so worked up, but of course they never burst into actual flames. But I thought the story was very well written and the children were portrayed not as perfect. Which they aren’t no child is, no human being is perfect. But I thought they were perfect in their own little way. Lillian was the perfect person for them. Their relationship unfolded before me beautifully. ...more
4.5⭐️ This story was just enough scary, just enough intrigue. It was short and terrifying. Absolutely a great short horror story. I’m actually kind of 4.5⭐️ This story was just enough scary, just enough intrigue. It was short and terrifying. Absolutely a great short horror story. I’m actually kind of scared to get out of my bed now at night with the lights off. Hendrix knows how to write brilliant scary stories and I love him for it. I absolutely wished this was a longer book, but it was also a perfect length.
It makes you think, is he telling the truth about the Ankle Snatcher or is he doing all of this? I think the Ankle Snatcher is real within this story. Nobody believes of course. However, there has always been stories about the Boogeyman or something in the closet etc. always scary bedtime stories. This book made me think about one thing; do we make the monsters real? Maybe I just was not the target audience and someone else will like it so don’t let my review and my feelings about it affect yours....more

As we all know by now, I don’t read the blurbs and I don’t think I ever will even though I’m trying to get better at that. Anyway, I had no idea what I was walking into when I started this book. I will say I was shocked when I started reading. This book starts out raw and dark. And stays that way as we travelled with Evan and Noelle.
We get to read about their trauma. How they got through it, how they were mentally afterwards. Then closure. As sick as it sounds I enjoyed this book, I appreciated going through the motions with them. It was well written. It was enough to make you sick, but you fell in love with the characters because of their strength and determination to push through. Whatever it took, to leave whole together.
“No,” he said, his eyes held to hers, “we stay whole. We leave here whole.”
Does loving me seem like the deepest betrayal you could possibly commit?” ...more
