'He’s everything I remember.' 'I wasn’t crazy. He is amazing.'
This book was everything I want in a book and then some. Had me feeling all the angst without falling back on overused tropes.
I love when there are problems that are not a direct consequence of one MC being an Unforgivable Dick™
Why can't we have more of this? THIS is why I read romance. I like wanting them together, in spite of everything. This is one of those books where I don't feel like either MC settled.
“I’ll never recover from this.”, said Davey, that dramatic MF, at least THIRTEEN times this book. He was right, though.

Also, these two are still as suffocatingly cute as they were in books 1&2.

Serious question. Why do authors keep saying 'blunt cock'? Are there some that are......not? *asking for academic purposes.

Anyway. These two continue to adore tf out of each other and it's such a delight to read.
Having their initial love declaration in front of Thomas' ex wife that's trying to get back with him is the level of peak petty I aspire to.
Being older than the father of the man you're dating is wildddddddd lol. No wonder Cooper asked if Thomas was any good at self-defense.
I love how when Thomas gets something....not quite right, Cooper makes him try, try, try again until he gets it right. He had to ask this man to move in like 82 times...more

To the point that I enjoyed the veterans' interactions more than the romance. I loved the Bitches.
Is there an undercurrent of love? Yes. But for me it read more like a healing story, and finding yourself after a traumatic event.
Which brings me to my next issue. This......didn't read like a double bi-awakening either. Brandt was very much into West from the jump. And West may or may not have been aware of it but he was also not very platonic with Brandt prior to the event.
These men were making eye contact while jerking off less than 6% into the book. But to be fair it's the first time either of them acts on it with another man so maybe that counts.
I like a bit of give and take in my romance, and while I agree that West needed a lot of healing and Brandt was the greenest of flags in being there for him, it was at the expense of Brandt's own wellness.
More than once, he had to put aside his own pain to cater to West's. It was a recurrent thing. He doesn't get to process his own trauma, a lot of which is directly due to West. The number of times he had to freak out over foiling yet another suicide attempt. Only to have to do it again a few days later.
But for Brandt, it was always West first. No matter what.
"I don’t know who I am anymore.” “I know who you are."
“Three legs, huh? Can’t fall with three legs.” “We’re a fucking tripod, baby. We’re never gonna fall, and we’re never gonna lose our way.”
“Don’t forget, just because I’m not with you doesn’t mean you don’t have my legs.”
That said, whichever way I choose to look at it, Brandt was very willing to do whatever it took for West. So at least it had unconditional unwavering devotion.
This book is very 'I'll hold us both up until you're able to stand on your own, and then I'll stand with you.'

I don't like when they're younger and make reckless decisions for love because they don't yet grasp the repurcussions. I want them to know exactly how what they're doing would fuck shit up. Then do it anyway.
Seeing the magical aspects in the blurb, I picked this up in spite of that, because I usually love this author's books.
Finding out that the MCs were 29 and 30? That was the first plus in a long list of pluses for this book.
I loved how they got to know each other slowly, hesitantly and I could see their feelings develop from attraction, to grudging admiration, to friendship and finally to love.
I loved that they were old(er) and yet loved like they'd never experienced hurt. No holds barred, even though they knew they couldn't possibly last.
I LOVED that the love declaration didn't equal automatic forgiveness and slate wiped clean trust from the other. That slightly petty passive aggressive thing he does to rub it in? Big fan.
Things got a little bit too out there for me towards the peak of the subplot conflict, which I'm a bit meh on(because again —me and magic don't really mesh), but I generally really loved this....more

Mark spends half the book annoyed to be falling in love, and the other half annoyed that Eddie loves him back, in precisely the way he's always wanted. It's too funny.
"When will you start making sense, Theo?" - an apt summary of this. I loved a lot of this. I also have a lot of BUTS.
Theo isn't generally dim, BUT he "When will you start making sense, Theo?" - an apt summary of this. I loved a lot of this. I also have a lot of BUTS.
Theo isn't generally dim, BUT he is when it comes to Jamie. This man is as oblivious as it gets. He crafted a narrative in his head(Jamie being into Leone) and just ran with it, disregarding all evidence to the contrary.
Theo is generally expressive, BUT cops out a lot when it comes to telling Jamie how he feels. Even at the end, it has to be dragged out of him.
I love a slow-to-get-it MC as much as the next girl, BUT Theo is a discovery. I always hate when an MC needs to have it pointed out to him that he's in love. Fumble all you want, but I NEED you to get it on your own. Focus, people!
Jamie is absolutely a green flag MC, BUT he coddled Theo a bit too much, in a bit too many ways. He mommies him. And judging by his past, this is his MO. I can't wait for them to have kids so he can focus his parental energy on that. He'd make an amazing dad.
These two work great as friends, BUT I didn't feel the sexual chemistry. Okay. Not quite true. I felt it in the before. Before things got physical. The emotional pining they had. Real yearners. But once things got physical, meh. I didn't feel the sparks.
Their sex scenes read like friends with benefits scenes. Which would be okay, given this is what they were telling themselves, and I felt more of the yearning from Jamie(which is honestly wild, given we only had Theo's perspective) but I wanted to feel it from both ends, and I don't feel like I got that.
The love got declared, BUT the process was too drawn out and convoluted. Who makes you wait days? AFTER making you wait months while he played catch-up? Theo. That's who. TELL THAT MAN YOU LOVE HIM, ALREADY!
Yeeish.
I feel like there's so many bits I didn't quite love, BUT I honestly enjoyed the book overall. I couldn't put it down till it was done.
I loved the writing and the humor. Maybe I'll be trying another in this series....more

This one was unexpected but incredibly good. I love how whenever I pick up a book with a British royal, I expect it to be like that one, and I'm always delightfully surprised when it's not. Isn't it amazing when different authors start with the same overall idea and execute it in wildly different ways?
That said, I REALLY want to read one where the MC is the crown prince. No offense to spares, but I want to see how that's spun.
Anyway.
This book was sweet.
"Nothing has ever felt like you."
This book was funny.
"Seriously, you'd be willing to go camping? Not saying I’d even want that, but if I asked, you’d go, right? Christ, you really are completely gone for me."
This book was sappy at times.(complimentary, I swear!)
“Don’t look at me like that,” Leo grumbled. “I know how to compromise.” “Only when it suits you,” Joshua told him, mouth curving up. “It suits me when it makes you happy.”
