“I have a new identity, one I don't want, I just want to go home, to see my sister, to live my life, but I can't. It's all gone. Everyone I ever cared about believes I'm dead.”
This is the second book in the Wrong series and it picks up right where Wrong #1 left off.
We know that Joe has Tor and he is using her as leverage to get to Jude.
“He Fucking Has Her.”
What happen to Tor while she was with Joe broke my heart... It made me ANGRY and it made me CRY!!! Cry a lot, and really hard!!!
If you thought you knew Jude, Tor or Caleb from Wrong, well you were WRONG!!! This is a new Jude and this is a new Tor. And Caleb is Caleb, but that is how we like him!
Jude does everything he can to get Tor back. He shows a side of himself that we did not see in book one, and call me crazy but I liked it.
Once he gets to Tor, she is broken. It may seem as after what she went through in Wrong, that would not be possible, but it is. She has been stripped down to the bare minimum mentally, and she is now a woman on a mission. "He's still my beautiful tragedy, my knight in blooded armour."
Tor is glad to be back with Jude because that is where she is suppose to be, but she is not the same Tor that arrived there. She has been forever changed, and she is now a woman who demands to have her pound of flesh. She is also a woman hiding a secret from the one person who she loves the most.
“I'm no longer the innocent girl he craved so badly. I'm darker than he is. Tainted beyond measure. Everything that happened to me has changed me. I can feel it, like a snake coiled around my neck, this numbness beckoning me into its dark depths, and I embrace it. I welcome it because it means I don't have to feel, and that allows me to survive.”
This book BROKE my heart!!! I mean seriously broke my heart…
[image] I cried, and cried and then I got angry, and I cried some more. By the end, just when I thought I was cried out, I cried some more.
[image] I felt bad for everyone involved. There was a point where I honestly believed that the book could not get any worse and that this was going to go down as one of those books that you read, but you will never read again.
The last 20% of the book was HARD to read!!! I wanted to scream at everyone involved!!! I could not understand for the life of me why everyone was against Tor and Jude being together. Realistically, how was she going to walk away from what had happened to her and integrate back into "normal" society? Her sister, was an absolute BITCH!!!
On the upside, Marney became a favorite character of mine. He was the calm and steady hand that we all need in our life, even when we do not realize it. He was the one person who knew everything, and he did not judge or condemn and when Jude could not be there, he was willing to step up and take his place. He never had an ulterior motive, and he seemed to be happy to simply be part of the family.
(view spoiler)[When they walked through the house in the Caribbean and then the onesie scene, made me fall in love with him!!! (hide spoiler)]
Maybe I believe that love in the worse of circumstances can work or maybe I am simply a sucker for HEA… Either way, my hope for Jude and Tor was to be happy and to make it out of this horrible life and live the good life…
4.5 Sometimes the WRONG choices take us to the right places STARS
Victoria, Tor, Ria is a girl who has everything going for her. She is on the p4.5 Sometimes the WRONG choices take us to the right places STARS
Victoria, Tor, Ria is a girl who has everything going for her. She is on the path to reaching her career goals and she has a boyfriend that she adores. She is a Brit who is now living her idea of the American dream. Then one day, all that changes.
Jude or JP, has never answered to anyone… Not since his mother was killed and his father died. This is not the life he wanted for himself, but he can not let the family down. Not to mention, he is good at what he does. Even if he lives a life of questionable morals, he has lines drawn that he will not cross, until one day when one of his flunkies crosses it for him…
"Your boyfriend owes me money, princess." "How much money?""Twenty grand." "Twenty grand!" I shriek. "What the hell? No wonder you have the hulk after you," I moan. My boyfriend is a lowlife with a gambling problem "Take her!" Euan grabs me by the shoulders and shoves me towards the scary man. "Take Ria as security. I'll bring you the money."
“So you took a human as collateral?”
Jude and Victoria’s lives collide in a way that neither of them could have predicted. From two different sides of the track and the world, these two could not possibly have anything in common. She is well educated and he is a bookie. He takes lives for a living and she saves lives for a living. He is a college drop out and she is a medical student. As predicted, these two do not hit it off. In fact, at one point Jude believes that Victoria is there to spy on him and his operation and then things get real ugly...
After he discovers she really is just an innocent girl, who has been thrown into this horrible situation, his eyes and even his heat open up to her.
"I know she’s in pain. I’ve never felt remorse like this for hurting someone, and I’m finding the guilt slamming its way over me right now to be fucking unbearable. This right here has fucked me in a way I’ve never been fucked. She was good and pure. She was everything I’m not. I took that innocence from her. This girl makes me have a fucking soul, and I can’t have that."
This book made me think… I made me think is Stockholm Syndrome really a thing? Or maybe, we can not imagine falling for our captors, because we have never been captured. Jude was not what everyone thought he was, in fact he was someone who had wanted more, but had a family obligation to fufill. Who hasn't felt that way? And when its only you and someone else in a room, having to lean on one another for support and trust, who says that you can not “fall” for them…
”This is fucking wrong,” I groan against her lips as I yank her sweatpants off. “Everything with you is wrong,” she says, her nails scratching down my neck to my shoulders. Fuck me!
I adored Caleb from the moment we met him. He reminds me of the glimmer of hope or the silver lining to every cloud. You could tell he was not cut out for this life, but again, because he loved his brother and his family, he stuck around. I hope he makes it out before all the bad gets to him and breaks him.
I kinda saw the ending coming. I mean, Jude had to know that Joe was coming for him or Tor or both eventually… But I will admit, it broke my heart…. [image]
I can not tell you how excited I was about this book. I have read the first two books in the series and then pre-ordered this one immediately.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story and I enjoyed Gavin and Mason as a couple. Granted, they were both working through their issues in order to become better men so ultimately they could have a better relationship for themselves.
Gavin's relationship with his mother broke my heart, and seeing his relationship with his dad come full circle was absolutely beautiful. I felt terrible for Mason, but even more so, I hated Issac!!! (He really needed to get a life.)
I will say that I was left feeling like this story isn't over and I did not get the closure I was expecting, nor did I feel like Gavin or Mason got the closure they needed. (Maybe another book is coming and I am just not aware.)
The sex was HOTTT!!!
Also, I was SOOO glad to see Wes and Braden and Jess (I love her!!!) and the progression of their relationship, as well as Noah and Cooper. ...more
Okay, Aly Martinez has done something that I did not believe could be done….
She made me not only feel bad for, but LOVE Sarah Erickson.
This is the third book in the Wrecked and Ruined series and this is Sarah’s side of the story. Sarah has been a pivotal character in the order two books as she was Brett’s wife, Miranda’s best friend, Emily’s sister and possibly the driver the night that everyone’s world was changed forever. In book one, I loathed Sarah, and in book two I opened up to her but only after the truth had been revealed, and in this book I fell for her. I feel like Sarah was simply dealt a bad hand and luckily for her, she was able to shuffle the deck and get her life back in order and begin anew. The setting is 7 years after the accident and Sarah has finally gotten her head back on straight and she is beginning to get back out in the world, including the dating world. Leo is man with a past o his own, so how can he judge someone else’s especially when she is the tall and gorgeous blonde named Sarah Erickson. He starts falling for the Southern transplant but all but too soon realizes that the life and the past he left behind will not stay in the past forever. This story shows how two broken souls can come together and become one and how happiness as well as strength and love can blossom from such a union. It gives you a chance to see that true love sometimes is hard and that sometimes you have to be willing to fight as well as sacrifice but most importantly never give up.
The epilogue was PHENOMENAL and being able to all of your favorite characters and have far that have made it and all they have accomplished gives you a sort of closure and made me smile as I closed my Kindle for the night.
Now would I like to see some of the other characters get their own book or novella, YES!!! Where is Kara and Hunter and how are they fairing? What about Eli and Casey??? ...more

The Chinese believe that there is an invisible red thread that connects you to the people that are meant to meet in your life and that even though the string may become entangled, or entwined it will never break, and that those you are meant to meet eventually you will, no matter the time or the place you are in your life. Casey believes that people are like hooks and bait, and that once the right bait comes along, you will bite the hook and stay forever…
Have you ever done something that you thought would only effect you one time or one night only to have that one thing change your life? If you answered yes, then you can relate to Casey and Blake.
Blake is a woman who basically has it all. A loving family, an adoring boyfriend, and a career she really enjoys. She isn’t looking for anything, but something she wasn’t expecting found her and she was not able to shake it.
Casey is a man who isn’t looking for a long term thing, in fact he is trying to get out of a relationship when we first meet him. Then he runs into a force that he knows he has to have and that he cannot shake.
What happens over the course of Bait felt so real. A girl trying to be what everyone expects her to be, even if its not truly who she is, and a man trying to prove he can be everything she thinks he isn’t. My heart broke for Casey on multiple occasions and at times, I really wanted him to walk away from Blake.
Remember this scene from Notting Hill, well Casey plays Julia Roberts and Blake is Hugh Grant….
My blog is called Mixed Emotions because I think the essence of a really good story is one that even if it doesn’t necessarily end the way you want or if it has a happy ending, you have had moments where you cried (your eyes misted or you at least wanted to), you scream at your book (or Kindle), and you have moments of complete bliss. Well, Ms Mabie nailed it. There were moments when I thought “finally!!”,I was like “Really (mostly directed at Blake)??”
and then moments where I simply sighed.
My hope is that Blake has one of these moments in book 2 and then we can all move on and live happily ever after...

This book was recommended to me *** 5 Good Girls really do get Happily Ever Afters Stars***
“Leave the past behind you so the future can find you.”
This book was recommended to me by a fellow Goodreads memeber, Dee, and it was absolutely AWESOME!!!
Have you ever felt like life just keep dishing you one sucker punch after another?
Maybe you are still trying to figure out who you are and what your place is in this world.
Then this book is for YOU
This is not your typical, teacher student romance, but rather a story that held a lot more substance than that.
Ashlyn is finding herself, which is really hard to do, because she has always been one of two, and now that Gabby, her twin sister is gone, she is simply one of one. She is ALONE. She never thought that she would lose Gabby, but especially not so early in life. She is a good girl. A nerd. She would rather have her nose in a book, but her sister has given her a challenge from the grave, and she can not disappoint Gabby.
“Why didn’t anyone ever throw reading parties? I would be all over that crap.”
Daniel Daniels is only left with the house his parents built and his brother once the actions of one morning turn his world upside down. He has his band and his music, but something is missing... Until he sees HER.
Have you ever simply connected with someone? Looked into their eyes and known, this is where you could find your forever? Maybe it was a quick glance across a crowded room, or first period home room, but once your eyes melt, you never saw anyone else?
Then you know what it would be like to be in love with Mr. Dainels, and why even when she discovers he is her teacher, Ashlyn can not simply walk away.
“He was my golden, and I was his. Forever forever and always always.”
This story broke my heart!!! More than once!!!! I cried and I cried. Then, slowly it began to rebuild it!!! I would recommend Loving Mr. Daniels to everyone!!!!
The main characters were GREAT and so were the supporting characters. I can not hear the name Avery or Ryan without thinking of this book.
“Because I’d never seen two people who loved each other so quietly.”
Bravo Ms Cherry, BRAVO!!!
“Alive. I want to be alive, and I have no idea why, seeing how hideous life is at times. Maybe it's belief, hope, and passion all wrapped into one shape that rests inside my chest. Perhaps my heart is just praying for better tomorrows to replace all those shitty yesterdays.”...more
I have not read the other books in this series, but I was intrigued by the blurb so when I was offered a chance to review it, I jumped on it, and I am so glad that I did.
This book is mainly about Sawyer Bennett and Emmett Louise. Sawyer has a core set of friends who are all in relationships and seem to be extremely happy. He is happy for them, but he spends his time filling his nights with random women, hoping that maybe one day he will find something more….
One night while out celebrating Parker, one of his buddies from previous books, bachelor party, he sees the most awkward stripper ever, and it is her awkwardness that has Sawyer intrigued. You see Sawyer sees something in her that he knows he has to have But after that night, he cant find her no matter where he searches. Life for Emmett has never been easy and after one night of bad decisions, things are about to get a lot harder. She has picked up and moved on, but there are some things that can’t be left in the past and some secrets that she can no keep forever. So when Sawyer Bennett explains how he wants her, she knows that once he knows her whole truth, he won’t any more but she does not want to lose him completely, so she asks him to be her friend…. Little did she know that befriending Sawyer would change her life in so many ways. Sawyer is the kind of guy that daddies’ raise their daughters to date and marry. He had his issues, but we are all human and who hasn’t done some things they regret. I love that he took charge and he loved Emmett even when she wasn’t sure she was able to love herself. I loved how his friends loved her once he brought her in the fold, and I love that they accepted everything that came along with Emmett… (view spoiler)[Her unborn child (hide spoiler)]. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series to find out more about this group!!! I truly enjoyed the style of writing and I was so glad that both Sawyer and Emmett had issues, and it wasn’t a billionaire rescuing the poor damsel in distress story. I also liked how I could relate to these characters… I could have quite possibly went to college when anyone of them. Good job S.E. Hall!!!

I’m so en-captured, got me wrapped up in your touch Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch How do you do it, got me losing every breath Why did you kiss me to make my heart beat out my chest?
Caleb felt like he lost everything that mattered to him one fateful night when what had been a double date night turned into tragedy… 5 years.. Since the accident Since the lose of Manda Since his world changed Since his heart felt UNTIL Emma Erikson misses her sister, the sister that she lost on a back road outside of Chicago… No she didn’t die, but maybe had she died, it would be easier to deal with. Now her sister, who was once the life of the party was depressed and had attempted suicide multiple times, and her latest stunt may just land her in prison, so now it’s time that Emma did what she should have done a long time ago, go take care of her sister, go take care of Sarah. What she finds in Chicago is more than a hurting sister but possibly the love of a man who will change her forever. And she will change him, if he will let her.
Fate is a funny thing. You can never know where it is going to take you, or what it is going to take away from you on this course that you call life. Sometimes there will be dead ends and some u-turns as well as crossroads when you have to decide to let love in and hate out, to tear down some of your walls, and forgive…

This is the second story in the Wrecked and Ruined series and we see many familiar faces, while meeting some new ones. This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend you read the first one as well. This book is beautifully written and it had me turning the pages and staying up all night to know the outcome. There are definitely some things that I did not see coming, but I am glad at where the story ends.

Have you met the person of your dreams? Do you have the rest of your life with this person planned out? What would you do if you lost them? Not to a death, not to another person, but to themselves? Could you move on? Would you move on?
Changing Course is the Story of Detective Brett Sharp and Sarah Sharp, his wife of 7 years and how one faithful night changed the rest of their lives. Brett met Sarah in a bar and he knew he had to get to know her, and once her got to know her, he fell for her Hard. She became his wife and they were happy. Then one night, one split decision, and one tragedy later, Brett lost his wife. Sarah, Case,y and Manda were best friends. They went everywhere together and they shared everything. On the night that Sarah met Brett, Manda and Casey were her wingmen, and they were staple pieces throughout their entire relationship. Until they weren't.
On the night that Brett Sharp lost everything, it had begun as any other night and it ended with one girl dead, one friend heartbroken and his wife trapped within her guilt. Sarah and Manda were in a car accident, and it is assumed that Sarah was the driver, even though she does not remember the accident itself. Over the next several months, Brett tries to help her get over her grief, not just for herself, but because he wants his wife back. He fails, and after three suicide attempts, he decides to give her just what she has been asking for... SPACE.
4 years later... Brett is still holding onto hope that his wife will one day be herself again and they can pick up the pieces and move on... Until he meets Jesse.
Jesse James Addison is a game changer literally. Where Sarah was tall, she is petite, where Sarah was the life of the party, Jesse is shy and timid. Where Sarah is vindictive, Jesse is loving and compassionate. Jesse is a barista at the coffee house that Brett visits every morning with his good friend Caleb, who happens to be Manda's fiancé at the time of the accident. (Did I mention, he hates Sarah and blames her for the accident.) Jesse asks Brett to a Bears game and even though he is hesitant, with the persistence of Caleb, he goes, and his hold world changes....
Brett tells Jesse that he is broken and he can not promise her anything for the future, but Jesse refuse to give up on Brett. There are even a few encounters with Sarah, that have Jesse really wondering if she can see this relationship with Brett through. She gives her all, she is a fighter, not in the I will punch you in your face type of fighter, but the I will be here to remind you how wonderful you are and how great life can be if you just let me in type of fighter. She even says I Love You first.
Finally, Brett comes to his senses and realizes that he loves Jesse and he does not want to live without her... And he tells her, and proves it to her... Then Sarah ha to go and screw things up again...
I wont spoil the story for you, but I truly feel like this is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The characters are real and relatable and the emotions they feel, you feel. There are some sad times in the story, but there are sad times in life and I think that is what makes this feel real. I feel for Jesse, because I can understand her. I understand loving someone who doesn't realize just how loveable they are and how broken they are. I understand standing by someone's side when they can not make you any promises. I understand loving someone else more than they love me. I also understand Brett and his desire to help Sarah, even when it is hurting him. I respect some of Brett's decisions, and don't understand others, but I grew to love him. I definitely loved him with Jesse.
I am excited for the next two books in this series, and I will not be disappointed if Sarah does not make any more appearances (some people do not deserve redemption). I look forward to seeing if Caleb finds his own happiness, and Kara, how can I forget about Kara? I have really high hopes for Kara and her future!!! I can not wait to see Casey and what she has been up to.
If you have not read this book, you should. Aly Martinez is an author to be on the look out for. Favorite Quotes: By the time she finally finished evicting her organs into the toilet, I may have made an agreement with the powers above to name my first born Hephzibah just to make her stop.
"Nah, I'm still seeing Lisa. She would lose her crazy monkey shit if she thought I was even looking at Jesse." "You need to cut that one loose. Preferably before you end up chopped into tiny pieces, buried under her floorboards."
"How about we bet one favor, to be decided upon later." "What kind of favor?" she asks skeptically. "Anything. Who knows this time next week you could be doing my laundry." "Oh, those kind of favors! Okay! I'm in!" She actually squeals in excitement making me a little fearful of her enthusiasm. But as she jumps around clapping her hands, I can’t help but laugh too. God she's beautiful!
"Fine, I don't need details, but you have to at least compare it to a vegetable it resembles. I bet it’s a large zucchini." She smiles, staring off into space lost in her imagination. "If it will make you more comfortable, I'll start. That guy Jason I was seeing last week, was a small carrot. I'm talking the baby ones you dip in ranch dressing." She winks as I stare at her with my lips curled in disgust.
“Yes,” she finally whisper against my lips. It’s more than a word. It’s a life, a future, and more than I will ever deserve. It’s forever.

Have you ever had to make a decision that broke your heart but deep down, at the time, you believ 4.5 I think Cash is my favorite Mayson borther STARS
Have you ever had to make a decision that broke your heart but deep down, at the time, you believed it was for the best.... Did that decision lead you down a path that took you were you never intended to go? Did fate intervene and bring you back to where you belonged? Then, Until Lilly, is the book for you.
Cash Mayson met his one... The girl he was in love with, the girl who made him want a future, with a hose and kids and even a dog. She was the one to make him let go of anyone else. Then Jules, took all that away. Jules was a girl who wanted everything she couldn't have including Cash Mayson. But then she held an ace in her hand and she finally thought she would be able to have what she wanted. Jules got pregnant on purpose. She wanted a Mayson brother and now she was going to get everything she wanted, including having Cash all to herself. Lilly wasn't looking for love, but it found her. Cash Mayson was a force to be reckoned with and there was no way she was going to be able to move on from him. She fell hard. She loved him. And then he broke her. Broke her to her core. She never expected that and then only days later to discover she was pregnant, and he didn't want her or the baby, broke her even more. Then 4 years later as fate would have it, these two would cross paths again and have a lot of catching up to do.... When Cash sees Lilly for the first time in years, he can tell she has changed but he likes what he sees, until he sees a little girl who looks like her mother with eyes that are the same as his son, Jax. When he confronts her and discovers that the little girl is his child, Ashlyn, he decides then and there that he will be in her life and he will win Lilly back. Lilly doesn't know what to believe. Didn't Cash break up with her? Didnt he send the hurtful text messages that changed her life and her love for him forever? If he did all this, how is still in love with her? How is it he wants Ashlyn now? And why did he choose to marry Jules and raise Jax but not be in her life? Jules can not stand the idea of Cash being happy and she not being the source of it. So she is determined to make his life Haitis on Earth and if that means hurting Lilly, Ashlyn and Jax in the process, so be it.
Jax is by far my favorite little boy!!! He did seem older than his age at times but I loved him!!! He was so courageous and sweet, and just plain adorable.
Until Lilly is the story of lost love and hard choices, redemption and how true love never fails. Cash Mayson is by far my favorite Mayson brother. I can honestly say I felt more connected to him and Lilly and their little ones, more than the other brothers.

Dean is supportive, but he still has doubts and feels that its his fault that Olivia is pregnant and it is not planned... but he is prepared to make the best of it, and he is prepared to save his marriage. he doesn't want to Liv, and though the pregnancy was not what he was expecting, he is going to stand by her and be whatever she needs.
Just as things are beginning to go back to normal, Dean has a family emergency that calls him home to California, and though he is resistant, Olivia demands to be brought along and help see him through... Dean's family, doesn't like Olivia, they think she is not right for him,,, And they are still good friends with his ex-wife, Helen. Helen, does seem like the wicked witch of stepwives as I imagined..
While in California, personal tragedy strikes them, and Dean feels like once again, he has let Liv down, and the person who helps her, is the one person no one expects.
Dean is also dealing with matters that make cause him to lose his career... Maggie Hamilton comes back with a vendetta.
Olivia proves her strength in this book... She proves she is Dean's partner and all though she likes being saved, she is ready and willing to go to battle along with him as well as for him...
“Okay, professor.” She squeezes my hands and takes a deep breath. “Let’s get ready for defense. Pull up the drawbridge, boil the oil, station crossbows along the allure.”.... “The allure is a passage behind the parapet of a castle wall. Great for defense when the enemy is approaching. You know you’re safe on the allure.” She tucks her head beneath my chin, twining her hand with mine. “Like we’re safe with each other.” “No doubt about it, beauty.” I press my face against her sweet-smelling hair. “You’ll always be my allure.”
This book is told in dual POV, and it was interesting to go down memory lane with both Dean and Olivia, especially Dean and when he remembers falling in love with Olivia.
“You know I’m not much of a romantic.” He looks at me. “But that semester, even I had to admit it was more than just a coincidence.” “What was?” “The fact that I was studying the perfect harmony of the stars and planets at the exact same time I was falling in love with you.” I can only stare at him. I can’t even speak. Until this moment, I didn’t know it was possible to love my husband even more than I have for the past five years. I didn’t know this kind of love existed, the kind that can both make you whole and shatter you to pieces.
Again, this book deals with real marriage problems, and they don't simply go away. Dean is hurting and so is Olivia. The book ends on a somber note... I don't know where Ms. Lane is going to go next, but I have high hopes for these 2.
“I’ll be here, Dean, love of my life.” I tighten my hand around his. “I’ll be waiting for you.”
My only hang up about this novel, at times it felt very similar to Gabriel's rapture... but I guess, as a male professor, there are only so many things can get you in trouble....more
Christ, Liv, sometimes the way you look at me makes me feel like I can hang the fucking moon.” “Because I’ve always believed you can.”
This is the story of Dean and Olivia... They are a married couple who has been married for 3 years, but they have been together for 5 years. They have faced up hill battles and made it to the other side... Olivia sees dean as her knight and shining armor and what's more fitting of a title for a medieval professor.
Then one little scare turns there marriage on it head... And it makes Olivia begin to wonder about her marriage, herself and what she believes...
There were moments when I jut knew this book was not going in the direction I had hoped, but what I liked about this book, was that it felt "real". it wasn't this "we met eyes and were in love", no it was "we have a great relationship, one that we work hard for, and one that sometimes is not as great as we want it to be." Also, there issues were real... They are a young married couple dealing with life and trying to figure out where do we go next...
The End, well lets just say I am glad that I have book 2 on stand by...

These Freaks are not the Freaks from down under, and it is clear by their actions, these Freaks are developing and they are becoming more human like everyday. At one point, Deuce is confronted by one of these new Freaks, and he wants to cease the fighting just as much as she does, and Deuce must make a decision to align with the new Freaks in order to beat the horde of old Freaks. The battle that ensues, many believe can not be won, but Deuce and Fade are unwilling to go down without a fight... They must at least try.
There was a lot of worry that Fade and Deuces relationship would not survive his capturing in Outpost and his PTSD, but deuce refuses to let Fade go... She believes in their love even when he doesn't.... She makes sure that she tells him and shows him that her love is unwavering, and it prevails. I truly enjoyed seeing their relationship unfold, and I am truly glad they got their HEA. (view spoiler)[ Their first time the night before the battle... So sweet... And Deuce's inter dialogue, priceless. (hide spoiler)] If there were ever two characters that deserved a HEA, its these two. I also enjoyed seeing Deuce develop. She is no longer simply a Huntress, but rather a fully developed and rounded young woman who knows her priorities and is willing to do whatever it takes to get them.
"I feared a love like this. That made us incomplete without each other. It was beautiful but treacherous like snow that looked white and pure and lovely from the safety of your window, but when you stepped out to touch the softness, the cold first stole your breathe, and then your will to move, until you could just lay down in it and let the numbness take you."
I also enjoyed seeing Fade, find himself again. Fade doesn't want to bring deuce or the mission down by his fear of not being enough. Fade proves himself multiple times over and slowly regains the person he had lost. He proves his love for Deuce as well even when he is unable to actually show it.... "Though his arms remained at his side, Fade whispered, "this is me holding you, and this is me kissing you for good luck." When Fade thought the Horde had taken Deuce, he was ready to go to war even though he knew they could not win. he was not completely whole by the end, but that is the reality of going through something that traumatic, it changes you and you may never be able to go back to who you are 100%, and thats okay. He does his best to be everything Deuce needs and more.
We are introduced to several new characters including Gavin, Morgan, Colonel, Morrow, Spence and Tully. I absolutely loved Gavin. He broke my heart and put it back together again. Morrow also won my heart, he was Deuce except he was older and more well traveled. We saw more of Rex, and Momma Oaks and Edmund, who makes sure that Fade does right by his little girl, are here as well. And we were reunited with some old friend as well (one of the best surprises of the series).
There is some tragedy in this novel, I mean they are at war. but the tragedy, is redeeming en nature, and though we lose a friend(s), it is done in a way that makes you feel okay and understand it was necessary.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes dystopias or young adult novels. Ann Aquirre knows how to write a novel and give you everything you need.
Side note: Ann Aquirre should really give some lessons to Veronica Roth on how to wrap up a series as well as self sacrifice. I got more out of this novel on the concept of self sacrifice than I did in Allegiant.
"If this is the last time, let me say it so you never forget. I will always love you, Deuce. No matter where souls go, mine will be looking for you, Solnyshko Moyo. No. I want a promise instead. Promise you'll fight like you never have, so when the dying stops, you'll be on your feet looking for me here. I swear."...more
