And it was a good read. The Christmas Murder Game is a nice little murder mystery read to get you in the thrilling mood for the festive season. There was some likeable characters and a whole bunch of unlikeable characters. I did guess early on who the culprit was and some of the twists were quite predictable for me, but I still enjoyed the drama of it all! The clues and riddles spread out in the book was cute also. Forewarning that the characters are not fully developed and very one dimensional. Its also told in third person, which sometimes takes away from me feeling a connection to the character/s. It was about 80 pages too long, but it did read very much like a modern day mystery festive read....more

This is my first K.L slater book and I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. I think her books would be great as a filler read after reading a heavy book. I am not opposed to checking out her other novels.
‣Repetition with more repetition, with another big scoop of repetition. ‣The characters were so draining and annoying beyond belief ‣ Far Fetched and dragged on in some places ‣ The constant jumping in timelines made it quite confusing at times
Beartown is the place where everyone breathes, eats and sleeps Hockey

Okkkk so when I saw the blurb to Beartown I was very intrigued. I haven't read a book centering around hockey or any sports culture before but I've enjoyed two of Backman's other books (Anxious People and And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer) so I thought why not? Now I knew there was going to be some hockey in this but DAMN it felt like it was nothing but Hockey! The first 20 chapters is very slow with a lot of character development. and when I say a lot of characters, I mean it. There was just TOO MANY!! Personally for me the issue I find with books that has way too many characters is I struggle to care enough, and when I start caring less, the book then stops resonating with me in a way. When we finally get to the serious incident of the book, for me it felt rushed and undeveloped. I was told and not shown how the characters felt, so I felt forced upon what my reaction and feelings should be. I felt like I was being bashed over the head with way to many people's opinions that I didn't care for. I wanted more focus and attention on the aftermath of the victim.
The thing with Mr Backman is the guy just knows how to write, and he writes well. Taking away all the hockey and over populated characters, the book does demonstrate how human beings are not perfect and how quick you can go from loving/ liking a person to thinking the absolute worst of them. There are two more books in these series and I don't know why but I feel inclined to finish this Beartown journey....more

Firstly I highly urge that if you choose to read this book (you should), then please check the TW!!! Grown grabbed my attention in a way I'm finding hard to articulate, but I just wanted to cocoon Enchanted in a safe bubble and protect her at all costs! Grown is a backwards mystery about a 17 year old girl called Enchanted who wants to be a singer and ends up embroiled with a famous singer named Korey Fields, who pretty much abuses and grooms her. The book begins with Enchanted waking up next to a deceased Korey and we go between past and present chapters figuring out if Enchanted is to blame and also the backstory of how everything came to be. The author in her notes has said that this book has nothing to do with the R.Kelly case, and is only slightly inspired by. But personally I couldn't distinguish between this not being the case. Enchanted felt like a voice piece for R. Kelly's victims. This was also catergorised as a thriller, and for me it didn't feel that way. It read more like a contemporary fiction with some twists (in true Tiffany D Jackson style). Grown was such a hard read. It really showcased how women's voices are not paid attention too and how the media is so quick to vilify young Black Women who end up in these situations by labelling them as 'asking for it' or for them being too 'fast', instead of actually condemning the perpetrator! Grown missed the full 5 star mark for me because of the representation of mental illness in this book. I didn't feel like it was handled fully correctly and the use of it in one particular plotline made absolutely no sense to me and when it was eventually explained... I was even more dissatisfied! All in all I would recommend this book, as it does convey an important message and conversation about how girls can easily be groomed and how the system seems to protect the abusers.

The cabin in the woods is one of those books I would highly advise to go into blind! From the get go it was given Tension, suspense, shock and a bit of heartbreak! The chapters switch from past to present, and I damn near gave myself a paper cut steaming through these pages! Granted it did start to come to a mini halt when all was starting to reveal and I was like “argh not this played out trope again”...more
