In Girls in Tears, just when i thought the girls couldn't get more idiotic with their foolishness, they up the ante in the last book.
Ellie is being a complete walkover and allowing her 'friends' to outrageously disrespect her. Magda is crying over her deceased hamster and using that as an excuse to be a bad friend Nadine has no concept of stranger danger and is talking to the 'love of her life' on the internet, even though she has no idea what he looks like.
Honestly this was my least favourite in the series. It's like everyone was regressing and lacking common sense. Same mistakes with repeated dialogue and the way the book ended was so irritating.
This book reminded me why i couldn't stand Magda's ass, and to be honest Nadine too was p!ssing me all the way off. Ellie is such a walkover and it was giving me second hand embarrassment. I really wish she would ditch these girls and start anew.
I hope the new book show these three in a new light and they have all wised up, but something tells me there is only going to be more drama! LOL

The trio is back in the third of the series and our girl Ellie has finally bagged herself a guy who is completely into her and her only. We follow Ellie swooning over Loverboy Russel, Nadine dealing with past boy woes and Magda dealing with a mega crush on her art teacher.
Whew pass me an aspirin, because this third book was a HEADACHE! Honestly all of the girls were so silly and reckless in this one and I just wanted to bang all their heads together. Stranger Danger was not even a concept in this storyline, and they were all running towards Red Flags like it just came into fashion!
Now I can give a bit of compassion when it comes to the girls because they are just teens after all and are bound to make mistakes after mistakes, but you know who really irked me in this book?... THE PARENTS! Ellie’s dad, stepmom Anna and Nadine’s mother all need a SLAP! Frankly they were behaving worse than the girls and it was shocking to read.
Ellie’s dad conversing with Ellie about him and Anna’s relationship was so annoying to me. Why did he feel like that was a suitable conversation to have with his preteen daughter.
Then Anna throwing all caution to the wind and letting Ellie go and be gallivanting out and alone with a boy she barely knows was mind numbingly panful to read. Anna I know you are trying to be a “cool stepmom” or whatever but ARE YOU DUMB!?. No common sense whatsoever!
The girls were extremely boy hungry in this book and it was slightly nauseating to read, because I know for a fact younger me was probably just as bad and obsessed! LOL There is one more book left in the series and I’m heading to read it straight away because I’m too excited to read the new release (Think Again) of the girls now in their 40s. I wonder how life has shaped them! Again, I am not rating this series, as I’m only reading to remember the characters and the issues they dealt/ went through and for nostalgic purposes.

Girls under pressure is the second book in the four part Girls In Love Series. In this book the girls are dealing with the pressure of their bodies. Nadine wants to be a model and is having issues pursuing this career. Ellie is struggling with body dysmorphia and thinks she’s fat and Magda is having issues with boys and how they physically perceive her. IT’S A LOT
This book is targeted for teens but it should really come with trigger warnings because this was not an easy read. It was hard reading Ellie going through the struggles of her weight. Even her friend Zoe’s story was tough. It was emotional to read because I know in today’s times with social media, the pressure for young girls to look ‘perfect’ is at an all time high.
Jacqueline for me tackled the book in how I would presume most young girls would view themselves. I can admit that I was overly critical about my looks and weight when I was younger and I’m very confused as to why because I was very lean and athletic. But we always think we can look better or want to change certain parts of body even if fundamentally there is nothing wrong with us, right?
It was a very sensitive and interesting read, that again had me glued in. I will say that the ending felt rushed, and a resolution came way to quickly, which realistically I don’t think it would be that simple due to the severity of the issue.
Jaqueline's book’s always feel like a life lesson. This book reminds you to not compare yourself to other people and to love yourself just how you are.
Again, I am not rating this series, as I’m only reading to remember the characters and the issues they dealt/ went through and for nostalgic purposes.

Jacqueline Wilson has come out with a new book Think Again which follows the lives of our 90s girlies Ellie, NadAll in my nostalgic feeeeeeeeeeeeeeels
Jacqueline Wilson has come out with a new book Think Again which follows the lives of our 90s girlies Ellie, Nadine and Magda. My sweetheart of a partner is so cute that he decided to buy me the Girls in Love series, so I could binge one of my fave childhood books before reading the new release.
Girls In Love is narrated by Ellie talking about the going ons in her life/ friendships. In this book, her childhood best friend Nadine has got a boyfriend and frankly Ellie is envious. It doesn't help when immediately after her other best friend Magda gets a boyfriend too and Ellie is now compelled to lie and say she also has a boyfriend. We watch the dynamics of the girls navigating a new era of boys and how it affects them all.
OMG i am so grown grown now. When i read this book YEARS ago i felt like i was a part of the girls friend group, now reading, i feel like that sneaky auntie who has 'stumbled' upon her nieces diary and is snooping trying to get all the gossip and figuring out what goes on in a young girls mind. I still the remember the personalities of the three girls in this book and being older now my feelings and mindset has changed slightly towards them.
⋆。°✩Magda⋆。°✩ I don't know about you but I couldn't stand Magda when i was younger. I thought she was a pretentious know it all, that was boy hungry and so uber focused on her looks. But reading now, she is still that way in a sense but i can see that she does love her friends and has a caring nature to her. We all know that one person that does 'way too much' but deep down has a big heart. I see now this is Magda.
⋆。°✩Ellie⋆。°✩ Bless her! I think i used to compare myself to Ellie because she always felt like an outcast to her super glamourous/ pretty friends and was high key very unconfident. Adult me now wants to shake myself and Ellie and say that we are perfect just the way we are and everyone has insecurities. The more we get older the less we start stressing about unnecessary sh!t! I want Ellie to not keep putting her friends on a higher pedestal than herself and realize that they are all her equals.
⋆。°✩Nadine⋆。°✩ The middle man. She's likeable and adaptable to whomever she is around. I really empathise with her in this book, because wasn't we all a little boy crazy in our teens years and wanted to impress these twats even though they didn't deserve it. She is young and going through the motions and should give her self a little more grace and not be too hard on herself.
I really enjoyed reading book 1 again and I'm amazed on how well Jacqueline can write coming of age stories for young girls. I am not going to be rating the Girls In Love series, as i am simply reading them to remember the characters and the issues they dealt/ went through and for nostalgic purposes.

When Jacqueline released that she was coming out with an adult novel on one of my childhood favourite books I was soooo buzzed. The GIRLS series was such a favourite of mine when I was younger. To be honest all of her books were amazing, but The Girls and Tracy Beaker series were my TOP favourites.
I quickly binged the four previous books and then snuggled up for Think Again. The disappointment and confusion on my face when I started reading and by page 3 I had to quickly look up whether this book was actually meant to be an adult fiction or YA. It was just so JUVENILE! Honestly Ellie did not read like a woman stepping into her 40s! She really came across as very young minded with no awareness.
The way she spoke about Nadine and Magda was the exact same way she was speaking about them when she was fourteen years old. Listen I love my best friend to death but the over gushing/ reminding us how important they were to her and wanting to get their opinion on every minute thing in her life was slightly cringe and childish.
I just couldn’t gel with 40-year-old Ellie. In terms of Nadine and Magda. I’m not sure why they were in even in this book. There was no real detail and exploring of their adult selves. It seems that Magda was the only one who had changed slightly from childhood. Nadine was the same old Nadine, and the lack of character development was a shame to read. I know the Girls series has always been told in Ellie’s narrative, but it would have been nice to get some chapters in Nadine's and Magda’s POV.
Although it was nice to read about how all the other side characters from the Girls series were doing. I think the nostalgia should have started and finished at the party.
When it comes to the plot, it read very young and predictable to me. I knew exactly where the book was heading, and it didn’t thrill me. Not only did it not thill me, but some of the outcomes also felt very farfetched and rushed. How the book ended also frustrated me.
There were so many directions this book could have go in. There is so many adult dramas and situations that could have been spoken on, but I just felt like a read a book about a 14 year old stuck in a 40 year old body.
It’s hard to review without giving spoilers so I will do so below, but overall, this unfortunately was a miss for me.

My issues with the book
➽ Of all the people Ellie had to find herself in a relationship with, why does it have to be her old Art teacher Mr. Windsor. I mean come on, it’s very weird, (not so much about age differences) because it’s obvious their relationship would not work. This man used to teach you and your friends when you were a pre-teen, his going to still view you in that same way in some capacity and it just felt too icky. Especially that scene when he intruded in the girl’s dinner and started talking about them being his “favourites” back in school… EWWWWWW
➽ Ellie’s relationship with Alice. I could tell from the swimming pool scenes and going to get a tattoo instantly with someone you just met 10 minutes ago that both women were going to end up together. I love that. But I would have preferred reading about Ellie realizing that she might be into women and then embarking on this new Sapphic slow burn romantic journey with Alice. Her relationship with Mr. Windsor just felt like a forced filler from the get-go. Then the whole situation of Alice telling Ellie she has a crush on someone else and Ellie acting all dense was so irritating!
➽The whole Ellie has a stalker and who it was, was so unwarranted and unnecessary.

Listen I don’t think I can stress enough how BORED I was reading this. Nothing was happening! The characters are all unlikeable and a drag to read about and the entertainment finally arrives at the last 10% of the book. Why didn’t you DNF you ask? I know, I really wished I had, but I have this issue called FOMO and for some reason I truly thought it might eventually get better… IT DIDN’T.
I didn’t guess the twist but not because it was cleverly done, it’s just that I wasn’t paying the book significant attention for me to even catch on.
The story was moving at a snail pace and everyone’s BS felt so redundant and repetitive. I wanted a thrilling domestic drama but all I got was a boring couple with mundane side characters making me want to tear my hair out in frustration.
As I said the last 10% was when the book became entertaining but I’m talking like mildly entertaining, I wasn’t grabbing my invisible pearls in shock by any means, but I did give it my full attention and when it was all done, I shrugged my shoulders and loudly sighed.
I need to quickly jump into another book instantly as I fear this book will evoke a reading slump out of me!

This book starts of hot and heavy and we are getting into the crux of the drama immediately! We have 10 students and 4 teachers who are off on a school day trip and the parents wave them off. But now its pick up time and the parents are waiting and waiting till they cant wait anymore and realize that something serious must have happen because the school bus has not returned. We are now thrown into the whirlwind of most of the students affluent parents and let me tell you they are all hiding a secret or two! Are these secrets connected to the disappearance? We have to continue reading too see! EEEEK!
I love a book that gets straight into the drama and throughout the book we find out more and more about how the puzzle might fit. I was a bit confused for a hot minute because we have A LOT of characters in this book but around the halfway point I figured who was who and who their spouse was. NOW if you ask me who their children were, I don’t have a Scooby Doo bar one family! Looooool!
Now the DRAMA in this book was SCANDALOOOOOOOOUS, and I had my extra large popcorn while eating this all up! Every time I wanted to put the book down, I just couldn’t, I needed one more chapter and more juicy gossip! Most of the twists and reveals are easily guessable which is fine because I was having such a good time but the big reveal about what happened to the students and teachers had me throwing my head back while doing a major eye roll! LIKE ARE YOU FOR REAL!???? I mean I know this fictional and we can make anything up but at least make it just a little bit plausible!
The reveal had me soooo gutted because this truly could have been a five star read. But everything that happened thereafter had me grimacing and cringing and I was over it! I don’t mind a crazy, implausible twist (*cough*A majority of Freida McFadden books) in my reads but you have to make it exciting and have me shouting STFU in AWE and not DISGUST!
The police procedural was a whole joke in itself! There is a particular scene towards the ending that was so barbaric, I nearly spat my coffee out! CAN YOU ALL BEHAVE!? Even though I did enjoy the detective’s characters particularly Sadie, I couldn’t take their whole investigation seriously whatsoever! The parents even with their ‘Lifetime’ drama are not memorable and will be forgotten from my noggin in like under 24 hours, but while reading about them they were entertaining, privileged and annoying.
⋆。°✩WHAT I LIKED⋆。°✩ ➽ Audacious characters ➽Even paced ➽ Plenty of twists (although some easily guessable) ➽ Writing Style ➽ Difficult to put down
⋆。°✩WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE⋆。°✩ ➽ The police investigation ➽ Underwhelming reveal/ ending ➽ Very Far-Fetched motives (not in a good way)
So minus the absurd underwhelming reveal and ending, I did have a good time. Suspension of disbelief is a necessity for this one! This is a first from this author and truthfully, I am excited to read more of her backlist.

This is my third Robyn Harding book, and she’s one of those authors that writes good thrillers. They are not overly phenomenal, but they pass enough to satisfy you somewhat.
The Haters is about single mum Camryn who has just published her first novel. She is on top of the world, she has an amazing daughter, boyfriend and friends who are so proud and happy for her. Her bubble soon pops when she is goes online and sees that someone has written a 1 star review about her book and is also slandering Camryn name. En suite the herd and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon hate train. But it doesn’t stop there. The original hater gets more nasty and things turn deadly and Camryn needs to catch the culprit before its too late.
WELP! This started off so strong and then quickly became a snooze fest! There was something about Camryn that I just didn’t particularly care for and you already know what happens when I don’t have any emotions towards the characters (that’s right… you lose my interest in the whole story). There was so many suspects in this book with most of them being Camryn’s friends and I just wanted her to be more socially aware and ditch the people in her life! As a school counsellor I was expecting her to be a bit more smart, but she just came across as naggy and irritating.
Honestly this book waffled on and on and I just wanted it to hurry up and reveal the culprit. The reveal was sooooo underwhelming I wanted to cry because I felt like I wasted my time for such an anticlimactic ending.
Although it was a miss for me, I do have to say that Ms Harding is a good writer. Her work is not complicated and confusing. I enjoy how her short chapters are always titled to something preluding to what we are about to read and she does create just enough suspense to want you to keep going but for me they are never memorable.

Bright Young Women although not explicitly said is clearly a retelling of the TB murders. The difference in this book is not only is the accused not referred by his name and instead named as ‘The Defendant’ but the book solely focusses on the victims and survivors of that despicable thing.
It was so hard to rate this book because I enjoy reading and hearing about True Crime stories, but it 90% usually hammers on the perpetrator and figuring out why they did what they did. I loved how with this book we were only paying attention to the women and giving them a well-deserved voice. The issue is I struggled a lot with the writing. It felt very disjointed and confusing at times and that deterred me from connecting as much with the characters unfortunately.
I’m aware of the TB murders and know the story well. This book flipped the story, and I learnt about new things I wasn’t aware of before. The problem with this is I’m not sure if its accurate or not because some of the events/ names of survivors were true but it was also mixed in with fictional characters and this also played a part in confusing me and detaching me from the book slightly. All in all I’m glad this story was told, vocalizing women’s voices only. The media should take note from this novel and stop glorifying POS!

Take a shot every time you said ‘Perfect, Perfect, Perfect’
One of my favourite all time authors Lisa Jewell, has taken a turn with her books and has Take a shot every time you said ‘Perfect, Perfect, Perfect’
One of my favourite all time authors Lisa Jewell, has taken a turn with her books and has entered the Marvel Multiverse with her new release.
In Breaking the Dark, we are following Jessica Jones who is a retired superhero now Private Investigator. One morning she gets a knock on her door from distraught mother Amber who is concerned about her twin teenage kids who came back home from the summer at their fathers in the UK and are now acting very weird. She doesn’t think its normal teenage behaviour and believes something sinister has happened to them. She begs for Jessica to investigate and get to the bottom of the mystery.
JESSICA JONES TO THE RESCUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok so I am not really a Marvel fan to be honest, so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this story. But Lisa reminded me why I am such a massive fan of her work because her writing is captivating. Lisa knows how to write characters and most importantly writes them so well that you genuinely care about what they are doing and stay rooting for them. Her characters are not perfect, they all have their flaws, strengths and weaknesses and its easy to relate to them.
Lisa created great intrigue and suspense with this book, and I was eager to go along the ride with Jessica to find out what was happening with the kids. It didn’t feel gimmicky and comical (ironic I know) and it was so easy to picture the scenes and atmosphere in my head.
This was more than a book of superheroes flying around everywhere and trying to catch the big bad villain. I read about loneliness, insecurities, greed and people striving for ‘perfection’.

Sophie does not trust her and will do everything it takes to stop this homewrecker from trying to break her family apart.
If you are a lover of slow burns, then this book is right up your alley. For me the first quarter of the book was cementing and fleshing out the characters. We get overly familiarized with each family member and get an idea of how cracks are forming in the home.
Our main character Sophie had me stressed out! I kept shouting for her to ‘do this or do that’ and as much as I was rooting for her, she at times grated on my last nerves. But I can’t be too mad at her because babygirl was being GASLIGHTED like no other!
Just as I was trying to digest one information… BOOM a whiplash twist came out of nowhere! I was being bamboozled left right and centre. I did not predict the ending and I love that, but I am also slightly peeved because it was extremely farfetched and ludicrous that it kind of ruined the semi ‘realistic’ aspect I had originally felt from the book.

Aaaah having met this author in my local Waterstones, she was soooo lovely i really wanted to support her work. Sadly i had to hit the case of 'Its not you, its me'. I really struggled to get into this story as Jane as an amateur sleuth just bored me and i struggled to maintain concentration with the storyline. I love Historical Fiction but maybe taking it back to the 18th century is just too historical for me. It was a little bit repetitive and it just felt like Jane was accusing any and everyone in this book so it didn't really entertain me. Although a low rating for me, its more purely down to my preference and taste and not that i think its a total bad book.

What happened to Nina starts of immediately with Nina giving us a backstory about her relationship with Simon. They come across as the cutest couple who are so love. They go away to Simons family cabin in Vermont, but Simon returns back alone. What happened to Nina and how far will parents go to protect their child.
This book captivated me from the get-go. If you watch a lot of crime documentaries, podcasts etc, were so used to getting the whole backstory, middle and ending. But this book provided more of a personal scope as we are witnessing the day by day affects of a young woman missing and watching through a lens and first POV from both family’s perspective.
This is not your typical mystery thriller. What happened to Nina is revealed in the early chapters. This read more like a case study into the minds of parents and police detectives when trying to solve a missing case.
I listened to this story through audio and the narration was really presented well. Each character’s personality shone through, and I had a reaction to each and every one of them. The book is tremendously easy to get through and will have you cursing and shouting up and down. My only downfall for the book would be the ending. Although deserved and satisfying, the whole conclusion fell semi flat for me. Maybe it was rushed a little?

Ok so having read Yellow Wife first by this author i was nervous to pick this one up and braced myself for again another heartbreaking read. Although this one is heartbreaking, it flowed so effortlessly and was intertwined with romance that i truly just couldn't put it down! I was being told a story of two courageous women but was also experiencing what a lot of black women must've gone through back in the 50s and before that and to be honest even today! I absolutely loved Ruby and Eleanor story, and although i knew where the story was heading, i didn't care. Ms Johnson writing is so addictive and entrancing you cant get enough of the characters.

This woman covers book revolving around, racism, colorism, prejudice, class, power, abuse and marriage and does it so effortlessly well it has you reeling for a long time afterwards.
