I loved this book. It's fast-paced and humorous, but also poignant. There are some really tense moments that had me on the edge of my seats. I would have gave it five if the love scenes were a little more steamy and description like they deserve to be because Kenya and Cam had fantastic tension together.
This might be weird to say, but this kind of felt like a coming of age book. In a way. She has never committed to anything long-term, changing her major multiple times, changing careers. People just don't take her seriously, and she doesn't take herself seriously either. She can always fall back on family to take care of her and to help her out of the newest pickle she's found herself in. But this time, her parents are fed up with her shenanigans when she botches her wedding planning business. They issue her an ultimatum. Eve is determined to prove herself this time when she interviews for a chef job at an inn in a small village. The interview goes horribly wrong as the inn owner might be a hot looking guy, but his personality is the exact opposite. cold and difficult. Yet another failure under her belt compounds when she accidentally runs him over with her car, leading to his broken leg. Now Eve feels compelleed to stay and take care of Jacob out of guilt. In the process, Eve learns a lot about herself and realizes that Jacob is more than meets the eye. And Jacob learns that maybe he can trust someone to stay.
I kept thinking I wouldn't like this book as much. I didn't have that instant affinity for it as I did with Chloe, and Dani's books. At one point, my rating was down to the threes, but this was happily one of those situations where hanging in there allowed the book to find its footing, and it crept it's way into my affections.
Eve is really an infectious character. Her love of life, her bubbly personality and her innate kindness and positive, bountiful energy make up for her shortcomings. In the scheme of things, her supposed lack of immaturity didn't really both me that much. I personally think being in your twenties is about exploring life and learning from experiences. Yes, her frequent changes in degrees and profession wasn't ideal, but she's basically independently wealthy (she has a trust fund). Honestly, if I was wealthy, I'd be a perpetual student because I would love to keep learning different things and getting degrees. I think her shortcomings are really strengths, depending on how you look at it. I really loved how Hibbert creates so much depth in Eve. While she seems flighty on the surface, it's clear through the unfolding story that she has so much to offer, and sometimes people are rootless until they find the right place to plant themselves and grow.
Jacob character was so layered. He does come off as a jerk, if you don't understand or make room for his neurodivergence and his abandonment issues. I think his POV was crucial to understand him. I loved that he had his close friend/brother from a different mother who helped to ground him, and was in his corner. Hibbert excel at writing chatty dialogue that feels so family and adds so much to the story. Like the two other leads in this series, Jacob has his share of trauma which he needs to work through, so it's not just about Eve's journey of self-discovery, but Jacob coming to terms with his past hurts and opening up his life to the possibilities of a healthy romantic relationship.
There was a lot more focus on the sexuality in this book, but I think it fitted this particular love story. This one's definitely spicy. I really appreciated how they found each other deeply sexy, and Eve didn't have any hangups about being plus size. She was confident about her looks. Jacob is drop dead gorgeous (he's super sexy in his looks although his personality seems to be offputting), and from the beginning, Eve is definitely his ideal type of woman. It's really nice to see a book where a plus size heroine is considered a desirable woman without any qualifiers.
I loved the food descriptions. Eve has been a cook and baker throughout the series. It was nice to see her strut her stuff in her own book. I would eat anything this girl cooked. I also love books where you see the characters growth. It was so much fun watching Eve discover that she was capable of (and seeing that all along, she had all these skills and accomplishments she never gave herself credit for.
It was sad to see this series come to an end, but it was also great to see all the characters in a good place. I never get tired of Chloe and Red cameos, and we also got to see Dani and Zafir as an established, cemented couple. I also loved that Eve's family is there for her when she really needs them, although she is also able to acknowledge that she can succeed on her own in life.
**I highly recommend the audiobooks. The narrator is excellent. She's the icing on the cake for these books.
I'd give this book at 4.5/5.0 stars.

I read this shortly after I finished Get a Life, Chloe Brown, and it's a completely different kind of love story, but that makes sense as Dani is veryI read this shortly after I finished Get a Life, Chloe Brown, and it's a completely different kind of love story, but that makes sense as Dani is very different from her sister, and her approach to life and point-of-view is very distinct. I honestly didn't connect to Dani in the same way as I did to Chloe. Having said that, I became very engaged in Dani's story and it really helped to see her viewpoint in so many ways. Dani seems really tough and edgy, very confident, but interestingly, she is quite vulnerable. The choices she makes are not always decisive, but quite a few are reactionary and have put this very free spirit in a box in ways that one would not think was possible. She was so funny and silly, but also really brilliant. I really came to care about her. She's basically a big marshmallow with bad bitch energy.
I'd be lying if I didn't admit I fell in love with Zafir first. I had never heard of the term "cinnamon roll hero" until 2021 (from Booktube), but I mean, if those haven't been my favorite heroes since forever, other than lethal heroes (who are soft for their heroine)? Well Zafir fits the bill to the tee. He's a big and scary looking guy, but he is the biggest sweetheart on earth. He's so caring and I loved, loved his interactions with his family--mom, sister-in-law, and niece. He would probably move the earth for them (he probably could, he's a very big strong guy). A former professional Rugby player, he's been hiding from life since a tragic loss, and nursing a crush on Dani (seeing her come through the hallway everyday is the highlight of his day). When people think they're dating, they're thrown together in a way that gives them both a chance to explore the sexual chemistry on both sides, but it is much more than that. It's an opportunity to feel valued and be in a comforting relationship. Also, Dani, who has not believed in relationships for reasons can experience what it's like to be cherished by someone who wants more from her than just an orgasm.
When I was listening to this book, I could see a lot of self-sabotage in Dani. She's brilliant and capable, but it's like her self-confidence hides a lot of vulnerability and she's taught herself not to need or expect better from others. In the process, she's also hurt people who care about her. Sometimes she frustrated me with her choices and her blindness about things. But she definitely grew as a person, which I appreciated.
Zafir also had to grow in some ways. He had some healing to do. Zafir had so much to offer and he was continuing to punish himself for something that wasn't his fault. His family and friends could see that, and wanted more for him. He just couldn't see it for himself. I was happy to see Zafir finally realize that he had the freedom to be happy.
I was happy to see the development of the loving, deep relationship between Dani and Zafir. They had a friendship that naturally became more, and sex was part of it, but not the most important thing, which was good, since Dani had a series of relationships that were just about sex. While both needed to grow, I didn't feel like either was saving each other, but in the process of relating to each other, they were growing as people for their own self-actualization. Having said that, being in relationship contributed to them both being happy and loved.
Like Chloe's book, there is plenty of laugh out loud humor, a lot of situational humor, and lovely interpersonal exchanges between Dani and Zafir and the people in their lives they love. I really appreciated having two main characters who are very diverse. Dani is upper class, highly educated (PhD), Black British, pagan, plus-sized, bisexual and Zafir is a Pakistani Muslim son of immigrants who is quite the momma's boy (in the best way).
This book was definitely worth the read. The narrator is the same from the first book, and I love her voice. I cheered when Chloe and Red were in this book (I unapologetically am president of their fan club). I also loved that Dani has her supportive sisters and family and her friend Sorcha in her corner, just like Zafir has his family and good friend in his. Also appreciated the bonding moments with his team of kids he is teaching rugby to. The steamy times were great, but for me, I think they are going more towards spicy territory than my personal tastes. It makes sense for Dani's personality , and I have to say that Zafir is one hot dude! I would love to see who they cast for them if a movie is ever made (pretty please!).

So being able to write a coherent review wasn't in my wheelhouse at the time. I'm sure that other reviews have recapped this book so much better than I can at this point, so I won't spend much time on that. Instead I will talk about my relationship with the book.
I read this out of curiosity because I heard a review saying it was really good, and I liked the idea. I love interracial romance. It's still a genre close to my heart, even though I have not had much opportunity to read as much as I used to, and this book also taps into my love of British media (tv/movies, etc). I have gotten pretty jaded with romance because I think that it's getting to the point where believing in true love and soulmates is a little harder for me. Deep down, I am still a diehard romantic, but I feel that writing a romance that brings something new and meaningful to the page that I connect to has gotten very difficult. In the case of Chloe and Red's story, I was engaged from the first page and beyond. I love this couple so much.
Chloe feels so familiar and believable to me. Her struggles with chronic illness and trying to just exist and live her life in a world that doesn't tend to make room for people like her who struggle with medical problems that read as mild (or nonexistent) to the world, but really aren't if you're trying to do normal things (and need to make concessions for your health concerns) or you're just too tired or in too much pain to get out of bed (whew, run on sentence!). I know people and have loved ones like her. In truth, I identify in my own struggles with chronic illness. Feeling shut out of life and having friends that move on from you because of your problems, and family that doesn't know how to help you. She has just been existing day to day after her health crisis developed three years ago, and she doesn't recognize the person she has become. A brush with death makes it clear that something has to change.
Enter Red, the superintendent for the building she lives in. A huge part of her day is watching him paint (he's an artist). He's the guy that you can silently crush on and there's not further effort required. When they connect, it opens possibilities for her life that seemed impossible and will challenge her in ways that put her at a crosswords.
Red has his own issues, and you know what happens when two people's lives and issues collide. Red is an artist who is hiding from life and his past, working as a superintendent. He has a chip on his shoulder about posh women, and Chloe gives off the posh vibe, although he's also very attracted to her and intrigued with her. Besides that, he has tried to avoid her as much as possible until one fateful day, when he realizes he can't keep defense up against her.
They have to learn to trust each other and open themselves up to each other. I loved seeing this process unfold on the page. It's gotten a lot more rare, but this was one those books that I gobbled down every interaction between them. I think their chemistry is so fantastic. This is one of those books that had me hook, line and sinker. Let me tell you that this doesn't happen too much with contemporary romances because usually there's not enough going on for me. The characters really have to catch my attention to intrigue me with their love story. This book definitely did it for me.
There was a great mix of humor and sadness. This is the first book I've read by Talia Hibbert, and I am in love with her humor. Very British, a mix of dry and slapstick. Both work very well for me. On the other side, there are some highly angsty moments that made me feel physical pain as I listened to the book. Sure there was a misunderstanding angle (not my favorite thing), however it didn't drag out and it is makes sense considering the trauma that Red has not dealt with from his past.
Yeah, I loved everything about this book. I think it would be a fantastic tv movie. It's heartwarming, steamy, funny, and populated with fascinating characters that feel like real people. I loved Chloe's family so much, her sisters Dani and Eve, and her Grandmother GiGi, especially. I also love Red's relationship with his mom and his good friend who is always there to listen and help him out.
This book brought so much enjoyment as I read it. The narrator was great. Her voice is so nice, and now I think of Chloe sounding exactly like her from now on. I highly recommend this book. My wonderful sister got me a copy for my birthday and it is on my bookshelf in its place of honor.

He's focused on getting the thorn out of his side, one Amos Elliot, and more than willing to use his forced marriage to Amos' daughter. The fact that he marries the wrong daughter throws a wrench in his plans. Because while he was fully willing to use and discard Arielle, Zara makes him feel things that he can't dismiss and write off.
I really liked that Crews twists one of the HP themes on its head. While Zara is a blackmailed bride, she does so willingly, and she really doesn't have anything to lose. She can go back to a decent life after this marriage sham is over. She agrees because for once, she wants to prove her worth to her father, and stepping up and marrying Chase could very well do that. She doesn't expect to have some very powerful feelings for Chase, and not just lust. Chase is very damaged, and she knows it, but something keeps making her reach out to him.
I like virgin heroines a lot. But it's also refreshing to read a book where the heroine isn't a virgin, and the hero doesn't have some sexual allure over her just because she's sexually naive. I also liked that Zara was curvy/plump and she was okay with her body, even knowing that society wasn't. At first Chase had this image of perfection based on the media and being in the public eye that a woman should be skinny/bony. But he finds Zara's curves very sexy and realized that what his public image called him to select in his girlfriends wasn't really what he found appealing, deep down. I think that Chase and Zara and beautifully matched in both their strengths and their dysfunction. Zara doesn't have to change herself to make Chase fall for her, and Chase can't compartmentalize and put her into a box. Chase comes to realize that there is healing available for him and that he isn't the monster he believes himself to be. he can let go of that guilt that he carried around on his back for too many years.
This is a sexy and modern take on an arranged marriage. While the climax felt a bit awkward in how things unfold and the fact that Chase doesn't get why Zara feels so betrayed, the ending more than makes up for it. I like the closure that both siblings, Chase and Mattie gain in the situation with their mother's death so many years ago, something that destroyed them so much emotionally....more

To my surprise, I really bonded with Avery. I got her. I understood her fears and what drove her and why she was trying so hard to avoid a relationship with Joe. It was funny how I would have a thought about the story and it would pop up either in the dialogue or Avery's thoughts.
I do also have to say that this nails some very integral aspects of Texas culture. I found that highly enjoyable. It was also interesting that Avery is a Texas woman to her core, but she connected to living in New York so much.
I loved Avery's relationship with her sister Sofia and the employees of her wedding/event planning company. Sofia and Steven's relationship definitely had me thinking that their sparks were of the romantic kind. I liked how Avery and Sofia were so close, despite meeting as adults. I'm very close to my sister, so I totally got the sister love between them. I loved the affection and loyalty they showed to each other. It felt very authentic.
As far as the romance, I wasn't 100% satisfied with it. I know that most of that is due to the 1st person POV format. It just doesn't work well for romance. I think that for me, I need to have access to both the characters to see the romance in a 360 degree view. I was forced to wonder and surmise how Joe felt based on what Avery saw or what he did in the book. I sometimes wondered what was defense mechanism or merely reacting to what Avery said or did.
I liked Joe, a lot, but he did let me down in a major way. (view spoiler)[ Joe was intractable about considering a long-distance relationship and that didn't gel with his supposed serious feelings for Avery. I could understand if he was clear about why, or if he expressed some angst about it. But he had already made up his mind that it wasn't going to happen. I think that if you love someone, you try to make it work. You don't hand out ultimatums. Even though he claimed he wasn't pressuring her, he made it clear that there wasn't a chance of their relationship continuing if Avery moved to New York. Plus, he made Avery say "I love you" first. I do understand that he was probably uncertain about Avery's feelings for him because she spent so long pushing him away, but he had gained a lot of insight into her and she was very clear about the fact that she didn't want to lose him. I felt the resolution of whether Avery was going to move to New York was a cop out. I would have preferred if Joe was willing to support her and willing to work out a relationship long distance, even if Avery realized she didn't want to go. I am thinking this part could have been done better. The proposal would have been cuter and better accepted if I had seen a gesture from Joe prior to that. It just seemed like he got what he wanted and it was easy street for him. (hide spoiler)]
I think my issue with this book is the same with the Travis series. I just don't care much for 1st person romance. I will always love the books, because Lisa Kleypas is a fantastic writer, and even my least favorites by her are still well-written. I did like catching up with the Travises. I really wish this had been multiple 1st person, because I really missed Joe's POV. I don't think I got to know him nearly as well I wanted. Hardy is still my favorite. Oh, that man! I could eat him off a spoon. But Joe is dreamy, and I loved him with Avery. Avery won me over and I really felt a kinship with her. I think I would like her in real life, and hanging out with her Sofia would be a lot of fun.

Jennie Lucas understands the appeal of escapist fantasy romance and she delivers it. While most of the readers of this genre won't know what it's like to swept off our feet by a ruthless billionaire, and probably don't want it in real life, Lucas gives us a 2 hour read that allows us to explore the possibilities. That's why I like this series of books so much. It's a different world and I like that I can spend two hours in that world.
Kasimir is a very bad man. Well, at least he was. I mean, he wants to be. But I think deep down, he's a decent fellow who forgot what was important in life. He lost everything, and when you lose everything, you have nothing to lose. Josie teaches him what it means to love and to sacrifice for love. She teaches him what it means to be a genuine person. And she teaches him to follow his heart and love passionately.
I really liked the first book, Dealing Her Final Card, but I think I liked this one even more. It felt more like Princess fantasy. I liked that they are actually married, and she's not just a mistress. And I think the change in Kasimir is more dramatic than in Vladimir. I also think it's because this was not a reunion romance. The feelings between Josie and Kasimir develop on the page before my mesmerized eyes, and I enjoyed every page of it.
Plus the ending was so sweetly romantic, it made me sigh.

The Beauty and the Beast retelling doesn't get old for me. After all, I am a die-hard romantic and a die-hard fairy tale lover. Pepper Pace does both so well here. Yet, instead of the Beast being grumpy and surly, Christopher is the sweetest teddy bear (although he probably resembles a Grizzly bear) imaginable. I loved him!
Pace challenges the reader here. Our Beauty has a significant weight problem. And the weight problem isn't her issue, but the emotions underneath it, the ones that caused her weight issues, and the results of them. If you've ever been overweight, you know how it is for Ashleigh. The comments that hit like barbs, because someone thinks they have the right to say something or the fact that they are insensitive, because they've never struggled with weight problems. The assumptions made about you because of your weight.
On the other side, she doesn't make Ashleigh into a completely harmless victim. Ashleigh has some shallowness issues to work through. But that's the beauty of this story. She is able to see the beauty beneath the horrible scars and disfigurement that Christopher has. I truly loved the emotional connection between Christopher and Ashleigh. And there was also a very sensual component to this book, for romance readers who need that in their stories. Lots of spice and hot love scenes to go with an emotional love story that feels so authentic and timeless.
When I got to 38% on my Kindle and love declarations were made, I wondered what else could happen in this book. Well, plenty. This is a love story about not just two people finding each other, but also also finding their way to healing. Making a life together in spite of obstacles they both face.
When you read these kinds of stories, the stubborn person in you is determined to be upset if the problem is fixed, such as the heroine losing weight, or the hero getting his disfigurement repaired. But is that truly fair to the story for the characters not to go through that passage 'just because'? After all, it's easy to stay where you are. Even harder to take that step of faith to change something about yourself for the right reasons. In this case, the resolution made so much sense and only added to this story.
If I could change anything? That's a matter of personal tastes, and I'm sure many will disagree with me. However, I could have done without some of the graphic language in the love scenes. While they were scintillating and the chemistry powerful, I guess I didn't need to read certain terms when it came to body parts. That's a small quibble.
I'm personally no grammar stickler, but there were a couple issues there. I feel bad even pointing them out because a 100% accurate book doesn't necessarily tell a story that I love, like this somewhat imperfect one does. Overall, I found the writing very poised, professional, and so emotionally-stirring that I couldn't help but give this a five star rating.
This was a beautiful love story. That's kind of ironic, because this story is about how what's on the surface doesn't show you everything. That what is at the heart is worth fighting for in the end.
Highly recommended to romance readers who enjoy a more sensually descriptive love story, or just any old sap who can't resist a tried and true love story....more

Don't get me wrong. Cheating/marital infidelity is a big, fat, huge, no no for me, across the board. But I despised his double standard. Why was it okay for him to 'get some' outside of his marriage but not his wife? No way, buddy! Surprisingly, I could understand why Beatriz agreed to his terms. She wanted to see her mother cared for and she had already started bonding with Sergios' orphaned nephews and niece. Another aspect that had the steam coming out of my ears was how the hotness of Sergios just made Bee melt like ice cream on a Texas summer day. Will power...gone! I respect that you feel an incredible sexual attraction sometimes, but, ugh, I just wish that it didn't made the heroines in these books act so marshmallowy. On the good side, she fought it longer than some do in these books. A good point in this book was Bee. She was fairly mature and grounded. I think she was a bit on the insecure side, but other than that affecting some of her decisions more than I liked, I liked her and respected her a lot. Even Sergios wasn't a total write-off. Although I wished that his feelings for Bee were a bit more obvious to me as a reader earlier on (other than lust), he was a decent guy, for the most part. Even though he started off way too smug about his attractions (a real turnoff even if he is hot), presumptuous, manipulative, and self-absorbed, I could see a discernible change in him for the better, and I loved how he lays his cards on the table near the end. Let me tell you, though, I was seething, wondering if he really did go there on his wedding night. I am pretty certain that I think I would be driven to physical violence were I some of the women in these books. It's a good thing I am not a Harlequin Presents-caliber heroine!
Final Thoughts: This was an enjoyable read for me. I know many long time Lynne Graham fans have not been happy with her newer books, I felt like this one was more or less on par with some of her older books, although it's not a favorite of mine. I like that this heroine is a bit more mature and not dizzy like she tends to do with her heroines. I liked that she knew her mind and she was an independent thinker, for the most part. The romance was good and at the end, I felt like Sergios had proven worthy of Bee. At any rate, I didn't feel like holding him off from her like a maiden aunt with a rolling pin. I'd give this one a thumbs up and a solid four stars. If you like Harlequin Presents novels, you might like this one. I did.
