I loved the alternating POVs, and was intrigued by the mystery patient in the therapy sessions. I loved the bond between the sisters. Some parts were a little slower but overall I kept wanting to read/listen more. Loved the twist!
Big trigger warnings for child abuse, especially at the end.

The author sure knows her stuff when it comes to journalism! This was more like a book about journalism with a murder thrown in. I found some details/backstories to be overexplained and unnecessarily long, which made parts of it a slow read. I also didn’t really love our main character, Jolene, until the end, which I really enjoyed.
I both read and listened to this book, and preferred the audiobook.

Alternating POVs between Ruth, Amanda, and Detective Farrow. I’m embarrassed to admit how long it took me to figure out how they all related. The first half was somewhat slow, a lot of build up, but it really picks up in the second half. So many twists and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen.

I think most of it falls into family/domestic drama, with only the last third or so being more thrilling.
I think people who enjoy character-driven books will enjoy this book more than I did. The first 2/3 moved a little too slowly for me, lots of background info on the families involved. I came close to DNFing but I really wanted to find out what happened.
I really enjoyed the ending, did not see it coming and am glad I stuck with the book. Again, I just prefer a more plot-driven book.

I have loved the entire Finlay Donovan series, but the stories have declined slightly with each book, and this one followed the same trajectory. While part of the appeal of what happens to Finlay is that the events are just so far out there, but this one just went way too far. Every other chapter had some completely outlandish thing happening.
That being said, it was still a fun read. I liked the ending and would absolutely continue with the series to see what Finlay and Vero get into next
The narrator did a good job with lots of different types of accents.

It took me a lot longer to finish because I wasn’t motivated to pick it up. The ending was a lot quicker, although a little far-fetched.
The idea of ‘designer babies’ and stolen DNA is an interesting one! At some points there was a lot of medical information, so if you like medical thrillers, you will probably enjoy this book.
I wasn’t a huge fan of Lily’s POV. She was my least favorite character. I will say the twist completely shocked me, I did not see that coming at all!

I had a hard time staying invested in what was going to happen. The end had a few twists so if you like a slower paced book you might enjoy this more than I did.

Jane lives in Connecticut and takes care of her mother, who has dementia and has recently moved into an assisted living facility. She doesn’t speak to her sister, Esme, much. Esme lives in New York and calls Jane one night asking her to pick her, because she is leaving her husband. In one side of the story Jane picks Esme up and struggles to mend their relationship while living under the same roof. On the other side of the story, Jane does not pick her up and feels guilt over the consequences.
This book was suspenseful, thought-provoking, and twisty. I enjoyed seeing the differences and similarities between each story. At no point did I anticipate what was going to happen in either timeline.

The pacing was a little difficult to get through. The beginning was interesting, the middle was pretty slow, and the end was crazy. I thought the end was a little too out-there for me, I like a more believable story.
I did enjoy the epilogue, and would be interested in seeing how this plays out.

They grew up together but have since grown apart, as Cassie’s budding family, new friends, and influencer lifestyle keeps her occupied. However, they share a traumatic event in the past that keeps them together, especially when things go wrong for Cassie.
I’m not sure I would categorize this as a mystery/thriller, but it was full of suspense and I wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. I really like the dual timelines and POVs. While I mostly sided with Billie, there were times I truly disliked her character and leaned more towards Cassie.
I liked the backstory about Billie and the relationship with her mom and her mom’s illness, and wish more time had been spent on that.
I both read and listened to the audiobook, and thought the audiobook narrators were fantastic.
