This book was a blast!
Outstanding writing. So funny, so intriguing.
Really human writing. Brent has a real way of writing dialogue. The quick quips between characters, the inner monologues full of hilarious oneliners - this book was very impressive.
I do have to say, though. Plot-wise, I felt it was going on a different direction about a third / half into the book. I can't say I loved-loved the plot, but the execution made it a blast to read, and was fun throughout.
I had thought the story was going a different way... (view spoiler)[I (believe) I would have liked it more if Huge just continually roughed up hecklers and made the other comics' outlook positive in contrast. I had thought it would be something more like: Huge bombs, deliberately. Hecklers are mad at him. Huge roughs them up. The other comics are praised. They move to a new town and repeat.
But. Over time, the hecklers begin to talk, and Huge's plan is found out. Then all comics are captured, and they all must escape.
... Something more like that is what I was expecting (hide spoiler)]
Either way, I loved the book, and thought it was a fresh breath of comedy in an all-else-otherwise stark serious suspense book like all the others in the genre.
Definitely check it out.
I want to read more of Brent's writing.
This was an impressive and dark surprise from his normal comedy.

I had fairly high hopes for this book as I know that it sounded like an interesting concept and synopsis.
Unfortunately, I found it very dull and not very interesting.
I have been reading a few other reviews on Goodreads to try to understand why this happened and I do agree - It seems that the contents of this book were really written for Japanese audiences so a lot of the comedy and jokes and situations fell flat for English audiences.
I did not find this very interesting at all and thought it was just a bland book.
That being said I felt that the character development and writing style was quite great - it's just the whole story in the essential synopsis of the book did not really follow through.
I'm quite shocked that anyone would make a show out of this book or movie or whatever Netflix did.

If you're a fan of Iliza Shlesinger's podcast (like me), you may be disappointed by this book. While the author's sharp wit and observational humor are present throughout, the overall tone is more negative and nitpicky than her podcast. While some readers may find her takes amusing, others (I included) may find them grating or repetitive.
Despite the book's shortcomings, it does share some similarities with Adam Carolla's work. However, the humor in All Things Aside falls flat for some, including myself. Some of the views expressed do not align with my own personal beliefs, which detracts from my overall enjoyment of the book.
Overall, while this book may not be for everyone, it does contain some humor and witty observations. If you're a die-hard Iliza Shlesinger fan or appreciate her brand of humor, it may still be worth a read.
However, if you're looking for something that's purely positive or consistently funny, this may not be the book for you.

Goldman's writing style is both witty and entertaining, making the book a joy to read.
The meta aspect of the book adds an extra layer of depth and intrigue to the story, making it stand out from other traditional fairy tale-inspired novels.
The characters are well-developed and each bring their own unique personality to the story, making it an enjoyable journey from beginning to end.
Overall, The Princess Bride is a timeless classic that should be on everyone's reading list.

This was a so-so book.
I thought it had some good points on how to be a "good person", but no person can truly be perfect.
It really went on-and-on about a lot of really secular moral mumbo-jumbo and it really just fell flat on me.
I also was initially attracted to the book, as I thought it was going to be a straight comedy, with how the book cover was designed, and such. But it ended up being a very worldly book on character and virtue instead of a book on a truly perfect being to model your life after - Jesus.
Some really well-written, witty, and playful essays and letters. I also found it Real Life, Really Funny
This was a treat!
Fun, interesting, and funny.
Some really well-written, witty, and playful essays and letters. I also found it touching how it was all thanks to Quantz as a secret gift!
As a fan of Alison, this was a splendid read.
She is one of the few podcasters I will listen to when she guests on other podcasts. I found this a great companion to her great candid personality, podcasts, and guest hostings.
One of my favorite essays from this book was the one about the Tines of Time. I actually had ChatGPT write a poem about that story, and it is hilarious:
The Tines of Time There once was a woman named Alison Whose teeth were a sight to behold They were chipped and cracked And a little bit attacked-ed By the tines of time, so uncontrolled,
She loved to eat with a fork in hand But alas, her teeth could not withstand The pressure and strain Of the metal tines' pain And so they were chipped, as you'd understand
But Alison didn't let this bring her down She smiled and laughed, never wearing a frown She embraced her chipped teeth And didn't think them beneath Her, even when people stared and frowned
So if you have teeth that aren't quite perfect Just remember Alison, and don't be strict Embrace your imperfections And share your affection For life, even with its tines of time, is a strict judge of history
Anyways, this book gave lots to think about. Whimsical and a little Jerry Seinfeld-like, I recommend reading the stories.

This is not just your typical math book, it's a hilarious and creative approach to learning math.
The author's sense of humor is simply infectious and will keep you entertained throughout the book. The book is packed with witty and insightful illustrations that make complex mathematical concepts easy to understand.
I particularly enjoyed how Orlin uses his quirky drawings to explain abstract mathematical concepts. He makes it seem effortless, and that's what makes the book so relatable and engaging. If you're a fan of Randall MunroeRandall Munroe's books, then you'll definitely enjoy Math with Bad Drawings - I found it particularly similar to Thing Explainer: Complicated Stuff in Simple Words
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to brush up on their math skills or just wants to enjoy a fun read. Whether you're a math whiz or a complete novice, this book has something for everyone. Trust me, you won't be able to put it down once you start reading! A quick read too.
Overall, Math with Bad Drawings is a great book that's fun for all ages. If you're looking for a lighthearted approach to learning math, then this book is definitely worth checking out!

I don't agree with everything in the book, but you gotta give it to him for being honest. A lot of good points were spouted out in this book!
Quite a few times reading this I chuckled out loud.
I don't listen to the podcast anymore (too negative and also totally mis-informed about the pandemic), so a lot of the bits in this book were fresh to me.
A good fresh irreverent book in this time of you can't say that. Again, I don't agree with all of it, but you gotta give it to him for some of the quips.
