I have no idea how I found out about this book, but it was so cute! A 20 year exchange of letters from a woman in America {4.6/5} or maybe just 5 haha!
I have no idea how I found out about this book, but it was so cute! A 20 year exchange of letters from a woman in America and the employees of a little bookshop in London. The fact that it’s a true story makes it even better- I was seriously invested in this friendship. Although they'd never actually met, a long lasting, strong bond was formed. It was very likeable, short and sweet, makes for a very quick read and honestly I was pleasantly surprised!
I also love how there is a visible difference between how Helene writes and her witty/snarky rather informal manner of doing so compared to Frank’s writing which is very formal and polite. (the British way lol). Plus it makes me so sad that she never got to meet him before he died. The ending also really hit me. It was such a beautiful line. Crazy how someone could have such a wonderful connection with people they’ve never even met before.
"If you happen to pass by 84 Charing Cross Road, kiss it for me? I owe it so much."
Ahhhh beautiful. I’m debating giving it a 5 stars since it was just such a sweet read, the only thing is a lot of the works mentioned in this book were unknown to me and I couldn't connect with her detailed thoughts on them. Other than Pride and Prejudice and The Canterbury Tales I didn’t recognize anything she talks about. It’s inevitable of course since this is all set in between 1949-1969 and her taste in literature reflects the time period, however I of course would have understood it more had I known the books she was talking about.
Overall, its a charming little book, I do recommend it, especially the audiobook- it makes the story seem so real and the voices fit the characters perfectly!
I actually really loved the 5th book in the shatter me series because as much as I was confused, I was just so entertained the e{4.5} AARON WARNER >>>>
I actually really loved the 5th book in the shatter me series because as much as I was confused, I was just so entertained the entire time. I was rooting for so many characters, and so invested in all the new turns and twists in the story that honestly it made for a great book. I read it super quickly (as all the other shatter me books but this one in particular) and cannot even explain my love for these characters. I’m glad it was better than Restore Me cuz that book just left me with a bad impression and a heck of a weird ending. This book feels like a good end to the whole series, but i’ll of course read the next and last one anyways.
I really cant say more about this book cuz all the things i’d want to talk about are spoilers. That being said I will add one tiny spoiler (get ready to read a paragraph only if you've finished Defy me)(view spoiler)[ is anyone else low key not thrilled with this name change? It just doesn’t make sense. She says that Juliette is the name given to her by Anderson and thats why she doesn’t want it but she wants the name Ella given to her by her monster abusive parents that literally tortured her up till their DEATH? TF? Honestly girly, wake up. I think she should have made up a completely new name rather than keeping Ella. Both Ella and Juliette have bad roots, and came from horrible people. Make a new legacy for yourself, create something meaningful and for damn sake choose a name that doesnt come from terrible people! Thanks babe :D (hide spoiler)] ANYWAYS loved this book yay! ...more
