Fun trivia question: is the insanity 1) mine, 2) harrow's, 3) tamsyn's, or 4) all of the above.
What the actual hell is chapter 2. What the actual hell is chapter 3. What the actual hell is chapter 4 etcetcetcetc.
Okay im just going to journal my journey because what the actual hell what the hell what in the hell this book is just me in a straight jacket with a ball gag and those soft walls with the quilted texture and im just wading through the plot whispering "what the actual fuck" into my hands if they were free which they're not because theyre shackled by my inability to tell if the 2nd pov is Gideon or not, but every once in a while, just every so often, there are clues and I reach out to pick it up but MY HANDS ARE FRKN SHACKLED because *what in the living hell* so here goes:
Theories at 21%: Gideon is the sword. Harrow is insane. Gideon is communicating to Harrow through the misremembered plotline of book 1. Someone took Gideons body and did something to stop the process, and that's why she is an incomplete lyctor. Also why does the body now have Gideons eye colour. Am I crazy or did that change from the beginning. I don't know if I'm crazy. I might be crazy.
Theories at 32%: the same as 21% but now I'm baffled as to the lyctors plot lines and also God's just John, wtf but okay ig. Also in the beginning where it gives the charscters and their meals (ahem) I thought the name was scribbled out but turns out under Harrows, its actually multiple names over each other. Is this why Gideon hasn't been absorbed yet. Also probably God realises she's too powerful and that's why they're keeping her even though she's "broken" or or OR we knew from book 1 that Gideon is "special" somehow (survived sickness, mother mystery, has a name one of the first, etc.) and rhats what's keeping Gideon separate from absorption ig ...
Theories at 34%: I just wanna know about the eggs. What's with the eggs Gideon.
Theories at 40%: "why is duty kissing the dead traitor lyctor" is a sentence that only this fandom would conceive of making roughly 27% sense of. Let it be said, from the beginning, I've been against all empires. I don't care if God is John and looks like Kevin Spacey in my head, the empire will and must fall. I want Harrow to be careful but like how when she's actually deranged. Something about how scared harrows parents were of Gideon and how afraid they were of the tomb and how in love Harrow is with the body and the golden eyes makes me think the body and Gideon are "Of The Same" somehow but it's a gut feeling and completely baseless so. Fun.
53%: 1) I'm giggling at how teen drama all these lyctors are, their relationships are so incestuous. Gossip girl whomst? 2) What the heckin is a Harold. 3) Theory: Duty is an agent against the emperor, working with whoever this commander is, or was, he was in love with Citherea or whatever her name was, or maybe he was in love with her cavalier, he's going to try to turn Harrow, and Harrows too crazy to know what's what. But they're also plotting to kill him. I hope he doesn't die.
54%: he didn't die tehehehe
57%: ortus, he's talking to the body isn't he. The body was one of them. She was just more powerful than God aka John aka Kevin Spacey.
59%: Palamedes IS A WHAT NOW?! please don't test me like this I loved him don't give me hope ooooomfg this also means Gideon is a revenant but shes in the sword I was so right.
61%: WHO. IS MMMEEEEEEEEEE. IS GIDEON THE SLEEPER. WHO SAW ME?! PALAMEDES?! GOD?! WWHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
65%: plot twist would be that one of the other lyctors is the traitor, not duty, but mercy or patience.
69%: im so smug. 2nd pov was Gideon and I knew it from ch.1. I'm soooooo smug. Duty is Gideons father too I'm calling it.
79%: dutys name is Gideon! So gideons mother was a lyctor? Which one?! Why else would the mother - maybe Anastasia the non lyctor?! - have said the name Gideon if it wasn't the father? Or the person hunting her? Also okay so 79% 2.0: Harrow is actually just haunted by what was in the tomb, BUT BUT BUT that doesn't explain why the ghosts eye colour changed to gideons, why she's being haunted to begin with, also the bodys definitely anabelle lee, and maybe having a separate cavalier that isn't fully eaten is what gives you God like powers of necromantic nature ... I dunno there's a powerful connection between Gideon aka duty and Gideon aka gridle and the body / ghost aka anabelle Lee and again its a gut feeling snd nothing else. Also 79% 3.0: now we know, a Harold is a space bee. 79% 4.0: oooooommmfffgggggg they all know her by the eyes, gideons eyes are the same as the bodys / the ghosts, why does mercymorn mistake her eyes WHY DOES SHE MISTAKE GIDEON FOR HER that means mercymorn knew all along that Harrow was haunted by the body and that ALSO means that the reason Gideon aka duty was trying to kill Harrow for gideons connection to the bodys oooommmggg What is going OOOONNNNUGH
80%: mercymorn traitor plot twist confirmed I knew. Dutys name is Gideon confirmed. They were behind Harrows making? What dolls? Gideon hunting her confirmed I bet its anastasia was the one with Gideon gridle. What's with the tomb cult and Gideon and the commander. Were getting aaaaallll the answers but even more questions
92%: there's no way God is casually rapping evanescence and eminem like how is John such a millennial.
94%: okay I was not anticipating God being gideons father but I CALLED THE BODY AKA AL AKA ANABELLE LEE BEING HER BLOOD
99.9%: wtf was that ending. Out of the 1,000 questions we had from book one, precisely 9 of them were answered and 99,000 more of them were raised....more

Bug fiA very, very cute children's book that follows a science-inclined young girl named Bug / Stella who is trying to understand her father's death. Bug finds a black hole on her way home one day, and as the book progresses it becomes increasingly obvious that the black hole is meant to represent Bug's grief and loss. The book does a really good job of intertwining scientific / physics themes with the symbolism of loss and grief. Even though this book is children's lit, adults can also read and enjoy this book. It goes through healthy and plausible ways to deal with grief in a way that does not romanticize pain and sorrow. A super enjoyable read, lovable and unique characters, and a genuine and deep understanding of what it means to lose a loved one makes this one of my favorite reads this year. ...more

It's really weird, sometimes sci-fi, sometimes immigrant story, always enthralling though. The writing is broken into two voices (not POV, but as in tones) where one voice is just the narrator telling the story, and then the other is possibly the kappa's voice, which is super mystical and poetic and foggy sounding. There's a ton of representation in this, queerness, race, sexuality, age, it goes through all kinds of different stories while mainly focusing on our first generation Japanese protagonist.
