Oh no...this one, there is actually a serious plot! We're talking James Bond action, ladies and gents! First we have Chloe, who is a very simple American girl who just happens to speak a zillion languages, and then we have Bastien, who is part of the Committee to take out illegal arms dealers. Very, very unfortunate when Chloe is targeted for termination. Even more unfortunate when cold, unfeeling Bastien with his heart covered in a slick coat of black ice (hence the title) finds that he just can't let Chloe go. Lots of action. Lots of suspense. Lots of high-charged emotion. Very good thriller and I would recommend to anyone that likes a good thriller in their reading!...more

However, I did not enjoy this one as much as I had hoped, namely because (oh, my, yes, I'm going to say it) there was TOO much sex in it. Don't get me wrong, lots of hot sex is a great thing to read about, but I was actually really interested in the mystery/crime/thriller aspect of the book, not to mention that I love books set in New Orleans, and this one just felt like every time it turned the corner to another aspect in the plot, BAM! These two were screwing again! So three stars for me. Entertaining, but fell a little into the "totally hot, no plot" category in my brain. I enjoyed Ruined a lot more....more

In a word, I found this book absolutely abhorrent, disgusting and revolting all at the same time. I've never breathed such a sigh of relief as I did when this one was over. I really don't know what appalled me the most about it and honestly, I would rather not relive it. Let me just say that I have learned from this book that books about TPE are DEFINITELY NOT MY THING. I may skim Molly’s Lips: Club Mephisto Retold out of curiosity but this book with the edging and the anal training and the caging and the chastity harness just absolutely did nothing for me in any way shape or form. If it hadn't been safe, sane and consensual (the last being very DUBIOUS on the consensual), I don't think I could have finished it. Word to the wise...process with extreme caution. This is NOT for the faint of heart. ...more

I thought that I didn't care for Doubled because it was so short, but now I think it's the writing style. The plot was extremely interesting and the sex was really hot. But for me, it was hard to keep track of past vs. present, who was speaking and who wasn't, what was actually happening and what was just happening in June's mind, who was doing what and to whom, not to mention that dystopian-style books for the most part with no hope or sparkle for the future are very depressing to me. I found myself having to reread sections two and three times to make sure that I understood what was going on. However, Jamie and Blake were HAWT HAWT...and full of emotions. This was a very unique and different menage story...three people who are literally the only people left on Earth (or are they?) who haven't ever had a MFM menage and haven't had sex in years? Yeah...that's sizzle-worthy for sure. ...more

This one was captivating enough that it kept me up until 5:30 in the morning reading. I have to admit that while I really, REALLY liked Nathan, Garrett Kelly is still my favorite Kelly bro. However, this book really went off on a strange twist with the paranormal/telepathic aspect of it. I had to reread the first few chapters though because I couldn't figure out where Shea was. At first, I thought she was nearby and in the same prison. It was just...odd. Once I figured it out though, it was really good....and the book has the same flow and writing style as the other KGI books. One thing is for sure...Maya Banks puts the female characters in these books THROUGH THE RINGER. It is a nice touch though because it just makes the "being saved" emotions by the strong Kelly brothers just that much more intense and sweet. The ending to me was a little scattered...and I had to concentrate hard to pull it all together...but all in all, this is a great read, very romantic, very sweet, very hot, lots of action, everyone you want in a KGI book. ...more

I don't think I have ever read a book that has achieved such a fine balance of romance and the thriller/crime aspect as this one, which is probably why it is so long, but rightfully so, and I didn't think it dragged at all. This book grabs you from the get-go and does not let go. This book is a perfect example of the butterfly effect...you know, a butterfly flaps its wings in Alabama and a tsunami starts rolling towards the coast of India on the other side of the world. In THIS case though...well...envision this scenario...any one of us would have done the same in high school, but to foresee the repercussions of how it would affect your entire life!?
(view spoiler)[“Freshman year, in lunch, during lunch…” “fuck!” “Susie was going after him, her and some of the cheerleaders, a few jocks. God, I don’t even remember who was there but I remember it was Susie doing most of the talking.” “I waded in,” she told him, “me and Angie, but mostly me. I was always the one with the big mouth.” “And nothing, that’s it. I just walked over to them and told them to fuck off, leave him alone. I wasn’t nice about it either. Susie had a few words for me but the jocks drifted away, probably because they knew you and Morrie wouldn’t like it if they got into it with me. Once she realized she didn’t have anyone at her back, Susie backed off too. Denny was long gone by then. He didn’t do anything, say anything, just escaped as quickly as he could. I didn’t even see him go since I was into it with Susie. He just vanished.” “Denny ever say thanks, show gratitude, anything?” “Nothing, I didn’t know he knew I existed,” she told him then her eyes, still on him, went far away and she went on. “I’d smile at him in the halls. I remember. I’d smile at him even when he was scrawny. But also when he filled out,” she focused on Colt again and finished, “he never smiled back, looked right through me.” (hide spoiler)]
This one simple act triggered an obsession that would last for the next 20+ years, tear Alec Colton and February Owens apart, and what do you do when you realize so many years later that what happened with your high school sweetheart, the love of your life, is not what it seemed when you were 20? So many secrets. So much drama. So much heartache. So much joy. So much laughter. This book has it all. I'll probably never heard the song "Landslide" again by Stevie Nicks without smiling and thinking about this book.
I have always loved "slice of life" type movies and books, and this one is a good one. This town is small. Everyone knows everyone else's business and everyone is close. Watching Feb and Colt's friends and families rally around them as they try to sew the shreds of what once was their HEA back together is so heart-warming. The sexual chemistry and heat between Feb and Colt is absolutely burn-up-the-sheets hot. All of the history from when Feb, Colt and her brother Morrie are kids is clearly spelled out so you aren't lost as to what happened. There are a lot of "OMG" moments. There are a lot of moments where you find yourself laughing. It is a very long book and very intense so you can't skim at all, but you don't need to. There is nothing boring about it. It does not drag a bit. Kristen Ashley does an artful and clever job of weaving a story with a lot of excitement and bringing all the characters back together into it so everyone has their place in Feb and Colt's lives. I love the dynamics between Feb and Colt...especially how they accepted and embraced the people that came into each others' lives while they were apart with no jealousy or anger, only love and friendship. They really were amazing together as adults, although I still can't believe that they were in their 40s. It really seemed like they were more in their 30s.
Do Feb and Colt get their HEA? You'll have to read to find out. Excellent, excellent read. Don't be intimidated by the length...it is necessary for the completion of the book....more

I liked Rowdy a lot. I LOVE Natches. Dawg...well, I didn't like him in HIS book (Nauti Nights) and I don't like him in this one either. So I'm going to chalk it up to a bad character. THIS book....on the other hand....was incredible. It started out with an amazing prologue....fast-forwarded four years to a secondary prologue....and then got right to the action. Normally, I do not care for flashbacks but in this book, it was done very well, and very, very emotionally. Natches and Chaya were brought together under the worst of circumstances...but that situation molded each other into the fabric of each other's life. Natches is not a jerk, he kept the alpha waves to a low roar, and I loved how, like the first two, the theme of "dreams" was a constant runner throughout the story. His dreams. Her dreams. Giving her back her dream. Dreams of babies and home. It was quite the romantic and sexy story...and the plot was really nice and even to follow. Great story!...more

I knew it was going to be whenever you are talking about forbidden love, but you put these two on "Strap On Central" as Merrick calls it where Lissa has to force Saber to do things like massage her vajayjay, kiss her feet and feed her food, well...it's a recipe for "yup, we're in this together and let's enjoy it". There are parts of this book that are frankly shocking and a little far-fetched, even for an alien series, which is why I gave it four instead of five. The whole obsession with sex on Yonnie Six was just a little too twisted and weird, but if you suspend disbelief just a little bit and just go with it, it's a pretty erotic tale indeed. One of my favorite parts was when Draven plays his fun at the end and Merrick and Saber have their heart to heart talk at the bar which ends up in the HEA after for Lissa and Saber. This series is just fan-freaking-tastic and if you have not tried it yet, I don't know what you are waiting for....more

However, it came dangerously close to getting one star. I am giving it two because the plot of this book is really something else. What would you do if you realized that you had bought a house that had a double homicide take place within it...and worse, the bodies were buried in your flower beds? And even worse, you're worried about your OWN decaying rotting corpse at the rear of your property? Jason Getty is a terrible liar. It makes it very interesting to watch him struggle with his urges to protect himself (and keep himself from getting in any deeper into his lies) and the need to do the right thing. What I really found difficult to read about this book was the editing. The shift from the different POV from the various characters was way too abrupt and not clearly delineated. First you're deep in Jason's head, and then whammo, next paragraph you're reading about Boyd, and then next you're reading about Tim. I am not sure if that was because I got this book from Netgalley or what, but the editing needed to be a little better so that the book flowed better. I admit that I was thoroughly confused by the end of the book about what happened because of all the shifting from POV to POV and no clear answers about what ended up happening to everyone, but I do have to admit that the book kind of lost my interest at about the 75% mark and I just wanted to be done. I also thought it was hokey that a POV from Tessa was written. She's a dog. That to me was ODD. And I did not get why Boyd kept referring to coming back for Phil's body...Phil was the next-door pill pusher? Just really didn't flow well. Some better editing would have served this book VERY well....more

Stories of El Chupacabra have been told at my family gatherings (my husband is Hispanic) so this story was very interesting to me on that level...albeit, a tad scary. I really liked Dakota's character...very, very open and accepting of the wolves and the herb garden thing really reminded me a lot of Claire Fraser from Outlander. Jonah is very sweet and the fact that he didn't want to kill Dakota or have to hold back from hurting her was a refreshing change from other wolf shifter books that I have read. Hot sex. Great dialogue. Always love the interaction between the lovers when one is in their wolf form...I don't know why, but that part of any shifter book always makes me smile...probably comes from watching Bella snuggle up to Jake in his wolf form in Eclipse. The reason why this got three stars instead of four is because I would have liked to have seen a LITTLE more heat between Jonah and Dakota before they fell into bed together. He watches her as a wolf through the window, sees her in town, does small talk for about ten minutes, and BAM! they are in bed. I also really was a little disappointed that there wasn't more of a flair when they mated...guess I've been reading too many books with biting. But very solid plot, hot sex, great characters and I look forward to reading the next in the series. This is my first novel by Desiree Holt and I was not disappointed....more

After finishing this book, I had no desire to read any other Anne Rice novel. A lot of people love her writing style, so I think it's more of a personal preference than anything else, but for this one...I'll stick to watching Tom and Brad on the silver screen.

Both of the main characters in this book are existing, not really living, until they find each other in the darkness. It's written from a dual POV but not at the same time, so you don't feel like you are reading the same scene over and over (like I just felt like I did in Incurable Hearts). The book is set in high school, and there are sexual references but no explicit sex scenes, so to me, this would be young adult appropriate. If I owned a copy to lend, I would have no problem loaning this one to my nieces in high school who read. There were a lot of funny parts to it which made it enjoyable to read, and it was truly amazing watching Natya/Emilia/Sunshine/Em/Milly come back to life. Very nicely written....more

This book, BY FAR, is my favorite book of the series so far. And I had a feeling that it would be because I have adored John Matthew from the first moment we met him...in what book, #2? This silent giant conveys such depth of feeling for those he loves and cares for and holds dear, even at the expense of his own happiness, without even uttering a word out loud. How can you NOT fall in love with him? And then let's not forget that the man is SEX ON LEGS. Honestly, little miss Xhexania did NOT stand a freaking chance against his silent charm. Because of what he did not have growing up and what he has been through, he values that which he holds dear all the more. (view spoiler)[I admit that I got more than a tad misty at the end when Z sings U2's "All I Want Is You" at their mating ceremony and I doubt that I will ever be able to hear that song again without thinking of John and Xhex and this absolutely amazing story of two survivors who found each other and never, ever let go. (hide spoiler)]
I think the one thing I didn't care for AS much in this book were the sextuplet storylines...John and Xhex...Qhay (which is freaking HOT btw)...the haunted house storyline in South Carolina...Payne and her pain, if you'll pardon the pun...Darius and Tohr and their mission...and let's not forget that piece of pond scum misery Lash who I was REALLY hoping would find a more fitting end to his pathetic miserable existence than he did. I have to admit, I was secretly cheering inside that Xhex would pull another Lorena Bobbit and feed that piece of shit a sausage sandwich. However, I kept reminding myself that the WARDen has a purpose and all of this was going to come together at the end...which it did. In a HUGE way. But you know what...if all of this is for the purpose of spawning MORE books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, keep those multiple storylines coming!!!! My happy moment this weekend was to see that the WARDen is working on THE KING!
And...sigh. I want to rewind time and reread this book again for the first time. Because....this accurately depicts how I feel about reading about sweet, strong, sex on legs John Matthew. My newest and only dearest vampire book boyfriend.

This book was absolutely sensational. I really did not feel like I understand what a symphath was, or who Rehvenge was, or why he is the way he is or does the things that he does, or feels the way he does...until THIS BOOK. WOW. Absolutely, unbelievably, freaking amazing. I never in a million years pictured Rehv to have such a romantic streak in him...or to be so absolutely iron-willed in protecting his females that matter to him...his mother, Bella, Nalla, Xhex, and now Ehlena. This book is written SO WELL. I felt so pulled into the emotional cyclone that is Rehvenge, Son of Rempoon. And why I marked it horror? Well, you'll just have to read it to find out.
What I am really starting to love about these books the more and more I get into the series is how much they are devoting to each "couple", but also how they deviate and touch base with the others as well. John, Qhuinn and Blay are really starting to captivate me in a BIG way (hence why I think I took no more than a pee break before starting Lover Mine) and it's absolutely just so heart-wrenching to watch this Brotherhood family (the Brothers, their family, their friends and the women that love them all) come together in this horrific war that sadly, is going to get worse before it gets better.
I am saying this now that I have read Lover Mine, which is the last BDB that I own (I have to go scrape the next three up at the local library) that this is truly and sincerely the best vampire and paranormal series I have ever read and if there is anyone out there that either has not tried it or, read Dark Lover and gave up like I did at first, you really need to pick up the second one and keep going, because this world that the WARDen has created in Caldwell, New York, is absolutely fascinating, hypnotic and captivating. Twilight, Schmilight...that's child's play compared to these books. Sorry, Stephenie Meyers. I still love Edward and Jacob, but these guys are freaking ROCK STARS in comparison. ...more

Thank GOD it wasn't Phury all the way through or I probably would have taken a lot longer to read it, but man, it was nonstop action from beginning to end. There was so much in this book that raised questions about characters to be featured in future books. Rehvenge, Xhex, John Matthew, Qhuinn, Lash, Blay, Payne, Tohr, the Princess...not to mention THE WAR IS STARTING TO GET REALLY DIRTY AND EXCITING. The one thing that I really didn't care for in this book was that I just didn't really quite get what Phury's problem was, but then again, do ANY drug addicts have any rhyme or reason for why they become hooked? It really was like one giant pity party and he invited everyone in his life to join in. In the world of the BDB, vampires are just like normal people...they are subject to the same feelings of inadequacy, self-esteem issues, sadness, etc. I wish that there had been a lot more development in the relationship between Cormia and Phury...it really felt just a little too fast...but in the end, Cormia really pulled through for Phury. This book was a pleasure to read...for me, it did not drag like I thought I would, and now I'm DYING to finish the series. I even put #9-#11 on hold at the library...that's how much I want to read these books!!!! This book really does jump around from character to character, which can be distracting, but I think the transition is smooth...and more than ever, I am SO intrigued by Qhuinn. Great read. ...more

But I reallI had read Comfort Food, so I had an inkling of what to expect from this author. And I told myself that I would not let myself NOT finish. But I really couldn't attach myself to Grace or Asher in this book. Lucas, well, he's an asshole, but that's besides the point. I thought it was really irresponsible of Grace to basically sign her life rights away to someone that she met on the internet who told her himself he's a hard master. That's not to say that I think she asked for what happened to her at all, but going to Eleu without even meeting this man in person was just a poor choice. Asher...I really wanted to like him. I really did. And he had his tender moments. And then he didn't. It just felt too much like he was attracted to her for her submissive and slave-like tendencies and she was attracted to him because he represented what she wanted when she came to Eleu and rescued her from Lucas. Other than that, it just didn't seem like there were any true emotions there. And quite frankly, I wish that I could reach into my brain and pull out the image of an Australian shepherd licking Grace's pussy because THAT IS SOMETHING I WISH THAT I COULD UNREAD!...more
