“When it comes to creating work you love, following your passion is not particularly useful advice.”
This book challenges the popular belief that " “When it comes to creating work you love, following your passion is not particularly useful advice.”
This book challenges the popular belief that "follow your passion" is the key to a successful career. Instead, Newport argues that developing rare and valuable skills is the key to a fulfilling and successful career.
Three sections make up the book: Part One examines the drawbacks of the "follow your passion" philosophy, Part Two defines "career capital" and how to achieve it, and Part Three offers suggestions for using career capital to create a rewarding job. The author stresses the significance of honing a certain set of abilities, concentrating on career advancement, and being deliberate in one's job. The author writes in a straightforward, understandable manner and supports his views with examples from everyday life. In order to help readers apply the concepts to their own life, the book also includes tasks and quizzes.
I thought reading this book was worthwhile. It offers useful guidance on how to develop a successful and rewarding profession. The book is filled with useful advice that may be used in one's professional life, and Newport has a fascinating writing style. The book serves as a fantastic reminder that success requires not only desire but also the acquisition of a unique combination of talents and the deliberate pursuit of one's goals. To anyone trying to advance their career and find success, I would strongly advise it.

The autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the most important people of the 20th century, is titled "An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments with Truth." Gandhi's life is covered in the book, which was initially released in 1927 and spans from his early years until the 1920s.
The book's clear writing style offers readers a rare look into the life and ideas of one of the 20th century's most extraordinary leaders. The book explores Gandhi's life, focusing on his battles with racism and imperialism, experiments with truth and nonviolence, and attempts to bring about social and political reform in India. One of the book's advantages is that it offers a first-person account of the crucial times in Gandhi's life and the processes by which he developed his political and philosophical viewpoints. The book offers an insight into the society and culture of India at that time.
Overall, I thought this book was a strong and motivational read. Anyone interested in Gandhi, his philosophy, or the Indian Independence cause should read it. The book is a tribute to the effectiveness of nonviolence and civil disobedience as well as a window into the life of one of the 20th century's most significant leaders. It serves as a reminder of the value of sticking up for what is right in all circumstances.

The book was first published in 1946 and it is a powerful and moving account of Frankl's experiences in Nazi concentration camps during World War II. It is a memoir that describes the author's battle to find purpose amid unfathomable agony. Frankl does a fantastic job of describing the brutality and inhumanity of the concentration camps in his prose, which is strong and evocative. He also talks about how he managed to survive the camps and how he found purpose in his misery. Frankl's observations and insights into the human condition are profound, and they offer important insights into the psychology of people and the causes of their suffering.
The author's ability to express the value of having a sense of purpose in life is one of the book's highlights. He contends that the pursuit of what we find valuable in life, rather than seeking pleasure, is what motivates us most. He emphasises that finding meaning in life is what drives people to live and gives life its purpose.
I found this book to be both a challenging and emotional read overall. It serves as a potent reminder of the strength of the human spirit when faced with hardship. Frankl's language is strong and vivid, and he has significant insights into the human condition.

The book is written in an easy-to-read, attractive language that makes it straightforward to comprehend. The author does a fantastic job of conveying the culture and customs of the time because the novel is set in ancient India. The plot is interesting and provocative, and the characters are well-developed and relatable. The quest for spiritual enlightenment is one of the book's central topics. Siddhartha undergoes a variety of experiences and meets a number of instructors before realising that enlightenment can only be attained from within. Readers of all ages will appreciate Siddhartha since it is a brilliantly written and thought-provoking book. Anyone who wants to read something thought-provoking and insightful, or who is interested in spiritual or personal development, should read it. The conce “But as long as one continues to use one’s misfortune to one’s advantage in order to be ‘special’, one will always need that misfortune.”
The concepts in the book are drawn from the works of Alfred Adler, a therapist from the 20th century, and Friedrich Nietzsche, a philosopher from the 19th. A fictional conversation between a philosopher and a young man is featured in the book's conversational writing style. The concept of "self-determinism" and how to live a full life by accepting responsibility for one's own happiness and forming a sense of self are the book's key themes. According to the writers, self-doubt and societal expectations can hold people back, but by grasping the idea of self-determinism, people can escape these restrictions and lead authentic lives. The value of confronting and overcoming fears as well as the effectiveness of self-reflection is also discussed in the book.
The book is simple to read and comprehend, and its message is inspiring and provocative. Anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and how to have a more fulfilling life should read this book. The book offers helpful tips and methods on how to overcome social restrictions and stay loyal to oneself in order to lead a more genuine and fulfilling life.
This book was a transforming read for me overall. It serves as a wonderful reminder that we are solely responsible for our happiness and that we should not be ashamed of who we are. The concept of "self-determinism" is clearly discussed in the book, which is well-written and simple to read.

This was the very first book I read by CoHo. At that time I thought it was brilliant and I still think this is her best work to date (yes, including, It Starts with Us).
It is a powerful and thought-provoking novel about the complexities of love, abuse, and healing. The protagonist, Lily, is a relatable and well-developed character who must come to terms with her own experiences of abuse and learn to heal from them.
The novel explores the impact of abuse on relationships in a raw and honest way, and the themes of consent, boundaries, and self-worth are handled with sensitivity and depth. The writing is emotive and engaging, with the plot moving at a steady pace and keeping the reader invested until the very end. While the subject matter is heavy and often difficult to read, the novel ultimately leaves the reader with a sense of hope and the importance of speaking out against abuse. It is a must-read for fans of contemporary women's fiction and is sure to leave a lasting impact.

I truly enjoyed and got enlightened reading this book. Each theme is very well explained. The tone throughout is conversational. It is presented in the form of 365 quotations, one for each day of the year. I found the October part to be most resonating, it consisted of lessons like time, perception, brain and transformation. Although the book is written in easy language the material is heavy. I suggest you read it slowly and let things sink properly. I highly recommend this book to each individual to get clarity about life.

Pigs, unlike other animals, could communicate well in English, giving them the authority to lead. However, the story that follows takes place only a few years later.
After reading this book, I had an entirely different perspective on power and politics. I've discovered that you must respect and treat people and animals fairly and stick to your decisions. The vastness of the message and the numerous levels that awaited unravelling captivated me; it is a book that anyone could and should read.

I adore this book and I am sure I'm going to re-read it multiple times throughout my life. No doubt it won the Goodreads Choice 2020 Award. Matt Haig is a fantastic storyteller who will have you engrossed from start to finish. Those who have gone through difficult times in their lives will be able to relate to the protagonist. Nora Seed wants to die.
We begin with a young woman on the point of making a disastrous decision. Her job, her best friend and her brother have all been taken away from her. Her connections are shattered, and her pet is no longer alive. More importantly, she is profoundly, and presumably irreversibly, depressed. She can't think of a day that would be better if she were there. Living has devolved into a chore.
The novel is based on the idea that somewhere between life and death, there is a library with books containing stories from several universes. What could have been, and how would each variation of one's life have turned out?

Our efforts should be to give wings to this fire and fill the world with the glow of its goodness.” APJ Abdul Kalam's autobiography, Wings of Fire, covers his early life as well as his role in Indian space research and missile programmes. It tells the narrative of a young boy from a poor family who rose through the ranks of Indian space research and missile programmes to become the country's president.
Despite the fact that this book is written by a scientist, there is very little scientific narrative in this book. SLVs, geo satellites, composite materials, mechanical engineering, and other related topics. The travel itself is prone to technical glitches, particularly when it is scientific in character. Like the man himself, Abdul Kalam forced his resolve to triumph despite setbacks, fears, and disappointments.
The book's central theme is the big Indian dream. Abdul Kalam realised a wish shared by all of the country's founding fathers. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's simple living and positive attitude became an inspiration for the Indian young, as this book reveals.

Arroga "Impressing people is utterly different from being truly impressive." Ryan Holiday defines ego as an unhealthy belief in our own importance. Arrogance. Self-centred ambition. I was a person who used to think that I don't have any ego, why should I read this book? But I was completely wrong, there is an innate ego in each one of us. The writer has explained this in the form of examples. He also explains how if you can control your mind and ego you can literally control anything in this world. The book is divided into 3 parts; ASPIRE, SUCCESS AND FAILURE.
Ego truly is the enemy. The enemy of a purposeful life. The enemy of self-growth and the enemy of being a better human being. The author's insights carry a lot of resonance and the book is helpful for shifting the mindset toward the things that matter in life. Definitely going to read more of his books. I love books that teach tangible skills, but books that make you contemplate your moral fibre and strive to improve as a person are even better.

The result is that people learn to work at the service of money… but never learn to put money to work for them."
The reason this book is so popular even today is because of its simplicity; all the financial jargon that we hear in everyday life could be understood in the most simplistic way in a form of a story. I consider this book as the foundation of financial literacy. After reading this book, you will definitely realize that the concept of trading time for money just isn’t the smartest way to go through life. Your money should work for you—not the other way around. My 3 major takeaways from this book are:
1. Being rich = freedom 2. Rich people make money work for them, while most everyone else works for money 3. Financial education is a key to success.
If you want to learn more about how to build wealth and distinguish between liabilities and assets, definitely read this book – it’s worth it.

However, the real meaning is “the creative reason you are showcasing, for not finishing something”. The quick response from our mind is that if procrastinating is bad, how can we overcome it. That’s where this quick read “Eat that Frog” by Brian Tracy helps. The name of the book is also one of the main concepts taught and its name is derived from a quote from Mark Twain, who famously said:
"Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day."
The idea is that if you finish a task that you're inclined to procrastinate on each morning, you can go about your day knowing you've completed it, and the rest of your day will be easy in comparison.
There are 21 chapters and each chapter introduces a different idea, tip, or technique that will help you overcome procrastination and get more things done. 3 things I liked: 1. The principle of handling the biggest and most difficult task first is solid and in most scenarios, I cannot argue with the logic of doing so. 2. The book does not provide a complete, step-by-step strategy, but if you are new to time management and productivity, “Eat That Frog!” book is a great introduction, as it provides the reader with some food for thought and a good amount of ideas to try if you’re serious about being more productive daily. 3. Lays out actionable tasks at the end of each chapter that you can use to help become more organized and procrastinate less.
