As this was a reread(many times over),all i can reiterate is that this is a Sherlock Holmes classic. Golding was a fan of H.G.Wells and i can't help but think he took inspiration from Wells The Island of Dr. Moreau. Whereas with Wells it was the man into beast motif, with Golding it is the inner evil that can be within us all, be it man or boy. When the rules are not applied and chaos ensues what would you do to survive. The boys are immediately set into groups via status and rules are meant to be adhered to. The conch means a person can express his concerns or thoughts. Tensions arise and the troubles begin. A great tale,but not to all tastes. And ofcourse made into an iconic film....more
