“In the name of the Pizza Lord. Charge!”
1. ANOTHER Dresden book that was good but nothing else, I'm literally waiting for these to pick up pace, storyline, character arcs, and villains...actually, I'M WAITING FOR IT TO PICK UP EVERYTHING.
2. Summer Knight was indeed better than the first 3 books in the series but it still fails to reach my expectations and believe me THEY ARENT HIGH AT THE MOMENT.
3. This book expands the world slightly but not by much. Dont get me wrong, reading any Dresden book is fun but LET'S GROW FROM FUN NOW!
4. I love Harry's humor, he is a really interesting character to read about BUT HIS CHARACTER ISN'T EVOLVING. People often talk about Harry as if he's dangerous and too powerful but all we get to see ARE HIS 3 MAGIC SPELLS EVERY BOOK!
5. Jim Butcher is failing to get me emotionally attached to these characters, certain instances in the book could have been very emotional if executed properly but they lacked the depth I was looking for. (view spoiler)[ What even happened when Elaine came back? WHAT WAS THAT? She just popped in and Harry was like oh ok lezz go, like she wasn't technically dead before? (hide spoiler)]
6. These books are pretty quick reads and it's almost like I'm watching a TV show, they're fun but I guess I'm waiting for the world to expand and to get a story arc that can expand through the books.
7. I like all the male characters in the books BUT I STILL DONT LIKE A SINGLE FEMALE (Murphy did get less annoying ngl), idk if Susan is struggling or Murphy is sad...I DON'T.
OK my frustration aside, I'm still going to continue but I genuinely want to understand the hype.

“We've both got into the blue beetle. He got into the red door, I got into the white one.”
This book is a bit different from the previous ones and, its safe to say that I loved that change. People have informed me to just get through the first 3 books because then the Dresden books grow exponentially and now I have successfully done that, kudos to me.
“Don't yadda yadda the Lord, Harry. It's disrespectful.”
The start of the book in itself was different. The moment you get through the first few pages, it is obvious that the author is aiming for a change, and it is clearly visible. The book has developed in a way that still has a humourous, unhinged vibe (one that I truly appreciate).
Jim Butcher's character work is interesting to witness, a few new characters were introduced in this installment and some of them are already my favorites. Every character in the Dresden books has a vibe and personality that makes these books fun to read. Harry Dresden is in the queue of becoming one of my favorite characters and seems like there's no stopping that.
“I guess being dead gives you a whole different perspective on life.”
Although I love every relationship the author introduces in the books, I can't get past the romantic ones. They feel so forced to me and I feel little to no affection towards the romantic aspects of Harry's relationship, Sorry not sorry. I do hope the series gets better in that sense because *SPOILER ALERT* I don't give a shit about Harry and Susan, I don't.
The world in Dresden books seems to be growing and it's very intriguing to witness that. Book one introduced us to this modern-day Chicago with Harry as the only wizard in it, solving murders that don't make much sense. But NOW I can see it expanding, we have read about demons, werewolves, vampires, and ghosts, and get a taste of faeries I KNOW FOR A FACT, this is going get epic.
Everything aside, I did enjoy myself thoroughly for more than half of the book but it all seemed to slow down by the end. I was waiting for a very grand finale to the book but it lacked somehow, maybe it was because of my thoughts about Harry and Susan but the conclusion remains, it was not that satisfactory. I did not actually go into the book with high expectations but even after knowing not to expect, it doesn't change the fact this could have been better or MORE. That said, I can't wait to read the next part because I LOVE THIS JOURNEY AND I HAVE 10+BOOKS TO GO. PS: shoutout to my buddy read partner for still not completing the book (10 days after I finished it)...more

“Put some clothes on, you weird, yellow-eyed, table-dancing, werewolf-training, cryptic, stare-me-right-in-the-eyes-and-don't-even-blink wench.”
For a slow and apparently "not a solid book in the series", I enjoyed this one WAY too much!
I literally can not tell you how much Harry has grown on me, Murphy got annoying, Bob (missed him, he deserves more than half a book to himself), I still love Marcone (IDC IF HES A CRIMINAL LORD OR SMTH), I also like werewolves now<3
“I can't be under arrest right now,” I said back to him. “I don't have the time.”
All in all, I'm excited for the series to get bigger and more epic. It's been hyped up by so many people, and I can't wait to see what happens next....more

Want to read epic fantasy as a beginner? Th4.5 STARS✨ PLEASE STOP AND READ IF YOU WANT REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK AND MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER.
Want to read epic fantasy as a beginner? This book. A fantasy geek who wants to read a banger fantasy trilogy? THIS book. Want a top-tier bromance? THIS Book. Want a found family? THIS BOOK! Fast pacing with a banger plot? THIS BLOODY BOOK!!! (I have more to say so let's continue)
Theft of Swords is the first book in The Riyria Revelations, which was originally a six-part series that was later combined into three. It follows two thieves, Hadrian and Royce, going by the name Riyria doing impossible heists and missions. But one framed job results in them taking the blame for the king's murder and so begins a journey that no way in hell they could have expected.
“Just another game he played in a world where heroes were legends and honor was a myth.”
I was nowhere near this book and I don't think it would have jumped up my TBR anytime soon. My cousin though, convinced me to start it (in front of his eyes and made me read 3 chapters) and holy shit I am thankful for that, he seriously gave me my new favorite series! AND I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ IT TOO!
Let's talk about the characters first. Hadrian and Royce are so real and human. You can figure out each one has their own personality with complex layers within the first chapter of meeting them. Micheal J Sullivan has a way of writing his characters with such detail but never once does it bore you. You want to know them more, you want to hear their stories, you want to root for them and this makes the book so much better to me, the characters trap you in and you have no choice.
“It's not easy to subdue a person bigger than you and not hurt him in the process." "Well, I think I found your problem, then. Why don't we try hurting him?”
Hadrian and Royce are polar opposites. (he also wears a hood and wants to murder people because they annoy him, making him my favorite of the two!) Yet they have this bond, this friendship that you know took years to form and leaves no gap. They have entirely different ways of handling a situation, yet their personalities mesh and complement each other. Their "if you're dying, I'm dying with you" bond will make your heart all mushy, and no way in hell you wanna miss it! Ps: guys they're straight so don't make the misconceptions I did (cries)
This book very much feels like a TV show, what I mean by that is the book being divided into 2 parts feels like 2 episodes of a fast-paced show that has a bigger storyline at the back that is gonna develop with all the episodes and create a bang at the very end.

The plot moves very fast, this has one of the best pacings in the fantasy books I have encountered. Usually, high fantasies have slow pacing, with tons of world-building, and character introductions that slowly and gradually build up to a finale. Theft of Swords however starts with a banger, you don't need to wait to hit the 60% mark in the book to finally get invested. The first 10% is enough to drag you in. And that is why I think it can be a good start for beginner fantasy readers to switch to epic fantasy.
“I like any plan where I don’t die a horrible death.”
Even though the pacing is fast, no way in hell the author skims over the worldbuilding or the characters, or the plot. You find a really beautiful world encoded into this book, that holds so much mystery to it. The lore in the book is fantastically written. You get the best of everything and it is just a fun ride to go on, one that you need more of after completing!
Theft of Swords isn't your conventional epic fantasy novel, and that is what makes it stand out to me. This book doesn't hide around the bushes and gets straight to the point, without revealing too much. I am more than intrigued to see what the series has in store for me as I start the next book RIGHT AFTER I finish this one, no way in hell I am waiting to read the sequel. AND I highly think that everyone interested in fantasy should at least give this book a try!
