Rick Riordan
“Leo!” Jason was shaking his shoulder. “Hey, man, why are you hugging Nike?”
Leo’s eyes fluttered open. His arms were wrapped around the human-sized statue in Athena’s hand. He must have been thrashing in his sleep. He clung to the victory goddess like he used to cling to his pillow when he had nightmares as a kid. (Man, that had been so embarrassing in the foster homes.)
He disentangled himself and sat up, rubbing his face.
“Nothing,” he muttered. “We were just cuddling.”
Rick Riordan, The House of Hades

Rick Riordan
“Leo smiled nervously. Maybe he and Percy did share something else – a stupid sense of humour.
‘Yeah, I bet that would totally be against her sponsorship deal. THOSE ARE NOT THE OFFICIAL SHOES OF THE OLYMPICS! YOU WILL DIE NOW!’
Hazel rolled her eyes. ‘You’re both impossible.’
Behind Leo, a thunderous voice shook the ruins: ‘YOU WILL DIE NOW!”
Rick Riordan, The Blood of Olympus

Rick Riordan
“Percy muttered. ‘I want to drown her.’
‘Be patient, water boy.’
‘Don’t call me water boy.”
Rick Riordan, The Blood of Olympus

“The giant raised his fist, and a voice cut through the dream.
"Leo!" Jason was shaking his shoulder. "Hey, man, why are you hugging Nike?"
Leo's eyes fluttered open. His arms were wrapped around the human-sized statue in Athena's hand. He must have been thrashing in his sleep. He clung to the victory goddess like he used to cling to his pillow when he had nightmares as a kid. (Man, that had been so embarrassing in the foster homes.)
He disentangled himself and sat up, rubbing his face.
"Nothing," he muttered. "we were just cuddling. Um, what's going on?”
Rick Riordan, The House of Hades

“Look, lady, we're not going to go all HUNGER GAMES on each other. Isn't going to happen.”
Rick Riordan, The Blood of Olympus

Rick Riordan
“He (Leo) forced his fists to unclench. "Look, lady, we're not going all Hunger Games on each other. Isn't going to happen." "But you will win a fabulous honor!" Nike reached into a basket at her side and produced a wreath of thick leaves and laurels. "This crown of leaves could be yours! You can wear it on your head! Think of the glory!”
Rick Riordan, The Blood of Olympus

Diana Rose Morcilla
“Learn everything you can learn now while you are young. If you think you are old now, well let me remind you that NOTHING IS TOO LATE. If you will start it now, you are never too old to do it! Don't wait for another year older for you to learn something new. JUST DO IT. (You listen to Nike!)”

“For some, I realize, business is the all-out pursuit of profits, period, full stop, but for us business was no more about making money than being human is about making blood.”
Phil Knight, Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike

Naomi Klein
“50,000 workers at the Yue Yen Nike Factory in China would have to work for nineteen years to earn what Nike spends on advertising in one year. Wal-Mart's annual sales are worth 120 times more than Haiti's entire annual budget; Disney CEO Michael Eisner earns $9,783 an hour while a Haitian worker earns 28 cents an hour; it would take a Haitian worker 16.8 years to earn Eisner's hourly income; the $181 million in stock options Eisner exercised in 1996 is enough to take care of his 19,000 Haitian workers and their families for fourteen years.”
Naomi Klein, No Logo

“Nike is a good case study for marketing. Throughout the course of Nike's existence, they've managed to establish a really strong brand that is tied not just to image but also to its customers experience with actual value.”
Hendrith Vanlon Smith Jr

Nicole Y. Walters
“With every sunrise, we get to choose ... who we are, what we believe, and how we will live the life the gods have given us. We can’t always choose our circumstances. No. The Fates do that. But we can always choose who we will be and how we will be within them.”
Nicole Y. Walters, Charis: Journey to Pandora's Jar

J.R. Ward
“Just do it,'' she prompted him. Then she rolled her eyes. ''God, you've turned me intro a Nike commercial.”

“Let’s discuss our Swoosh-less Nike sneaker for a moment. My guess is that if you removed the branding from a pair of Nike Dunk sneakers, they would be worth no more than twenty-five percent of their retail price. That means that at least seventy-five percent of the value of a Nike sneaker is tied up in the emotional elements you can’t see or touch, the intangibles. But just because you can’t see them or touch them doesn’t mean they aren’t real.”

For a parallel example, let’s look at Kanye West’s relationship with Adidas. Kanye has little or no athletic prowess—he’s a musi- cian, a tastemaker, a hype man. Whatever you may think of Kanye, he gets people talking and has been able to use his brand to create value for his partners. And that’s exactly what he did when he designed a line of sneakers for Adidas, the Yeezy Boost.
In February 2015, a limited run of his shoes sold out within ten minutes at a retail price of two hundred dollars. The shoes were then released to a wider audience a month later and once again sold out in record time. This is where things start to get interesting. According to Complex magazine, in the following quarter the Yeezy Boost accounted for $2.3 million in sales on eBay, three times the gross sales of its closest competitor, for an average price of $751 per pair. Let’s generously assume it cost Adidas fifty dollars per pair to produce and market a pair of Yeezy Boost. If that’s the case, Kanye West’s creativity is worth $701 per pair, and that doesn’t include the halo value to the overall Adidas brand.”

“Whether at age 33, 53 or 73, you are never too old to own your first pair of Nike Airforce one shoes.”
