*takes a deep breath*

First of all, someone please explain to me how these two books are written by the same person.
Then, someone please explain to me how I loved this so much, despite the presence of things that are usually a turn off for me.

Here’s a snippet of the long conversation I had with M (that uptight bitch living in my head)(I blame you Areeba, btw) :

M: you can’t give it 5 stars. You didn’t even give Archer Hale, Sebastian Stark or Sebastian St Vincent 5 stars! Are you crazy?!
Me:

And

M: Mina, he’s known as the devil and calls her angel
Me: how romantic

M: Jesus, how about this : her first time didn’t even hurt, like not even a little bit.
Me: *happy sigh*

M: they’re 18. You said you were done with high school bullies, didn’t you?
Me: when was that said (I totally said so right before starting the book, catch me at the corner of Liar and Hypocrite)

M: okay, last ditch effort. She used the word “wanton”. You HATE that word.
Me:

M: I don’t get paid enough for this.
Me:

You guys, this is one of the best high school bully stories ever. You know what, it might even be the best, IMO.

After the disaster aka book 1, I was wary and went into this with zero expectations. Maybe that’s why I loved it so much?
Devlin and Blair 💯 owned me. My biggest issue while reading this book was deciding which one of them I loved more, but by the end, Devlin Murphy is my baby and I'd do anything to protect him.

On one hand, we have Blair Davis , aka Little Thief

Strong, smart, resilient, beautiful, brave, selfless and every positive adjective you can think of. Life hasn’t been easy on Blair and her mom. They’re in constant worry of losing the tin roof over their head and not securing their next meal , so much so that Blair’s mom gets sick.
Blair never had the chance to live her teenage years like every kid deserves to and this is all more apparent since she goes to a school full of rich entitled kids, that take joy in making her feel inferior, like trash, or as they like to call her, gutter rat.
She doesn’t have time or energy to deal with their abuse, barbs and disdain, because she’s in survival mode, picking pockets, shoplifting and doing anything and everything to help her mom. Her relationship with her mom was everything my heart needed to grow wings and soar in the sky.
When things get even more difficult, shoplifting isn’t cutting it anymore, and despair settles in her blood like a slow but deadly poison, Blair decides to take it to the next level.
Steal one of Devlin Murphy’s cars, secure the money she and her mom need and dish some sweet revenge on her biggest bully and worst tormentor.

Devlin Murphy aka The Devil of SLHS. Sharp features, beautiful face, devilish smirk, soccer star, rich kid that has it all with an envy-inducing car collection, asshole extraordinaire and Blair’s bully for 3 long years.
Devlin Murphy, fake public persona, soft heart, lost boy and my baby.

I haven’t loved a boy this much since Knox. 😭
Everybody thinks Devlin has the perfect life, and on paper he does. Successful parents, but absent. Big mansion, but empty.
His loneliness wrapped around my heart like a vice, and kept squeezing until I couldn’t breathe anymore.
"No matter how strong I think I am, I’m still the same little boy inside, defenseless against the raw pain of everyone leaving."

Making the poor girl feel like the trash he believes she is soothes something in him, because every time she looks at him, it feels like she sees through his fake mask to his deepest darkest fears and insecurities.
Catching her trying to steal his favorite car, Red, is just the distraction he needs at the moment. They sign a contract. He’ll make her pay, but he’ll pay her for it.
She’s to be his toy, do all of the humiliating (and stupid) tasks he asks of her, and he’ll pay her for her troubles.
Perfect arrangement for all parties, right? Wrong.
Because nothing will ever be the same again.

Blair and Devlin together
She’s always been strong for her mom, having to sometimes step into the mom role herself. She’s never had anyone in her corner, fighting for her and being there for her.
Devlin was her cornerstone, her ally, her home.
“Home is when I’m with you.”

He’s always been lonely, feeling like everybody leaves him eventually. Always waiting for the other shoe to drop, building up his walls so he doesn’t get hurt, as he believes will always happen in the end.
Blair was his salvation, his long lost hope, and his every dream come true.
“I’m not alone. You’re here.”

Honestly, as long as Blair and Devlin are eating well, drinking water, running together and being happy and healthy, I’ll be okay.

Now let’s get to the reasons why I love this to death.

1. No insta-anything. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of my heart wheezing because all this activity is just too much for the poor generally unused organ. This was so refreshing because Blair and Devlin genuinely weren’t attracted to each other in the beginning. Seeing them go through all the stages of their relationship just made me hopeful for the rest of 2020. There is still hope, my friends, this year is not lost yet.
2-10 . Devlin
11-20. Blair
21-30. Blair and Devlin together
31-35. Blair and mom
36-40. Devlin and Bishop
41-45. Devlin and his aunt and uncle
45-∞. Devlin and Blair just being domestic with each other, eating, sleeping, watching stars, talking, etc.

What I’ve come to discover about myself is that I don’t care about plots. Really, I don’t. Just give me my beloved characters doing mundane everyday things and I’m happy.

Also, when I got to the epilogue, I wanted more. I wasn't ready to be done with them.
So imagine my joy when I flipped the page and found "Epilogue 2".

"We match. Black hair. Blacker hearts, dark and frayed by circumstance."

This review is already longer than it should have been, but just one last thing.

If you’re fighting something, feeling desperate, trying to overcome all that life is throwing your way and feeling tired, on the verge of giving up, I’m rooting for you. You’re strong and you can do it. You will do it, and one day, you’ll look back on these times and see how far you’ve come. How high you’ve soared. How big you made it. And you’ll be happy, I promise. 🖤

If you’re feeling lonely, trapped, unlovable, like you don’t deserve love or care, that everyone you love eventually leaves you, that you’re so tired of the same old vicious cycle, that you can’t do it anymore, that there is no one out there for you, I’m thinking of you. You’re strong. You’re special. You’re epic, and one day, you’ll look back on these times and see how far you’ve come. How loved you are. How deserving of that love you are. How incredible you are. How, on your own, you’re everything, but with that special person that I’m sure you’ll find, you’re everything and more. And you’ll be happy, I promise. 🖤

anyone else love it when stars are used as some type of soulmate/love connection between mcs and they connect through shooting stars because they're both so alone and the people they love always leave them so when they were kids they always used to wish under the stars hoping one of them would come true and to take away their pain and one of those wishes was to have someone by their side who won't leave them and lo and behold that someone is their enemy...

... because same.

i think my love for this originated from acomaf because like-
✧ 𝐫𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 // 𝐚 𝐜𝗼𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝗼𝐟 𝗺𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐲
↳ "To the stars who listen - and the dreams that are answered."

✧ 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐥𝐢𝐧 // 𝐭𝐞𝗺𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥 (𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝗼𝗼𝐤)
↳ "You're my shooting star. My wishes come true when I'm with you."

same energy, different font.

but honestly though, are they- are they trying to kill me with these quotes? i don't mind it but it really just makes me feel extra single.

description

anywaaays.

this has the enemies to frenemies to lovers with a dash of forced proximity trope. the hero hates the heroine and pulls pranks on her at school since freshman year and then suddenly, he catches her stealing his car and now he's blackmailing her and forcing her to do things and she gets paid for it as she needs money for her sick mother.

characters
➳ 𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐋𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐔𝐑𝐏𝐇𝐘 (H)
“Thorns encase my heart in a mess of brambles. My own parents don’t love me, so there must be something wrong with me. I belong in darkness”

in the beginning he is kind of- how do i put this lightly... let's see, if he were to ever live during the french revolution, he would go to the guillotine right away. why? because that's how much of a bourgeoisie this dude was. he literally hated the heroine and started bullying her just because she was poor and doesn't belong to their school.

but then he slooowly won me over. honestly, he kinda reminds me of Vicious. they're both bougee and they both have that certain dark vibe you know? i don't really know how to explain it. just know that i like this dude and i wanted to hug him.

his pain of being alone and being neglected by his parents and that's what lead him to being closed off and having this fake persona so that he wouldn't get hurt when people leave him so he doesn't show the real him but in reality, no matter how hard he tries, he still cares when people leave him.. uggghhhh. my heart.

➳ 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐑 𝐃𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐒 (h)
"A phoenix rises from the ashes, born anew from strife. I reform and reshape the person I am, but I don't feel born again.

similar to Devlin, her pain is also about being alone and not trusting men as her father left her and her mother to fend for themselves. and also similar to Devlin, i wanted to hug her too 🥺

she does have a little bit of betraying body syndrome and she even admits to this but honestly? i didn't really care here because i was already shipping Blair and Devlin from the beginning (well maybe not all the time cuz Devlin was very punchable in the beginning).

romance
at first obviously i was a little skeptical since Devlin did pay Blair to do most of the things that lead to anything romantic which is kinda uncomfortable to think about but i don't care cuz of the whole star connection thing. they met when they were kids and during Devlin's lowest point, Blair gave him hope by telling him about shooting stars. uggghhhhh it was so cute.

i love that whole trope and if stars are used as a reason for the mc's love connection in future books, y'all know imma drop everything and read that book. ALSO, the grovelling is nice. since Devlin was Blair's former bully, i loved the way he apologized and the scenes at the end when they reunited again? yeesss.

why not 4+ stars? (spoilers)
to be honest, i just wanted more from this couple. like, when Blair finally moved in Devlin's house, i just wanted to see more cute moments of them emotionally connecting or just being domesticated or scenes with them just bantering. there were scenes like this but there were more sex scenes and a lot of telling less showing. also, i wanted to know how they were at school especially since this aspect was so important in the first half. again, i actually wanted these scenes to be shown instead of told. but yeah, that's it.

* * *

even though the things Devlin made Blair do were cruel... if i were in her shoes i- well, i don't care because $$$. like what is pride? humility? ehh don't know them. i just know i need to buy something from sephora and princess polly and zara. oops.

It’s all about the mask!

In book one of this series, Lucas wore a “mask” in school as the King of the school and the football god while in reality he was a completely different person that he kept hidden inside. He didn’t want to disappoint his parents or the team or all the people counting on him to go bring them a championship and go on to college football and the NFL. However, he just wanted to study architecture.

In this book, his cousin Devlin (aka The Devil) is now a senior and rules the school now that Lucas is off at college doing what he wanted. Devlin wears his own mask that even Lucas was unaware of. Before Lucas left, Devlin spent almost every waking hour with Lucas because his own house is an empty shell. His parents travel for work and are almost never home.

Devlin communicates with his parents by short clinical text messages and rare phone calls. He has housekeepers that he rarely sees. In short, his parents don’t love him, they pay him off with monthly guilt checks and expect him to follow in their footsteps and become a doctor to boost the family name, but other than that would rather not be bothered with him. Though he keeps trying and hoping for something more from them.

Devlin has a habit of bullying the one person in school that doesn’t belong. For some reason he hates her though he doesn’t know why she bothers him so much. Her name is Blair Davis and she is a scholarship student from a trailer park across town. Blair can’t afford a proper school uniform and Devlin has caught her picking pockets so he nicknamed her “Sticky Fingers”. He regularly embarrasses her for being poor and has been known to dump her school lunches on the cafeteria floor a time or two.

When Devlin catches Blair in the act of stealing his favorite car, a Porsche he calls “Red”, he gives her the option of basically becoming his slave for pay or going to jail. Blair desperately needs money because her mother is sick and her father left them with huge debts so she has no option but to do the humiliating things Devlin comes up with for the cash he offers to pay her for each task.

Devlin starts out by wanting to get revenge on Blair for trying to steal from him, by embarrassing her as much as possible and also by showing her how much she doesn’t belong at their fancy private school. But as time goes on, he discovers a connection he has had to her for years and both Devlin and Blair discover how similar they are to each other in many ways.

The world building in this book is terrific and the characters are awesome. I like they way they grow and change throughout the book. I love the supporting characters as well as the steamy romance between Devlin and Blair. I give this five out of five flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 for how sizzling hot the book was. The chemistry between these two was explosive and the intimate scenes were terrific.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

#1 Wicked Saints ↠ 1.5 stars
#2 Tempting Devil ↠ 4 stars
#3 Ruthless Bishop ↠ 2.75-3 stars

We match. Black hair. Blacker hearts, dark and frayed by circumstance. But maybe we can heal our bruises together. Two broken souls finding solace and salvation in the depths of each other’s darkness.

Wicked Saints and Tempting Devils are worlds apart from each other, still can't believe it's the same author who wrote it.

I've said in my Wicked Saints review that I'm kind of over bully romances cause my tolerance level for BS is pretty low, but this book proved that if you do that trope well it can be so good.

Devlin Murphy (H) and Blair Davis (h) are side characters in previous books. Devlin is Lucas' cousin and Blair is Gemma's best friend. In WS we already see a little that Devlin bullied Blair the last few years in high school, because she is dirt poor and doesn't fit in their school.

Blair lives with her mother in a trailer and they have to scrap their way through everything. As a last resort Blair wants to steal one of Devlin's many luxurious cars and sell it. But unfortunately, Devlin catches her in the act and Blair has to make a deal with the devil to not go to jail. The deal is that she becomes Devlin's property and has to do everything he says in exchange for money.

So back at school Devlin gives Blair all kind of tasks to bully and humiliate her. While it's still kind of dumb and immature, BUT AT LEAST Blair can help her mother with the money she's getting so you could say she's humiliated for a reason. And I liked this twist on the whole bully thing cuz usually the girl is bullied for nothing … the least the guy could do is give her money for compensation lol.

Another think I loved about Tempting Devil is the romance development between Blair and Devlin. Usually the H and h are already attracted to each other and somehow the H just can't deal with that attraction and therefore one way or another starts to bully the h. Here, there was neither insta-love nor insta-lust, because Blair and Devlin really couldn't stand each other. While Devlin was an interesting characters, I admit that it took me a little bit until I fully fell in love with him cause he was a dick to Blair. So seeing them gradually going from enemies to friends to lovers was cute af. It was funny how one moment Devlin would threaten Blair and the next second he's like absolute trash for her without realizing it 😂

I love Blair so much. Some people might see what Blair did as "prostitution" like doing all these things for Devlin for money, but when you don't have anything, you're mother is sick and hospital bills are hella expensive. If I'd be Blair, I'd done the exact same thing so my girl did what she had to do to survive. Blair's relationship with her mum was to die for! They are so cute 🥺 it was them against the world for so long until Devlin entered the picture.

And lastly, while the first half was more about the bullying and Devlin getting his revenge on Blair for trying to steal his car, the second half of the book was filled with domestic scenes and I loved it. I'm totally fine with a book having no plot whatsoever and instead filled with scenes where the couple have meals together, watch the stars, go on runs etc. these little moments are so wholesome and the best <3

Now I'm just waiting to collect some devlinblair crumbs in the next book cause in no way Thea and Bishop are going to top Devlin and Blair.

I am so happy I didn't give up on this author after her Wicked Saint and read this awesomeness.

The hero is an unstoppable bulldozer when it comes to getting what he wants.

"Devlin doesn’t just take an inch, he takes a mile."

And it quickly becomes evident that what he wants is Blaire.

"Fuck, I want her. I don’t care if I’m a creep, watching her in secret. She’s mine to watch."

He got it so so bad for her. Devlin was already obsessed with her at the bullying phase of their relationship and then completely smitten/head over heels in love with her further into the story.

Devlin apologises so sweetly and funny 🥺 and cuddles with her and cannot stay away from her🥺🥺🥺 *jealous eyes*.
He acts wickedly (like an entitled asshole actually) and uses all the tricks up his sleeve to get Blaire into his net😂.

" Oh, you naughty little hellcat. You want to get caught? The monster is coming for you"

Deep down he is vulnerable but strong and resolute at the same time. Protective and rough and demanding and mischievous...

I think I am in love 😭😭😭

"She’s in my head, my dreams, my fucking veins. And she won’t get out."

I FINALLY found the book where the heroine is the hero's number 1 priority and he doesn't beat around the bush/ pushes her away/gives a fuck about what other people think or his image or whatever. FINALLY.

P. S. Actually, I loved the heroine up until the scene at almost the very end of the book in which she decided to work as a "sex worker" for one night because she needed money desperately... I mean WTF. She prefers being fucked by some creep to just asking eating out of her palm Devlin for help just because they broke up??? 😅😅😅 Talking about her "not selling my body" principles😑

d i s g u s t i n g b e h a v i o u r a l e r t

I honestly want to throw up. Strong female lead? From where? Which angle? Someone please show me.

So I started reading the book and was immediately bored as it took 6 chapters for the very first scene to end, which was Blair stealing the car, getting caught and then Devlin deciding what to do about it. After they came to an agreement that Devlin would not call the police as long as Blair does exactly what he says and in return he will pay her as well since she is from the gutter, dirt poor and needs the money.

First strike

I skipped a few chapters after that and reached a very beautiful and amazing scene.

“Watch this. I’ve got Raggedy Anne trained good. She’ll do anything I tell her to, like my little doll.”
Blair makes a choked sound and I give her a gloating look. I reach for a big canteen of water Sean carries around and hand it to Blair. It’s full to the brim. Her fingers are cold when they brush mine, accepting the bottle. Discreetly, I mouth how much she’ll earn—three hundred bucks.
“Dump it on yourself.”

Oh and Blair does exactly what she is told because why not? She is getting paid for it.

Strike 2

Blair from the very start should have just said fuck you
and let him call the cops on her instead of being humiliated and be treated like a dog by Devlin. I would have rather her work 2-3 jobs a day to help out her mom than be treated this way from a pathetic dickless guy just to earn some cash. I have NO LOVE for Devlin. Nada. Zero. Every time he whined about his parents abandoning him and not responding to his texts I was like

description

But I was already warned about this being a bully romance right? So maybe at that time Blair thought it was her only option because she might not survive being in jail and didn’t want to worry her mama. so I was like
Mickey, Take a deep breath and let’s continue, hopefully Blair will finally find her backbone that she forgot at home and will finally punch Devlin on his dick and then hopefully make him grovel. A lot. I might still not like him towards the end but at least Blair will hopefully acting like his bitch

description

So after my calming session I continued reading. So after the cafeteria scene mentioned above, Blair runs out with Devlin following behind and he corners her.......

“Give me my money,” I demand, flinging my hand out expectantly. “I did it, so pay me.”
Everything about Devlin is sharp, cut and chiseled like marble. Cold. Hard. Unmoving.
Devlin strokes his chin, cocking his head
“The question isn’t whether you followed orders, but how quickly you obeyed.”
“What?” I breathe, stalking toward him. “Are you kidding me? You didn’t say I had to do it with a time limit. You called me over and told me to—” I lose my words, burned away by my anger. I fling my hands around to fill the space. “—in front of everyone.”
“Don’t fret.” Devlin hitches one shoulder, careless, unfeeling. “You don’t have a reputation to ruin in the first place. You’re only your labels to them. Gutter rat, trash, unwanted charity”

description

“There’s a dangerous undertone in his voice, a jagged sharpness that pricks at my nerve endings and makes my heart race. The scent of leather and ginger surrounds me, intoxicating my senses. My skin feels hot as he leers at the outline of my breasts, the wet shirt plastered to my chest thanks to a full canteen of water.”

“What are you doing?” My voice is edged with a tremor. I clench his crisp shirt in my grip. “We hate each other.”
I should hate him for this. I have to find it before this gets out of hand. But searching inside for any scrap of logic, I turn up none, only the insane spark of attraction.”

4 stars and a praise to the lord for finally finding a good high school romance

this book had some nice quotes but I just couldn't not think about A Court of Mist and Fury and this particular quote while reading it:
"To the people who look at the stars and wish."
"To the stars who listen - and the dreams that are answered"

Tempting Devil was so good! I haven't read a romance that sucked me in this much in like a month, so I'm just so happy! There was just a bit of a twist on the whole bullying thing, which was quite nice and it kept things interesting. The characters were so well-developed, the story was interesting, it didn't feel like there was any filler and the steamy scenes were ✨steamy✨.

The Characters

I found both of them super intriguing and they had a lot of depth. You could definitely see the motivation behind all of their actions, even if what they did was wrong, it was always so in-character consistently throughout the book, which I really appreciated.

I especially loved Devlin, from the first chapter. He may appear like your usual high school popular kid bully, but it is just a facade, which is typical for similar books, but the reasons for the facade and why acts in such way, his trauma and his fighting for every ounce of control he could get, just made so much sense. Truly an amazingly written character and I applaud the author for that.

The Story

The whole plot of the book starts with a "contract" between Blair and Devlin - she has to do whatever he says, and he pays her for it. This is what brings them together and past a certain point, you'd expect that this plot line would be abandoned, but it isn't. Even after they're together, their contract is still there making them wonder if what the other is feeling is truly genuine. I really liked this. Tempting Devil didn't try to be too many things at once, the plot wasn't overwheming, which meant that there was enough timw for everything to be thoroughly ✨developed✨ which we absolutelly love ofc

The Romance

It was just soo sweet aghhhhh. I loved seeing both characters begrudgingly come to terms with their feelings for each other, it was very written and paced imo, and the flirting stage was sooo fun to read hehehe

Them being domestic? The cuetst shit.

Their mutual refuge in the stars and being total soulmates since they were kids? *chef's kiss*

In conclusion, Tempting Devil is a great high school bully romance. It doesn't have too many different plotlines which become confusing, the characters are super well-written, the story is engaging from beginning to end and Blair and Devlin's chemistry is 💯💯💯

Was it me who swore I would have a clean romance February? Nooope, not me

Somehow I ended up reading and connected with the characters. I felt the pain and hole Devlin had in his soul and loved Blair and her witty and sassy comebacks.

What's not to love? Well... A LOT. But it was still worth it in my humble opinion.

4.5 stars ... i had zero expectations going in because the first book honestly bored me but i'm really surprised at how much i ended up loving tempting devil. use of a "make a deal with the devil" trope as a play on devlin's name was well done, and it made this book different from your typical formulaic dark na romances where the popular boy bullies the new girl/shy girl and then they eventually fall in lust with each other etc etc.

devlin and blair have a really twisted relationship in the beginning but i didn't get a sense of power imbalance because blair was a really internally strong character who was willing to do literally anything for her mother. she's not the nerd, she's not the shy girl, she's not a bad bitch, she's just someone trying to make the most of her scholarship opportunity and help her sick mother make ends meet. devlin was a great character too, usually i don't care for the poor little rich boy thing most guys have going on in this genre but he's self-aware which helps and his character development was very gradual and didn't happen because of some traumatic near death experience or big event. one thing i really appreciated about their relationship was they're genuinely compatible and do things together, and sex wasn't used as a plot device for them to catch feelings for each other. the physical part of their relationship happened after they were both internally aware of strong feelings they had for each other.

overall i enjoyed blair and devlin's dynamic a lot and was pleasantly surprised by the this book. the two epilogues at the end were really sweet and i hope we see more of them in the future i would read anything about them ♡

2.5 stars!

Unpopular Opinion ahead!!

I had dnf'd this one before, but decided to give this book a second chance after reading all the four and five stars reviews. I think it's safe to say that I didn't enjoy it the second time around either.

I feel like they jumped up too fast from being enemies to lovers. Like one day they hated each other's guts, and then the next day the hero realised that he can't live without the heroine. Which isn't bad per se, but I wanted them to be sort of friends before realising that they love each other. It was kinda hard for me to believe the sudden change in dynamic between them.

Second, I wanted the bully thingy to last longer. I wanted more conflict, and less of them being all domestic and shit. Don't get me wrong, I love reading main characters just chilling with each other. Take Tora and Poppy for example. I could watch them go to picnics for the rest of my life, braiding each other's hair and never be bored. But, with the characters of this book? Not so much. I skimmed the pages when she went to live in his house.

Also one more thing, the hero's parents are both high profile doctors who love their careers more than their son. So, to make up for their neglect they provide him with money, mansions, expensive cars and things like that. Now, I'm not saying that parents neglecting their kids don't affect those said kids badly or such, but in this case it was way overdone. Like with this dude's inner thoughts and how he thinks he is all broken and dark because mummy and daddy didn't pay him attention is simply ridiculous. The heroine had worse home conditions than him, but she never bitched or victimized herself like this spoiled asshole.

I have a friend who is private tutoring a kid whose condition is more and less similar to the hero. The other day she called me and said, that little shit refused to listen or open his books because his parents didn't give him a Playstation or something. Not only that he said, and I quote 'you're not the only one, there have been thousands of teachers before so don't get too comfortable' just because she told him to pay attention as he was failing classes. Like, the nerve🤬🤬. He deserves a good smacking not coddling. My friend is a saint tho, because if I was in her situation there would be Word Word III. That just proves I could never be a teacher lol. I do not have that much patience to deal with jerks like him.

The 2.5 stars are solely for the heroine. I loved her. I loved how strong she was, how she didn't let the jerk hero or other people in the school who bullied her break her spirit. She loved her mother and did her very best to bring money to the table even doing those stupid tasks the hero gave her and humiliating herself in front of the whole school. I love a heroine who doesn't give two shits about what other people think of her.

Anyways, I'm in the minority with this book which isn't something that usually happens. I hate being the unpopular opinion. I too want to gush how awesome a book was like everybody and not write a semi-rant review. 🥺🥺😤😤

This is my first read by Miss Eden and I am surprise that I enjoy Tempting Devil. It is a bit sappy NA bully romance story. I usually have difficulty rating bully romance because I think bully is a serious issue and should not be romanticized.

As for NA audience, the characters development is OK although I think it can be edited must better especially the banter between Devlin and Blair. The bully actions also can be dramatized. The story/ plot/ twist is OK for NA romance.

Overall I enjoy this book to start my weekend.

This is eons better than the first book!🔥🔥🔥🙌

This story gave me everything I wanted:
- HS setting ✅;
- enemies-to-lovers done right ✅;
- great balance between emotional and physical attraction ✅;
- layered, flawed, compelling and interesting hero ✅;
- the bullying was justified and done with the consent of the heroine ✅;
- the heroine herself had logical motivations ✅ up until her actions at around 80% mark 🛑🤡

Sometimes the chapters from the hero's POV were too flowery and exaggerated to the extreme with talk of his demons, his darkness, etc., but he conquered me the more I read about him. He had such a propensity for love and did it so beautifully😭😭💔💔💔

Highly recommend this book to all who want a great high school story with passion, tension and darker elements 🙌

”You’re my shooting star. My wishes come true when i’m with you.”

It’s been so long since an NA book manages to capture my attention throughout the entire book without me feeling bored or annoyed and it’s so refreshing. The more I read, the more I wanted to kept going and my eyes just kept flying by page after page. The rush I felt reading this...oh how I’ve missed it.

This was a lot better than Wicked Saint hands down. I can see why devlinblair was so hyped up on Twitter and they really deserved it. Usually when I read “enemies-to-lovers” NA books, I tend to feel bored or annoyed around halfway through. However, I didn’t feel that way at all throughout Tempting Devil to my surprise. Every scene with Devlin and Blair is hypnotic and addictive and I couldn’t stop reading.

I must say, this is definitely one of my favourite enemies-to-lovers bully romances. Veronica Eden has written Devlin and Blair so well and the chemistry between the two of them is palpable. Usually what kills me when it comes to books like these is how easily the female character succumbs to the male. One look and she’s willing to give everything to him, even when he continues to treat her like shit. Blair was nowhere near like that. Just like Gemma, I really loved her take-no-shit attitude and fiery spirit. I liked how there was always a balance in dynamics between Devlin and Blair even though he was pretty shitty to her during the first few chapters. That obviously started to change around halfway through the book and I really enjoyed seeing the progression in their relationship.

Devlin was a lot more likeable than Lucas and I love him. I found myself sympathising with him even though he was pretty terrible at the beginning. I hate how authors are always throwing the saddest backstories to characters like these but I can’t help it. I hate Devlin’s parents <3 Apart from that, I guess what makes me like him is how soft and caring he is with Blair.

The part when he asks her out and says his company is the payment? *chef’s kiss*

”Do you have a date for winter formal?”

“No.”

“Will you go with me?”

“How much do I get for it?”

“The pleasure of my company.”

“So, no payment then. You actually want me as your date?”

“I do.”

I also really appreciate when Devlin actually apologises for treating her like crap and acknowledges his mistakes. The bar is so low I know, but I don’t see this often in other books I’ve read. He also starts treating her a lot better and making up to her for what he’s done and those were my favourite parts to read.

Oh and before I forget to mention, them being childhood friends was just the cutest thing ever. If you know me, you’d know I love childhood friends-to-lovers, and this was a lot better because it’s childhood friends-to-enemies-to-lovers. Also the fact that Blair was the one who told Devlin to wish upon a shooting star when they were kids and he’d been doing that ever since.

”It wasn’t until after Blair was gone that I finally saw my first real shooting star. For my first wish, I wished for her to come back. I was mad that she could leave me behind so easily.”

*

”Blair was my first wish, but I always thought it didn’t come true.”

Yeah excuse me while I go and cry.

Lastly, the two epilogues we got at the end were also the cutest things I’ve ever read and I adore Devlin and Blair so much. Overall, I really really enjoyed reading this and I might pick this up again and reread soon.

3.5 ‘Little Thief’ 🌟

I’ll be her own personal nightmare and her salvation all at once.

Tempting Devil is the story how Blair, who is financially unstable, gets into a sticky situation with Devlin, who has literally thousands of dollars as pocket money (courtesy of never present parents), and how she gets blackmailed to humiliate herself to get financial help from Devlin. The premise was intriguing, and the book started with a bang, but I started losing interest for the last quarter of the book. I wanted to love this book so much because it promised something different than the other typical NA books, but that was not the case completely.

Whenever I’m around her, I feel alive. For a short while, I can forget about my demons.

That being said, I did enjoy this book more than the first book in this instalment that focused on Lucas and Gemma. I am grateful that the misunderstanding trope was not dragged out in this book like it was in the past one. Furthermore, I enjoyed how parental figures were present for both characters (Blair’s mom and Devlin’s uncle and aunt), but my heart also broke for Devlin after reading about how he has been neglected basically his entire life by his parents.

Two broken souls finding solace and salvation in the depths of each other’s darkness.

Overall, a good read with entertaining writing! And now the wait begins for next book that features Bishop and Thea. Now, this is a pair that I’m dying to read about considering how Bishop bullied Thea and made her cry even though this book wasn’t even about them. I’m intrigued!

The way I've simped for my boy Devlin here is slightly embarrassing. I wanted to reach into the book and keep him for myself. Sorry I just have a soft spot for the ones w daddy issues.😭 I loved everything abt him and the book. I even liked Blair (except for when she hurt Dev by bringing up his parents😐). I skipped the first book bc why do they have such loving parents?! I'd much rather read abt Bishop.🙄

Her scent faded from my sheets and I’ve taken to walking around with a small bottle of her shampoo in my pocket. I take it out when things become too much, inhaling it while I picture her.
creepy and cute, just how I like em😌

“You’re my shooting star. My wishes come true when I’m with you.” He turns his face, grazing his mouth over my neck. “My heart belongs to you.”

3.75/5 ⭐️
3.25/5 🌶

Tropes:
- bully romance
- poor girl x rich boy
- enemies to lovers
- humiliation in exchange for payment
- heavy degradation + humiliation
- virgin heroine
- “written in the stars” type love
- protective + possessive hero
- high school setting (seniors)

POV: first person - dual

Type: interconnected stand-alone (book two)

After a failed attempt to sell her bully’s car, Blair finds herself making a deal with the Devil to avoid jail time. But Devlin has other plans for the little thief and they all involve a whole lot of humiliation.

I’m a little too sensitive for all the degradation & humiliation. Luckily this lasted for only the first half so we had 50% of other goodness to make up for it. No groveling BUT when the hero falls for the heroine he falls HARD. You learn to love him eventually.

Also, the two epilogues won me over. Such a sweet HEA.

Couldn’t connect to the characters and on the 70% mark I skimmed to the end.
NOTHING SPECIAL HERE.

Devin was all over the place and kinda childish. Blair was slightly better but I couldn’t connect to her. The progress from hate to love wasn’t really done all that will either. This whole book frustrated me.

I’ll go with a 2.5 stars because I did manage to finish the whole book and some parts were kind of entertaining. I don’t think I like bully romance anymore it just doesn’t have that affect on me like it use to.

Wowwww.... WOW... I didn't expect this to be really good... this is very good indeed! I didn't read the first book of this series because i heard the hero was really bad hardcore in a bad way. So i read this one the second, AND IT WAS WORTH IT!

--- NOT LOVE IN FIRST SIGHT.

The hero was having a bad personal problem in his life that made him very confused and angry at the same time. I feel actually bad for the hero...

SO THATS WHY THE HERO NEGLECTED HIS FEELINGS FOR THE HEROINE AT THE FIRST TIME because he was afraid and angry at the same time with his life. Its childish but I understand his reasons...

THE HEROINE didn't like the hero too at first because she knows if she did then its wrong... for her its wrong and ridiculous...

--- THE HERO IS OTT POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE.

--- SO MANY JEALOUS SCENES FROM THE HERO.

--- THE HERO always and always... said to the heroine: YOU ARE MINE.

MINE.

MINE...

YOU ARE MINE.

SAY YOU ARE MINE.

--- MANY HOT SMUT SCENES lol
The hero have always been safe.

--- THE HEROINE IS A VIRGIN!

The hero is not. But idk if he celibate or not.

But both use protection.

--- IT HAS SEPARATION for one time. Because the heroine thought something wrong about the hero and the hero thought letting her go was right when its not at all... ITS ONLY A WEEK AND THEY GOT TOGETHER AGAIN. BOTH ARE VERY LOYAL AND DIDN'T GO TO ANYONE ELSE...

--- SINCE THE HERO OFFICIALLY makes the heroine stays with him and nice to the heroine in a true way, THE HERO DAY BY DAY AND TIME BY TIME HE GREW THIS OBSESSION TO HER...

HE admits in this thoughts and to the heroine sometimes that he obsessed with the heroine. Like literally OBSESSED!

And his words are so cute and hot.

Really romantic 🔥

--- NO CHEATING

--- IT HAS BULLYING from the hero to the heroine and one time it was pretty bad. Probably for many people it was not that bad but for me it was pretty bad. NOT TOO MUCH THO... AFTER THE HERO AND HEROINE STAYS TOGETHER AND KISSED IN FRONT OF THEIR FRIENDS, the hero immediately stops bullying her.

Because he finally knows that is wrong....

--- DRAMA WITH OM but not too annoying. drama with OW but not too annoying either... THE DRAMA IS PRETTY MUCH ONLY BETWEEN THE COUPLE THO... how their feelings, their perspective, their understanding, their whole life, their personal family problems... AND ALL THAT DRAMA WAS NOT TOO ANNOYING...

--- THE HERO AND HEROINE DID PUSH EACH OTHER AWAY... BUT NOT TOO MUCH!!! THE HERO ONLY DID IT like one time and the heroine did it like 4 times i think. Because she was scared...

--- High school safe hot love story!

--- I LIKE THE HEROINE SO MUCH!!! SHE IS STRONG, SASSY AND TOUGHER!

even when the hero was trying to make the heroine jealous by getting closer on his side with some OW (only sit together next to the ow not too much) SHE DIDN'T EVEN GET JEALOUS. When he was bullying her in front of the school, she DIDN'T cry!

She always say the right words to say!

--- HAPPY ENDING... THEY GOT MARRIED AND PREGNANT! FOR SURE THEY WILL BE TOGETHER FOREVER...

--- of course the characters from the first book is on this second book as well.

An enemies to lovers story of two (fated) lovers who began a relationship from an agreement, a keep out of jail card, if you will. The story follows that the heroine is obliged to follow / perform the hero's orders in exchange for money, after she is caught attempting to steal his favorite car. Each exchange becomes more and more humiliating as the hero pays her for each embarrassment he puts her through. At some point this close interaction brings about feelings.

This book contained bullying, dark psychological themes, an alpha hero, a sassy heroine, palatable chemistry, steaminess, and most of all, love. It weaved a beautiful picture of two initially crossed characters finding affection. It was a slow burn, stoking the flames of love, unbidden and wonderfully realized. However, the less progressive pace at times was distracting, losing my attention. The love scene didn't occur until almost 70% into the book. Yes, there was some definite build up, but way too much, too long, and unnecessary.

The character development was great -- wonderfully rendered hero's and heroine's perspectives, inner thoughts and burgeoning feelings, their unwitting connections and similarities they didn't realized they shared. This story may appear to be a new adult, bully, and dark, but I would characterize it as a love story with feeling bordering on the mature with the trials and depth, but not especially dark.

Overall, I enjoyable, excellent character and situational development. At times, though, I found it so descriptive that the slow burn began to crawl — undeservedly so. Still, a potential great read that others, especially those liking a slow burn, will enjoy.

Ok, I absolutely adore when stars are used as a connecting link/ plot line because ahh I might have a thing for them. Seriously, think about them combusting and burning light years away, and lighting up our sky. Those huge balls of fire and flammable gases with sparks flying on their surface and filled with so much energy. Think about their light traveling over distances completely inconceivable by human standards and illuminating the cloak of midnight and just....glowing, always, in my part of the world or yours.

"She’s in my head, my dreams, my fucking veins. And she won’t get out."

The 'make a deal with the devil' theme roused my curiosity and it served. Also, those epilogues, they were so damn good. The character development was carried out really great and the overall pace of the story contributed so much to how beautiful of a read 'Tempting Devil' became. Blair and Devlin as characters were incredibly written and true to themselves.

Devlin and Blair gave me some major soulmate energy. Missing parts of a whole? Puzzle pieces that just match? Yes. Their backstory was every-damn-thing! It's just something about the had-one -intense-bond-even-when-they-were-kids trope. Idk how realistic that is but there. ✧✧✧

"We've always matched. Our bruised hearts are intertwined and ending, tender and in need of the kind of love we give each other."

Absolutely no words as to how much I really enjoyed and loved these characters.

Tempting Devil is the second book of the Sinners and Saints series. It’s Devlin and Blair’s book and it was filled with so much chemistry between them!

Blair Davis is one of my favorite female characters because she always stood up for herself and really cared about the people close to her. I liked that she never let people simply walk all over her and tried to make the best out of unfortunate situations. I really enjoyed reading her pov because her personality was really enjoyable to read as much as her thoughts.

Devlin Murphy was a character that really interested from the first book. You always have these mysterious secondary characters in the beginning of the series and now we finally get to know his past and his life. I was able to understand some of the actions he took and the way he felt towards certain things. The past he had with Blair was something that was good for the story because you actually get to know what is it that happened between them and why it had such an affect towards him and his emotions. Overall, I really liked the moments between Devlin and Blair and the way their emotions finally got the best of them.

Veronica Eden really did surprise me with this one. It was so well written that I wanted so much more cute moments between the characters. I can’t wait for what’s in store for the rest of the series!
