Let's be honest here. Who honestly thought 'Gone' would be an awesome-blow-your-socks-off book? I certainly didn't. A series like 'Gone' isn't exactly my usual dose of reading. So when I saw it in my library, I hesitated. From what I had known, 'Gone' was basically about all the adults disappearing and it was a horror book. Nonetheless, I picked up a copy and on a particularly boring evening, I flipped open the first page. I didn't stop reading till 12:30AM.

A series like 'Gone' isn't exactly my usual dose of reading. So when I saw it in my library, I hesitated. From what I had known, 'Gone' was basically about all the adults disappearing and it was a horror book. Nonetheless, I picked up a copy and on a particularly boring evening, I flipped open the first page. I didn't stop reading till 12:30AM.

Immediatly, I was sucked into the world of Perido Beach and I almost instantly connected with the main character, Sam. I found myself reading and reading not out of curiousity but for a NEED to know what would happen next in the world our characters titled the FAYZ.

In the first epic novel, we are introduced into a world without adults, or more like anyone over the age of 14. Sounds like a paradise right? Wrong. I've had that dream before, a world without authority. Usually though the dreams are all happy with an overwhelming supply of treats, late bedtimes and movies. But 'Gone' takes this scenario realisitically. I can actually imagine the scenes playing out because it is exactly what kids will do. They, unlike adults, won't initially care about rationing food or about assigning jobs. They're kids and the author doesn't make them any different.

I want you to imagine a world where anyone over 14 is gone. That includes anyone: teachers, older siblings, parents, cops etc. It's a world run by kids for kids. What's the worst that could go wrong? Everything. Bullies rule this new 'world', theft is tolerated and an overall amount of laziness occurs. But with no one working, where will more food come? energy? water, even? Who will take care of the little children? How will everything continue? Short answer: It' won't.

But this is the least of everyone's problems when Caine and the kids from Coates, a rich boarding school, show up. In the beginning, they are welcomed kindly, even admired by a few. But when Caine starts to show his true colours, can Sam, the genius Astrid, backstabbing Quinn and loyal Edilio save the day? Because these are no ordinary kids. Remember when I asked you to imagine a word without people aged 14 years and over? Well think of that PLUS children developing mutant powers (teleporting, speed, strength etch). I repeat, this is no paradise ...

It truely baffles me how an author can create such a good novel that it causes reactions from the readers. I felt like screaming at the books at times (until I realized the characters couldn't hear me). Michael Grant is truely a phenominable writer with his imagery and fantastic character development. I have no idea how he could write such a novel but I am glad he did. It was amazing and I can't wait to dive into the second novel, 'Gone'.

As a side note, who prefers Caine over Sam? I know Sam is the big hero who saves the day and such but I honestly always love the evil bad boys MUCH better. Take Harry Potter for example, my favourite character is Draco Malfoy. Anyone else? ...more

I know, I know you look at my rating of my review, and probably are going, "What the heck is she thinking?", but in all honesty this book just didn't do it for me, which was disappointing especially I have heard people really enjoyed this book as well as the rest of the series, and couldn't wait until the next one would be release. I'm sorry to say, I'm not one of them.

Have you ever started a book without any intention of liking it and then totally falling in love with it. After finishing Gone in two days I felled relieved that I also borrowed the second book, Hunger, at the library. Now I only need to do is go back to bed and start reading. I can truly say this book is awesome, Michael Grant you just earned a place in my top ten of favourite authors.

I loved this book! First of all, I loved that it is definitely a dystopian type of book but it doesn't have that really heavy feel of the normal dystopian. Its more of a lighter dystopian and that made this book that much better for me. I mean don't get me wrong, I love my dystopians with more of a heavy feel but its nice to see a dystopian that doesn't feel as heavy as others. I loved this book! First of all, I loved that it is definitely a dystopian type of book but it doesn't have that really heavy feel of the normal dystopian. Its more of a lighter dystopian and that made this book that much better for me. I mean don't get me wrong, I love my dystopians with more of a heavy feel but its nice to see a dystopian that doesn't feel as heavy as others. That being said, the lighter feel definitely made it a quick read for me. This book is close to 600 hundred pages but I read it in the span of one day. It was such an easy reading page turner. Now, I have a feeling the other books in this series will get more serious and heavy but for being the first book in this series I really liked that the book was easy to get into. I also really loved the mystery behind why everyone 15 or older just disappeared and the power plant seemed to be the center of it all.

Sam & Astrids group. So I am definitely on their side. They were always trying to do what was right, even when Caine and his group rolled into town and took over. It really pissed me off that everyone got all pissed off at Sam when he went off with Astrid to find her brother. He was trying to help his friend find her brother. Its not his fault everyone was looking up to him as the leader when he didnt want that role pushed onto him in the first place. I mean granted, he takes on the role at the end of the book but thats after a lot of extenuating circumstances. I couldnt believe what Astrid & Sams group had to go through. I mean seriously. It was obvious that Sams group wasnt the dangerous one even with those with the power in it. It just got on my last nerve that his group went through hell because of the power hungry group (Caine's group) saying they were so dangerous when in reality, it was Caines group that was the most dangerous. Ugh! I do love Sam & Astrid though. They really are a cute couple (not that their admitting it) and they really do work well together (both couple wise, and survival wise). I still cant believe that Little Petey (Astrid's Brother) was behind the FAYZ happening though! So didnt see that coming!

Caine's group. I didnt like them from the start, well except for Computer Jack. He was always a nice person and was seriously being taken advantage of by Caine and all his groupies. I hated how they just barged into town and took over. It was like, are you kidding me??? It jjust went downhill from there. I hated how they let Orc and Howard hurt whoever they wanted if they thought someone was doing something wrong. I also despised Drake with a burning passion. Drake was just downright sick in the head. All he wanted to do was hurt or kill people. I mean I dont exactly like Orc or Howard but they are nothing compared to the menace Drake is. I also disliked how Caine thought he could do as he pleased after taking over, including doing whatever he saw fit with those he found out had a power. I just disliked Caine and his group for so many reasons. But it was just the fact that they thought they were better than everyone because they went to the Coates Academy. Ugh!

I was so shocked again about what Little Petey did! And I was also shocked to find out that Caine and Sam are brothers, especially with how different they are. And the fact that Caine was so willing to kill his own brother! I mean seriously?!?!?! I must say. I was glad Sam was able to fight disappearing on his birthday, but I was disappointed that Caine was able to do the same thing. I also really want to know more about this Darkness and what it wants! ...more

This book was ahhh-mazing!!! I loved it and could hardly put it down! I can’t wait to get my hands on the second book, because the first one was a “green-tinged” blast! lol (You will understand how funny that is once you’ve read the book!) :))
