Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Promise, Part 2 (The Promise, #2), Gene Luen Yang

Aang and Katara travel to the city of Ba Sing Se to meet with Kuei. Upon arriving in the metropolis, Aang learns that an Avatar Aang fan club has been set up to honor him.

Aang briefly enjoys the company of his fans, since they remind him of his old life among the Air Nomads.

The two teenagers then try to convince Kuei to meet with Zuko, but the Earth King, in an attempt to appear strong after Long Feng's manipulation of him, states that he will order troops to Yu Dao to ensure the completion of the Harmony Restoration movement (HRM).

Aang and Katara return to Yu Dao to try and convince the colonists to evacuate before the Earth Kingdom army arrives. ..

4.5/5 stars rounded up

This was even better than the first one.
Full of lessons that were so prevalent in Avatar, The Promise part 2 is a treasure for all of the true Avatar fans.
Can't wait to see what the conclusion brings.

"Metal is just a part of the earth that's been purified and refined. But how does it becomes like that? By getting heated, melted, and pounded. By going through pressure and pain."

That got intense real quick. I started this second issue been a bit concerned... ok, a lot, about how things were gonna progress since the way things ended in the last one was not very reassuring, and I end it even more concern.

Yes, I already know how things are bound to end -thanks Legend of Korra - but the road to get there is giving me anxiety.

We followed three side stories: Sokka's and Toph's, Aang's and Katara's, and Zuko's and at least two of those three were pretty intense.

Sokka and Toph's little side story was a nice way to get some break in the tension of all the pieces falling into place, and, well, they made me laugh a lot. The lily-livers are completely insane, but at least they have their hearts in the right place... I guess.

"I tasted my own stomach when we were halfway down but by the end... not a bad way to travel. "

Something really big and important needs to happen for things to get better and quick, or else things are gonna get ugly.

I love Toph’s storyline with her Metal Bending Academy and her three students.
Toph and Sokka were my favorite characters in the tv show, so putting them together for a storyline just made it so much better for me.

Easily as good as part 1, although I could do without all the ‘sweetie’ comments. I especially enjoyed the developments towards the end of this volume and the cliff-hanger ending!

So happy I decided to give these books a try. I was craving the fun I had with the Airbender tv show up & these books definitely have the same vibe and fun level!

This was pretty enjoyable, but still had the sickeningly sweet romance that was in the first book. And there were some other small things I didn't like.

Katara and Aang still call each other sweetie, and Katara even gets jealous when they go to a fan club for Aang, full of excited, squealy girls. Based on what I saw from the TV show, I doubt that the romanca would move from a random kiss to calling each other those sorts of names. Nobody really uses those terms when they're in a relationship. Old people call younger people sweetie. People in a relationship don't.

I liked how Toph's metalbending school was explored more in this book. It would be difficult to teach students something that isn't really perfected. It's kind of discouraging sometimes, but it really shows all the characters going off onto their own path.

There also still is the humor. It can be childish sometimes, but I still love it. I will laugh out loud sometimes. It was just really cute.

I wish that there was more of Zuko, since he is my favorite character. He does have to make a hard decision on what to do for the Harmony Restoration Movement.

I like the political parts, showing why amd why not the fire nation colonies should be taken out.

Man, things would just be so much better if the romance wasn't sickening. It still was a really fun story!

"Promises shouldn't be broken. Not ever."
Another great Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novel! I loved the storyline of The Promise: Part Two, particularly because it featured two of my favourite ATLA characters: Zuko and Toph. I just love Zuko so so much. He is a precious smol bean. Bless him.

Again, I read this a while back, so I can't accurately say that I was surprised or anything, but there was one particular scene in here that was burned into my memories and I have never been able to forget.

I did really like the parts with the metalbending students and Zuko's turmoil. I actually don't think I've read volume 3 before, so... here we go. 4/5 stars.

This one picks up where the last one left off. Aang and Katara go on their adventure to speak to the earth kingdom leaders. Toph trains her new recruits. Zuko deals with more political decisions with his father. The zuko stuff is easily the strongest bit, and getting more of his past is interesting. Aang stuff is good, funny here and there. Toph, who I usually love, gets a dull story here. While good, not as strong as volume 1.

Tooth’s students get sort of annoying and one-note, but everything else is solid. Zuko speaking with his father was great, the growing conflict between Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom was fabulous. There’s even nuance and fractures within each faction which was nice to see.

Second Read:
This volume sets up the tension within the Avatar world. The Earth and Fire Kingdoms are on the brink of war and Aang is caught in the middle. Zuko has some tough choices ahead though his story lines are always awesome! On a brighter note, Toph and Sokka have some pretty cool moments with Toph's students. This issue felt exactly like an episode from the animated series, it was so good and makes me so excited to read the conclusion!

First Read:
Wow okay so this comic took me almost 3 months (off by one day!) to complete! That is ridiculous!! But anyway, on to the review.
I have to say the illustrations in this comic are just awesome. I have been reading really old Batman comics and returning to this one is like a breath of fresh air. It is so beautiful and detailed and the colours really pull you in. The story line progressed quite well, originally the gang was together (for like the first two pages and that was it) but Toph and Sokka went one way, to build Toph's new metal bending school and Aang and Katara went another, to talk to the Earth King about the events which transpired in the first volume. For Toph and Sokka, it was difficult to get the students to metal bend and for Aang and Katara, they needed to stop the Earth King from waging a war against Fire Lord Zuko. Speaking of Zuko, he continually snuck in to visit his imprisoned father, which didn't always turn out the way he expected it to. Also, Aang and Katara met a 'few' fans of the Avatar and Toph and Sokka were duelled to the sit for the building that housed Toph's new school. It was all very interesting (despite how long it took me to finish this comic). I loved the different types of relationships you saw in this comic. The writers were not afraid to show what kind of person a character was or how they connected to other people. I have a feeling that the next volume is going to get even better and I cannot wait to find out what happens next!

SPOILERS FOR AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER SHOW!

The men in this graphic novel/show I swear. I can feel my heart breaking a little as I read this. I absolutely love Zuko and he is going through so much in this graphic novel. At the same time, I find that I appreciate the fact that Zuko is going through all this. He has always struggled with the line between good and evil and I am loving seeing him struggle with it a bit as it makes him more human.
This part of the graphic novel was about trying to resolve the issues that arose in the first part of this. It featured all the characters equally and in a way that I found really interesting. It shows that the characters still need to grow a lot. They may have saved the world but that doesn't mean that they are perfect. They struggle with doing what's right and wrong.
I also appreciate that the characters are seeing that things aren't just black and white in this. There is no good and evil but gray area's and a lot of them are struggling with that. All the characters have been taught that there is good and there is evil and no in between which is wrong. I love seeing that writer and artist attack that issue in this.
I am excited to read the final part as I am finding these really interesting to read. I am so excited to continue.

Sigh...what wouldn't I give to be trained under Toph! This graphic novel was beautifully scripted and illustrated. All my favourite characters coming back, just a teensy-tiny bit older and having their epic adventures :)

Excellent!

Leído para el 2015 Reading Challenge #40. Una novela gráfica.

¡Woooooooow!
