MEGHAN

My husband is a cheating bastard.

If it weren't for my daughter, I'd have gotten rid of him years ago. But I don't want my sweet Hazel growing up the way I did. So I've continued putting up with Cole's indiscretions. But this time around, Cole crosses a line that he can't come back from. And I'm going to teach him a lesson he'll never forget.

--------------------

COLE

I love my wife dearly, but she needs some serious help.

Ever since her traumatic brain injury, she hasn't been the same. She's constantly accusing me of cheating on her. Yes, I've made mistakes, but that's in the past, and I've apologized for those. Now, I think she might even be following me to work. She's taking things too far. I don't know how much more of this I can handle. The only problem is, I'm afraid that if I try to leave her, she'll kill me.

“He tries to act like he isn’t interested and like he would never cheat on his wife. But I know he wants me. Probably more than he’s ever wanted her”

Cole only hires the prettiest assistants. A compulsive liar, professional gaslighter and serial cheater, he’s playing a hazardous game. After all, a woman scorned is a dangerous woman, indeed. And his wife is no exception.

The characters in this book are CRAZY! I enjoyed the multiple points of view and the short and engaging chapters. I empathised with Megan, and was totally behind her getting revenge on her rat of a husband.

There were some good twists, but I did find it a little predictable and a bit drawn out in places. However, it did keep me engaged and turning those pages!

“Don’t worry, Valeria. Soon, you’ll be ancient history, just like the rest of Cole’s little playthings”

Thank you to NetGalley and Red Raven Publishing for my advanced copy.

This was my first SHADE novel and man was it good! I loved this psychological drama! This story follows Meghan, Cole and Hazel. This family had it all together until Meghan got into a wreck that messed her up pretty badly. Now the parents fighting Hazel feels like she’s always caught in the middle and she’s just trying to stay out of the way. There are so many details that I want to share but you’ll just have to read it to find out! This book is definitely worth reading!

Meghan is frustrated with her husband Cole for cheating, but she stays with him for the sake of their daughter. However, when Cole crosses a line, Meghan decides to teach him a lesson. Cole loves his wife but believes she needs help since her brain injury has changed her behavior. He denies cheating and fears for his safety if he tries to leave her.

What an engaging read! This is my first time delving into the works of this author, and I am surprised I haven't come across more of their books before. I thoroughly enjoyed this cleverly crafted story, filled with unexpected twists and turns at every corner. The narrative was at times eerie and incredibly unpredictable, keeping me on the edge of my seat and even holding my breath at times.

The plot was well-developed, with plenty of surprises that made me question my assumptions. I highly recommend this book, especially if you have the time to immerse yourself in a binge-reading session. It's a page-turner that will keep you hooked until the very end.

Thank you Booksirens and Shade Owens for digital ARC copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a page-turner that centers on infidelity and the havoc it causes in a marriage. Meghan is married to Cole a serial cheater. Following what appears to have been an accident that has left her disfigured and partially paralyzed, she has to contend with him cheating repeatedly with the assistants he hires. But there is more to their marriage being held together barely by the presence of their daughter, Hazel. There was a level of implausibility to the story that lost it a star but otherwise an enjoyable read. I received an advance copy of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily. 4 stars

A compelling read, with short chapters making it even harder to put down.

When reading Cole’s first chapter I thought “ugh, you can tell this was written by a man” but I quickly realised it was actually just well written, with each character having an authentic, believable voice - busy husband, anxious wife, angsty teen… and the mystery diary entries.

Had me second guessing who everyone really was and what was really going on. Towards the end of the book the truth is revealed little by little, then all at once with a satisfying ending.

Fans of Frieda McFadden will enjoy the style and pace.

I love Shade Owens’ thriller novels, so I was excited to read this one. It definitely didn’t disappoint. This domestic thriller is full of suspense and delivered through short chapters, which I really appreciate. There are various POVs to keep things interesting and nonstop twists and turns that are unpredictable. Entangled in a serious game of cat and mouse, I wasn’t sure who had the advantage over who. I was entangled in the pages right along with these characters. Working hard to determine what was true and what wasn’t had me up late at night in a trance. I just had to know what was going to happen in the end. The drama in these pages was at an all time high! Another great piece of work by Shade Owens! Her suspense/thriller novels are definitely auto reads for me now.

Thank you NetGalley, Booksprout, and Red Raven Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The twists and the turns my goodness! You just kept second guessing. Towards the end something did become predictable once all the piece came into but I loved it! And the multiple points of view was a nice touch! The past and the present. The past gives you a good insight to everything going on in the book and how crazy some people can actually be. And I have a feeling that while the story ends on a good note for some the story might not be over for others! I would 100% recommend this book!!

I finished this book wondering, why haven't I read more Shade Owens This book had everything I like. It's a domestic suspense, with quick readable chapters, different points of view, surprise after surprise that made me go, "whoa, I didn't see that coming!", and a plot that wouldn't let up.

Implausible? Yes, and? It's the telling of the story that matters - Meghan, her cheating husband (or is he?), the mistresses (or are they?), and a whole lot of gaslighting.

What an absolutely fantastic read! This one had me all over the place with theories, a few that panned it in the most delightful way. The husband is a disgusting individual, how she stayed with him I will never understand. The wife is psychologically deranged (partially due to traumatic brain injury). Her mood swings were unhinged. The daughter was caught in the middle. I didn’t know what was really going on and what was a delusion. This kept me interested and engaged the entire way through!

Wow! I just finished this and I’m so impressed by the story telling. Twists, turns, hidden truths, secrets, motives, relationships - so much. Definitely kept my interest and the chapters were just the right length for me. There are several perspectives which is intriguing how they each perceive what the others have happening or how they are feeling - Meghan, Cole, Hazel, a diary … where does the truth lie? Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is a solid 3.5 ⭐️

I found myself enjoying this book from the start. The twists and turns had me guessing throughout the entire story. I wasn't expecting the ending at all!

The healing in Hazel and Megs relationship was well done. The way Meg was able to prove her own innocence and her husband's infidelity was priceless and left me laughing. Talk about karma. I feel he deserved more punishment for the gaslighting, lying, cheating, and for putting his family in danger.

There were many times I felt I was re-reading the same thing over again with the back and forth in timelines that had me questioning myself along with Meg. I felt the story line with Megs mother and her past were unnecessary. It took away from the flow of the main plot.

Overall, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it. The writing styles remind me of Fredia McFadden with a little Jeneva Rose.

I have not heard of this author before which is why I requested this book as I love discovering new writers, I found the book to be more like a family drama to be honest but with thriller elements thrown in.

Meg is married to Cole, and they have a teenage daughter Hazel. Cole has a history of affairs of which Meg has been aware of for many years but as a mother she is trying to shield her daughter from knowing this. Meg suffered a brain injury several years ago and at times Cole has used and continues to use this against her, many times inferring that it is the injury that is clouding her judgement and trying to portray himself as a wonderful husband. Hazel thinks her father is amazing and does not understand why her mother seems to always be angry at him and herself at times. He always stands up for her and allows her to get what she wants. Hazel is also feeling angry, as she feels her mother is constantly on her back and wants her mother’s love and support more than anything.

As the book progresses Meg at times is questioning herself, are there still actions she does that are clouded by residual affects from her injury, or more so is what she believes true, that her husband is a lying cheating bastard and always has been. Cole is now regularly coming home late which is very distressing for Meg as she knows what is really going on, her unfaithful husband is just that. At one point she begs him for some intimacy as this is lacking in her life and she misses being loved, especially by the man she married.

Soon this becomes a game of cat and mouse as we must question who is playing who. Will what Cole has done be her tipping point, and will she decide she has finally had enough? At this point, the book becomes much more interesting and the action ramps up.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I discovered Shade Owens in January when I was added as an ARC reader of her first thriller and let me tell you, as soon as I see she has a new ARC available I IMMEDIATELY request! This is my 3rd this year and each one has been amazing.

This one has a little thrill, a bit of psychological intrigue, and a whole lot of emotional connection to the characters. I would categorize this as a psychological drama. The plot is well built, the characters are thoroughly developed, and the psychological damage they inflict on one another is jaw-dropping. I enjoyed the alternating POV’s and timelines as well and felt able to emotionally connect with the characters through their thoughts and circumstances.

Cole, Meghan, and Hazel’s lives are flipped upside down when Meghan is involved in an accident leaving her with brain damage and physical deformities. As the parents and their young teenager re-learn life together, they each begin to realize life will never be what it was before.

Cole works hard to provide for his family, but Meghan’s angry outbursts and paranoia threaten to tear them apart. Hazel finds herself caught in the middle frequently, and begins avoiding her parents by staying with her best friend and his foster family as often as possible.

I won’t give more details, because I do not want to spoil the surprises discovered as you go on this journey with this family. I will say to buckle up, because you DO NOT see those twists (plural…..) coming.

Thank you BookSirens and Shade Owens for the opportunity to devour yet another ARC. My review is 100% voluntary, and I 100% recommend this book along with Shade’s other thrillers.

The Webs You Weave pulled me deep into its world with the first chapter. The mystery and suspense kept me hanging on page after page. Oh and let me tell you a bit about the many twists and turns that kept me glued to my seat as I raced to the end. There were so many twists and turns that I couldn’t keep up with them. I never saw the twists coming. The Webs You Weave kept me in the dark wondering what was actually happening.

Meghan thought her husband Cole was cheating on her. He says he wasn’t or he had in the past but that part of his life was over. He says he had apologized more than once. What else did she want from him? He says it is all in her head. Meghan had been in an accident in the past that left her with a TBI or traumatic brain injury, paralyzed on one side and her face disfigured.

I had a hard time trying to figure out what was true and what may not have been true. I couldn’t figure out if Cole was cheating on her or not even though there did seem to be evidence pointing to it.

The more I read the more of the story was revealed and all the pieces started to fall into place I began to understand what was going on after all. It made more since then as to what was happening.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Webs You Weave with all the suspense and drama that was going on in Cole, Meghan, and Hazel’s lives. This is one book that is going to stay with me for a long time to come.

I highly recommend The Webs You Weave to all those mystery and suspense fans! Grab a copy of The Webs You Weave today!

📕 Title: The Webs you Weave by Shade Owen

📑 Pages: 367

🔪 Genre: Psychological Thriller

🚨 Triggers: car accidents, fighting between marital couple, fighting between mother and teen, cheating

🌟 Rating: 5/5

This book was SOOO good! So many twists and turns! I couldn’t pick out what was really happening and what was main characters imagination or possibly happening in the aftermath of her car accident.

Meghan has been paranoid and overwhelmed since car accident. But With the knowledge that Cole has cheated before with his secretary is he doing it again?

Hazel doesn’t stop fighting with her mom and taking dad’s side. She also seems embarrassed to be seen with her since her face was disfigured.

Cole claims that part of his life is over and has never cheated again. He needs a secretary because he has been promoted and has a heavy work load.

But then there’s Valeria. So pretty and such a perfect figure. Could Cole resist? Especially if we have a glimpse that Valeria wants him?

Someone is messing with Meghan. Even ran into her at the market purposely and told her Cole is hers. Was it Valeria??? So many questions and so many webs!

You must read this 5 star read! I read in 1 sitting and Shade Owen’s has not disappointed. I am so honored this is my 3rd ARC of hers I have read and it’s brilliant! She is my go to author now. This story opens with what seems to be some sort of accident; this is later confirmed. Megan’s life has been turned upside down. Meanwhile, a year later, Megan has done her best to move on with her daughter, Hazel, and husband, Cole. Unfortunately, the accident really did uproot every aspect of Megan’s life. The only constant? Her marriage is not what it seems.

The perspectives in the story shift from Megan, to Cole, to Hazel, to someone’s diary. While this provides insight the reader might not otherwise get, it is also a distraction. I found myself rooting for Megan, only to have to shift later to Cole, then back again. Even more distracting are the shifts in time. In one chapter we are in the present and in the next, it is fourteen years earlier. It all makes sense by the end, but I found myself really frustrated - especially in the beginning - and wishing the perspective would remain consistent.

While I enjoyed this book at times, it often seemed like the reader was missing information. I don’t want to reveal too much here, but in an effort to provide a twist at the end, details are withheld throughout the story. Again, by the end it works, but it makes for an awkward and sometimes aggravating read.

Overall, I was glad to finish this story. It felt like a chore to read and although the end was good, it was hard for me to get to that point.

Review:

The way this book had me in a chokehold is absolutely crazy and so is Meg and other characters throughout the book but won’t say much more about them. The way this book took me on a roller coaster with the twist and turns will have up all night saying just one more chapter. The way Shade Owen’s just throws the twist in the will have you reading the sentence a couple of times I know I did.

Meghan has a lot on her plate. She’s recovering from a terrible accident that left her disfigured and with lasting brain damage. She thinks her husband is cheating on her, and her teenage daughter is pulling away. The story is told from three points of view: Meghan, her husband Cole, her daughter Hazel, and a mysterious person writing diary entries.

Now that is one messed up family (they make the best thrillers). What I loved the most is that from the start, Cole is portrayed as an asshole, and the more we learn about him, the worse he gets. He has absolutely no redeeming qualities, except maybe that he loves his daughter. Meghan is tricky at first; we’re not sure if she’s paranoid or reading too much into things (turns out she’s not), but I found her to be a very compelling character. Even though some of the ways she goes about things are a little insane (get a divorce, girl, just do it), I loved her relationship with Hazel. That’s the one thing that never changes throughout the book—they both love each other a lot, even though they don’t know how to communicate anymore.

Some of the twists are a bit too much, but they’re fun if you suspend disbelief for a second. I did love Katya; you go, girl, taking one for the team by doing very crazy and not recommended things.

Thanks to BookSirens and Shade Owens for this ARC.

The Webs You Weave by Shade Owens is a kind of mad psychological thriller that will make you question - what the heck is going on?
This was an easy read! You dive in and just demolish it in one go!
No jumping back and forth in time. There were some past events but just to complete the story.

The main characters Megan, Cole, and daughter Hazel have some characteristics to like and dislike at the same time none of them are truly I love or hate ones.

I guessed some twists but really close to the twist reveal so can't say I saw them coming. And I loved the ending! It was a perfect Saturday read!

Megan survived a heavy accident and was left with one side paralysed. It's affected her work life, her marriage and sadly her relationship with her daughter Hazel.
Cole... hm... I don't know what to say about Cole... He is there when he is needed but does not show any extra effort, he is just there... There is nothing special about him!
Hazel is a confused 14-year-old who is trying to deal with her emotions and in some way the trauma of nearly losing her mother. She comes across as sharp but we can feel that she is just trying to protect herself.

There are enough layers to unwrap, enough secrets to discover and the most important part - it's just easy to enjoy this story!

Thanks, Booksirens and author for this copy!

This story follows married couple Meghan and Cole, as well as their teenage daughter, Hazel. Meghan has finally had it with Cole's affairs, She decides to take matters into her own hands and teach him a lesson. On the flip side of things, Cole thinks that Meghan hasn't been her self since her traumatic brain injury. She is constantly accusing him of cheating. Cole acknowledges that he made mistakes in the past, but he apologized. He now thinks Meghan is obsessed with finding evidence of him cheating. He's scared of how far she might go to get proof...

All the characters in this book were crazy and super interesting! I really liked the short chapters and the multiple POVs. It is super engaging and really hard to put down.

I was very excited to read Shade Owens' latest novel after loving Beneath These Walls. The Webs You Weave was also very good, but I did prefer Beneath These Walls. I found The Webs You Weave a bit predictable and drawn out at times. Still good, though! Cannot wait for Owens' next novel!

During this whole book I was trying to figure out what kind of crazy Meg had. Was she actually delusional? Was she imaging herself as those women and that’s where the diary entries were coming from? At one point I thought she would black out and become someone new and that’s why her husband was “cheating” or her. But Omg I did not see it coming.
The storyline was so meticulously planned and well thought out and everything connected without being so obvious that you figure out what’s happening before it happens.
Meg’s background with being abused when she was younger gave a lot of depth to her story and motivations and character without being the whole focus of the book which I really enjoyed. While things like that stay with you for a while and are portrayed that way in books, it was nice to see a depiction of someone not letting it cloud who they are while still acknowledging that it made her who she is.

I’m dying for a short story/ epilogue to see what happens after Cole gets out of prison. I’m also really glad he got time for being the absolutely disgusting human being he is.

I received this copy for free and these are my thoughts on it.

Thank you, BookSirens for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Cole has a countless history of cheating; that's why her wife, Meghan, is convinced that he's doing it again. She's very certain of it because there are signs. However, Cole gaslights her and always attributes his paranoia and suspicions as one of the effects of her traumatic brain injury sustained in an accident. He always slams her wife for having herself checked and saying that her memory is unreliable. I was rooting for Meg because a woman's instinct is never wrong, and I can tell that Cole is really cheating.

This book has multiple POVs, which left me guessing who's telling the truth. Also, I thought Valeria's the one writing the diary entry and assumed that she's delusional. I would also like to point out that the characters are well-described in such a way that it didn't consume half of the book, and the turn of events is also commendable.

This book is unputdownable, I literally read this in one sitting. The ending is satisfying, just the way I like it. This is highly recommended, and I'm glad I picked up this book.

Here’s my confession…

Shade Owens is an automatic request. Period.

Shade, so wonderful to have the opportunity to receive another eARC from you. Here again, a novel that showcases your talent to engage, stun, and capture your audience.

“The Webs you Weave,” the blurb alone, is magnetic and makes you want to pick up the novel, while thinking “oh what fun we shall read.”

Our story, is one fraught with emotion, anger, shame, hate, and love. Our two main characters, Meghan and Cole, are both unlikable, but that’s ok, because their characters are deep, developed, and delicious.

Hazel, their child, is caught in the middle, wondering if her life will ever be the same after the accident…

I won’t go into the plot. I highly suggest you read the blurb.

The story, though slow to burn, holds several twists, and some of those you won’t see coming, and the ending is quite satisfying.

Part psychological thriller, part family drama, this novel will suck you in, churn you, flip, your emotions, and then spit you out with a satisfying smile.

This might have been my first Shade Owens book, but it certainly will not be my last. This one had me guessing from start to finish, and just when I thought I knew something, I was knocked off the scent. What a thrill ride of a read. I was given an ARC from BookSirens to review for this, but I'd be writing a review regardless, because more people need to read this book!

From the moment we encounter Meghan and Cole, we're taken for a thrill ride that does not stop until the last page. I read a lot of these style books, and they are often easy to predict. I had theories from the first few pages, and only one of those theories came close to being right, so that was a refreshing change for me!

There were some parts of the book that felt like they were slightly unnecessary, but overall 95% of what is there was needed for the story, and that is also nice to see, because sometimes there is so much that you don't need to progress the story, the main story gets lost.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author!!
