Ladies of St. George, Book 1

For Destiny St. George, shapeshifting lioness and private investigator, her best friend’s looming wedding is little more than a reminder of her failed relationship with vampire king Marcus Smythe. Tired of being only one of many mistresses—and dinner entrees—she’s stayed away from the vampire scene altogether. Until a missing-person case forces her to seek his help.

Knowing that pressing Destiny is not the way to convince her to give their relationship another try, Marcus has been waiting her out—and his patience is rewarded when she steps into his nightclub. Now is his chance to lure her back into his arms. This time, he plans to keep her there.

Destiny’s not sure which is working with Marcus, or trying to remember all the reasons she called it off with him. And when it becomes clear the case is an elaborate trap to avenge a millennia-old grudge, she finds herself caught between love and instinct—while the clock ticks down on an innocent victim’s life…

Kaye Chambers has led a wild life. With her college degree in hand, she set off on an adventure to find herself. She’s soaked in the hot springs in Iceland in the middle of a blizzard, sat on a volcano to watch the magic of the Northern lights, stood on the coast in the eye of a hurricane, and been awed by ruins of pagan temples. Somewhere along the way, she found herself along with her wonderfully supportive husband and started her family.
Finally, she decided it was time to return to the dreams she’d left behind when she began her adventure all those years ago. Writing. With the new laptop her husband gave her for the effort, she hunkered down and found a writing group. This small group of women took her in hand, helped build her confidence, and encouraged her to do what her heart wanted. Finally, she started pounding out pages. When it was done, she had no idea what to do with them.
So, she started entering contests. Then she started revising…and entering more contests. Encouraged by the comments, she started submitting her work out to publishers and agents while turning her hand to other projects.
Making friends along the way, she’s beginning to see the results of her efforts. Come look into her Chambers of Secrets at www.kayechambers.com and share her vision of reality…

This is a story about Destiny and Marcus. She's a lion shape shifter and he's the king vampire. Basically, she's a private detective and a new case brings her in to contact with Marcus after a long absence from him. She had called things off because his nature is to be with various females to feed and 'enjoy' and she did not want to remain one of his "mistresses". She knew she deserved better. Throughout the story, his reasons for living the way he does become much more clear, even though I still don't quite agree with it. Anyway, this case is really the main focal point of this entire book. Obviously it brings them together quite a bit and even though he yearns to have her back, she stands her ground on what she wants and he doesn't push too hard. They both privately work out within themselves what the issues are and how and "if" they can be overcome. I admit, that was a really difficult part for me. His natural promiscuous nature really bothered me. Although, it was evident that he loved her and no one else. So there was this underlying 'push/pull' thing happening throughout the whole story.

Let me just say this. It would help if you went to the author's website and downloaded the two free reads about Destiny's best friend/sister, Yasmine and her story with Kale, who is an alpha werewolf. It seems their relationship was a big part of this story too and almost, at times, pulled away from Destiny and Marcus. So, to fully appreciate it; you might want to read those two short stories first. Not a must though. That being said, I have to say that even until the very end, it seemed like it was more about the case and also about her relationship with Yasmine and Kale and their upcoming wedding. Her story with Marcus really took a backseat to everything else.

I'm about to say something "spoilerish".... so beware!!

This ebook was 130 pages long and there was zero sexual content until about 108. This is not your typical erotic romance. Even the 'love scenes' were more romantic and passionate than erotic, really. Not really a complaint, but just don't go in to this thinking this is going to have a bunch of hot vampire lovin'! I did enjoy their romantic story and their sweet ending, it was still very much a background story to everything else happening in the book. I'm a little undecided on how much I loved this book. Kudos to KC for a well written detective mystery story and some enjoyable intrigue. The romance part of it left me a little disappointed is all...

I bought and read this book in 2010, but I forgot to add to my read shelf, god knows why.

I read it again today, and if it lost some shine, it's still a pity the author has disappeared completely from the publishing world.
The story is not really tight, and it suffers from this, plus some things are way too easily resolved. Still, it reads as easily :)

If you plan to buy the book, remember it has been written in 2010, before the big pnr explosion, and that there's no sequel. (The story is totally contained, though.)

I really enjoyed this book, first in the series: Ladies of St. George.
I took to Destiny right off, she's smart, a lioness and confident. Her love interest is vampire king, Marcus. And what a vamp he is. I wouldn't mind meeting him at Vantage...
This moved nicely, kept my interest from start to finish, not alot of sex but what there was worked.
So looking forward to the next book in the series.
Highly recommend this read.

Destinys been offered an assignment to search down a lady named Betsy.... Heres the story...
Betsys been going out at nights with this dude who thinks hes a vampire, and now shes disappeared.
Detail?
She meant the guy each time at a club....or to be specific, Marcus's club.
Destiny Pissed to having to go to marcus to help?
Kind of.
Why?
she still has some desire left for him even though she knows that he can't get rid of his ways going to each mistress each day and leaving her.
Problems, Jealousy, Rage, and Forgiveness are all the things that make the book interesting, and it is all definately in it(the book_);.
at the end Destinys sister has a beautiful baby girl named Destiny xD, and Marcus's father is finally dead-which eases Marcus pain, and everything is greatttt, good ending also.(:

(Disclaimer: I got a free copy of this book from the author because I used to edit her. I did NOT edit this book however, so I think I can remain unbiased). Kaye has an easy-to-read author voice. This book is a quick read, and while the plot and conflict aren't overly developed or complicated, and the book has a few pacing issues where it lags, it's still fun and enjoyable and I'll be reading future books from her.

I read this one a while back. It's about a human who can't deal with how her vampire boyfriend has to live his life so she leaves him, and he continues to pursue her and tries to change her mind. If I remember correctly, she's a shape shifter (lion) or something like that. I remember getting hot under the collar about what the vamp got up to so if you like that angry angsty stuff mixed in with your sci-fi, then you should enjoy this story.

This book became a DNF for me. I found the heroine to be annoying, the vampire to be a little stereotyplical and unsexy and the book to be boring. I just couldn't come to care about any of the characters.

Whilst I enjoyed the book, it felt a bit flat throughout. The main vampire didn't react how I'd think someone that old and powerful would act, so it made it seem unrealistic at times (yes, I know we're talking vampires here... I mean, relatively speaking!)
