Sort of a dreamy book only applicable in an “Islamic Utopia.” It’s remarkable how Islamic countries now adopt every westernized value the author has mentioned as a faulty system to fit in with the ideology of capitalism, and to do so; radical feminism had to step in to “free the women” and include them within the work force. And therefore, giving Muslim women the burden of the family bond plus managing a successful carrier, executing a massive reshaping of society. One prominent example is the divorce approach; it’s not surprising to know how similar the divorce process is today in Saudi Arabia to an outdated western legal system! The author published this book in 1998; I wonder how the author would re-conceptualize nowadays’ tremendous alterations in Islamic society.

My favorite quotation: ”Within Islam is the guide to true “feminism” because there is no competition between sexes or game playing, and abusive practices are not tolerated”
Favorite chapter: Life Without God
Favorite sections: Progress and Civilization, Is Paradise for Men Only?

This is the sort of book that someone who already fully believes what it's selling would read to affirm their beliefs. There were major jumps in logic scattered through the pages, a lot of claims with no citations, and some that seemed to be intentionally misleading.

For example, at one point the author speaks about how PMS can lead women to be violent and that this is confirmed by the US legal system - but doesn't indicate that Premenstrual Dysphyoric Disorder is something that the vast majority of people who menstruate will never experience because it is a disorder .

The author also seems to use "Western" and "US" as the same thing, when most scholarly use of "Western" includes minimally Canada and the entirety of Western Europe. Some of this may be due to the age of the book, but it certainly doesn't hold water if you're looking for a well-explained, logical explanation.

I would not recommend this book to anyone that is looking for knowledge on Islam.
