What if Hades didn’t kidnap Persephone? What if, instead, her brother Arion captured the heart of the lord of the Underworld? Arion enjoys his simple life, even if his mother Demeter can be overbearing. Unlike his cloistered sister Persephone, Arion can seduce and fuck at his leisure. But someone has been watching him, someone who can no longer bear to be only a spectator. Hades comes out of the shadows, enthralled by Arion’s beautiful, muscular body and his flashing green eyes. For years, he’s watched others enjoy Arion, but no more. Hades will make Arion his, no matter what he has to do to make his gorgeous captive submit.
I expected a bit more darkness from this, seeing as it’s labeled a dark romance.
There’s more sex than dark elements though. And the only real angst comes from the Evil Mom, a trope I’m well over.
It’s hard to take a dark romance seriously when Hades wants to make sure Arion is into men before kidnapping him, whisking him off the underworld and binding him there for all eternity. And Arion who is all like, “you’ll never have me” but gives in pretty much immediately and acknowledges he consented to it all (though Hades does dip his toes in the SA waters).
I would have liked to see the actually chaining up and claiming of his body and then his heart that Hades promised. Instead, I ended up skimming the multiple sex scenes and the mother drama.
THIS. THIS is the Hades/Persephone MM retelling that I've been looking for!!! Instead of Persephone, Hades takes her brother, Arion. Some of the other retellings I've read rely too heavy on the non/dub con element but never properly show their relationship growing into anything past that. This book did a great job of actually showing that Hades loved Arion and I went absolutely feral when it was HADES submitting because of his love.
I also loved the characterization of the other gods and Persephone herself!
This was really really fantastic and I think I'll definitely read it again.
A relatively short (novella) book. But one I really enjoyed. I was really pleased with the research the author had evidently put into mythology. The characters seemed well rounded for the short size of the story. The prose was lovely. And the sex was steamy.
Hades & Arion The idea of twisted mythology works just fine in this story. It's mostly sex scene but the mythology characters brings interest to it. It's short but entertaining.
